Pussy Zombies

Rate this book
Kat, 17, likes to think of herself as above the crowd. She's not like the other girls at her high school – giggly, gossipy, shallow, boy crazy, and hopelessly obsessed with their appearance. Instead, Kat is introspective, thinks deep thoughts, and even likes science. In fact, she's the only girl in Mr. Knopick's science class who's actually looking forward to dissecting a cat. In short, Kat's a nerd. So when she falls into a deep crush with Alec, the gorgeous new boy in school, Kat is dismayed to find that deep inside, under her serious plain-Jane exterior, she's just like those popular girls: silly, self-conscious, and suddenly worried about what to wear. It gets better for her when Alec invites her to the senior prom. Maybe it's not so awful to fit in for a change? But then things get worse. So much worse. We're talking really bad. We're talking killer zombies attacking her school bad.

How can so much go wrong so fast?

It's a truly strange and wonderful book! If Margaret Atwood was asked to write a movie tie-in novel to 'Pretty In Pink' where zombies attacked at the end during prom, this would be that book.

I absolutely love this audiobook! I love that this is a YA horror novel through the perspective of a female narrator. This reminds me of what it would be like if John Greene wrote a Goosebumps book. The last chapter is so long that it's kind of like a short story. No zombies actually appear in the book until the last chapter. The last chapter is sort of violent and scary. It's probably more Stephen King than RL Stine. I really loved the girl who read the audiobook. She did a great job and was a good fit for Kat. I highly recommend this one!

Ok, so where do I start with this book. It is a relatively short novella that I have no idea why I bought, maybe somebody recommended, any takers ?
Anyway I don’t normally read US teen books, nor this form of horror, so a complete departure for me, but I have to say an enjoyable one. Kat is a nerdy (although sounds like she’s good-looking) studious and sensible high school student.
When a good looking male student joins the school, Kat knows he will not look at her twice, and will want to join in with the “cool” girls. She is therefore very surprised when he sits at her table in the school canteen.
With Prom approaching she has no intention of attending until this new cool guy decides he wants to attend with her. All of a sudden she is suffering the same anxieties as any normal teenager. Her work begins to suffer just as in her science classes they are about to dissect cats ! Yuk !!
Anyway without giving too much away, her prom experience is considerably different to what she expected.

The story was a little short and I felt the last few chapters were somewhat rushed, it could’ve been a lot longer, and I wish it had as the characters especially kat were fun. But I enjoyed the read !

Oddly entertaining and strangely charming. The title of this seems like a metaphor until you get to the end, and there is an actual zombie attack.

This book was hands down, the dumbest book I’ve ever forced myself to finish.

•The writing is pretentious and clearly a try-hard attempt at sounding as sophisticated as it could.
•Kat is the god awful worst character ever. She woman shamed every second she could- including herself for having very normal human emotions; human shamed in general as she called basically everyone outside of her parents ‘idiots.’ She acts as if she’s god’s gift to the earth for being some rare specimen of a person, acting as if giving her parents (or anyone really) any time of day is the best gift in the world she could give them. There is absolutely nothing to like about Kat.
•Okay but what science teacher would ever speak to his students the way this one did??
•From the halfway point to the last ten percent of the book was Kat describing her bodily functions as she went through the emotions of depression and anxiety. Seriously, over and over, in different ways, you read about how her brain feels this way, her body feels that way. For 40% of the damn book.
•Don’t think I didn’t notice the transphobic remarks at the prom theme.
•The last 10% of the book, we finally get to the so-called zombies. Which are fucking cats that can be held at bay by the noise of a flute recorder being played with your nostrils. Okay but what?? I kept reading cause I was expecting actual cool-ass zombies. But I guess cat zombies make sense for the word ‘pussy zombies’? I don’t know.
•It just ended, suddenly, after they get out of the high school. No wrap up, no nothing.

I honestly would have liked the story more has the author kept going with the teenage angst that was going on in the first half, but it took a huge nose dive as soon as Kat had even the inking of Alec ‘dumping’ her for Andrea.

To be even more honest, this feels like an angry adult writing out their feelings about how much they hate people in general, hated high school, and wanted to get revenge on everyone who did her dirty through this make-believe horror story where she can degrade them all and even kill a few by zombie killer cats.

Even though this book was free for me, and is probably still cheap now to purchase, do yourself a favor and skip it.

I may be bringing shame upon my family for having this book on my to-read list, but there's no way in hell I'm passing up a zombie book with a "gorgeous new boy in school" who has my name.

Title is extremely misleading

The majority of the story, around the first 90% is an internal monologue of an angst ridden teenage girl, who spends most of the story in emotional turmoil over a boy she spoke to for two days.
The section of the story referenced in the title happens in the last chapter only and feels like a poor attempt to conclude a story for a character that I frankly had no empathy for after over 90 odd pages of what became monotonous monologue.
Character was well constructed, pity the author undone her own work by labouring the story as long as it was. And that's the only reason that I have given the book 2 stars.
If it had been a short story of around 30-40 pages it would have been ok, but not the length it is.

First of all, I thank the author for providing this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I don't know what was going through the author's mind that she built the premise for the story in eleven chapters and quickly finished it in the twelfth(like first three chapters are just wasted to tell how simple the girl Kat is).It is a badly edited story with a worse climax. The book is not worth anyone's time even if offered for free.
Sorry,Ms.Mornay,I can only rate your work as one out of five.

Decent story. I received the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I loved the main character, Kat, and the way she thinks and acts. Reminds me of how I was in high school. Short, light read. Took a good amount of time to get to what I really wanted to hear/read: the zombies but once we got to the end I had to laugh because it was expected, yet not. 3/5 stars.

My review is based on the audiobook. This is more a coming of age story than a zombie story - like 99% to 1%. I kept waiting for the zombie part which didn't happen until tge very end. That being said overall it was a quick listen & good story. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story to life.
