Tony Sanchez, the established executive chef of a New York restaurant, is on a long-overdue visit home to Miami. He’s committed to making the celebration the best it can be—for the sake of his niece, the rest of his family, and his reputation.

Sara Kelly hadn’t known much about quinceañeras before she agreed to cater one for her niece. It’s a chance to both help her family and to promote her brand-new restaurant in Miami. From her Cuban sister-in-law, Sara learns about quince traditions, appreciating the meaning behind them.

When Tony was growing up, Sara was his best friend’s little sister; now, he sees her in a very different light. But his last relationship with another chef ended in disaster…and Sara knows that, once the parties are over, he’ll be gone. Can either of them entertain the idea of a new romance?

South Beach Love by Caridad Pineiro
Contemporary romance. Own voices, Cuban descendants. Made into a Hallmark movie. Best friend’s sister troupe.
Tony Sanchez is an accomplished chef running a restaurant in New York. He’s home in Miami to mange his niece’s fifteenth birthday quinceanera.
Sara Kelly runs a local popular restaurant and she’s agreed to cater her niece’s quinceanera.
Two parties. Two 15 year old school rivals. Two chefs. One newspaper article to report on one of the events - but which one?
Tony and Sara’s older brother were best friends when growing up. Sara may have had a crush on Tony hen she was younger but she’s over it. Tony didn’t really notice Sara until now. She makes some excellent food at her restaurant and he realizes she’s going to be competitive. Which one will win the reporters eye when it comes to print time?

The slow burn romance between Sara and Tony is sweet as they become friends during their two events. Even better, is the friendship that develops between the two girls. It’s heartwarming.

The text contains a lot of phrases in Spanish which are easy to interpret in the settings and ongoing conversations.

Tres Leche recipe included at the end of the book.

”’We tend to forget the past, but it’s what shapes our future.’”

・❥・・❥・This was a fairly cute and quick read about two chefs, Sara Kelly and Tony Sanchez, who grew up together and eventually find themselves in a competition for cooking the best food at their nieces’ quinceñeras. I love when friends-to-lovers and some sort of rivalry or competition aspect is included in romance stories. I thought the ending between the two MCs was wrapped up nicely and was pretty realistic considering both of their competitive natures and how they stayed true to themselves in terms of advancing their goals in their culinary careers. It was nice to see that neither MC had to sacrifice what their ideals were or what they believed in order to get what they wanted 🌟

・❥・・❥・That being said, I feel like I didn’t connect very much with either MC. I’m not sure what it was, but they didn’t feel very distinct as their own person and the only thing I felt they had in common was their love for cooking. It’s not a problem if the FMC and the MMC have similar personalities, but they did feel like they were the same person in the sense I couldn’t say what made Sara uniquely different from Tony or vice versa. I wish they had a bit more character development and insight into things outside of their family and cooking that they separately liked. There were also so many characters to keep up with that I skimmed through several chapters because it was hard to keep each character separate. Like I would try to remember why Bridget Kelly was at Dolores Rodriguez’s house, or which Kelly brother had a thing for Sara’s best friend. I think it took away from building better development and chemistry between Tony and Sara 📝

・❥・・❥・I think the strongest point of this book was how it delved deep into Latin American and Cuban culture! It was super interesting to see all the different foods being described as part of their rich cuisine and the many traditions that Latinos have held in their families for years. The story had so many different foods and drinks that had me searching them up while reading because it made me curious to know what exactly each one was (like ropa vieja, picadillo, guarapo, and tostones)! I think it’s great to showcase such beautiful cultures and people of colour in romance stories, especially since it wasn’t as featured or as accepted as much as it is now. I loved the dialogue and use of Spanish between the members of the Cuban families, as it reminded me of how I switch between English and Tagalog as someone belonging to a Filipino family. I think it was also interesting to learn more Spanish through this book through the little words used. It adds a hidden and extra layer of meaning and comedy to the book itself that you wouldn’t understand if you didn’t know what those words meant 📖

Tropes:
- Friends to lovers 💓
- Up-and-coming chef FMC x celebrity chef MMC
- Brother’s best friend
- POC representation with Cuban-American MMC 🇨🇺
- Third person POV
- Closed-door romance 🚪

Way to go, Hallmark! I’m so proud of them as a publisher for publishing South Beach Love. The siblings best friend trope is my favorite so I adored that being in the story. Loved the Cuban culture, Quinceanera planning, all the descriptions of food. The writing was fantastic and I really enjoyed Caridad’s way of telling the story. I want more diverse romances like this from Hallmark!

This is a picture-perfect Hallmark story. Two families, closely connected since childhood, become reacquainted for their dear nieces' quinceaneras. Trying to do things in the best interest of their nieces, Sara and Tony find themselves pitted against one another for the local magazine.

I would have enjoyed a bit more of the actual quinceanera and the aftermath of the media coverage. The ending seemed a bit rushed.

Two chefs are pitted against each other, each determined to make their niece’s quinceañera the best Miami’s South Beach has ever seen. Tony Sanchez left Little Havana in his rear window a long time ago, but he hasn’t found happiness as executive chef of his own restaurant in New York. Being back in Miami is making him think maybe his heart is somewhere else… and that might just be with Sara, younger sister of his childhood best friend, now a successful chef in her own right running her restaurant Munch with the help of an all-female crew, many of whom Sara has trained herself after finding them at a local women’s centre.

The two nieces, Angelica and Samantha, are rivals of sorts, and a local journalist hypes up a ‘competition’ between two top chefs which set Tony and Sara at odds with each other, despite their willingness to work together. Sara, as a female chef, is up against barriers Tony has no idea exists, and I loved the way she called him on it and made him step back and think.

The descriptions of the food were absolutely amazing; lots of authentic Cuban recipes with some gourmet twists. If you’re not hungry when you start reading, you soon will be! This is a Hallmark so the action doesn’t get any hotter than a few chaste kisses, but the romance doesn’t suffer for it; I absolutely bought into Tony and Sara as a couple. Five stars for a thoroughly enjoyable foodie romance with strong Cuban flair!

This was a wonderful Hallmark romance that I enjoyed. Two chefs who knew each other growing up, are planning on catering the fifteenth birthday parties of their nieces. It is a Cuban celebration of coming of age for girls known as quinceañeras. Only one of the celebrations will be chosen to be featured in the local paper, and both of these chefs want it to be theirs. Tony Sanchez is a chef in his own restaurant in New York, but misses his hometown of Miami. He wants his party to be featured for his family and for recognition to open his own place. Sara Kelly, not Cuban, learns about the traditions from her Latina sister-in-law. She runs her own restaurant in Miami while supporting women in need. She would love to open another place to help as many people as she can. As the contest heats up, so do the rekindled feelings between Tony and Sara.

This was exactly the type of story I love coming from Hallmark. It is full of wonderful characters, a great community, some roadblocks, and good deeds. I loved how the young girls become friends and work together to make not only the parties a success, but to help bring their aunt and uncle together. I learned about this custom and celebration as well as some wonderful sounding food. A clean romance that made me smile. I would definitely watch this one if it is made into a movie.

Tony Sanchez is a celebrated New York chef, having recently received his first (Michelin?) star. He agrees to come back home to Miami for a month to cater his niece's quinceañera party. Sara Kelly has also agreed to cater her niece's quinceañera party, taking place the same weekend. A local reporter learns about the quinceañeras and tries to pit the two chefs against each other to earn attention for her magazine. However, the two chefs already have a burgeoning attraction between them. Can anything happen when Tony is slated to go back to New York when the parties are over.

This story was sweet and wholesome in true Hallmark style. I think my favorite part of the book is how the two girls went from being rivals to best friends. Hallmark always loves to include a recipe at the end of their books, but I don't find it believable for this recipe that a chef who has received a Michelin star would use a cake mix to make his tres leches cake with banana and coconut. Those with a love for Cuban food will love all the mouth-watering descriptions in the book. Frankie Corzo did a wonderful job narrating the audiobook.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

Welcome to Miami! As I finish up my mom vacation, I finished reading South Beach Love - the perfect book to read while listening to the ocean roar outside my windows.

I loved every part of this story. Every. Part. I loved reading about Tony and Sara in the kitchen, especially reading about the different Cuban food they were preparing or eating. Couple that with their shared past, where Sara had a crush on Tony, and seeing where they were now in their lives was the perfect Hallmark romance *insert chef's kiss here.* As Hallmark romances are never just about the couple, we also get to meet Tony and Sara's extended families, and how their family dynamics play out. An added bonus to this story was the rivalry between the nieces, Angelica and Samantha. This is a lot to pack into one story, but don't worry - it all works so well together!

The best part? South Beach Love is now a Hallmark movie! I can’t wait to see this one play out on TV and compare it to the story. It premieres on October 9th! You know I will be tuning in.

This one gave me all my warm and fuzzy Hallmark feels. It’s heartwarming, full of family love and romance. Pick this one up if you are a Hallmark romance fan!!

I was so hungry as I was reading this book! The receipes, the food, I could almost taste it! I don't think I have ever read a book this focused on the food the characters were preparing, but I am here for it.
Award winning Chef Tony Sanchez is back in Little Havana for his niece's big party. He is helping his sister plan and also prepare the food for the party. When he gets home, he realizes just how much he misses his family. He also runs into an old college friend, Rick, who tells Tony to go visit his sister's restaurant, Munch. He remembers Sara from when they were younger and always liked her a lot. He wasn't aware that she was a chef too, and when he tastes her food, he realizes she is amazing.
Sara has always had a thing for her brother's friend Tony, so when he shows up at Munch wanting to taste her food, she is all flustered. She will also be cooking for her niece's party, and the two girls are rivals. Feelings quickly become involved and Sara is left wondering how badly she will break when Tony goes back to New York.
Tony has other plans, he is taken by Sara and can't let her go, but will the two of them be able to conquer all of the obstacles put in their way and a long distance relationship? This book was so heartwarming and cute, but did I mention the food? It made the book. This was a very clean romance, which is what I expected from a Hallmark book. I loved how it set us up for the rest of the characters in the book to get their own stories.
The narrator did a great job and I loved the accents. The book was very low angst and just a feel good listen. Thank you to Netgalley, Caridad Pineiro and Hallmark Publishing for an early audio copy.

What better time to “discover “ a new author, than with a Hallmark Publishing novel.
The story centers around two chefs, Tony Sánchez and Sara Kelly.
Tony, a respected chef in NYC, is back home in Miami for a visit and determined to give his niece the best “quinceañero” ever.
When he meets up with his long time friend, he finds out his friend’s sister, Sara, is also a chef, owns a restaurant and has agreed to cater her niece’s “quinceañero”.
When they finally meet again, neither realized they each had had a crush on the other.
This clean, sweet, touching story brought fond memories since I am a Latina and “quinceaños” were a part of my youth.
In this quintessential Hallmark story, filled with lots of food, we are reminded of the importance of family , new beginnings, hope and of course romance.
Always crowd pleasing and one you’ll enjoy from beginning to end.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Hallmark Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Offering sweetness and spice in equal measures, South Beach Love is chock full of romance, friendship, and tons of mouthwatering cooking montages. It is a love letter to both Miami and the traditions of its Cuban community.

Caridad Pineiro does a fantastic job of bringing the tight-knit neighborhood Little Havana to life, giving the book wonderful local color. The romance that blossoms between chefs Tony and Sara as they prepare for their nieces' respective quinceaneras is really sweet and the additional side romances are a wonderful bonus. I also really appreciated that this subverted the trope of the girl being the one who has come back to her hometown. This is my favorite Hallmark book that I have read so far and I sincerely hope that this gets turned into a future Summer Nights movie!

Thank you to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review!

South Beach Love is a true Hallmark-style book. It is full of family relationships, food, and love.

Executive Chef Tony Sanchez, originally from Miami, owns a Park Avenue restaurant in New York City. Chef Sara Kelly, who was inspired to cook by her Irish grandmother, owns the Miami-based eatery, Munch, specializing in small bites. Tony and Sara each agree to cater their niece's Quinceañera celebrations in Miami. Tony's niece, Angelica, and Sara's niece, Samantha, are high school rivals, so that adds to the competition. Each cook is trying to win the competition and be featured in a news article, but what will happen along the way?

It is a cute story, very predictable, but makes for light reading.#NetGalley

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio and it had me listening and rooting for both of them to find their way. Tony has come home for his niece's quinceañera and Sara and volunteered to cater her one for her niece. This wouldn't be bad but a reporter is out for blood when she is assigned the story and tries to twist them against each other. There has always been something between them, first friendship and now maybe something more but with all the goings on, including the grumblings with the girls and then the make up of the girls, this is a wonderful story! Hallmark does it again! I was entertained from beginning to end.

Caridad Pineiro brings us the story of two chefs with two different approaches to food who end up competing with each other when their families ask them to help celebrate their nieces quinceaneras. Tony and Sara must decide if the attraction they feel for each other can be explored or if this competition will bring out the worst in them and their families as they vie for a spot to showcase themselves in the newspaper.

Caridad Pineiro brings us a story of coming back home and what you might find there. She also shows off the food each chef creates and make you want to visit their restaurants. I enjoyed reading about Tony and Sara as well as their families as they navigate getting ready for these family celebrations while realizing their feelings for each other.

I look forward to reading more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for this privilege.

Tony is an executive chef at a New York restaurant. He comes for a long overdue trip to Miami to see family and to help with his niece's quinceanera. Sara is also a chef in Miami with her own restaurant to promote. She also has a niece whom she will be helping with her quinceanera. Add to the pressure of creating the perfect menu, there is also a competition to be featured in the local paper.
This was a nice slow burn (clean) romance. I would have liked more in the end. Don't read if you are hungry (lots of descriptions of food).

One irresistible romance? More like a resistible romance. No sex scene???

Also, poor development of secondary characters. Do Bridget and Javi get together? Do Jeri and Rick get together?

Slay Tony for buying Sara an emerald engagement ring, but why the hasty marriage? No mention of religion but there’s some Christian undertones here for sure…

I will say this book made me hungry and I’ve never felt more like a chef in my life. Who wants to pull up to Miami?

Full Review on The Candid Cover

South Beach Love by Caridad Piñeiro is an uplifting romance that foodies will love. Depicting two chefs catering rival quinceañeras, this one contains a strong female lead and mouthwatering descriptions of Cuban food. While I was expecting more competition and tension from this one, I would still recommend it to those looking for a sweet story centring family and friendship.

When renowned chef Tony comes back to Miami to cater his niece’s quinceañera, he doesn’t expect to find his friend’s little sister running a restaurant of her own. When the two meet, they realize there is chemistry between them, but as it turns out, Sara is also catering her niece’s quinceañera, and her niece is Tony’s own niece’s rival. To make matters worse, a journalist turns the ordeal into a competition, only granting one quinceañera exposure in the paper. As Tony and Sara grow closer, they must navigate their new relationship while working against each other.

❀ STRONG MAIN CHARACTER

This one contains two main characters, Tony and Sara. I enjoyed Sara’s strength, and through her character, we learn about the many struggles women face in the restaurant industry. Winning the “competition” matters to her because it is difficult to gain exposure as a woman running a new restaurant, and she must work twice as hard to be taken seriously. I also loved how Sara has a big heart and trains women in need to work at her restaurant. I found Tony a little plain, and the romance is very insta-lovey, but I was willing to overlook this for the feminist themes.

❀ NOT A COMPETITION STORY

I think what disappointed me about this book is that it was not what I was expecting. The synopsis hypes up the “competition,” but I didn’t find there to be much competition at all. Going into this book, I was expecting something with more tension, and maybe the enemies to lovers trope, and I would have liked to see more about the chefs preparing for the quinceañeras. For me, the slow-paced and low-stakes plot fell flat.

❀ HEARTWARMING BOOK ABOUT FRIENDSHIP

South Beach Love by Caridad Piñeiro is a heartwarming story about food, friendship, and family. I enjoyed the concept of two rival quinceañeras, and the feminist messages were a nice surprise. While the plot wasn’t what I was expecting, those who enjoy more friendship-focused stories will enjoy this one.

Can totally see this as a Hallmark movie in the future!

Two chefs are in charge of the menus for their battling nieces' quinceañeras -- who will have the best party? Until unfortunate circumstances for them to join together - and Sara and Tony are forced into the kitchen together. It's Hallmark, so of course there is a bit of drama and a happily ever after.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary digital ARC in return for my review.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm always a fan of the best friend's little sister trope and this one didn't disappoint. Tony and Sara are both chefs who are in town to celebrate their nieces. Trouble starts when a magazine tries to manufacture a feud. I like how both Tony, Sara, and their neices handle the situation.

Thank you netgalley for this book.

This is the kind of book that I tend to enjoy reading! It is light, vibrant & encompasses everything from family, relationship, drama, and a tinge of humour (not a surprise, coming from a fan of hallmark movies). Throw in a little bit spice, in this case everything Cuban makes it much more enthralling. Oh and I absolutely love the Tres Leche recipe at the end of the book!

This story was exactly what one would expect for a Hallmark story. First and foremost, it's always clean and wholesome, so it's the same for all readers of Romance. South Beach Love is light-hearted and has an engaging storyline that explores the themes of family, friendship, and love.

This fun book is best read along with a Cuban cookbook. As I was almost done, I told my husband it was making me hungry for a Cubano sandwich. He promptly volunteered to make one for me. It was delicious!

Tony grew up in Little Havana in Miami, but it’s been several years since he’s been home. He’s a big time chef in New York City now, with a hit restaurant. Yes, he’s burnt out from the paperwork and business of running a restaurant, and he doesn’t get to cook like he used to, but that’s the price he’s willing to pay for the acclaim and success. When his sister calls and asks him to come home to help with the menu planning for his niece’s quinceanera (15th birthday celebration), he’s not sure he can leave the restaurant for that long. But he agrees. He could use the break and he hasn’t been home for too long.

Sara Kelly is Tony’s best friend’s younger sister and she has a restaurant in Miami. She had a crush on Tony when she was a teenager, but she’s over that now. Her restaurant specializes in upscale twists on comfort food and is crowded every night. Her niece is also turning 15, and Sara’s sister-in-law asks Sara to help plan the menu.

Tony visits Sara’s restaurant and is impressed with both the food, and his friend’s all-grown-up sister.

Everything would be headed to a happily-ever-after, except for a reporter. She’s assigned to write a story about the resurgence of quinceaneras among the Cuban population of Miami. When she hears that two acclaimed chefs are handling the two menus, she sees her angle. She deliberately baits Sara and Tony, putting them in competition with each other. She will only feature one chef in her article. Both of them need the exposure and publicity the article will garner. Tony wants to open a new restaurant in Miami, so he can return more often, maybe even move back, closer to family and Sara. Sara wants to open a second restaurant. She trains women who need job skills to work in her kitchen. With another restaurant, she can help more women and ease the crowding at the first restaurant.

Since this is a Hallmark Publishing book, of course, Tony and Sara are able to work out the competition and their relationship. This book was a bit of a departure for Hallmark, in that Cuban and Latin culture, language and food were all featured predominantly. It wasn’t just white people in a white town baking white cake (no offense to people who like white cake–I love it!) But it was refreshing to read about a different culture. And remind me how delicious picadillo and porchetta are. Not to mention that Cubano sandwich.

This was a fun book and I highly recommend it.

I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher, but that did not induce me to review it, either favorably or not.

Five Flavorful, Romantic Stars.South Beach Love: A feel-good romance from Hallmark PublishingCaridad Piñeiro
Fall in love with delectable regional and eclectic cuisine, vividly described by Caridad Pineiro in South Beach Love, as you meet Chef Tony and Chef Sara Kelly, who have a love storyline of their own. Readers of South Beach Love will be rushing, like me, to find a local Cuban restaurant. After finishing the book, I found myself craving not only dishes described in the book such as tostones with mojo sauce, but also more knowledge about Cuban culture and cuisine.
Accomplished Executive Chef Tony Sanchez, originally from Miami, owns a Park Avenue restaurant in New York City. Chef Sara Kelly, who was inspired to cook by her Irish grandmother, owns the Miami based Munch, specializing in small bites. She also learned to cook with Cuban flair from her sister-in-law. Tony and Sara each agree to cater their niece's Quinceañera fifteenth birthday celebrations in Miami, planned for different nights. Tony's niece, Angelica, and Sara's niece, Samantha, are high school rivals, though, so that adds flavor to the spicy story about celebration, competition, cooking, and community connections in Little Havana. There is potential for one chef to be featured in a Miami news article.
PIneiro excels at vibrant descriptive imagery of setting, food, decor, and relationships. Narrator Frankie Corzo's pleasant voice blends perfectly for a pleasing listening experience. Whether it's a romantic date night at an oceanside Miami restaurant or preparation of ramekins of flan with caramel, your senses will enjoy being in the moment with these two chefs. A bonus is a surprise recipe, featuring two of my favorite flavors, banana and coconut!
Thank you to Net Galley, Hallmark Publishing, and Dreamscape Media for an Advance Reader's copy audiobook, and I'm happy to provide my review.

Okay so I am not going to lie, the first 40% was really show for me and I was really tempted to DNF it. Boy am I glad that I stuck with it! This is one story that I really feel would be better seen on the big screen (or on the Hallmark channel), usually I tend to like the book better. I just felt that it had a slow start and the part that actually got me into the story was actually because it made me mad and I felt like I was hate reading it LOL.

Starting off, my least favorite trope in a romance is the whole “miscommunication leads to a blow up” trope. You guessed it, this book has that, but wait, it gets worse. The magazine that is doing the quince feature decides to up its viewers but pitting the two chefs against each other and that is how they find out they are both cooking for a quince. Sara has a fit that Tony did not tell her (even though she didn’t tell him she was too or really even ask what brought him to town…). Then, she kind of guilts him into backing down for the completion by saying she needs this because she helps women in shelters find jobs by training them as a cook and it is harder for women to be financed for a business and she wants to open up a second location. Look, I get it. As a women, I feel that BUT she is not proving anything by asking a man to back down. Work hard, EARN IT. Then when Tony says he feel for her but he needs this too so he will not back down like she asked, she denies asking… Oh girl. Then there is a fight because Tony asks if she should be asking him to back down because this his his culture and his field of cooking were as Sara is not Cuban and does not make this food ever. What a mess, especially with the current culture freaking out about cultural appropriation. This got me mad too. I’m not sure why she was so offended. Maybe I’m in the wrong but I get that cooks make food that is out of their culture but telling someone of that actual culture that you deserve to make that food more than them seems wrong. I understand if you study and learn the culture behind it but that is different than actually living it. What are your thoughts on this? How would you view this argument they are having?

At this point, the best rating I was willing to give was a 3/5. Obviously, I had a change of heart. As mentioned, this is what really got me into the story and even thought I was angry, I became invested. Darn you Hallmark! It’s always the endings; the cute scheming on all the side characters’ part to get the couple together, the whole family-ness of the environment, that amazing food, and cliche of it all just works magic. I bought into it, LOL. It was just so cute to see Tony and Sara in the kitchen together and how much Tony just loved Sara (I feel he was more open with his feelings). I liked it, I would not buy my own copy but I would watch it if they made it into a movie/show. I also feel that this could be book 1 in a trilogy but it looks like a standalone novel as of yet.
