A very good read. It’s a full-on, action-packed page-turner. Our characters have matured in the three books they were always likeable, and now they can look after themselves without relying on others to fight for them. It's an edge-of-your-seat book and a riveting read.
This series is non-stop survival!! People in this new dystopian world are ruthless, they are trying to survive. But doing so at the cost of other people’s lives is unacceptable. Raine, Scott, Brandon, Lucy, Sheena, etc are fighting for their lives and those of their friends. I’m very curious to see how things will turn out, or if anyone else will die, in the next and I think last book. These characters are layered and growing throughout the series, but it’s sad that they have to grow into stronger, harder people.
If you enjoy Survival/Dystopian/Thriller then you will love this series!!!
This series took a downward turn for me with this book. The actual EMP takes a complete backseat to the rescue-from-the-cartel story. Nothing about trying to survive in winter without electricity etc, but the disaster was apparently a mechanism to dilute any real law enforcement response to the crazy stuff going on in this rural area. An entire town attacks the visitors at the Ward farm with lethal intent because they fear a dozen guys in a cartel holding people hostage? Why not go after the cartel? After all of that savagery at the Ward farm and the cartel stronghold and killing off some token good guys, JJ ends up being a cold-hearted jerk whose final words are a snark to someone who risked it all to rescue her. Not sure that I actually care what happens at this point.
An excellent third book from this exciting end of the world series! I really enjoyed this, none stop action from the start! A good read, well thought out plot lines & good rounded characters! I always look froward to more by this writer!!
Our group of survivors have found a place to rest and take stock of the new world they find themselves in. They have a farmhouse with food and animals and they have a few weapons to defend themselves. Things look good but for how long? Well, the answer is not long when a drug cartel is searching for your friend because they want their money back. TL Payne gives us a tense, fraught story where you’re never sure who, if anyone, will make it to the end of the book. This time things are far more personal when JJ and Scott are attacked as they set out alone leaving the group behind. This is another well written, fast paced roller coaster ride with threats coming from all sides, including the local townspeople who want the newcomers to move on. What impresses me most was the emotional ride these characters take as the threats just keep coming. There are emotions and consequences for the actions of these characters that give the story life. This is a great addition to a series that I’ve loved from the first book, recommended.
The book was getting on my nerves because of the man character she was acting like a little whiny brat with all the stuff that she had in do it I mean all the wine is she was doing was practically nerve wracking and didn't make any sense with the stuff that was going on with her mind. Then you want and kill gauge a little kid and nick so I was very weary with reading the rest of the book because yeah Didn't like that. But I pushed on How ever what was the point of killing Russell I don't get it so yeah I didn't like this book so that's why you got 3 stars
I really liked this book. As a third book, I think it really brought everything together in the end from finding JJ to solving the problem with the cartel. I really liked that this book focused more on JJ and her problem with her ex husband. When I was reading the first and second books, I thought it was weird that her husband was part of the cartel and how they were chasing her during the post apocolips but over time I realized that it added a good twist to the book. Over all, I really enjoyed reading this book and the series.
Definitely another page turner in the Gateway to Chaos series! This is my second EMP series that has not disappointed me. I like how the characters barely knew each other to later find relationships with each other that will affect them later. The " family unity" is strong in the stories whether the characters are related or not. Can't wait to move on to book 4 to see what happens as they all move forward to their destinations and travels wherever the road may lead them
JJ met Scott when the EMP hit and they are on the run from JJ’s ex-husband and his associates of a drug cartel. They meet up with Raine and her neighbors and friends in St. louis and join forces. They settle in on a farm owned by Mrs Ward but the people there try to run them out of the county. It will take all their strength to survive the assaults coming at them.
The book was getting to me because of the man character was acting like a little whiny brat and also as a potential doctor, not having the guts to move forward with what needs to be done. I think this part was overdone and it came up and came up and came up. These people keep making the same stupid mistakes--caught in ambushes...loosing guns. Did anyone proof read this? I'll stick around until the fourth and final book--just to see if it gets any better.
I enjoyed this story and all the other stories by T.L. Payne. While enduring the pandemic we are now facing, these stories become more real. We are experiencing a breakdown in society and a change in what is normal. I hope life does not become as difficult as it is in these stories, but time will tell.
This book started off good , well the first book that was written did but as the books go on the worse they get .
Why am I even still reading them? Good question ut i think it's purely because i want to see if the final ending is gonna be as shit as the actual books have been .
I really wanted give to e stars, but it seemed like the author forgot what he Wrote, even in the same paragraph. for example: Scott, put his rifle by his feet as he stood on the chair in the kitchen. (Later in same paragraph) there we're no chairs in the kitchen. Lots of misspelling and grammatical errors. But a good read.
So far, this was the most heartbreaking of the series! With very few errors I was still able to truly enjoy another great piece of work from T.L. Payne and I can not wait to read the rest of what she has to offer! I get so mesmerized at how much you feel with her work, how you put yourself into the characters positions. Truly Amazing!
This KU library selection takes place in rural areas south of St Louis, as the band of survivors from the Del Mar Apartments, plus a few friends, make their way to 'safety'. Society has broken down, people are fighting for survival and there are no safety nets. But there are glimpses of decency in this new, unforgiving world. They're just few and far between.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book. I was captivated throughout. I would recommend this book to someone with an open mind and a sense of adventure! I chose a Five star rating because there wasn’t one boring part in the whole book. It was sad toward the end. I hope the characters will go get some rest.
Can't wait for the next installment of the series. The New characters that were introduced into this book brought some hope and help to the group, but also brought different problems.
This 3rd book is a fast read, leaving you wanting more! As you follow the characters the author builds up their personalities digging deep into who they are. Can’t wait to read book 4
Hold onto your seat because you are in for a thrilling rollercoaster ride! This one has non stop action from the first page to the last. I am so glad I found this series on Kindle Unlimited. Happy ☺reading 📚and listening!
This is another great well written book. Found this author through another apocalyptic writer and so glad I did. This story is a continuation from the first books all about losing the the power and the survivors who confront this emp battered world.
These people keep making the same stupid mistakes, caught in ambushes. Continually being attacked and not taking firearms when they have the opportunity and throwing them away when out of ammunition. Frustrating to read such crap.
So much pain and loss when the lights go out. The cruelty that shows it's face is to be expected in a post apocalyptic world. Only when good band together to eradicate it does the world have a chance. Great story and a high recommendation.
The third book in the series continues on with the action as they try to find a home and family. I would recommend this book if you are interested in the Apocalypse.
Absolutely loving this series. Its non stop drama happening for our group of characters that are just trying to find a safe place to live. Well worth reading. Can't wait for the next book !
Love this series. The characters are well developed and the plot is entirely believable. Hoping to see what happens next. Why are the people of this small town so hostile?
