Sam Wyatt goes to a cabin in Hallbrook each year at Christmas looking for solitude with the memories of his wife and daughter, who he lost in a car accident a few years ago. Except not long after he arrives, Megan Langley and her daughter take up residence and refuse to leave. A quick call to the rental agent and Sam finds out the cabin has been double booked and he's kicked out to the snowy cold. But when an avalanche closes Tinsel Pass, he’s forced to return to the cabin.
Megan was supposed to spend this Christmas celebrating and honoring her mother at her favorite place this year. When one night housing Sam turns into more, Megan and Becca are resolved to get their Christmas spirit back. They keep Sam busy, giving him zero chance of finding the solitude he craves, especially when a stray dog comes around and Becca’s determined to help the mutt.
When the pass reopens, Sam is torn emotionally between the past and present. Can a little Christmas magic save him from making the wrong decision?
Elsie Davis is a USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR of over 25 novels. She writes sweet, clean & wholesome contemporary romance and is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writer's association. At the age of twelve, Elsie discovered the world of Happily-Ever-After romance when she began avidly reading Barbara Cartland, the Queen of Romance, and has been hooked ever since. After building her dream log home on top of a small mountain, she turned her attention to do what she loves most...writing. Three daughters, five grandchildren, and her own hero husband, keep her extremely busy. When Elsie's not glued to the keyboard, she loves boating, birding, camping, fishing, wildlife, disc golf and nature walks. Basically, all things outdoors, EXCEPT cold weather. Her and her husband love Caribbean cruises, but Elsie’s favorite vacation was their cruise to Alaska. (In spite of the cold!) Indoors, she enjoys a toasty fire, a glass of red wine, and of course, a great romance (Hallmark-Style) with a guaranteed Happily-Ever-After.
Love & Peace by Elsie Davis is the third tale in Holidays in Hallbrook series. Megan Langley along with her daughter, Becca are heading to cabin in Hallbrook that was her mother’s favorite place. Megan has had a hard time since her mother passed away recently and her sister suggested they spend Christmas at the cabin her mother loved. Megan and Becca arrive to find a car in the driveway. She assumes that her sister, Rachael arrived ahead of them. Instead, they find Sam Wyatt occupying the cabin. Sam is looking to spend Christmas alone with the memories of his deceased wife and daughter. He lost them two years ago in an accident for which he feels responsible. It turns out that Megan has rights to the cabin, but an avalanche has Sam stranded until Tinsel Pass can be reopened. Sam soon finds himself immersed in Christmas preparations and spending time with Becca who looks remarkably like his deceased little girl. Can Megan and Becca along with a stray pup help Sam regain his zest for life and his Christmas spirit? Love & Peace is a charming novel. It is a well-written story that moves along at a steady pace. There are friendly characters with the highlight being seven year old, Becca. She is a precocious charmer. There were times when I wanted to give Sam a good swift nudge so he would quit dwelling in the past. I enjoyed the holiday preparations and how the neighbors helped each other out. There is humor throughout the novel that had me laughing and I like the author’s engaging writing style with her realistic dialogue. I have enjoyed reading each book in the Holidays in Hallbrook series. Love & Peace is a heartwarming story that was a pleasure to read.
This is a lovely story, with 2 people who have lost loved ones, still trying to overcome their grief. Mix in a couple of snowstorms, a cute little girl, a stray dog. Due to a mix up, Sam and Megan arrive at the same cabin 5 minutes apart. When Sam leaves because his reservation was cancelled, his departure is put on hold due to an avalanche. This sweet tale brought tears to my eyes at times and made me laugh at other times. I want to read the rest of the series now.
Love & Peace Holidays in Hallbrook, Book 3 By: Elsie Davis Narrated by: Rachel Butler, Lydia Butler, Liam Butler
Sam just wanted some time. Coming back every year since the death of his wife and daughter helps add to his guilt and he has no better way to spend his Christmas. But when he arrives at the cabin, he finds it's occupied! Megan brought her daughter Becca to the cabin, waiting on her sister to arrive and they will be enjoying a Christmas in honor of her mother. But this overbooking throws a wrench into her plans. But Sam opts to leave, only to find the snow is preventing him from going. And our story begins. Two broken people, an adorable little girl, a stray dog and a community of lovely people bring the spirit of Christmas and family together in this warm, loving story. The characters are realistic, the message clear and it's the kind of book that warms my heart. I loved it!
Rachel Butler continues her fabulous narration of the series. I enjoy her voices, and she truly understands her characters as she brings them to life. Just the right amount of emotion to make my heart wrench or sing, it's a pleasure to hear her performance. The kids are amazing, spot on and a joy added throughout the story. Once again, a wonderful listen.
I listened to the audiobook of this book. Love the narrator and her children. Loving this series. Sam has always come back to the cabin in Hallbrook, to feel closer to his wife and daughter at Christmas. They died in a car accident and he wants the good memories to remain. Megan and her daughter, plus her sister rented the cabin to celebrate Christmas in memory of their mother. Problem is it's the same cabin and the same week. A quick call to the realtor and yes they are sorry, but it was double booked. Sam agrees to leave, but has to turn around, when an avalanche blocks the road. On the other side of the avalanche is Megan's sister. Everyone is okay but it's going to take some time to clean it up. Can the Christmas spirit work its magic on all of them. Delightful! I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author for an honest review.
Megan wanted to create a Christmas with her sister that would honor her mother's memory for Megan's daughter. Sam wanted a quiet Christmas alone to mourn his losses. A snow storm, and a reservation mix-up changed everyone's plans. I enjoyed this book but it was a little slow moving for me. Still I would recommend it for someone who wants an easy, clean read.
The narration was okay. The narrator's voice just was not as smooth as I like. The performance of children's was very good.
I requested this audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Such a sweet story of self forgiveness, letting go of the past and moving forward. The author had a fun way of bringing these three people who clearly needed each other together. Along with a sweet and clean love story, she mixes in a little suspense as well. This was an all around good listen.
The narrators did a good job.
I received a free audio copy of this from the author a d am voluntarily leaving this review.
Another cute story! This one was my favorite so far until the scene of the pass clearing. First there's Mother Nature getting a lot of credit then talk of miracles and pearly gates. It's so frustrating in a world where true faith is hard to come by, partly because of conservations like this mixing fact and fiction. Giving credit to ideas instead of the Creator. I know this isn't a Christian story, but this is very off putting to me. Choose one. Don't do Jesus PLUS anything else. It's Jesus or it's not. The kid's voices again stole the show, but I felt the adult narrator has grown quite a bit since the last two books!
You meet a stranger, you allow him alone to watch your young daughter the FIRST day you meet him. Then, the next day he asks to take your kid to ride around checking on neighbors and you have no problem with it? Wow. Talk about a complete lack of control for such a controlling character. And side note, if someone made decisions regarding where I would live and work without even talking to me first? We would have a problem.
This was a wonderful story of how 2 people had rented the same cabin on this mountain to try and healing the lost in their lives. A snow stormed trapped them in together. After much lonely hearts, they saw the cared very much for each other. Will have to read the book. Very hard to put down.
I could hardly put this book down to do things around my home that needed to be done. It was filled with what I always enjoy—a strong H & responsible h, a child, an older couple with a positive influence, a tense moment or two, and…a dog. It was a clean story with a good pace.
This book was off the charts. The story was fantastic & well written.Megan & Sam drew you into the story & made you feel like you were living it. It was a beautiful story with love, sadness & drama. You won't be able to put it down until the end.
Cabin that turned up to be doubled booked. With memories of Christmas past, and the loved ones now gone. For peace and quiet, or to regain a Christmas spirit, a delightful story.
Fantastic book that talks about moving on and forgiving yourself, I loved it. Megan never gave up even when he pushed her away and Sam was so much stronger than he thought
This is a sweet holiday romance. There is heartbreak and loss that Sam and Megan have each experienced, after being stuck in a cabin together they find happiness.
This book is the third story in the collection of Holidays in Hallbrook. All of the stories center around the town of Hallbrook so all the characters appear throughout the collection.
This story centers around Christmas at a cabin in the mountains outside of Hallbrook. The cabin has been double-booked by two sets of grieving people. One is a widower whose wife and child died in an accident while their family was staying at this cabin for Christmas a few years previous. The other is a widow and her little girl who are renting it because the grandmother loved this particular cabin, and they want to honor her recent death by spending Christmas where she was so happy. Throw into this an avalanche that closes the pass, the only way out!
The author brings this story to life as Sam battles wanting to be left alone and the opposite - his growing attraction for Megan. The reader can't be sure of the outcome until the very end!
Love & Peace is a lovely, sweet, holiday romance. Although it is part of a series it can also be read as a perfect stand-alone with a HEA. This is a beautifully written book with great characters. Sam and Megan have to deal not only with their present situation but also past regrets and angst. Becca is an absolute joy and very entertaining. The neighbours are also well rounded characters that add depth to the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to all fans of sweet romance and holiday romance books.
A wonderful Christmas story about two different people dealing with loss the best that they can but learning along the way that many things can and will help your heart heal when you least expect it. A lodging mixup, terrible snowstorm and a child can be a powerful force in learning to heal and finding a way to love again. This story will make you feel a part of their lives and part of the town, will make you cry for the pain they are dealing with and will make you smile as they learn to heal and love again. Get your copy today and enjoy the miracles of Christmas.
There are a lot of big emotions in this book and most of them will have you reaching for the tissues. It’s a story about love, loss, atonement, and a hope for a better tomorrow all wrapped up in the magic of the holiday season. My heart broke for Sam, Megan, and Becca over all the grief they were dealing with. I loved watching them come together as an actual family unit in the end, helped along by all the very special residents of this small town. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher as part of the boxed set.
