A BOOK SIGNING TO DIE FOR by Judy Moore is a cozy murder mystery and the second book that I have read by this author. The earlier book was SOMEBODY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. Both books are set in the same small Florida town of Manatee Beach. While they are not in the same series and have different main characters, there are some secondary characters who show up in both.

Beck O’Rourke co-owns Beach Reads bookstore and coffee shop with her grandmother. They live in the apartment above their store with Beck’s younger sister, Lizzie. There is lots of excitement in the bookstore when a bestselling cozy mystery writer comes to their store for a book signing event. However, when someone dies after the event, Beck is determined to track down the culprit.
Beck was definitely someone you wanted to succeed. Her goals were clear and she showed appropriate emotions. The secondary characters were well developed as well-rounded and enhanced the story as well as providing some humor. The prose was compulsively readable, well-written, and engrossing. The plot was suspenseful, complex with plenty of suspects, and entertaining. The ending was a little unexpected with a nice twist.

Overall, this was an enjoyable, entertaining, suspenseful and fabulous read. Themes include murder, mugging, family dramas, secrets, poor treatment of those that are different from ourselves and much more. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. If the above sounds like something you would enjoy, then I recommend that you check it out.

Thanks to the author for a complimentary copy of this novel and the opportunity to read and provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

Beach Reads bookstore and coffee shop was jointly owned by Beck O'Rourke and her grandmother, Grammy, or Miss Alice to her customers, and the upcoming author event was approaching quickly. A popular cozy mystery author with a new release, her tenth novel, would give a talk to the guests and sign their books after, while the guests chatted, ate brownies and drank coffee. Beck was organising it all, including introducing the author, while Grammy was selling copies to the audience. About fifty were there, and the event was hugely successful, with the last person leaving around 10pm. But both Beck and her younger sister Lizzie were woken around 2am by the police and ambulance in the alley beside the bookstore, and what they found horrified them all. One of the guests had been murdered...

As Beck began the investigation - after the police focused on someone else - she discovered quite a lot. So much so that suddenly her life was in danger. But she was determined not to stop her search for answers. Could she discover the killer? Or would she bring trouble to her own family?

A Book Signing to Die For is the 1st in Cozy Mysteries to Die For by Judy Moore and I thoroughly enjoyed it. With the requisite police who don't seem to have a clue, to the amateur sleuth who is sure she will get the results they all need, this entertaining cozy is one I recommend highly.

A Book Signing to Die For by Judy Moore is a charming cozy mystery that kept me turning the pages. Ms. Moore is a "new to me" author but I definitely want to read more of her books now.

Beck, Miss Alice and Lizzie are all characters that were both likable and relatable. This mystery is set in Manatee Beach, Florida at Beach Reads bookstore and revolves around a book signing at the store. The plot is quickly paced, there were several suspects and the red herrings kept me guessing until the reveal. I thought I had figured out who was behind the murder but I was wrong and I love being wrong because the reveal was dramatic with a huge twist.

The author provided me with a copy of this book to review. This did not influence my thoughts and opinions in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.

A good start to a new series, set in a bookshop. There are any number of possible suspects, and the solution was quite surprising for me. Some fun characters, especially the unlikely lottery winner.

A Terrific Cozy Mystery

This is a good story with very likable characters. I'd recommend it to anyone who has been non-stop reading stories with gore and great suspense. Can be nerve-wracking after awhile. That's why I chose this book. It's engaging but doesn't wear you out. To be honest I didn't have a clue about the real killer. I generally have an inkling but not this time. One thing I particularly liked was how human the author made her characters. I'll definitely be reading more in this series.

A Book Signing to Die For was another one of those recommendations through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Because it was centered around a bookstore it was sort of a no-brainer for me. I love any type of cozy that is book-related. This was an enjoyable first book in a series. I enjoyed the relationship between Beck and both her grandmother and her younger sister. There are some colorful secondary characters and a possible love interest for Beck, but I think that may be down the road. The pace was steady as clues were dropped and the mystery was unraveled. What really took me by surprise was the identity of the killer. The author did a really good job of being circumspect and hiding the clues well. This is a series that I will be continuing to read and would recommend to others.

Beck and her grandma own a fantastic book store in Florida. Beach Reads is the place to go for a coffee, a snack, and of course the perfect book to read.
When Beck has the chance to host a book signing for a very popular cozy mystery author, she has no idea how this event is going to change her life.

A Book Signing to Die For is a fast paced cozy mystery by a new to me author.
I really enjoyed this book and read it in all one sitting.
I was so convinced I solved the mystery, but no, I was wrong. The author gave plenty of red herrings and I was absolutely shocked at the reveal.
The cast of characters work well together, and their unique personalities have contributed plenty of laugh out loud moments to this book.

A Book Signing to Die for by Judy Moore is a great start to a new cozy mystery series! For me it’s all about the characters when it comes to a cozy (and location/hobbies is a close second). They have to be characters I enjoy and could see be friends with in order for me to want to return again and again to their small towns. And with Grandmama and Lizzie, Moore has accomplished this in spades. I liked Grandmama instantly with her crankiness that you just knew was hiding a heart of gold. Lizzie took me a bit to warm up to, but she seems so wise and confident for a 19 year old that she won me over.

And even the characters that aren’t so nice, like the jewelry shop owners and the guest author (at least at first) are written really well. Moore seems to have the character descriptions down perfectly.

As for the town and surrounding areas, Moore describes them so you feel as if you are really there and want to take a look around. I love that Beck, Lizzie, and their Grandmama live upstairs from the bookstore, and both are described in such great detail that I want to visit the shop and live above it myself!

There is a bit of a love interest sparking with the detective, so I’m interested to see where that goes. In this book he kept telling Beck not to investigate, and it does get really dangerous at one point, but we’ll see if he changes his tune and starts to help her a bit in future books.

And the whodunnit was done very well. I didn’t figure out the killer early. I thought it was two other people working together, and I was not even close. A fantastic start and I look forward to visiting the O’Rourke ladies and their Florida town again soon!

When Beck O' Rourke schedules a popular cozy mystery author for a book signing at her oceanside shop, Beach Reads, Beck and her family have no idea that a murderer may soon have their family "scheduled" for murder.

What a great mystery & characters! The fast-paced mystery kept me reading late into the night. While I didn't figure out "whodunit", all the pieces of the mystery fit together perfectly. I loved the character of Beck - she's determined, smart and kind. Her dream was to be a detective and she uses the skills she learned in criminology classes to "work" the case. Lizzie her 19 year old sister is a handful but always supports Beck. Miss Alice, their Grandmother who co-owns the store with Beck, is sassy, independent and ready to help. Coquina, the Great Dane, rounds out the crime solving team!

A Book Signing to Die For is a perfect start to a wonderful cozy mystery series! I'm looking forward to reading about the sleuthing adventures of the ladies of Beach Reads!

I received a copy of the book from the author as a gift and the opinions expressed are my own.

"A Book Signing To Die For" by Judy Moore is a fantastic read! The setting (a bookstore near the beach) and the plot (with a surprise ending) were well crafted and realistic but, because I'm partial to character-driven novels, I especially enjoyed getting to know the characters and I hope to see them again in future novels by the author.

A fun cozy mystery book! I really enjoyed this book set in Manatee Beach, Florida! Beck and her grandmother run a bookshop and café. The bookstore is hosting an author talk and book signing for famous cozy mystery author, Marcia Graybill. When a group of tourists comes into the store, the older woman recognizes the author as a former classmate. She decides to attend the book signing while her son and daughter-in-law go to dinner. The woman, Peggy Davidson, has been flashing around her valuable emerald ring at the bookstore event and the author does not seem very pleased to see one of her former classmates. Following the signing, Peggy’s son and daughter-in-law show up at the bookstore looking for her. Later that evening, Beck and her sister, Lizzie, are awakened by police activity in the alley behind the store. Peggy has been found dead and her emerald ring missing, apparently from a mugging. Beck is upset by the incident and it doesn’t help that the detective on the case is someone she knew in college and shared an embarrassing moment with during one of her classes. Beck sets out to investigate with the help of her grandmother to find the truth about what happened to Peggy. A truly enjoyable book set in a charming Florida beach town with interesting characters and an intriguing storyline. I enjoyed following Beck and her grandmother as they searched for the killer. The killer was a definite surprise to me and one I didn’t see coming. I look forward to reading more of this series and hopefully seeing a relationship develop between Beck and Devon. Highly recommend!

This is the first in the series. The main characters are Beck , Grammy and Lizzie. Grammy and Beck own a bookstore, cafe in Florida and little sister Lizzie lives there with them. When an author shows up for a book signing that a tourist knows knows from high school Beck talks her into coming that night. The tourist's body is found outside their back door later that night. The lead cop isn't interested in what Beck thinks and so she decides to figure everything out before he does. When she gets shot at, that makes it all the more important. Can she figure this all out before it's too late ?

⭐MY REVIEW⭐
Wow, just wow ! This was my second read by this author and I can honestly say she is an amazing writer. She did an amazing job of bringing the small town of Manatee Beach, Florida and all of the characters to life. I was saving this book for the perfect time ( my trip to the beach ). Today I realized our vacation was not going to happen again this year. So I started reading. And in a way it was like a trip to the beach.

I really can’t say enough good things about this book. This story was quick to draw my attention with it's in depth details . I could almost smell the ocean, smell the books , and feel the sand between my feet. I LOVED this book. I started and finished it all in just a few hours. The characters are well developed and you will fall in love with them all. I was instantly emotionally invested in all of the characters . I felt as if I knew the characters personally. There's so much to love about this book: small town setting, the vibrant descriptions, and the engaging characters just to name a few. I won't give away the plot, but suffice to say this is a story you won't soon forget. If you enjoy a well-written, small town read, you will surely love this book. I'm not usually a big fan of cozy mysteries ,but this one had me wanting more. I totally loved these characters and can't wait to read more from them. Trust me when I say the author can not write fast enough. As always if you like the book you read take the time to leave a review for the author in places like goodreads & Amazon. It does not have to be long. Just a few sentences saying you liked the book will do. Authors really appreciate every review they get !

This may be the start of a new series, but if you have read Somebody in the Neighborhood you will recognize the town and some of the characters including Scratchoff and Dorothy.

This new series features Beck and her grandmother Alice that run a bookstore and cafe in Manatee Beach Florida. Beck has always wanted to be a detective and now she is getting her chance to investigate (on the side) a murder that happened close to their bookstore and was someone they had met.

I enjoyed this cast of characters and I think this will make a wonderful series in this sleepy town in Florida.  I foresee a possible romance between Beck and Devon, who is a new detective to the force and someone she knew from college despite the fact that he wants her to stay out of the investigation so she doesn't get hurt.

The list of possibilities for who the murder might be isn't too long.  There are many that could potentially have a good motive and I wasn't sure who was the most likely candidate.  Let's just say this person was on my list but I couldn't figure out why they would be the killer until it was revealed in the end.  There are a few clues that might point you in this character's direction, but not many.  You will have to piece together the different clues to get you there.

And for you dog lovers, there is a Great Dane named Coquina (which is the name of a very small shell) and Dorothy's poodle, Fifi, that we see on a couple of occasions.

Overall a fantastic start to a new series and we give this book 5 paws up.

A Book Signing to Die For is a fabulous cosy mystery by Judy Moore. I have read many of Ms. Moore’s books now- so I know what I’m in for with one of her stories. I really enjoy a great mystery, and this definitely fits that bill and is one of my favourite reads of hers.
Jumping into the story, there’s interesting and somewhat quirky characters, murder, intriguing mystery, danger, suspense, drama, discovery, and some surprising developments. And as usual with one of Judy Moore’s books I spent much of the time trying to predict the outcome before anything was revealed. But Ms. Moore once again twisted and turned the plot and kept me guessing the whole way through.
‘A Book Signing to Die For’ is an incredibly detailed, descriptive, and really well-woven. Ms. Moore had no problem building the suspense and tension- and had me anticipating what was yet to come.
I loved the bookstore setting, it really added to the atmosphere of the whole story. I’m pretty sure we met some of these characters in one of Ms. Moore’s previous books- ‘Somebody in the Neighborhood’.
I wonder what Judy Moore has planned for us next?

Thank you, Judy Moore!

Bookworm Beck O’Rourke and her grandmother live a picturesque life above a bookstore/coffee shop in Manatee Beach, Florida. Lizzie, Beck’s younger lifeguard sister, lives with the two.
As Beck is set to host a book signing with one of the finest mystery book writers, an audience member is murdered. Beck is thrown in the forefront to pursue her detective chops to the test as she’s on a trail to catch that murderer. As she’s got her suspects lined up, the murderer is none too pleased about Beck’s involvement but neither is an old flame of Beck’s, a new police detective.
This is a book with wonderful characters, great scenic detail for great world building, a pinch of romance with Beck and her ex plus the suspense of the mystery.

I really enjoyed this first book in a new series! Great beach town setting, interesting mix of townies and tourists, and a wonderfully imperfect family that owns the bookstore. The age differences and the outlooks on life differences give an authenticity to the O'Rourke women and their relationships. The book signing certainly ran like a real one, with the exception of the murder of course! You will definitely root for the O'Rourke ladies as they attempt to solve the crime using their knowledge as locals.

Rebecca(Beck) and her grandma own a Bookstore Beach Reads in Manatee Beach Forida. Lizzy Beck's younger sister does not want to have anything to do with bookstore.Lizzy is a lifeguard and always has guys at her feet. The newest one Teddy seemed like a Kepper to Beck and granny. Lydia and Phil were owners of jewelry shop right across from Beach Reads they were always causing trouble saying that there is not enough parking and little snide remarks to Beck and her grams all the time. Before Beck was a Bookstore owner she went for crimnalogy. And the cop Devon was in her class. Beck always got nervous around him.But Beck did not make the cut. The 1st series of this book Beck has a book signing and brief bio and some photos with the Author. ( every month they would have an
Author mostly cozy mystery authors who were well known or were passing through that area would become Beck and her grandma hosts) That month was Marcia Graybill. A lady Peggy reconigned Marcia from a long time ago in high school. Beck did not think kindly about Marcia , she was bashing Manattee Forida town badly. But all of a sudden when she came out and talked to everyone she acted so nicely. But behind their back she did not want take photos with anyone. But Beck told Marcia something that made her really appreciate her fans. This guy his name they called Scratchoff ( He was homeless until he hit a ticket for one million dollars). Was making everybody in town seem like fools because he could not understand why where the place to place in cozy mystery book Marcia wrote really was a fake place. Someone dies in this and Beck and her sis Lizzy and Gram egg Beck on for trying to solve mystery. I Love the characters. There is a Beautiful Great Dane in this book. I had a cat named Beck too ( I know it the woman Nick name but love it) He did recently and made me love this book even more. Well definitely read more of Judy's books in this series

A BOOK SIGNING TO DIE FOR, by Judy Moore, is an entertaining cozy mystery story. It immerses the reader into the world of books via the charming setting of the Beach Reads Bookstore in Manatee Beach, Florida. The descriptive voice of the author made me want to visit the location and partake of all the lovely offerings the town has to offer. I truly loved the inclusion of a cozy mystery author visiting for a book signing and having the murder mystery surround that event. The protagonist, Beck O’Rourke is smart, capable, and knows how to use common sense and intellect to piece together clues. The author’s use of the backstory of Beck’s desire to be a detective and her attempt at making it a reality, dovetailed nicely with Beck’s involvement in solving who murdered one of her bookstore guests. Ms. Moore has a methodical approach to the mystery that makes it a delight, as a reader, to follow along as the clues are dispersed. Yet she manages to throw in some twists I didn’t see coming and kept me guessing as I turned pages. There were plenty of quirky characters that kept the story fresh. I liked that Beck is close to her sister and to her grandmother, the co-owner of the bookstore, and that they all live together over the shop. My only issue is that Beck’s grandmother is one of the quirky characters and is supposed to come across as sassy and no-nonsense. Instead, her annoyance and downright rudeness to the town’s homeless man turned lottery winner didn’t sit right with me. If it were a onetime scene I could have glossed over it, but unfortunately, it was a repetitive theme. Despite that, this is an entertaining whodunit and I look forward to reading more from this author!

I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rebecca (Beck) Rourke and her grandmother, Alice O'Rourke, are co-partners of the Beach Reads bookstore and coffee shop in Manatee Beach, Florida. Lizzie, Beck's younger sister, is a beach lifeguard, and the O'Rourke women enjoy living together in the 3-bedroom apartment above the bookstore. Beck and Miss Alice (as she invites everyone to call her) are excited that Marcia Graybill, a cozy mystery writer whose latest book has made the NY Times Bestseller List, is their next book talk/signing event.

I was 3 pages into the story when I didn't know if I would continue reading. I have never known of a professional kitchen selling food to the public permitted to allow an animal in the kitchen. In this case, Coquina, a Great Dane, and regardless of how docile, regardless of enjoying a bed in the corner of the kitchen, I don't believe a license would be granted, particularly for a dog unleashed and of the size that just by a turn of the head could partake a sample from a countertop. Yes, it is a novel, so I kept reading.

I enjoyed the women's personalities, their relationship with one another, and the mystery, and that kept me reading, but there were many disconnects from one chapter to another.

Set it all aside and enjoy some time in the bookstore setting. I may try the next book in the series, but it will be a while.

Reviewer’s Note: If you thought you had visited this "Beach Reads" bookstore earlier in North Carolina, you may have thought the same thing as I did but that store is on Brigid’s Island as created by Maggie Blackburn beginning with "Little Bookshop of Murder" Beach Reads Mystery, Book 1. If you'd like to travel by book further south, this is another bookshop with the same name.
