Retired Captain Nathan Bridger is induced to take command of the "seaQuest," the most advanced submarine in existence in 2018, as she seeks a renegade submarine commanded by the previous captain

Loved this book it was good to read the novelization of the pilot episode as I am rewatching season 1 on DVD it was good to see some scenes that weren't in the finished episode
Very good adaptation of the pilot movie co-written by a veteran Star Trek novel author. Making the book more interesting is the look into the thoughts and motivations of Captain Bridger, whose deaths of his son and wife make him reluctant to take control of the SeaQuest, even though he is the most qualified man for the job. There is a great scene retold superbly in the book about him agonizing over sending his last friend, the dolphin Darwin, on a potentially suicidal mission.
Recommended as a good action SF book even if one doesn't remember the classic tv series.
A decent novelization of the pilot episode of seaQuest DSV. There's a few important scenes missing, notably when Bridger arrives at the seaQuest and meets the crew the first time. It almost felt like a few pages were missing, but that's just the way it was written. A bit disappointing for that, but otherwise it was pretty faithful. Good book, good TV show.
I wanted to get some ideas to run Blue Planet RPG session, and I just remembered this TV show from when I was really wee. I have since watched half of the pilot (from with this story is derived) and I couldn't because the book is superior. It is a short read, maybe longer than it would be because it does feel like it is setting up the TV show's, but it is competent, tells a good story, has enough of a plot upset that makes it not be entirely linear and boringly predictable. And that's pretty much it. A fun setting and concept, that could be better if there was more space for a more ambitious novel to come to be. As its own product, 6/10 As a novelization, that improves on the pilot: 8/10
I loved this show as a kid! I never knew there were books until I came across them in a thrift store a couple months ago.
This particular book was a retelling of the pilot episode. It was interesting getting close 3rd person POV on the characters from both sides of the fight.
The book wasn't the most amazing work of fiction, but I still enjoyed it, I think mostly b/c I'm a sucker for SeaQuest. I'll be reading the other 2 books in the future.
I highly recommend this for any other millennials who loved to watch SeaQuest in the 90s.
It's been quite a while since I had watched the show, so this re-telling of the pilot episode was a good read as some of the details from the series had gone a bit fuzzy from age. I thought the authors fleshed out the characters quite well (human and dolphin alike), and the tension-filled plot kept things moving right along.
Several names and details were different from the show. It seemed like it was poorly edited, as we saw scenes with characters that hadn't been introduced to us (our first glimpse of Lucas is something like, "Lucas was now wearing a jacket over his flannel shirt"). Anyone who hadn't already seen the show would be confused.
It has been so long since I've seen SeaQuest i'm not sure if this is an adaptation or an original story. Either way it's a fun adventure, more fun than my faint memories of the show. I'd recommend it for a quick read.
I read this book after watching the first season of the television show. There are some differences between the book and the series premiere, but I feel the book is a lot better. The reader will learn much more about the characters.
Seaquest was and still is one of my favorite shows. I still random marathons. It still holds up. This book was great and I wish they had continued the series.
This is a well done novelization of the two part opening to SeaQuest DSV. The novel fills in some of the backstory of the characters, and adds a lot more depth to present day events within the story.
