Love Again #4

Lauren from Last Night

Rate this book
What if Prince Charming had used a mass-email to find his princess?

Inspired by a true story.

When Sam meets fellow Terry Fox University student Lauren in an off-campus basement bar, sparks fly, but when he tries her number the next day, he learns she's given him the wrong digits. Instead of feeling slighted, he has faith it's an honest mistake, and worries she'll think he's "that guy" if he doesn't call. Without her last name or residence floor, he tries the university's email system, and mass-emails all 246 women named Lauren in hopes of finding the right one.

The women bond in same-name solidarity, forming a Facebook group called Lauren from Last Night. When the story goes viral, the women promise to protect Lauren from "stalkerish" Sam, but they might be keeping her from the love of her life.

"The Laurens" aren't the only obstacles in love's way. Sam and Lauren are both trying to escape their heartbreaking, tragic past. Is love strong enough to lift us from the pain and prejudices that weigh us down?

Picture this: an eight-year-old freckle-faced blonde girl, perched in a rickety treehouse, surrounded by a fortress of Archie comics and armed with a bag of Jujubes. That's where the writing bug bit me, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride ever since.

Fast forward to my drama class days, where I ran lines with none other than a young Matthew Perry—yes, Chandler Bing himself. Could I be any luckier?

But wait, there's more! I even auditioned for a musical alongside Alanis Morissette, the powerhouse behind "You Oughta Know." Spoiler alert: She got the gig. Apparently, the universe decided my destiny was more "pen to paper" than "jazz hands on stage."

That path led me to Queen’s University and Concordia for Journalism, 24 published books, reaching over 400K readers worldwide, and one novel (The Ticket) that was optioned for film—and is now available again, ready for its next big adventure on screen.

I’ve also survived cruel 1-star reviews (with only minor emotional scarring), raised a kind kid who likes me (most days), and lived with another human for 27 years without turning us into characters in 911: Montreal.

But let’s be real. What matters most here is what I can offer you. That’s simple: I’m here to be your literary escape hatch from the daily grind. When Netflix has betrayed you with its "Are you still watching?" judgment, and your phone is just one scroll away from being practically grafted to your fingers, that’s where my books come in.

My mission is to make you laugh so hard you snort, cry just enough to release that pent-up emotion from your awkward ex-partner encounter at the corner store, and love the story so much you can’t help but text your bestie at 2 AM saying, “OMG, you have to read this!”

Whether you're into my romcoms, time-travel romances, screenplays, or poetry that's "for people who don’t think they like poetry" (their words, not mine), welcome to my world of words.

Oh—and if you prefer listening to your love stories while folding laundry, dodging traffic, or pretending to work out, my books are also available in audiobook format from Tantor Audio, a division of Recorded Books.

Fun fact: I’m a tenth cousin of Emily Dickinson. So yes, the em dashes are ancestral flair—and the poetry obsession might be too.

You can find me on Instagram, Threads, or my Facebook Author Page, where I'm probably inline skating, dancing with oven mittens, or trying to convince one of my cats to do my marketing for me. Drop by and say hi! Just don’t ask me to audition for anything. Unless it’s for “woman juggling dinner, a manuscript, and a strawberry yogurt face mask”—I’ve got that one nailed.

Eeeee?

No i ten krotki a'la romansik z doktorem Jakem - cringe na maxa.

This is such a cute story!

Lauren Green decided to move to Edwin Cove, Ontario, Canada as an exchange student. Waiting for her roommate at a bar, she meets Samuel Sanchez, who was stood up by his date. They have a wonderful and somewhat eventful night. When he drops Lauren and her roommate off, he asks for Lauren's phone number.

When Sam sends a text, the response back isn't what he was hoping for because it's obviously a wrong number. Thinking he typed in her number wrong, he thinks of how to reach Lauren because he doesn't know her last name. Sam goes through the University email system for all Lauren's and accidentally sends a mass email to 241 women named Lauren!

The real Lauren finds out from her roommate, and they rope her into going to a group meeting where a bunch of Laurens are meeting up. It is here, that one Lauren convinces the real Lauren to use the group to speak to Sam with the idea that it's safer for her. Are the other Laurens looking out for the real Lauren, or are they creating a roadblock?

Such a fun story! Both protagonists have wounds from the past. I, especially loved how the author incorporated stereotypes about a specific group, that started with a tragedy in Sam's background, and how Sam's mother learned to break through her biases. Wonderful, heartwarming story!

I received an ARC and I have voluntarily reviewed this book!

Guy meets girl, girl gives guy her number. Girl (accidentally) gives wrong digits.  Guy start searching for girl. The guy, Sam starts searching for the girl, Lauren.  Sam emails every Lauren in the email database at college, all 246 Laurens, in an effort to find the Lauren from last night. This simple yet grandiose act blows up and goes viral overnight and what follows is achingly sweet and laugh out loud funny. The Laurens form a bond of sorts, form a FB group , and vow to protect Lauren from Sams "Stalkerish" behavior but really they just stand in the way. Other obstacles from both Sam and Laurens past as well as current day events all work to keeping Sam and Lauren apart. Will they get their happily ever after?  This would be a  perfect YA read and sweet story for all adult readers. I love the brit slang and that this book  was based on a true story. This book was "bangin"

Lauren From Last Night by Heather Grace Stewart
This is a great book!! Very easy to read! It touches on a lot of subjects that are pertinent right now. . How far would you go to get in touch with someone you only met once? By putting it out on social media, when does it become an invasion of privacy? How long do you mourn a loss? Is it right to blame an entire population for the actions of one? Do you believe in love at first sight? Can love be found in this mess we call life?
Meet Lauren and Sam. Ride along on this adventure to love. You won’t be disappointed.

This is not my usual genre to read, but I thoroughly enjoyed this short contemporary novel. I am Canadian and there were several parts of the story and the locations that evoked all kinds of emotions, some happy, some sad. It is a love story but also much more, and critically for me it is also funny and heartwarming. A great read for these challenging times.

I loved the premise of this novel. Sam emails almost 250 women named “Lauren” across the university campus because he took down her number incorrectly after an eventful first encounter. The themes were contemporary and nailed society’s infatuation with viral stories and social media in general. Granted, it’s not a genre that I would normally read (young adult) but it was a fun, fast read with lots of laughs and some big feels as well. At first I thought it was a little scattered in parts and went off on too many tangents, but then I reminded myself the main characters are in their early 20s, whereas I’m comfortably ensconced in my mid 40s and I suddenly remembered with abject horror that my own life was a bit less predictable in my 20s. I think this shows how Stewart really tapped into the characters’ ages and presented them in all their messy youthful glory. It was a delightful escape.

Lauren From Last Night was another 5 star read. I was pleasantly surprised by the unpredictable turns and revelations. I foresaw a lighthearted meet-cute tale, but there was a beautiful depth to this story that I really enjoyed as well.

One night by chance, Lauren, an exchange student in Canada met Sam, an immigrant medical student and their lives started a new course. Younger than the characters in the previous books, their journey was no less significant or relevant. At the core of these stories is the desire to be loved and have a true, lasting connection despite whatever circumstances arise. I appreciate that in the Love Again series, there is no shying away from challenging struggles. These books present realistic explorations of the emotions involved and the impact of such issues while still leading to a satisfaction guaranteed ending.

I was happy to see the inclusion of Lauren's brother, Hank, who was in the previous book, Good Nights. I liked him since he met Hannah, so it was nice to see the loving relationship with his sister in this book and mention of his new family.

Thanks to the author for allowing me to read this wonderful story for free.

This review was voluntary and not affected by the gifting of this book.

This is a funny and heartwarming story that highlights the pitfalls of our electronic world but also how it can be used to find that special someone.

Sam and British exchange student Lauren meet at a bar and there’s an immediate mutual attraction. When Sam realizes Lauren has given him the wrong number, he chooses to believe it’s a mistake rather than a deliberate action. To find Lauren, he emails every female in the college directory with the name. Of course, to some of them, it came across as stalkerish and a group is formed to discuss the event. They soon band together to protect the real Lauren from a possible creep and his unwanted attention. There’s a risk, however, they might be a little too zealous in their endeavor.
When Lauren and Sam finally meet again, the attraction is still there and they start finding their way through a budding relationship. Things take a difficult turn, however, and what started out as a sweet boy-meets-girl love story is soon dented by family demands, tragedies and misunderstandings. Will they find their way back to each other? I guess you have to read it to find out.

This is not insta-love, or a ‘I’m going to marry you’ kind of story. It’s two young people meeting and wanting to get to know one another, where circumstances act against them, and their willingness to overcome them.
The author doesn’t shy away from making a some political references, and I like how she portrayed a previous boyfriend of Lauren’s who was now transitioning to become a woman. With no experience in the matter, it felt real and sensitively written. Instead of expressing feelings of hurt and rejection, there was a heartfelt attempt to forge a new and different relationship as friends, despite the obvious challenges for both Lauren and her ex.

I think my only, very minor, issue with the book was the occasional slang by Lauren who’s supposed to come from Coventry. London slang was used which is unlikely to have been part of the vocabulary of someone from the English West Midlands. It’s a very minor detail, however, which you wouldn’t notice unless you were British, or live there, and it in no way affects my rating or review.

This is a coming of age novel that was very entertaining, especially since I can hardly remember coming of age. But some things never change, and this brought me back to a time when relationships were certainly a lot simpler without social media to send things spinning out of control. That’s what happens in this whimsical tale of a medical student and a young exchange student from England, who meet in a bar, and nothing is the same again.
This is about love at first sight, a wrong cell phone number, a frantic attempt to reconnect and the perils of social media.
Heather Grace Stewart creates a charming and interesting and likable cast of characters, as Lauren and Sam try to regain the magic of their initial encounter, only to be foiled by the jealousy of others. She’s a very good story teller and it was evident in this effort.
My thanks to #HeatherGraceStewart #DreamscapeMedia for the ARC It put a smile on my face throughout.

Started slow for me but, wow!

I received an ARC, but liked it enough to download and read again.
It started a bit slow, or maybe I’ve been away from college too long. But I did remember the feeling of wanting to be in the library rather than a bar.
It took awhile to get into it. I was shaking my head over some of the college antics.
I liked how she introduced and melded different cultures, it didn’t feel forced.
Several twists and turns occur, some because of evil people and some due to silliness.
I was happily surprised to see a recipe for samosas at the end.

A Wonderful Story!

I’ve added this author to my list of favorite authors after reading this book and a previous book, The Ticket!

Generally I shy away from “New Adult” books since I’m an “Old Adult”, but the premise of this book was intriguing. And it didn’t disappoint!

Although I love stories with a HEA, I also love when they delve into deeper issues such as the darker side of social media, peer pressure, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and sexual assault. This story mixes all those elements and still manages to make the reader feel good by the end of the book.

Basically its about a guy got stood up at the bar and met this “so out of place gal” in that same bar. They hit it off, so guy ask gal’s number and gal accidentally gave the wrong num. Guy desperately want to find her, end up making a social-media frenzy and the rest....you’ll just have to buy and read the book. This is my first Medical-romance book that i have read and i kindly like it. It is Sweet and Heart warming indeed.

This is a story of how NOT to find the girl you are attracted to! When Sam meets Lauren he wants to
get to know her better but inadvertently she gives him a phone number which wasn’t her own. Thus the stage is set for what begins as a fun prank on both Sam and Lauren with a blitz of social media and mass media picking up the story but escalates as Lauren is attacked and injured. Against her better judgement she believes what she is told and accuses Sam of being behind all this media craze. Later she comes to
her senses and they get together again but have another serious encounter to work through before they can believe this crazy mess can finally be put to rest!

They say true love never runs smooth and that is certainly the case with Sam and Lauren! It just goes to show that you shouldn’t believe everything you hear and should go to the source and if you believe that person then don’t let others influence you differently!

I enjoyed this rocky happily ever after and recommend it as one I believe everyone will enjoy.
The dating game is a game full of pitfalls so one must
tread carefully and be aware that others just may be jealous of the happiness you’ve found and will want to change it for their own purposes.

Lauren from Last Night: The Heartwarming Smalltown Holiday Romantic Comedy (Love Again Series Book 3) , my third highly-enjoyable read from author Heather Grace Stewart, the third in her Love Again series. I've been adding her books to my library since January of 2017 yet never getting one read until these three, I now own 8 of them. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. Her captivating style of switching between first person woman to first person man works! The author reached out after reading my my two reviews and told me "don’t read Lucky, which is number four, before you read Lauren from Last Night"' So I took the experts advice and did so. I look forward to reading more from this author with Lucky: The Perfect Small Town, Christmas Romantic Comedy (Love Again Series Book 4) just added to my TBR list. I just finished reading/listening to Lauren from Last Night! It was sooo good! Even though I am a psychological thriller junkie, I really enjoyed the story of Lauren and Sam. It was a nice break from the dark themes from my usual books. I love the inclusion of today's social topics! I enjoyed the sense of humour and I was pleasantly surprised as well when I heard the narrator's British accent. Looking forward to the sequels in this series 🤗

Such a sweet romance novel. It's not without it's conflicts though. And I did find myself choking up a couple of times.

This story reflects society today with multiculturism, racism, terrorism, and the negative aspects of the internet that can create emotional and physical damage. The story took place in the Toronto area, which is dear to my heart, and very true to form.

This was also a very easy read.

Thank you to Heather Grace Stewart for providing me with an early copy of this book.

Lauren heads out with her roommate to a bar one night. While her roommate is off drinking with the bartender, Lauren meets Sam. They connect and sparks fly! Sam helps Lauren bring her roommate back to the dorm and she gives him her number, but it ends up being the wrong one. Sam felt the connection and wants to get to know her better, but how does he go about finding her? His dad suggests sending a mass email to everyone named Lauren at the school, 246 of them! After some persuasion from her roommate and her posse, Lauren decides to meet up with the other Lauren’s. They create a pact to keep Lauren from “stalkerish Sam”, but is that keeping Sam and Lauren from finding their true love?

This was a fun book while also having a bit of suspense, which was something new for me from Heather Grace Stewart. I loved Sams character. He seemed like such a good guy and comes from a great family. He’s studying to become a doctor, and I can totally see him in the role. Lauren was a fun character, but I didn’t connect with her as much as I did with Sam. The curses she throws out are hilarious though and unique.

One thing that I wasn’t a huge fan of was the politics and feminism in the book. I’m not a political person, and while I believe feminism is good, I prefer to not read about it in books. I read romance to escape whats currently going on and not to have to think deeply. I do think it’s interesting that this was based on a true story. I definitely have to check that out!

All in all, if you’re looking for a quick, fun, happy ever after, check this book out!

Heather Grace Stewart has taken the major elements of a true story and transformed them into a truly delightful work of fiction. This galloping and engrossing novel grabs your emotions by the collar and simply doesn't let go until you're bursting with pleasure, appreciation, and samosas! It sensitively takes on contemporary issues such as social media virality, cyberbullying, xenophobia, mental illness, and sexual trauma without ever becoming preachy or overbearing. It's packed with cultural references with Indian, Caribbean, and European roots, set in a university town that feels oddly familiar and peppered with laugh-out-loud situational humour -- your guffaws will be the only pauses in your ravenous consumption of this book! Expertly paced to keep you turning the pages and heartwarmingly Canadian to its core, Lauren from Last Night is a triumph of the human spirit and an allegory for what can happen when we allow our better angels to rule us in the face of terror and fear.

A 3.5 stars read for me. Lauren is an English girl living temporarily in Canada. Sam is a handsome resident who is looking for the love of his life. An encounter between Lauren and Max sets off a series of reactions when Max decides to track down Lauren after receiving a wrong phone number. It may seem that he has been successful but some unusual events occur, becoming quite unpleasant and dangerous. Does Sam finally get the girl? Can they overcome the difficulties? All in all the book is a nice read and the characters are quite naive that is they are unaware of the danger surrounding them.

I found this to be a entertaining read, its a book about falling in love. Although I am much older I found this to be a good read, it dealt with several issues that are prevelant in todays society. It shows lots of cultural references surrounding the different characters in the storyline. At times the book is funny, and at times it has a more serious overtone. I would recommend it to others, but I do feel it is a book a younger crowd would enjoy more so than a older crowd.

I enjoyed the original writing style of this author. The story involves a modern day couple navigating the complexities of the real world. It's kismet from the beginning but they get caught up in the tangled web of social media. There is love, loss, tragedy, differences, and acceptance. Whether those differences are religious or sexual orientation, love of the soul is what wins out in the end even if situations are imperfect. I highly recommend giving this author a read.

This is not your typical romance book. It deals with some very serious topics, such as prejudice, cyberbullying, assault, and stalking, with tremendous thought and insight. I was pleasantly surprised by the twists in the story. A real page turner.

Sorry but this just isn't for me. When I downloaded it, I didn't spot that it was number 4 in a series, though it states in the blurb that that doesn't matter so I carried on. However, it is definitely written by or for a much younger audience than I am in my 50s !!
I rechecked the Amazon categories and it seems I'm right, as it is high up in the teen and young adult category, and also in the new adult romance category, whatever the hell that is !!
I got to page 22 and needed to call it a day when there is vomit on a bloke's shoes.....no, thanks !! I've never been that drunk or out of control and just don't think it's amusing in any fashion. I'd no idea what beer bong, chirpsing was or bare jokes, either. However, upon flicking to the end I see there's a glossary of London slang. Not too helpful at the END, is it ?? And I'm FROM London but don't know anyone who speaks like that.
At one point Sam was stroking his stubble beard, which I would think was meant as beard stubble but that was it for mistakes so I give it an extra star on this basis.
It just isn't for me at my clearly advanced age, I'm afraid.

This was a sweet, heartfelt read with a refreshingly original premise. The idea of Sam mass emailing hundreds of women named Lauren sounds quirky and funny, but the story quickly reveals real emotional depth beneath the charm. Sam and Lauren feel genuine and vulnerable, each carrying past pain that shapes their choices in believable ways.

What really stood out was how the book balances humor, romance, and healing. The “Lauren from Last Night” group adds warmth and community while also highlighting how assumptions and fear can complicate love. Inspired by a true story, this novel feels hopeful, sincere, and surprisingly moving. A lovely reminder that sometimes love finds you in the most unexpected ways.

So I was attracted to this by the blurb. I liked the idea of Sam trying to find Lauren. But it all played out too quickly. I liked Sam as a H, he's sweet. I liked Lauren too, even though she's kind of a jumbled mess of a character. Everyone else in this story is hateful and the worst. And then the story deviates so far from the whole meet-cute idea of Sam bumbling through his attempt to find his Lauren from Last night ... that this really wasn't what I had hoped it would be. It was fine. And there are plenty of people who liked this based on all the positive reviews ... but I am just not the reader for this story.
