Hooking Up with Mr Wrong

College was supposed to be the start of something new ... and boy, was it!

I saw my college experience in my head: studying for my dream job in one of the big 5 publishing houses, hanging out with my friends, being there for my sister and enjoying my new dorm room ... but nothing would’ve prepared me for my new dorm neighbor.

Blue eyed, six foot pain in my butt!

You think I’m kidding? Ha!

Well let me tell you:

1. He plays his music too loud and turns it up when I try to study

2. He steals my favorite booth at the local diner

3. He purposefully chases away my dates
And what’s worse?

4. One drunken night of weakness leads me to getting knocked up by him.

Try having a baby with someone you hate, I dare you.

Debut novel and a new author for me! I wasn't sure what to expect, so with trepidation I dived in not knowing what I was about to get myself into.

First time reads for new authors are always risky for the reader and the author you don't want to be harsh but you also want to be supportive. I have to say my fears were unfounded. The story development and the pace were fantastic.

The characters were engaging. The chemistry was hot. The dialogue was awesome, especially between our leads. Back and fourth like a ping pong it all worked. Secondary characters that are well developed are my jam, it gives a reader a look into the future to see what may be coming with the next book. And these guys are solid gold. The hilarity was off the hook with them.

If your after a read that delivers on all points than you can't go past Hooking Up With Mr Wrong.

Its a YES from me.

✨ A little over a year ago Elle reached out and sweetly asked if I had any interest in beta reading this book and obviously I said yes. I really enjoyed this book then, and receiving an ARC copy over a year later and seeing the way the book evolved and seeing some of my comments taken into consideration was really neat for me, also reading the acknowledgements and knowing that I was part of getting this book out into the world as what it is today was such a cool feeling!

✨ Hooking Up With Mr. Wrong is Ellouise Liston’s debut novel and it is seriously an adorable story! The characters are sweet, genuine, and real which are all character qualities I greatly appreciate in a book! While the unexpected pregnancy trope is not my favorite I appreciate the way that Ellouise wrote this book and these characters, I love the realness of how Ava and Conner handle their situation and I adore Conner and how is so sweet and accepting of the pregnancy and never blames her and doesn’t act like a Douchbag about it.
Ava for the most part is assertive character which I love in a heroine when it really gets down to it she doesn’t let herself, her baby, or Conner get disrespected. She’s also real in a way that you can relate to her insecurities and humor which I love.

✨ Overall Hooking Up With Mr. Wrong is a solid debut novel and I can’t wait to see where Ellouise goes from her!
I know I’ll be by Elle’s side as we get the next books in this series! 🤍✨🖤✨🤍

Ava & Conner were dorm neighbors and Ava hated every fiber of Conner’s being because quite frankly, he was the neighbor from hell. A year later, Ava was happy to part ways, but as it turned out, the universe wanted Conner in her life. After one too many drinks at a house party, Ava ends up in Conner’s bedroom and after admitting her attraction to him, Ava & Conner spend one night together.

They thought they could leave that one night behind them until Ava discovers she’s pregnant. And now Ava & Conner will be forced to not only co-parent but face their true feelings for each other...

Hooking Up With Mr. Wrong is Ellouise Liston’s debut novel. I really liked Ellouise’s easy writing style and it definitely didn’t read like a debut novel! There were some elements I loved within this story, primarily the strong friendship group. Unfortunately, the main drama in the book is about a friend of Conner taking advantage of his kindness, trying to become more than friends. Conner was too nice & blind to his friend’s advances and that type of plot line just doesn’t work for me. This is a college new adult romance so I definitely expected some drama & Ellouise delivered on that. So if that specific type of conflict doesn’t bother you & you love NA romance, this definitely will be for you because I did enjoy this author’s writing style a lot! 3/5 stars.

I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I was excited to received this as an ARC! I was hooked from the beautiful cover and while the secret baby trope isn’t one I usually go for, I was pleasantly surprised at how I fell in love with Ava and Conner’s banter!

Their relationship felt real, with how Ava truly didn’t like him and believed he felt the same way, but Conner was a man who was willing to do whatever it took to keep his family together.

My only personal bummer was the scenes started as steamy and faded to black, but you guys know me, I’m super smutty! ❤️

Thank you for writing a lovely book, awesome debut, and I look forward to more future work!

I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.

I was really lucky to have been asked around a year ago to BETA read this debut book by the author. I was super excited to get stuck in, and it is so awesome reading an ARC for it all these months later and seeing the changes.

❤ Enamies to lovers
❤ College romance
❤ Accidental pregnancy
❤ Slow burn

I really enjoyed this story a lot, I loved the humor that was in there, the banter between Conner and Ava and how much they loved to hate each other. Until the alcohol hits and the truth comes out as it always does of course.

Conner and Ava have quite the connection, though they hide from it for quite some time both scared to make a move, or perhaps it is because they are both stubborn.

I really enjoyed the storyline and loved how it played out. I loved Conners parents and the wonderful influence they have with their son and I love how they embraced Eva no questions asked.

Looking forward to Mias story next.

Thanks for the ARC and the chance to read this for you Ellouise.

‘Hooking up with Mr wrong‘ is a college romance with a surprise pregnancy from enemies to lovers told in both MC’s P.O.V. Their rollercoaster love story is filled with high and low drama that the main characters experience by falling in love the opposite way around.

What l liked about this book was the beginning with the rivalry between Ava and Conner that over time turn into cheesy goodness. Another thing that I enjoyed about the book is that the main characters chose to keep the baby and work towards being better parents together whilst continuing college.

Now for the stuff I wasn’t a fan of, the hooking up part, l didn’t like how it happened and there were words Conner said to Ava in the book that didn’t ethically line up even though it’s fiction l just wished the wording was different or at least better explained about what happened that night.

Overall if you like enemies to lovers that elevate quickly or here to get your New Adult romance fix and love reading Wattpad types story’s this books for you.

So, I have to be in the right mood to read an accidental baby romance, and I am so glad I waited until I was to read Hooking Up with Mr Wrong. Ellouise’s writing was just what I needed at the moment, with heartfelt moments and sweetness at times, but humour and charm too.

On Ava’s first day of college, she’s disturbed by her dorm neighbour’s music. Her neighbour turns out to be Conner, gorgeous and charming, but she doesn’t fall for his tricks. They get off to a rough start, with both of the knowing exactly how to push each other’s buttons, but there’s this underlying tension between them from the start. Throughout the year, they pop up in each other’s lives, and by the time they are sophomores, Conner’s living with one of Ava’s closest friends and they begin to spend more time together. One night at a party, a very drunk Ava hooks up with Conner, and she’s mortified the next morning. So, when she discovers she’s pregnant, she has no idea what to do. Once Conner finds out, he goes into overprotective daddy bear mode, and insists he wants to be involved in the baby’s, and Ava’s, life. Will Ava let Conner, who started out as the hot, annoying guy next door, into her life, and heart?

It took me a while to get into this one, purely because I didn’t instantly click with Ava, as she had no real reason to dislike Conner as much as she did because he didn’t ever do anything to intentionally annoy her, so I couldn’t understand why they were at odds. But by the time she found out she was pregnant, I was invested in their story, and really liked her character the more I got to know her. She did a lot of self-reflecting and came to realise that she had never been treated with love and respect, and that was all Conner treated her with once he found out she was pregnant, and the way he would’ve all along if she wasn’t snarky towards him for the first year they knew each other. She learnt how to love someone other than her sister and her lifelong friends, and for someone who had a difficult past as she did, that was a monumental hurdle to cross, whilst also helping Conner mend his own broken bridges in his family.

I loved how Conner came in and convinced Ava he wanted her for her, not just because of the baby, and to me, his feelings were clear from the start. It was the age-old tale of a boy teasing you because he likes you, but because of Ava’s history, she saw that as him just being mean. I was impressed with how Conner stepped up once the shock of the baby news wore off, talk about some swoon worthy moments, and while he did make mistakes, I felt like they were usual for a teenage guy. He was the perfect level of protective, and he never made Ava feel like they had to become more. He never pushed her out of her comfort zone and let her come to the decision of them as a couple her own, but that didn’t mean he didn’t flirt up a storm with her or call her out when needed. I liked how they became a team, and how the baby was literally first for anything, but my favourite scene was when he helped her look at her body differently – literally swoon worthy, he loved her before the baby and even more after!!

The secondary characters only added to the story, and I began to predict the next couples in the series, btu Logan had to be my favourite, his one liners and just general man-childness had me howling, I can’t wait to see which girl knocks him off his feet! Whilst Conner and Ava’s story was kind of predictable, it was such an enjoyable read!

The moment I started reading I couldn’t stop. I was completely sucked into the story and devoured this book. It is a fantastic debut novel and a fantastic start to a series.

The moment Ava and Conner met in the dorms there was a connection between them. I loved the back and forth banter these two had. They continued to run into each other their freshman year and poked each other’s buttons. Ava didn’t expect to see Conner again, however, he is the roommate of one her best friends. While Ava was focused on school and getting her dream job, she also wasn’t afraid to have a little fun. However, one night that forever changed her life and now a permanent connection to the one person she can’t stand, Conner.

Conner first came across as kind of a jerk who just loved to mess with Ava, however, as the story progressed and you learn more about him. He has a sweet side and a protective side, even if he does make a few mistakes. I loved that he steps up and he is truly there for Ava. I enjoyed Ava, too. She was scared and worried, like anyone in her situation would be, but the amount of love and support she had from her friends and her sister, plus Conner was amazing. Despite the button pushing, there is some chemistry between Conner and Ava. I loved that they went from enemies to friend to lovers. I loved the growth of their relationship, even if it was a little bit of a slow burn.

Their group of friends was also amazing. I not only fell in love with Conner and Ava, but the secondary characters. They played a big role throughout the story and I loved the little makeshift family they have all become. I can’t wait for more of the series and to get more of all these characters in the future.

If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, slow burn, accidental pregnancy romance this is one to check out.

“I’m just saying, you’ve got this whole hot, smart thing going. If you weren’t so uptight, more guys may notice.”
I roll my eyes, putting my hands on my hips. “Yes, because that is my life goal. To be noticed by a boy.”
He raises his brows, catching the tone I am projecting and raises his hands in surrender. “I’m just saying,” he says before walking away only to stop just as he reaches the door, turning back to me. “For the record, I like uptight.”

Two college kids who have a love/hate relationship until a drunken one night stand brings them closer than they ever thought they’d be

Conner and Ava find themselves in a precarious situation, but make the best of the hand they’re dealt. I liked the pace of the story. It didn’t seem rushed and was a bit of a slow burn...well, after the one night stand. Conner was a great hero...always being super patient and never giving up hope. I also really enjoyed the secondary characters. Conners roommates were funny and charming and I love how they all took Ava under their wings.

This is Ellouise Liston’s debut novel and I appreciate her including me in her journey. I was kindly provided with an ARC for my honest review.

Conner and Ava story is full of love, misunderstanding , laughing, regret and an evil person!!!
This is a beautiful easy read that will suck you in to see where it goes.
I wanted to bang their heads together in some spots,it leaves you exasperated but true to life 😁.
She's also sneaky as there are threads that you hope will lead to more books.

Loved!!! Enemies to Lovers done right!!!

I love a good enemies to lovers especially when the characters are enemies for a significant part of the book...and Hooking Up With Mr. Wrong does enemies to lovers right.

Ava and Connor start off on the wrong foot freshman year of college and dislike each other. They antagonize each other (in a good natured annoying way) for years and I liked how we get glimpses of their interactions and I was laughing so much at some of them.

A drunken hookup between them results in something neither expected and this is definitely a bit of a slow burn from enemies to expecting parents to friends to more. It was NOT an easy ride and Ava and Connor really has to grow up in this story and we get to see this.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was funny, had tons of chemistry and yes, steam. They have a great group of friends that provided endless entertainment and there is a good villain that added some good drama too. I would definitely recommend!!

Not for me - I found the MFC annoying and very judgmental of other woman around her on how she would describe them. ( found it rude) specially speaking about a pregnant woman with 5 more kids running around and acting crazy the fact that the MFC could say ( great parenting in a sarcastic way) shows me she has no idea about how hard it is to raise so many children ( kids are meant to play & scream that’s just how they are) or the nurse directing her to her room she describes her as a woman with a face caked with makeup ( didn’t need to go there)
Even better the description about her manager and her heavy footsteps because she’s a big woman (Not cool)
Make me dislike the MFC and couldn’t care less what happens in this book. Nor good I see what the Mmc could see in her.
the whole situation is all on her
She hates mmc on her opinion alone and in actual fact he was nothing but nice to her.
I just couldn’t get into it or connect with them.

again I will say all problems in this book was MFC and her opinions
It’s safe to say I won’t continue the series

This is another book I received in my book box. I really enjoyed this book. It had me from the first page. I loved every aspect of this book along with the characters. I enjoyed seeing how protective he was. This book kept me hooked and I love when books do that, when they drag you in. I have never read a book by Ellouise Liston, but I am now a fan and can not wait to read the rest of the series. This one is a spicy one, so if you like spice, read this.

3,75 ⭐️ I really liked the book and the chemistry as well as the humor of the banter between Ava & Connor. Connor was so mature and kind despite the situation & lets not forget swoon-worthy. Had my trouble with Ava from time to time - and her behavior towards Connor.

I‘m excited for Mia & Riley’s story!

The idea was good the execution wasn’t great. The way the fmc communicated with the mmc was so childish, the weird and unnecessary miscommunication, the strange relationship with Vivian all of that plus an ending that felt way too rushed made it hard to find the motivation to finish reading.

I really enjoyed this book.

I really didn't expect that I would like this book as much as I have. I have it a 5 ⭐ rating because there was an introduction, a storyline, a climax and a proper ending. The story included character growth etc. I was not bored at all. I received this book as a signed copy from the author through my Reveal book monthly subscription and I am not disappointed at all. I would definitely recommend.
