I really enjoyed one of Deirdre Purcell's other books, Falling for a Dancer. Unfortunately every single one of her novels I've read since has had a similar plot. Tragedy and misery at every turn. If you have sex outside wedlock, you will get pregnant the first time. I liked this book well enough, but as usual it was a bit emotionally exhausting.

Actually the story was not something special but I guess reading it on the long vacation back then did make the story much more interesting :D
It's the ending that I hate.
Just like Rage of Angels, it's the kid who had to suffer. Blah.

Hmmm. I think I read this one too soon after Deidre' s Falling for a Dancer. Deirdre has a penchant for scandal and unwed mothers. This one was more like a soap opera and reminded me of Flowers in the Attic. Very convoluted. It was set in Ireland from 1953 - 1970. But other than the mention of the counties, it could have been anywhere. I haven't given up on Deirdre Purcel yet. I'll take a break and try again. But if it is more of the same, I give up.
