When the Oracle, the person who can see the past, present and future, tells you that you are now the Alpha of a newly created pack, you pack up the life you know and trade it in for a new one. Even if you don’t know the first thing about being an Alpha.
I’m Parker McKnight. I’m eighteen. A wolf Shifter. And now an Alpha.
I get it. I’m powerful. The most powerful Supernatural ever known. But, me…an Alpha? Fates! I just turned eighteen a few months ago…meaning, I just started to learn what it means to be an Alpha.
I don’t know what I’m doing! And on top of it all…the Oracle told me I have to redo my senior year of high school. Seriously? I just graduated third in my class and now I have to go back? Good thing my best friend is my Beta. She’ll help me…or…or she’ll end up killing anyone and everyone who gets on her nerves.
Fates help us all.
But what can I do? I can’t defy the Oracle’s orders. So…I pack up the little bit of things I have and move across the country with my best friend. I may not know what I’m doing, and I may not know where my life is going, but I do know to expect the unexpected. But what I didn’t expect was that I would find my mate within a few days of moving. My human mate…my human guy mate.
My mate is a guy…my mate is a guy?
Fates help me!

Really liked the story but some parts were hard to read too many different people who are doing things which are not interesting for the plot.
Also the story already has so many names and than the author introduces sisters with children who have very similiar names sabrina - sabena - salena or something like that that made me groan because come on 🤦🏻♀️
But again great story and a lot of respect for the author who created an amazing world with people you would like to know!!
Does anybody know when the second book will be released 🤔
i have a weird feeling this was written by a teenager, or maybe it's their first book? nice idea but editing would go a long way (not the grammar as it is usually but the storyline).
i saw facts contradicting each other too, more than once. it shows that whoever did a final read through (if they even did in the first place) didn't notice any of it🥲.
The blurb sounded very interesting and and there are quite a few good reviews… but here we are. I really wanted to like this.
First things first, maybe lighten up on the woman bashing? Like literally just a tab? It felt like every other paragraph one of the characters insults women or femininity. The way the main character generalizes some women is off putting to the point I didn’t care what he had to say next. He has an indifference towards women & we’re told he’s indifferent because he’s gay but his indifference comes off extremely patronizing and condescending.
Also there’s extremely repetitive dialogue and little to no character descriptions. The extra star is because even with the issues, there were some cute moments in this book.
Let's just say that the premise sounded more intriguing than the writing style made it to be. It was somewhat juvenile and repetitive while at the same time not getting anywhere.
Rating: 3.5 stars So I had been eyeing this book for a bit when my friend lent me her copy. After reading it, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I liked that we got multiple perspectives throughout the story. Not just the two MCs. I liked the fact that packs/covens/clans are made up of multiple types of paranormals. It was nice to read a story where shifters, mages and vampires all got along and intermingled.
I think my biggest problem with the story was the YA feel. Quite a few of the characters were in high school. The other problem I had was that Parker was way too good to be true for someone his age. Not only was he the most powerful supernatural born but he was also extremely rich and bought and sold companies since he was 16. (He’s 18 now) I didn’t quite buy it. Finally, it ends in a major cliffhanger. The story was just getting good and started getting away from all the high school angst when it ended.
Having said all that, I did enjoy the story enough that I’m invested in the characters and want to continue to read the series. I’m hoping with the introduction to the main antagonist, the story will get more interesting in future installments.
He's My Mate left much to be desired. While the premise was interesting, the writing was just god awful. Like clearly did not have an editor and author can barely write bad. Overall, the plot meandered, was unnecessarily weighed down by the vast cast of characters, and the complete lack of any sorts of flaws on behalf of the main character (who is a textbook Mary Sue).
On the more granular level, the author has some extremely annoying tics that some may not find annoying, but drove me insane by the time I had slogged through the entire book. This included the extreme overuse of ellipses... The characters... would speak to each other... like this... and they would think like this... Which gets old... really quickly. I frequently begging out loud STOP USING ELLIPSES. It's understandable if only one character thought and spoke like this, but literally all of them have the same voice. Which brings me to my next point- Too many POVs. The author focuses on the main characters (Parker and August), but randomly throws in secondary POVs that get a very short amount of page time and add nothing to the story. Romance books generally shy away from adding a whole bunch of POVs, and this book is example A for why that is considered a best practice.
Other small gripes about the MC's Mary Sue-ness. For one, tons of female characters hit on him ALL the TIME. It's honestly annoying by the end, especially when his middle-aged realtor does it as well (the MC is in high school which makes it especially weird). We also get gems like this: "You okay? He asks, leaning his left arm up high on his locker door. I watched his bicep flex... and... hot fucken shit! Boner." It's so bad, it's My Immortal level cringy and funny at the same time.
Finally, abuse is handled a bit strangely in this story. A lot of child abuse happens in this story, which I don't really think added that much to the overall romance. Some stories handle these topics very well and give important context to the development of the characters and their relationships with themselves and each other, but none of the scenes in this book added that.
*end of story spoilers* Finally, there is a villain(?) in this story, but once again, really on the MC deals with it and the love interest does not even know it exists. Once again, it doesn't add anything to the story and unnecessarily burdens it. I will leave you with this final gold mine quote (it's completely serious)- "I showed them how to use their darkness for good... for my plan to rule the world."

A solid 4.5 stars for this! I truly loved it! The story was amazing and I only substracted half a star because the writing was sometimes repetitive and some of the side love stories would've been more detailed.
But Parker's and the New River Pack's story was an amazing Paranormal adventure. Shifters (all animals), vampires and mages (known as the Supernaturals) live in packs/covens/clans together fighting off Dark Rogues. They are led by the Oracle... a mysterious lady who sees the future and she now decided that a new pack should be formed led by 18 year old Parker.
Parker only started training to become an Alpha and then he got the call that now he's to be the Alpha of a newly formed pack. No pack/clan/coven was formed in centuries...
So the story starts with Parker and Zena, his best friend moving into their new home with their pack.
We get to know all 25 pack members (it's a little hard to keep up who is who). There are some really great characters, like Jonas who is the clumsy jokester, Terrance the scary biker dude and much more. The pack is great and the little snippets of some of the pack member's POV makes the whole story much more detailed.
And of course, there are mates. I love fated lovers and in this every pack member try to find their mates wherever they go. And August, a human guy, is Parker's mate. A guy.
There were some repetitions in the book but I truly loved how this was built and the focus was not entirely on one character but a lot. This provided insight to the different sides of the story. Jokes and sweet (mate) moments with supernatural elements introduced a level if exitement.
Lovely and exciting story! Can't wait for the next book!
Ok, so I didn't read the full book, just the sample which was long enough for me to decide this would NOT be a book for me. Why ?
That's right. Lots of spelling errors. On top of that, the editor/beta reader did a poor job at keeping the useless repetition to a minimum. Do you know how many times we're told "this is the first pack ever established in hundreds of years"? At the very least, 4 times in the first 2-3 chapters. Completely unnecessary. That is of course, just one example. There are a ton of other things that get repeated over and over, there is a lot of stuff that makes no difference at all, yet for some reason, we apparently need to know it. There's also this off balance when it comes to world building. Sure, we're given a ton of inconsequential info on characters, which could be done through the book as opposed to just one huge dump that takes up a whole chapter. While at the same time, it's not really explained why parents would allow their underage kids - as in as young as 15 - to just take off and move away from home. THAT is something that should have been given to the reader right away, not the height of the secondary characters.
Did I mention this is a $4 book ?
Honestly, the sample alone was enough for me to feel like this author was trying to maybe do too much, when trickling info throughout a book just flows better. This was at best, a wattpad attempt at writing.
Well, I'm not a professional critic, but I read at least 25 to 30 books a month.
I even read those I don't like, as the ending can often surprise us, which has happened to me several times.
I am not going to lie, the first chapters of the book are a bit tiring, as there is a lot of information, which I personally believe could have been put into the work in different ways, but that does not make the book any less interesting.
I also believe that the descriptions in some chapters got too big, unnecessarily, at least in this first book, and because of that, they end up getting tiring, but not to the point of wanting to stop reading.
And yes, there is some repetition, but nothing to spoil the work.
But the point is that "HE'S MY MATE" is one of those works that you can't give up, because as soon as you start reading, it gets interesting, and not at all tiring.
The characters are wonderful, who despite being fictional and supernatural, have real problems.
You literally fall in love with them and root for them.
I basically read the entire book in less than 24 hours, and I'm already crazy about the continuation, which I will certainly read in record time as well.
Finally, I would like to add that I read many works by independent authors, most of them with LGBTQ + themes, and I can say with all certainty that this book is worth, and very, worth reading!
At first I gave this book a four because the writing style definitely takes some getting used to. It is told from the perspective of the main characters and it switches very suddenly and some of the time skip transitions are tough to follow. Admittedly, I just want every detail I can get a hold of but I get glossing over details that aren’t important to the main story.
But I gave it a five because it one of the few stories that beautifully captures what I call righteous rage. Anger gets a bad rep but sometimes it is absolutely the correct response especially when someone is trying to hurt the people you love. This story creates a space for supernaturals as a diverse community and yet the humanity is palpable. There are all kinds of raw emotion even amongst friends, not just enemies.
If you have any issues with the gay community this book is not for you. The sex scenes are respectable smut but you should read this in a private place where you can enjoy the story.
Any book that I tear through and just can’t put down will get a great review. I hope to see this on a TV screen at some point definitely worthy of HBO but not the cinema (due to the sex scenes)
I really can't say if I liked the book or not I mean I read it to the end but there were a lot of things in the writing that bothered me for a book written in 2020, sentences like "I was exited like a girl" or had to get a new wardrobe cause he's gay now you see. Everything was a stereotype or to superficial, some characters suffer from rape abuse and bullying and mostly they skim the problem and make it all better but we don't see any growth in the characters because of the mini jumps in time which maybe it's not bad but I'm not use to it. Also Parker is to perfect for 18 I mean, millionaire since 16, a SUPER powerfull Alpha super hot bad boy vibes every thing was easy and I would've liked to see more struggle but then like you would've had to go in deph and the book does'nt do that sooooo. And finally TO MANY CHARACTERS and then near the end introducing 4 more with nearly the same name!! made me hit myself with my Kindle. But the author new that cause she made a list at the end with everyyyy one so we can follow or for her to remember! Hahahaha.
Interesting, and I hope that the next book sneers a lot of questions
I couldn't tell if the voice that the author used was a bit juvenile because the characters themselves were young, or because the author's writing style is this way. The beginning of the book was entertaining, but a bit of a data dump to jumpstart the worldbuilding. Once you get past that though, the story definitely picks up and we get to know this new pack.
I have to wonder, if there was some mastermind who took out the previous pack, and who is still around, why didn't they start the whole world dominating thing already? Why didn't they stay in the really nice house, rather than a cave? How did they know that Selena would be coming 50 years before she was born? And if he's been watching the new pack, seeing that they are young is one thing, but it's he not even slightly concerned by the power that they possess individually and collectively?
This book is more for young adult/ high school audience, (pretty much no sex) but I still loved it. This slightly reminds see me of teen wolf (which is prolly why I liked much.) It’s mostly told from Parker’s point of view and August, with a few chapter from other members- which I loved. This has vampires, shifters, Magee, oracles all thrown into modern day. This book isn’t all about the two main characters and their relationship it’s got a whole lot of other stuff going on.. it felt like I was ready a tv show and now I wait for the next season. **does end on a cliff hanger** whole bunch of stuff goes down and it just ends. Then the epilogue is a glimpse of a whole other possible problem.. like I said reminds me of a tv show.. which depends on how long the author draws stuff out. The main reason I like books over tv series is books usually wrap up and I get my happy ending.
This was just okay. I of course have issues with the book that I don't want go into. What I would like to mention is that why would it take a new student to come in and recognize that his friend is being abused while no one else did. I don't believe for one second that that is possible; especially since he barely new the kid. Secondly the issues that should have been taken of as an adult was done by a teen. It doesn't make sense. It would have been best if this book had built on Parker learning how to be an Alpha and the older pack mates coming to terms that their Alpha is in fact only 18. I like it enough to continue with the story.
I enjoyed these characters quite a bit. It’s detailed but the story could’ve definitely been improved with a lot of editing. It would’ve done fine with just 2 perspectives instead of multiple. You’ll read an entire scene play out just to have it repeated to you again almost verbatim. Also if you’re looking for instant erotica this is not it. The book takes time for the romantic elements to blossom but it gets there eventually. But even with those flaws, it’s an interesting story with likable characters and I’m interested enough to find out where it goes from here with the next book.
This was a good shifter book but at times there were to many characters doing nothing important but adding confusion and words to the story. However, this is a cliffy had I known that I would have never wasted my time! I realize authors make cliffhangers to force a reader to buy another book but my opinion is if the writing is good enough the reader will follow the author. I steer clear of authors that use cliffhangers to sell books.
I only made it through 20%. The writing seems very childish, everything is overly explained and repeated so many times. The characters are talking to themselves like they’re explaining their lives to people outside of their reality and every character explains stuff the exact same way or gives their own background in a monologue instead of letting the reader find out as the story progresses. I would not recommend and I’m honestly surprised it has so many higher ratings.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The relationships between the characters is great. The plot is interesting. And the magic system is fascinating. The biggest issue I have with this is the constant switching to perspectives. I enjoy it when you have both of the main characters of the main couple but this had a lot of the side characters leading chapters as well which made it rather confusing at times.
DNF at 38%. No rating, might return to it later. It was boring and low heat/romance. Also, the characters were considerably immature. I knew that going in, basically Teen Wolf, but it was a bit more immature than I expected. Not terrible but there are better reads on my list at the moment.
Surprisingly good! I went in cold, got a little put off when I found out it was ya/na, but it turned out to not be a problem. Thumbs up for talking things out (except in the end, but really understandable = cliffhanger), no ridiculous misunderstandings, petty fights etc.
Cute little story. I did enjoy it, however 10% of the book is the use of the phrase 'huff out'. The author used it to describe literally anything any of the characters did. It was used to much that I started waiting to see it on every. Single. Page.
There are many things happening around us that can't be explained easily but should not be dismissed, just go forward with love in your heart and believe he will be there. It will happen, never say never.
Immediate DNF. Written as if the narrator is conversing with the reader and it’s clunky and cringey. Immediate info dumping wherein the narrator repeats everything as if it’s unbelievable. Couldn’t get past a few pages of that.
