Sprung Like Spring #6

Wrong Effing Number

Rate this book
Sometimes, the breaking point is totally NOT what you thought.

Normal, everyday life for me basically looks a lot like me pretending not to notice how tall, dark and delicious my boss is. Working for Dr. Cole Foster is easy and fun, and even Arsyn, the ever-randy mastiff who is an escape artist and seems to find me irresistible, isn't enough to make me hate working as Cole's number one vet tech at his clinic. Going on a conference trip out of town to listen to drug reps talk about flea dip and special diet dog food doesn't sound like the trip of dreams, but what if my dumb butt spices things up by sending a dirty text about my boss and the things I want to do to him… to my boss by mistake when I was actually trying to send it to my sister? This is how horror movies and romcoms start, right?

I'll admit it, I'm a horrible, terrible person who is rejoicing in the fact that my gorgeous vet tech, Riley Hester, is going to have to share a room with me at the vet conference. What I plan on doing with him now that I have him where I want him, I have no idea, but a wrong number text might be just the incentive I need to start something I probably have no business starting with an employee. Things get out of hand fast, and before I know it, the small window of time allotted to us by being out of town, away from the clinic isn't enough. I need more. The problem is, when the party's over, will we be able to go back to just being boss and employee?

Wrong Effing Number is book six in my lighthearted, Omegaverse Sprung Like Spring novella series. These books can be read as stand-alones but getting to know the overlapping characters will make it worth reading in order. There will be fluff, humor and probably some pining, so sit back, relax and take a break from the horrors of reality!

Cole and Riley!

This story was another romance that had me laughing out loud. Riley's antics and Cole's reactions were the best. They balanced each other so well an the introduction of Cole's family was priceless. I cannot say enough good things about this series and cannot wait for the next book!

I hate myself.

I'm a completionist, which means that if I liked the first part of a series I will see it through to the bitter end. For the most part, I've overlooked the irritatingly excessive absurd or cringe content, grammar issues and overall rushed pace of the books to find things readable. I didn't really hate any of them except the third installment. This one started out with an incident that could have been funny or cute if it hadn't gone on for so flipping long and Riley was clearly going to be another over-the-top top an annoying to degree character, but Cole seemed ok and Fisher saved the last story, so I read on. Until the "game" of chicken. Are these books being written by a teenager? Oh, right, calling it "f**k chicken" makes it adult and sexy, I guess. Except it doesn't. The author drew it out as long as a staring contest between toddlers and I think the toddlers' game would have been more entertaining. Any hope I had for Cole being an acceptable counterbalance to Riley's ridiculousness was gone and I just thumbed through the rest. Cliche sex scenes, requisite cameos from Riley's family on top of an absurd intro to Cole's family and the end. But not of the series. No. There's another one. And I will read it because I am stupid like that, but the one good thing about this is now I know not to read another series by this author. Because they are prolific and I'm so glad that I didn't get into their Chosen series with like 30 books. Seriously, please, put some more focus on quality over quantity because there's potential here but stop and ask yourself Why when you're writing some of this supposed humor and remind yourself that your target audience is supposedly/hopefully over the age of consent. Cut down on the juvenile antics!

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

Even though this covered well over two months of Cole and Riley's life... it felt more like a "day in the life" for me... grrr

Don't get me wrong... it is cute, like cotton candy fluff, cute... which I love! BUT it was short on details and big on jumping around... which I DON'T like... grrr

Overall, it was a cute, short read that made me smile, so I guess I need to quite complaining! *grin*

So this is how the Fosters became part of the Hester Walden Feltons. Cole and Riley are adorable. Riley is in love with his vet boss and accidently texts him with what he'd like to do with him. Cole is onboard with that and during a conference in Aspen, they play a game of chicken and end up in bed together. This is Light's take on falling for the boss/ one bed in a booked hotel trope. She does it well.
Very flirty. The dialog is quirky. Fun read.

Hilarious!

I thought my daughter had a potty mouth, she doesn't have anything on Riley and Cole was able to keep up with his line of thinking. I enjoyed this book, fluff and all and didn't put it down until I completed it. Riley definitely doesn't know how to keep his thoughts to himself.

I know I’ve said this about every book in this series but, it needs to be said again: this book was hilarious! Also, I can’t believe they put that dog on the cover! I’m dying.

Ohmygosh I just realized the next series Salacious Summer must be all of Cole’s brothers! Also, it’s kinda weird with everyone getting pregnant practically at the same time.

Aspen!!!

This is one of the funniest books of this series of had some moments of me snorting my tea, and the euphemism of Aspen was quite amusing, this was simply the fluffiest of reads.

This was a blast to read!!

I spent so much time while reading this smiling and laughing. Cole and his family will fit right in. And we got to see Casey again. That one is going to make sure all his cousins keep up the family tradition.

Riley trying to delete the incriminating text before Cole sees it turns slapdash and I admit, I laughed out loud at that scene.

This was funny and cute. I liked Riley and Cole. I also liked the dog at the beginning that wouldn't stop having a lot of fun with Riley.

Riley has a problem he's got a huge crush on his boss. Bigger problem he sends said boss a text that he thinks he sending to his sister. Wrong wrong wrong. He actually freaks out and what he does if he hadn't gotten slightly hurt would have been down right funny. Though once I knew he was okay I did laugh.

They play a game that's basically gay chicken, but for sex instead. Ever who caves first and begs the other for sex they lose. Well they both lost because kissed at the same time.

They had been at a conference at the time and when they get back they still want each other. They try and make it seem like they talking about something else, but they aren't fooling anyone. Cole's dad actually plans their wedding the first time that Riley meets them at a dinner he didn't know he was. It was hilarious because one of Cole's brother's picked him up fireman style to bring him back when he ran out.

I enjoyed it and only have two left in this series which is kinda sad, but there is a sequel series at least.

Merger of two crazy and lovable families. I love it. The fluff-factor isn't as strong in this one but it is still sweet. Riley also reminds me a little of mellower version of Mark (Coles da). I don't know why but I sadly didn't connect as much with Coles character. Maybe because Riley was such a presence 🤔

"Riley: We happen to have a tiny gathering coming up on the fourth. It'll be a great time to meet them."
I didn't even feel the least bit bad about lying to him since he'd apparently decided to ambush me with his family.
"See," he groaned, pressing his forehead to mine. "You forget that I overhear you and Sara all the time. I know that the tiny little thing you have coming up on the fourth is actually your entire family."
"I don't know that my entire family will be there."
My entire family was going to be there.
He smirked, shaking his head. "Yes, you do. You told me yourself that hardly anyone ever misses when you guys have these little reunions." "
