Most Embarrassing Reincarnation EVER! Thirty-two-year-old college dropout Shuta Yoshida has no idea how he ended up in another world, let alone bound naked at the feet of the beautiful village chieftan. But as a resourceful serial freelancer who knows his way around manual labor, "Shooter" is ready to do whatever it takes to earn his place in this fantasy frontier town. Maybe he'll even earn himself some clothes! A hilarious romp with a savvy leading man who's just doing his best to cover his ass in a land of swords and sorcery.
This was darker than I expected (another character who was isekai'd away has a drug problem to cope with what is heavily implied to be sexual assault), but I appreciated the hero being older than the norm and actually acting like it.
Also, yes, as you may have guessed, this comes with more than its fair share of penis jokes.
I really enjoy light novels, and I find isekais to be an interesting genre. However, this title definitely caught my eye when i first saw it and i figured, well, i certainly HAVE to give this book a shot from the ridiculous premise alone. So how was it?
Um... actually not bad.
So the premise is that Shuta (or shooter as they call him in the book) is a 32 year old dude who gets isekai'ed naked into a fantasy world. Upon arriving he has to contribute to this village and once he does, becomes a hunter and has a wife (cassandra) thrown at him. However Cassandra is very shy and doesn't do much with him other than talk a little bit and be shy.
After defeating a wyvern he goes to the city with an elf and gets knocked out and is sold as a slave to a cute young girl. they then go on an adventure in a dungeon.
I basically just summed up the entire premise in like 4 sentences. So you can tell, it's not a very complicated story. Then again, it doesn't really have to be. For what it was, I actually enjoyed this story quite a bit.
Most of the characters are at the very least FUN if not more than 2 dimensional. There's really no main character i despised, from the hot town mayor to the bitchy at first girl who also got summoned from Japan. (don't worry, she gets some development).
The story has some VERY tongue-in-cheek moments that i laughed at a few times, like when he said that one of the characters with a weird name had a "Deviantart-OC Ass name" and that got an audible laugh out of me.
Shuta is a fun enough protagonist and i had fun, if not for the eye rollingly annoying part of being arrested and sold as a slave. oh my god i'm so over MC's getting arrested and/or sold as slaves. it gets tiring after a while. At the very least though, this was mitigated by the fact that his owner is very nice to him and friendly. So that's a bonus.
It did get a little eye rolling when they kept giving him all these contrived reasons on why he was naked. First he appears that way when he's summoned, then his loincloth will get ripped in a battle, then they'll take it away when he's a slave, etc. like, his getting naked gets very sigh worthy after a while. like, you don't have to KEEP coming up with reasons why he's naked. Just let him have at least like...underwear for a while.
There's a lot of naked humor, which i'm sure you could figure out and i would NOT recommend this book for anyone under the (older 16+) mark this book has. Sometimes like with the monster musume girls at work light novel, i feel the 16+ is unjustified, but nah, they were spot on with this one. lot of penis and boob jokes in this one. No actual like. sex, but a lot of jokes and references. It didn't make the story any less enjoyable for ME but there might be people out there who are little more sensitive about that. then again...i don't think those people would purchase a book called "Buck naked in another world"
All in all, i quite enjoyed this, even if it was a little slow at parts, so i'm going to give this a 3.5 out of 5. Apparently there's only 1 more volume out there, so i'm definitely going to pick it up to finish the story.
I REALLY wish i could give halves because i REALLY want to give this a 3.5, but i can't sadly. and i'm sitting here....hemming and hawing whether it's a 3 or a 4 and i can't make up my mind. i'll leave it as a 4 for now, but i might edit and change that later. i've just finished it and i need to think about it more.
Also it depends on how book 2 goes. if book 2 is good, i'll leave it as a 4. if book 2 ends, like crap, i might come back and edit it down to a 3. we'll see.
DNF - Unfortunately, I have to DNF this book. I was really hoping that from the cover of the book it was gonna be funny but I was wrong. The main character keeps having problem after problem...while he states a million times...he's naked (yes, we get it. can someone please give the man some clothes).
Wow, this book was bad. It was obviously written for the web, but it’s like they didn’t do any editing to make it “book worthy”. Like, I don’t need to be reminded who this guy is at the beginning of each chapter and the chapters are sooo long.
But…why do I want to read the next one? 😩
It was mildly entertaining and I want to know what happens to this naked doofus.
This poor fellow gets shafted every which way and does not deserve it. It's not funny about it nor is it deserved, just left me feeling angry at how poorly this guy was treated.
Boring, annoying and did I say boring? I had to give up reading it since it was so damn bad. The MC is just your average dude, but he seems to have to introduce himself every chapter and saying that he's naked. I know, we get it after 2 chapters! He's also a fighter, but he keeps complaining about not being able to fight. Every time he needs to fight, he takes a weapon even though he's trained in hand-to-hand combat. This is just plain annoying. The big problem for me is that there is no "vibe" to this world. It's very plain. There are no things that would set it appart from other worlds in other books. I'll drop this series.
This book is perfect for the lover of dick jokes and an overused gimmick. It's not a story to be taken seriously, nor does it take itself seriously either. I do have some issues in reference to the female characters and their ages, but I understand this is probably a cultural thing.
