Erik O’Neill has finally stopped looking for trouble. Now, trouble’s come looking for him. After years of cage fighting, Erik is ready to step away from the Nova Club’s fight ring and into a new role – security for the club he calls home. All his plans change when a lovely loner starts visiting the club, and he finds himself caught between the need to safeguard his home and his friends, and his desire to protect the woman laying claim to his heart.
Chance is a cyborg with a secret. If the wrong people find her, she’ll lose her shot at having the life she dreams of – or any life at all. She’s come to the Drift looking for allies, but when she meets Erik, she discovers he can offer her more than safety. He’s her chance at happiness, too.
When time runs out, she’ll have to make a choice that will change her life forever - keep running, or turn to the one man her heart tells her she can trust.
Publishers Note: This story was previously released as part of the Loved In Space anthology. This edition has been revised and expanded.
Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.
Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

Read this last night once my migraine and headache faded. Very Susan Hayes (and I mean that in the best way: a zippy plot, scorch and sizzle, chosen-family-fighting-for-chosen-family, sci-fi with pew-pew-pew elements, and solid world building).
I am a big fan of the Drift series. This is a novella about Erik, one of the security guards at Nova. You find out a bit more about the Drift and plots. You get updates on characters from the previous books. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I love stories from The Drift! There’s a new girl in town! Erik O’Neill is keeping his eyes on this attractive woman. The woman, Chance, stays to herself, mostly. She has highly unusual abilities, and does her best to keep that a secret. This is an intriguing story. Both of them are private about many aspects of their lives. I love the interactions with familiar folks around the Nova Club. Hearing from them is welcome. They have a lot of fun at Erik’s expense, but he dishes it right back at them! Erik doesn’t hesitate when Chance is in trouble; he just heads out to protect her as best he can. A splendid romance, leaving me craving more of The Drift, and these people.
Taking a Chance The author did an amazing job with this addition to the Drift. I love how Chance is so innocent and yet so very very brave. I’m not sure I would be as brave should I have been in her situation. And Erik. Sigh. The perfect man, gorgeous and strong and all in once he claimed his lady. This is a fantastic read, fast paced with just the right mix of emotion and danger. I really enjoyed the drama and excitement. I can’t wait to see who finds their HEA next.
Chance wE freed from captivity and cruelty. She woke up on a foreign planet terrified of open sky and endless open spaces. Others acclimated but she could not. She escaped to The Drift and the Nova Club. Erik was formed IAF. He retired and was lost until the Cyborgs of Nova Club saved him. He meets Chance and their world's change for the good. Great, sweet story.
This was a good story about a different type of cyborg who is on the run, and the Nova Club employee who falls in love with her. The mystery is well done and suspenseful, and the romance is really sweet. Even though the hero is a fighter and bouncer, he has a truly gentle way with Chance, and I loved their romance and HEA!
Chance is a cyborg that lived her life in a lab. She can calculate the odds of anything. She sneaks off the planet that was meant to be a paradise and ends up at the Nova Club. There, she meets Erik who has been a cage fighter and security guy for years. It was great to see a romance with an older male and mental health representation. This series is great.
This is a story about a woman who shows up at the Nova Club about the same time a spy was sending photos of the Ciborgs, out of the Station. They will not let her hurt anyone. Unfortunately Erik knows she is not the one they are looking for and fights to prove it. Good read.
I knew this would be good but thought it might be lacking because there wasn't a MMF element. I needn't have worried. Chance and Erik are A-MAY-ZING! Love the individual stories as well as the whole arc. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Absolutely heartwarming story with her continuing this fantastic series!💖Her characters are absolutely going to have you wanting to see what happens ne xt for them and also cheering them on to get their own Hea!😍
Enjoyed this story, it’s what I call short but sweet..Sometimes I wonder about the possibilities of love at first sight but I found that yes a short time it’s possible to find that special one,
I'm a little short of time but I love it! It was fun to read & I'm sure I will reread it many times over. I opened it & kept reading until I had to put it down. I didn't want to because I wanted to know what happened next but I needed to get some sleep. I just can say it was really good.
I liked this story even though it was pretty short. The fact that there is a new one-of-a kind cyborg is interesting. Family connections are discovered. A spy is discovered. And the mysterious Gray Men remain behind much of Astek Station's issues.
Chance was a surprise from Haven, I enjoyed the story. The drift series keeps moving and letting us see glimpses into the characters' lives from the books before. Love the Cyn is having a baby. .lol
I absolutely love the Drift and this story was a little piece. Susan Hayes doesn’t disappoint. Cyborgs, aliens and, as always, love. Sometimes you just have to work a little harder for it...
