DOUBLE TROUBLE What will Yabe Shinji do when the school president and a Gal both propose to him at the school festival beauty contest? A secret sleepover and a school trip lead to all the sexy times a guy could want!
If you've kept up with my reviews for this series so far, then you already know my gripes by now and the fact that they hold up even with this volume. Those things notwithstanding, I enjoy that this volume gives equal focus to Koharu Fujiwara as it does to our title character, because it's nice to see how similarly the two feel about Yabe-sensei despite their different approaches, and I still love that despite being "rivals" in their mutual crush, an effort is made to still showcase that they're friends.
Additionally, despite everything surrounding the scene, there is a moment during a school trip to Okinawa where we finally get an indication of Miku's plans for her future, and how she's become inspired. It's sweet and heartwarming in its own way, however briefly it's shown, and I do feel like it's a good glimpse at her character development from volume 1 to now. We also get a chapter where we see more of her family life, which I highly appreciated. It was easily the most hilarious chapter of the series up to this point, and the highlight of the volume!
For a series that is hyperbolic in its fanservice, it felt like this volume went beyond that. And with Miku having shown some growth in some previous volumes seemed to slide backward in this one. Maybe she's feeling competition or something, but it felt like a digression and was a bit disappointing after seeing her move forward earlier. With three books left I hope Taiyou-sensei can deliver a satisfying end to what could be a sweet love story.
The fan service was reaching a level that was too much for me in this volume. There were some cringy moments too. But I still enjoyed it enough to continue the series.
Despite all the fanservice and lewd jokes, this series is wholesome as hell and makes me smile. I'm really rooting for Miku and Shinji....after Miku graduates of course :)
As usual enjoyed the story. The beauty contest was really good. The clencher though for this volume was the home visit with the parents. When Miku's fathers glasses exploded at the end I just couldn't stop laughing.
