Wynn Hockey #5

Game Changer

Rate this book
Jackson Wynn
I don’t want anything to do with my crazy family’s drama, which I’ve been watching unfold from a distance over the last year, but now my grandfather has Alzheimer’s and I feel I need to at least make a quick visit to see him. My hockey season’s over, all I have to do is get through my teammate Steve’s wedding, and then I’m on a plane to Los Angeles to do my family duty. After that, I’ll head home to Manitoba for some summer R&R at the family lake cottage.

Molly Flynn
Nobody’s expecting what happens at my wedding, which becomes pandemonium. I need to get out of there. Fast. Who do I turn to? Jackson Wynn, one my fiancé’s teammates. He’s been a friend to me since I met Steve. For one night, we hide out in his condo, but he’s leaving in the morning for California. I want to go with him.

Jackson
I can’t take Steve’s fiancée with me to California. He’s going to flip shit over this. But the lying cheating bastard kind of deserves it, and I’ve always had a soft spot for Molly. Or maybe not so soft… because she’s not only sweet and kind, she’s hot as hell. This is a bad idea for so many reasons, and I sure as hell don’t need more drama in my life, but I can’t say no to her.

On this nutso trip, neither of us expect Molly to bond with my bonkers family… especially my poor, confused grandpa. And neither of us expect to bond with each other…

Wow, I have to say that was one way to stop a wedding! I have never seen, read, watched, heard of, anything about the way this wedding had ended in such a glorious manor...it was spectacular!

Jax is a knight in shining hockey skates when Molly needed him the most. Imagine calling off your wedding and now not having anywhere to go because you have moved all of your stuff into the place you are supposed to be sharing with your husband, only now that isn't going to happen...what do you do? Well luckily for Molly Jax was there to help her even if he did it reluctantly.

Jax and Steve are teammates for the Chicago Aces, I loved seeing the old team together for the wedding it was such fun I really missed them since the series ended, but while they are teammates Jax is also friends with Molly, Steve's fiance. I would say that even though there is a brotherhood between teammates there is more of a friendship between Jax and Molly, which is a good thing here.

There is a lot going on in this book and I would say one of my favorite parts is the way Molly helps Jax reconnect with his Family, The Wynn's, and guides him with dealing with his grandfathers illness amongst other things. I think he needed someone to show him a different side of things to help him open up to what was happening.

This was another great addition to the Wynn Hockey Series, I would totally recommend reading the series in order because of the family drama that is playing out in each of the stories but it can be read as a standalone if you choose to read it that way.

Happy Reading!!!

Game Changer was the fifth book in the Wynn Hockey series by Kelly Jamieson. Game Changer could be read as a stand-alone if necessary; however, I still recommend reading the series in order.

Jax Wynn was an NHL Right Winger for the Chicago Aces. He was also a member of the legendary hockey Wynn family. We met the family previously in all books, but this was the first time we met Jax. He was a skilled hockey player, gorgeous, fun and intelligent. After his parents divorce, he stayed as far away from relationships as he could get. No marriage or children for his future.

Molly Flynn. Molly was engaged to one of Jax’s NHL teammates, until she found out he cheated. She was devastated and looking for a place to hide for the summer to heal.

The plot started the night before the previous book ended. No spoilers so no specifics, but it was hysterical. We knew Molly had a cheating fiancé from the book description, but we didn’t know the details. Jamieson was quite creative and humorous. Jamieson then took us through the friendship between Jax and Molly and how it developed into more while simultaneously walking through the Wynn family challenges, Hockey contract negotiations and life lessons. Again, no spoilers so no elaboration, but true to Jamieson’s style, the storyline had depth, dimension and complexity.

All in all, it was entertaining and educational. There are still quite a few Wynn’s left so I’m not sure where Jamieson will take us next. At some point, it looks like Jax’s mom and dad may get a second chance, until then I can’t wait to see where Jamieson takes us next.

Game Changer is the story of Molly and Jax. Jax is a professional hockey player and molly is an elementary teacher. Jax and Molly are trivia buddies. At Molly’s wedding to a fellow teammate….things go awry...when instead of her vows...Molly reads text messages between Steve (groom) and the woman (if you can call her that) he is cheating on her with. Cue in Jax who comes skating in to save the day! (get it skating in because he is a hockey player lol….he is like a knight in shining hockey pads….no wait I can do better...a knight in shining hockey skates….a knight...ok...think I’ve gotten off track here lol). Anyways Jax sneaks her out of the disaster wedding, and when brokenhearted Molly learns he is going out of town to visit family...she sees it as her ticket to get away from dealing with this mess. The more time they spend together...the messier it gets…

My thoughts:

I recently finished my first Kelli Jamieson read, and it was one of my favorite reads of 2020. Needless to say, I was really excited to get my hands on another! Although this book was good...it does not compare to the first one! Maybe some of this is me, and my expectations… but I don’t think so.

Let me start with the good stuff. The wedding….nicely done Jamieson...that is one way to call off a wedding...lol. Both characters were likeable, and I thought they balanced each other out well! I also really enjoyed the travel and the lake setting. And if you didn’t figure it out from my earlier stint with stand up...this is a hockey romance. Anyone who knows me...knows that...one of the only things I love as much as books (well almost as much) is HOCKEY!! So, for me it's an automatic biscuit lighting the lamp for the author.

Although the wedding scene was brilliant...it is also one of the things that kept me from loving the book. Oh, not the actual wedding...the concept... I mean she is at her wedding and a very short time... like a couple of weeks later from what I can tell...she is head over heels in love...true love...happy ever after love with another man? Nope...couldn’t buy it! As good as these characters were together...couldn’t get this out of my head. It messed with me the entire book. I also enjoyed her last book because of the hilarious banter between not only the mc’s, but also his teammates...and I felt like it was really missing in this book. That lack of camaraderie really left a lot of lulls in the book.

Even though this wasn’t one of my favorites...this book was still a solid read, and I definitely plan on reading more of Kelly Jamieson!

This was the best book of the series for me, and I loved everything about it. The characters, the story, the details, the build up to the romance...the love scenes....it had everything I look for in a romance

Molly Flynn dumps her cheating hockey player fiancée at the altar, and in epic fashion. Molly's desperate to leave --she's hurt, humiliated, and embarrassed. Chicago Aces teammate Jaxson Wynn ( Molly's platonic trivia playing buddy) is at the wedding, and is just as shocked as all the guests are. He comes to her rescue and takes her back to his apartment. At this point, Jax and Molly are just buddies-- He teams up with her at a local pub for trivia night. He likes her as a FRIEND; he would never hit on a teammate's girl, no matter that the teammate turns out to be a lying, cheating scumbag. Molly wants to get far away from town to get over her anger and disappointment, and begs jax to take her to L.A., since he's going there the next day to visit his somewhat estranged family. (The Wynns are a complicated, often dysfunctional bunch, but recently they've come together over patriarch Bob Wynn's Alzheimer diagnosis.) Jax wants to patch things up with his grandpa before it's too late, but should he really get involved with Molly and her problems? Molly wears him down and he lets her tag along, and that is just the start of a friendship developing into a beautiful friendship, one filled with lots of important discoveries.

I knew as I turned the pages and learned more about Molly and Jax that they were right for each other. They brought the best out of each other. And watching them fall in love as they spent more and more time together and were a shoulder that each other could lean on...yes, I was rooting for them. And the physical chemistry they had and how they didn't want to go too far because it wasn't right...this isn't a rebound, is it? No you two, you guys were meant to be and thank god you did dump your fiancée at the altar---although it turned out he wasn't a total scumbag, and did want the best for Molly, even if the best was his teammate.

So yeah, I really drank this one up and it made me feel good to read Jax and Molly's journey to happiness. There were some minor bumps along the way, but the need that these two had for each other helped smooth the path. I really enjoyed ALL the details--this story was packed with them--and I especially loved their time together at the cabin on Clear Lake in Manitoba. Of course I had to pull out the atlas to verify--yes, that place is real!

So you're in for a treat if you've been reading the series, and if you're not, and are looking for a hockey series that's filled with good stories and characters to root for, give this a try. I loved everything about it--the hero, the heroine, their mature attitudes, the friends-to-hot-lovers, the plot, the dialogue, their special trivia game near the end, the epilogue...all first rate!

Three and a half stars.

Molly Flynn's wedding to NHL player Steve implodes big time when she is sent explicit texts between Steve and a mysterious woman just before their wedding. In desperation she turns to Steve's teammate Jackson Wynn, who is also her trivia mate, to get her out of there.

Jackson was just dropping in on Molly and Steve's wedding before reluctantly visiting his family and all its accompanying drama. His father cheated on his mother and Jackson has never really forgiven him for that. Then Jackson's grandfather married a much younger woman and fell out with Jackson's father and uncle over money. The entire family dynamic is one huge drama-llama and Jackson wants as little as possible to do with it, if his grandfather didn't have Alzheimer's he wouldn't even have bothered, the last thing he needs is absconding with his teammates fiance - that never bodes well for the team dynamics.

Molly and Jackson have only ever been buddies, drawn together by a mutual love of trivia but as they spend the summer together they find close proximity fosters attraction. Is this a secret summer fling? Is Jackson Molly's rebound guy? Or could this be something more?

I love Kelly Jamieson novels and after a string of disappointing reads this was like a breath of fresh air. A friends to lovers romance between a stoic hockey player and a wholesome teacher? Sign. Me. Up! However, I did feel it started to flag in the middle a bit, maybe there wasn't enough tension? Or, maybe a novel about a hockey player set in the summer off-season lacks the essential sporty element?

Anyway, after the brief lull in the middle I really liked the way this romance was resolved, there were some interesting ways of resolving the inevitable conflict which I found refreshing.

If you want a summer away from the city, relaxing by a lake in Manitoba, barbequing with friends then this is the novel for you.

I have been invested in Kelly Jamieson’s Wynn Hockey series from the start. This is a crazy, messed up, dysfunctional family yet with each book they seem to be figuring out how to get past the hurt and anger that tore the family apart and enjoy one another. In Game Changer, the only Wynn not working for a Wynn owned team helps out a friend only to find that friendship isn’t the only thing on both of their minds.

The last thing Jackson (Jax) Wynn expected to be doing at his teammate’s wedding was helping the bride escape after she outed the groom as a lying, cheating snake. Granted the bride is a friend of his and his trivia night partner, but he’s still concerned about how it will affect his team if word gets out. However, he feels the right thing to do is help Molly out and he doesn’t quite know how to say no when she invites herself on his trip to California to check in on his family.

I honestly don’t know what it was, but I loved the friendship between Jackson and Molly. I think it’s because Jax always seems so serious and in control and Molly is a bit freer and not afraid to share her feelings. They complimented one another very well and it was fun watching them try and deny their growing feelings.

I loved that Molly encouraged Jax to open up to his family and talk about things that he never wanted to confront and it was amazing that he actually took her advice and began to work through some difficult situations with his family and begin to learn a lot about himself. Molly spent a great deal of the book sticking her head in the sand and refusing to deal with her ex- fiancé, her family, her friends, and the wedding she ran out on despite Jax encouraging her to deal with it all.

I enjoyed seeing the younger generation of the Wynn family coming together to support their grandfather who is declining from Alzheimer’s disease and his wife. I love all their different personalities and it was interesting seeing them grow as people and realizing they enjoyed one another’s company.

Molly and Jax spend a lot of time together both in California and then in Canada, this is a slow burn romance but it was perfect given the circumstances.

Game Change was poignant, yet there was fun and romance making it an outstanding story.

After pulling a runaway-bride maneuver at her wedding, Molly was looking to get out of dodge. She begged and pleaded to tag along with Jax, and though he may have had second thoughts, he let her accompany him to California. He thought she could serve as a buffer between him and his family, but the more time he spent with her, the more he realized how special Molly was.

I loved the set up for this book. The wedding scene was fantastic, and I so wanted Jax and Molly to run away together. Their chemistry and connection was easy to see, from miles away, but I concede, it was a tricky situation.

I really enjoyed this book, but it felt quite different from the other Wynn books. I guess that makes sense, since Jax is the only Wynn, who lives away from the family, and plays for a non-Wynn team. It was just odd to spend so little time with the family. Though I must say, the time we spent with them was instrumental in helping Jax come to terms with a lot of his baggage.

Jax's outlook on love and marriage was shaded by his beliefs about what ended his parents union. He couldn't bring himself to believe in love, after watching his parents crash and burn. But, with encouragement from Molly, Jax opened up, and actually talked to his parents, learning the truth about what happened. Not only did Molly's advice help him understand and get an handle on his thoughts about love, it helped him mend a fence with another Wynn family member. Jax was also dealing with feeling he didn't measure up as a Wynn, and I think that made me cheer for him even louder. I always love an underdog. He really grew a lot as he spent time with Molly, and I was happy seeing him find some peace and clarity.

I know some may miss the hockey sequences, as this book takes place during the off season, but I was ok with it, since I had such a fantastic time with Jax and Molly during their trip. It got better and better with each day they spent together, and I was sad to see them have to leave the bubble. We all know, stuff gets real, when they leave the bubble. Needless to say, I was rooting for these two, when they returned to Chicago, because it was clear as day, that they belonged to one another.

This book had a bit of a different feel from the other Wynn books, but I absolutely loved it! Molly and Jax were a perfect pairing, and I had a grand time watching them chase their HEA.

Jax is the Wynn who just wants to keep his distance and play hockey on his terms. Molly thought she found the man of her dreams, to watch them shatter at the altar. She turns to her trivia partner in crime Jax to take her away from the chaos that her life was in. Molly and Jax work in ways they did not realize as the hockey break consumes their lives. I want to visit this lake and see the beauty of Canada now. Relationships are never easy and this book proves it. Adored seeing Wynn family from past books and can't wait to read more.

5 Star Review of For Game Changer (Wynn Hockey #5) by Kelly Jamieson

Game Changer is the fifth book in the Wynn Hockey and is Jackson (Jax) Wynn and Molly Flynn’s story. I enjoy Kelly Jamieson’s style of writing, her characters are strong and yet she shows that they can be human and not the “perfect” hero or heroine and this makes for a realistic and enjoyable read.

Where do I start? What do you do when you find out right before your wedding that your fiancee is cheating? That is the predicament that Molly finds herself in and when she turns to her fiancee’s team mate and her friend Jax for help, he really has no choice but to help her.

Jax does whatever he can to avoid the craziness that is is family and the last thing he should be contemplating is taking Molly with him to visit his family, however that is just what happens. The family dynamics of the Wynn family is convoluted, however you know that they love one another and will protect and have one another’s back at all times.

The chemistry between Jax and Molly sizzles and as the intensity grows you could feel the heat. I loved Jackson, he is totally swoon worthy, he made me laugh and smile and ticked the boxes for me. I also loved how Molly was welcomed into the Wynn family, they may be eccentric at times but when they love someone they embrace them wholeheartedly.

A well written romance which had me totally invested in the story that Ms.Jamieson wove and is my favourite to date.

Okay, first I must mention that as far as beginnings go in a book, this Wynn book is a #win!! (I can never write Wynn for the #win enough lolol) Second, I have so much love for not only Jackson and Molly but the storyline as well that I am ridiculously bursting! My heart is so darn full you guys! There’s more to Game Changer than just a romance journey between Molly and Jax. There’s the Wynn family as well. I know I’ve said this before, but I mean it this time lol, THIS is the best Wynn of them all!!!

Jackson and Molly are two of my favorite people right now. They were so good for each other. It wasn’t a one way thing. Molly had a lot to adjust to, obviously, but so did Jackson. They both had struggles outside of navigating a romance together and they were each other’s perfect ally. This was spectacularly swoony. ALL OF IT. From their romantic times to their sexy times to their building friendship to just all of it. I smiled a lot while I read this story and I also had a couple tears. Not because the story itself was s ad, quite the opposite, it was just overwhelming at times between the family dynamics and the team dynamics all being so positive. It’s one of the best *happy sigh* I have experienced in a while!

READ THIS BOOK. READ THIS FAMILY. Seriously.

The ending was so cute it had me rounding up from 3.5 to 4 stars.

I was confused when the second chapter switched to Molly's perspective, and I was like ohhh, is she the heroine?? 👀 So Molly dumps her fiance at the altar when she discovers he's been cheating on her. She begs their mutual friend & her fiance's team member, Jax, to take her away and they end up going to California together.

I wasn't sure if this was the author's intention, but I got the sense that Molly wasn't the prettiest girl at the beginning of the book. Definitely not ugly, but not a real looker. Jax was the more conventionally attractive one.

I felt like Molly and Jax were a really good fit, and I could see them having fun together. Also, the two made me want to get into trivia! I don't think I know anyone with that hobby.

I was excited to be back in the Wynn Hockey Series world and Game Changer was everything I expected and more, Game Changer is the fifth book in the series and it’s Jackson (Jax) Wynn and Molly Flynn’s story. Ms Jamieson really has a way with words, she gives you characters you can’t help falling in love with and she touches on everyday problems that we can all relate to which makes me feel like I’m catching up with old friends with every book I pick up in this series.
What do you do when you find out just before you walk down the aisle that your fiancée is cheating on you, hard decision, do you walk away, do you go through with the wedding and work it out later or do you walk down the aisle and shame him before making a run for it, well when a Molly finds herself in this predicament she calls on her friend Jax for help, problem is he is also her fiancée’s teammate. Jax knows helping Molly could come back to bite him in many ways but he does what any good friend would do and that’s help her escape but another problem is he is off to visit his family and really has no option but to take Molly along hoping in his heart that she can deal with the crazy world of hockey royalty the Wynn family.....
I love this family, they may be eccentric and unconventional but they are a family who loves with all their hearts and they welcome Molly with open arms. Great addition to one of my favourite hockey series, this is an entertaining read with wonderful characters, it’s well written and I can’t wait for more from the Wynn world.

I love this series so much! I hate to pick a favorite Wynn, as I adore this hockey family, but I do think it's possible that Jackson "Jax" Wynn may just be mine! He won my heart over from the start when he comes to the rescue of his friend and trivia partner Molly Flynn when she finds herself in a pretty crappy situation. The fact that he does this despite the awkward situation it could put him in with one of his teammates, really made me swoon.
I love Molly too, she is a teacher and is just so sweet. But she is strong and does not put up with any crap. That's how she ends up needing a diversion from her life and luckily Jax is more than happy to oblige.
I absolutely loved watching Jax and Molly's friendship morph almost daily into so much more. It may take a while for them to come to the realization that they really could be more than friends if they just allow it to happen, but when they do, it's magical. They have such amazing chemistry and so much in common and eventually are able to open up and talk to each other about everything, which is very helpful in their other relationships.
I just adore them together and loved their journey to happily ever after.
So many emotional and heartwarming things happen in this story that were a long time coming in the Wynn family dynamic! I loved this book!

Game Changer by Kelly Jamieson a five-star read that changed the game for me. This is number five in the Wynn Hockey series but it can easily be read as stand-alone as I haven’t read anything by this author and didn’t feel like I missed anything, I will be going back to check them out as I really enjoyed meeting all of the characters and would love to get to know them all. This story just blew me away, I was sucked in from the first page, I did not see what happened coming. I must say though I was so happy to see Vitamin String Quartet mentioned as I adore them and it just meant I could play the song and imagine I was there with them all in the pandemonium have a glass of bubbly in the corner, it took me away from the crazy that is life now. I fell in Love with both Jackson and Molly they both just had soft sides that needed a push. This was such a nicely paced story, it was believable and so nice, as well as hot in just the right amount so it wasn’t all flames and burnt out fire, it was a long slow burn that stays hot long after its gone out. I haven’t read many Hockey stories but I suspect after this one it maybe a changing.

I LOVE the Wynn family and all their nuttiness. The more of this series I read the more, the more I fall in love. Game Changer is my favorite book out of this series to date.

Jax is a Wynn, however, he doesn’t want to play for either of his family’s teams. He wants to do this on his own. Molly is about to get married to a hockey player, until she reads some texts in the middle of the ceremony and walks out. Her and Jax are friends, even though her ex is his teammate, they are trivia partners. I love the easy-going vibe of their friendship. They have so much in common. They both push each other to open up and get out of their shells.

I loved how naturally their relationship progressed, how Jax’s family instantly bonded with Molly. Molly’s friends were also supportive of her choices. Jax is also super supportive when it comes to Molly. He can’t tell her no, you can feel how much he cares for her and just wants her to be happy.

Game Changer is steamy, sweet and full of Wynn family nuttiness. It can be read as a standalone, however, I highly recommend reading the rest of the series to get all the Wynn family drama. A MUST READ hockey romance!

I loved this story so much!
Hands down the best book in this whole series! If you don’t fall in love with these characters, something is wrong with you! Jax and Molly are perfect for each other. This is a wonderful story about two friends who bond over friendship first and then love. Too bad neither realizes they are in love with the other one until much later in the story. BUT, that’s me getting ahead of myself.
We start this one off with Molly leaving her wedding (before getting married) and begging Jax (her friend and ex-fiancé’s teammate) to take her with him to visit his family in California. She just needs time away. Jax decides to let her come. And that’s the start of this friendship turning into more.

This one is part of a series, but can definitely be read on its own.
You’ll love this one!

Jax is a big ole softie where his woman is concerned, "I can’t say no to her, godda*mit. I never can. I hope she doesn’t realize this, or I’m effed. “Sure. Why not.” I loved Jax's grandpa, "I’m honestly speechless at this. My eyes flick over to Molly who also appears dumbstruck. “And look at you.” He gestures to Molly. “Of course Jackson is attracted to you.” I liked this book, I liked Jax.

I loved this story and Molly was a champ! She had guts and that is so stinking hard. I appreciate how Jackson was friends with Molly and helped her escape from the reality for awhile. It is rarely pointed out that the communication can stem from childhood and really has to be work to talk and not keep everything in. I enjoyed this book and am so glad to have more Wynn family reunions every time.

Game Changer (Wynn Hockey #5) by: Kelly Jamieson

Game Changer by Kelly JamiesonMy rating: 4 of 5 starsIt's a challenge to read hearts. Yet, Jamieson continues to accept that challenge by proving herself quite adept at doing so. Game Changer brings back one of my favorite families. The Wynns are always welcome on my bookshelves. From their grace of character to their strength of heart, they don't hesitate to make an impression. However, it's the least seen amplified flaws in their character that continue to draw me. Foolish pride, huge ego and fear of vulnerability are a constant when dealing with a Wynn. Molly and Jackson are the lastest in a long line of unlikely matches. They shouldn't work, but you so what them to. Unpredictable is a beautiful thing when you are getting to know your heart.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the fifth book in the series, and I would highly recommend that you read them in order to understand all the family dynamics. That said Jackson lives on the East coast, and tries to avoid family drama, so you could still enjoy the story without going backwards - although you may choose to once you have read this installment. Though this is a sports romance, for a variety of reasons, in this story we get to see how Jackson's contract negotiations with his NHL team are causing him concern.

There is most definitely a dramatic start to Molly and Jackson's summer, not one that either of them had envisaged. But it makes for a really wonderful opportunity for them both to learn about themselves, and for Jackson in particular to learn how he could have misjudged things in his family. As his and Molly's relationship takes on a different dimension - no longer just trivia quiz buddies - she helps him see that there may be an alternative side to the story. Now they just need to figure out what that may mean for them.

I really enjoyed this book; it has a really light touch in the friends to lovers theme. So light that the two of them never even think to admit their feelings to each other - but certainly everyone around them is clued in far sooner, which is fun. A good addition to the series, thank you.

So poor Molly Flynn's wedding to NHL player Steve ends up being mortifying when the rat bastard is caught cheating on her.. She needs to get out of there and luckily for her Jackson whom is a friends of her and team mate to cheating rat bastard helps her get out. Now Jackson helps Molly leave but they are just friends, Steve is still his teammate but a cheating scumbag. Will he go there, someone who would be deemed off limits, but Steve was the wrong one, and Jackson is realizing that there was a mutual attraction, could they have more? Grab a copy!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Molly has gotten the worst news of her life and on the night before her wedding, what she does with it is the right thing and now she needs to get away for a while. Who does she turn to but her friend Jackson Wynn, who just so happens to be her ex-fiance teammate.
Jackson has always had a soft spot for Molly, she is a great person, fun to be around, and the best trivia partner he has ever had. He takes her to his condo for the night but he is leaving for California the next day so see his family. Molly wants to go with him because she needs to get away and clear her mind. Jackson knows it's a bad idea but lets her tag along. They have fun together, his family likes her and is hs beginning to have feelings for her?
He can't be falling for his teammate's ex, it isn't right. Is Molly feeling the same or is it just a rebound crush? Will they be able to talk about what they are feeling? Can they still be friends? Will there be a chance for a future together?
I really like this series and I liked Molley and Jax too. This is a good story with all the feels and family to keep you interested and reading until the end because you want to know what happens. I hope you give this one a chance and enjoy it too.

As Garth Brooks says “sometimes Gods greatest gifts are unanswered prayers…” School teacher Molly dumps her cheating hockey player fiancé at the altar. He deserves it. She gets his teammate and her trivia partner Jax Wynn to help her bail. And thus begins our multilayered story.
Jax is a complicated mess. He doesn’t believe in long term relationships. He has a dysfunctional relationship with most of his family. And the team is taking their time offering him an acceptable new contract. And then there is his trivia partner and friend Molly.
Molly is hurt and angry. The night before her wedding she is sent screenshots proving the man she is about to marry is cheating on her and has no respect for her. Her friend Jax is there and she begs him to help a girl out.
What they didn’t expect is to grow closer over the summer. This friends to lovers tale is fun, steamy and unexpectedly sweet. This is an enjoyable escape. Though this is part of a series it can read as a standalone perfectly well.

We continue with the Wynn family drama, except this book is a little bit lighter on the drama and a little more of an eye opening and a reminder to not let things pass you by. I had a quick connection with the characters and loved seeing all the others a little too.

Molly finds herself walking out of her wedding after sharing her fiancé's secrets with the who invited group. She is looking to get away while she can, to let the aftermath blow over. Needing some time to come to terms with this change in her life path. Asking her friend Jax to get her out of there.

Jax has always been a no marriage and commitment kind of guy. Watching first his Grandfather and then his parents marriage fall apart, who could blame him. Oh he believed that for some it worked but just figured it wasn't in his cards. He is a gentleman and an overall nice guy though, so he couldn't leave that wedding without first making sure his trivia night buddy was ok. Surprised but happy to help when she asks him to help her get out of that church.

Molly and Jax certainly didn't expect anything more than one friend helping out another when they started off on this journey. Is it possible to be heart broken and fall in love so quickly? Could it be that Jax was wrong all this time? Will they open their hearts to a possible love or have the hurts of the past closed them off for good?

Jackson Wynn, professional hockey player and part of the famous Wynn hockey dynasty, hasn’t gone to visit his family in California in a while. His family is a bit crazy. He would rather just spend the summer at the family cottage in Manitoba, now that hockey season is over, which he will do after his trip to California. Jax found out his grandfather has Alzheimer’s and he needs to visit him. First he needs to attend the wedding of one of the Ace Hockey teammates. This is when all hell breaks loose. Molly Flynn, his trivia buddy and future wife of his teammate, Steve, just read a bunch of texts that she copied from her fiancé’s phone. Apparently Steve has been having an affair and Molly just found out and the church is stunned. After she runs out and hides from everyone in a room in the church, her bridesmaids are giving Steve hell for what he did. I go in search for her and thank goodness she lets me in. Now Molly asks me to please get her out of there and we end up in my apartment. Jax is freaking out about having Molly spend the night at his house. What if Steve finds out. He offers his place to hide out while he goes to California. To his surprise, Molly says she’s going with him. No matter what he says, she’s determined to join him.

Molly just wants to leave town after the disaster of her almost wedding. Going with her friend Jax is the best idea. While in California she meets his family and it turns out they all love her.

Jax at first was skeptical about having Molly with him, but it turns out that not only he has mended fences with them, but specially his father. They finally talked about the divorce, and the fact that Jax thought his Dad had cheated on his Mom. Turns out he was wrong about that. Feeling like this trip was a success, Jax asks Molly if she wants to go with him to Manitoba, since they had such a great time together.

Now that it’s just the two of them alone in the cottage, their attraction is undeniable. Both are trying so hard to stay away, until the night Jax took Molly to see the Northern Lights. Now they can’t keep their hands to themselves. Agreeing that this will stay in Canada and not follow them to Chicago. It would be too hard to keep a secret. However, feelings have a funny way of not staying away once you’re back home.

This is another fabulous hit for Kelly Jamieson! I have love reading every book in the Wynn family, that I feel I know them personally.

Game Changer is a fantastic steamy romance, with a bride leaving her cheating fiancé, friends becoming lovers, and of course family and hockey. Each one of Kelly Jaimeson’s Wynn hockey novels gets better and better every book.

Molly finds out her fiancé is cheating on her the night before her wedding. She goes through with the wedding, but once she gets to her vows, she instead reads aloud texts between her fiancé and his girlfriend. After this show of strength and revenge, she convinces Jax, her fiancé’s hockey teammate, to help her escape for a while. She ends up accompanying Jax on his trip to visit his family in California. While in the past the two have simply shared a friendly love of bar trivia nights, now they become much closer.

While Molly feels like an idiot for not realizing her fiancé was cheating, over the course of the book she comes to realize that maybe they just weren’t as compatible as she’d originally thought. Getting left at the altar is a trope I enjoy, and it was fabulous this time. The best part is Molly telling off the groom in front of everyone calmly. Usually the bride just loses it and people annoyingly tell her to calm down, but this was sweet revenge that didn’t make her look weak.

Molly and Jax are awesome. I loved that trivia is their “thing,” it adds layers to both their characters. And, it is adorable that Molly is better at hanging out with the entire Wynn family than Jax. Her compassion for his grandfather’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis and his complicated family dynamics show Jax what a kind person she is. As always, it’s fun to see characters from earlier books. Don’t worry, this book works well as a stand alone and you don’t have to read the others in the series first.

Looking back, it’s a book about hockey without much actual playing of hockey. Instead, it focuses on the off season and offers more of a behind the scenes look at professional hockey, which worked well. I loved this return visit with the Wynn family, and can’t wait to read about them again soon.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
