Rate this book
A standalone MM paranormal romance

A vampire, guilty of killing his own sire, is left for dead in the territory of a lone wolf. When Hugo stumbles upon Ivan, he’s faced with an impossible choice: leave the injured vampire to perish in the sun’s rays, or take him to the home he’s lived in alone for the last decade.

Ivan, bleeding and helpless, must trust this mysterious werewolf to protect him and nurse him back to health. He learns Hugo is on his own, cast out from his pack and cut off from his family.

Hugo saves his life, and Ivan will do anything to return the favor—even take on the rogue alpha terrorizing Hugo’s childhood pack.

Can an outcast werewolf and a disgraced vampire find love, or will an old enemy tear them apart?

Feral Dawn is a novella-length MM paranormal/fantasy romance featuring a vampire who will do anything to protect those he loves, a shy werewolf willing to take a risk, hurt/comfort, and a touch of violence for readers who love a good fight scene.

I am definitely drawn to vampire/shifter pairings, so I was excited to check out this story. I think Lee Colgin gives us an interesting set up here with two men who are loners, both outcasts from their supernatural societies. It creates a nice kinship among them, particularly as Hugo saves Ivan’s life. I liked that Hugo had to reacclimatize to his human form, and that Ivan’s presence seemed to ground him a little. While the dialog sometimes feels a bit stiff and formal, overall the writing here flows well and this is a nice, easy story. The guys are sweet and the story has a nice warmth, despite the sometimes violent events.

However, this is a fairly short novel (only about 100 pages) and I just felt that too much was left undeveloped for the story it tried to cover. From a romance end, these guys meet, share a conversation or two, and then are pretty much committed for life. They are basically paired up almost immediately, with no real sense of what is drawing them together beyond the fact that Ivan is grateful for Hugo saving his life. Some time does pass off page, but these guys are a couple almost instantly and, by a quarter of the way through the book, their relationship is essentially resolved. I just needed more between them to feel the connection and the chemistry, but instead it just happens very fast with not enough development.

Excellent story

Wonderful plot and characters. Good pacing and a happy ending all rolled into a novella sized book. Even though the author says it’s a standalone it would be great to read a follow up continuing this tale.

It was a really sweet novella. I loved the relationship between Hugo and Ivan.
Even, if they're two different species (one vampire and one Shifter) they're the same. They both want to protect their family, they both want to protect and take care of each other.

I recommend it, it's a fast and enjoyable read.

2.5 ⭐️⭐️✨
A novella about a vampire near death, and the lone wolf that saves him. Hugo is more wolf than man, and always believed he was kicked out of his pack for being so. After having been shunned from the pack, he went off on his own and created a place for himself. It was easier being a wolf, so he spent years that way, not stepping into his human form until he finds a vampire about to die from sun exposure. When Hugo finds Ivan, he has to switch back to human and he carries Ivan to his home.
From there, it’s an insta love, insta lust, close proximity type of story. They have sex, move in together and become mates pretty quickly.

I never have a problem with insta love in novellas, because there’s only so many pages available that everything has to happen quick. But I felt like with this one, it was just…rushed, and the sex also kind of took over the story. I actually feel like it was most of the story. There wasn’t much depth to these characters or their relationship. I wasn’t feeling it very much.
I almost didn’t finish it, but because it was short I decided just to keep going. It could really just be me though. I loved Mongrel so much, so maybe I was just doing too much comparison? 🤷🏻‍♀️

This author wrote some of my favourite books (Mongrel), so maybe that is why I feel so disappointed with this one. I found it boring and predictable, with some miscommunication between the MC's to round it off. I am in the midst of a book slump, so I think it is me who are just impossible to please at the moment. That being said, I did not hate it. It was just that I did not really super liked it. But I will definitely read the next book written by Lee, for sure.

Interspecies Love

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are authentic for me. Ivan is a vampire that has been sentenced to die for killing his maker. His blood was drained and he was left outside for the sunrise to kill him. Hugo is a lone wolf out for a hunt and smells the vampires. Hugo saves Ivan from the sun and takes him to his cave. Hugo hunts for Ivan so he can recover. The two men eventually admit that they care for each other. Ivan tries to help Hugo reconnect with his pack but that goes wrong. Before the two men can have a happily ever after they must talk.

Wonderful!

Ivan and Hugo are wonderful! What a beautiful story about love and adversity. Lee has a way with words and situations that grab you from the first chapter and leaves you with a very deluged sigh.
Highly recommended

I really enjoyed this relatively short story. Hugo and Ivan were such sweet likable characters. They had been through such rough times before they met and it was wonderful seeing them help each other as they build a life together.

A beautiful story

Such a quick read. I couldn't put it down and I wish there was more. Such a sweet love story with a little added spice. From Hugo saving Ivan and how they instantly connected. I enjoyed this book so much and I had tears of happiness in the end. A must read.

Short and sweet. Is it life changing? No, but it's a good little story.

I actually really liked the vampire sentence/execution intro. It's not often we get to see how vampires enforce their laws.

Short decent read where two different shifters come together and help each other heal whilst falling for each other. The vampire is left drained in the sun to die as he killed his sire who was after his sister and is found by a werewolf who is outcast from his pack due to challenging the alphas reign. The werewolf helps the vampire heal, and the vampire in turn helps the werewolf deal with his past. He decides to go back to his pack to see his family and finds the alpha has run the pack into the ground.

This is a short read, somewhere between a short story & a novella. I read it in about an hour's time, but I'm a relatively fast reader.

As a book of that length, it was good; the story was engaging, Ivan & Hugo are extremely likeable, and there were no loose ends with regard to the plot. It does move a bit quickly with a sort of insta-love. (There's a brief mention of fate, but not in the trope of fated mates, just Ivan's thinking that it must have been fate that brought them together at the moment he needed saving.) I would have liked to have seen more dialogue between Hugo & Ivan to get to see their personalities shine. I didn't doubt their affection for one another, that they cared for one another, and that they were both empathetic & lonely individuals who fit together, but a little more dialogue would have enriched the story for me.

The world building was decent, though more focused on wolf society than Ivan's vampire world. Much of the latter part of the story is related to Hugo's pack, its past, present & potential future. The pack's setup and situation was similar to some other shifter stories, especially the idea of a corrupt alpha who needs to be dealt with; however, unlike many wolf/vampire books, there wasn't a huge rift between the two societies - they weren't friendly necessarily, but there was no war, so to speak. There are psychic abilities in this book's vampire world that I thought were pretty nifty too.

I would have liked just a teensy bit more information on vampires though; for example, when Hugo was approaching Ivan, his internal monologue mentioned believing that he heard vampires flying off. I was curious about that. How did vampires in this world fly? Did they transform into very large bats? It wasn't clear to me & it never came up again. Perhaps this book will lead into a series or is related to another of the author's books & I am simply unaware of it.

All in all though, I enjoyed the story & I would read more of this author's works.

Feral Dawn by author Lee Colgin, I liked this paranormal story. I found it gave me a new perspective on vampire and wolf relations that I had not seen before. This story is written in dual POV and is a fast-paced action-packed read.
Ivan is found starved and almost dead by Hugo. Ivan had killed his sire, granted it was to save his sister but killing a sire resulted in death that was the vampire council’s rules. He has only been a vampire for four weeks.
Hugo is a wolf banished from his pack. He usually is in wolf form. Helping Ivan is the closest thing he has had to human interaction in years. He even shifts to his human form for Ivan.
Both men have tragic pasts to get over. And both men need each other more than they even know. I loved this story. I hope it becomes part of a series. I see where this could go in the future and I would love to know more about the politics and side characters that are introduced.

Vampires, wolves, new beginnings with awesome characters creates a memorable read.    My heart was so touched by these really special MC's!  I loved the story-line and the writing flowed really well.  The characters were well crafted and had layers that allowed me to connect and fall in love with them.

Hugo and Ivan have know heartbreak and they recognize goodness and kindness when they see it.  Their connection builds out of fate bringing Ivan into Hugo's area of the wilderness.  From their very first interactions their is a feeling of connection and it grows and becomes so special.   Both of these characters had be treated badly by their cultures, one  was an outcast Wolf and a disgraced Vampire. We really get to see their hearts and how they were both deserving of a good life.

I was gifted this book from Gay Romance Reviews and i freely give my honest opinion and review.

This was a fairly quick read with no real angst. Hugo finds Ivan dying in his territory and decides to save him. Hugo has been in exclusively in his wolf form for the last seven years after his was banished from his pack. They turn out to be mates, though they don't discuss it until towards the end of the book. We get back ground on the wolves and their society but not so much on the vampire side. We get to see some of their day to day living and ultimately Hugo going back to his pack and taking care of the alpha tyrant. I was happy to see that his family, as well as the pack, accepted Ivan so there doesn't appear to be any animosity between wolves and vampires.

I was dead, I knew this would be my fate after I killed him my sire, but at least my sister was safe, now I wait for the sun. I never would have guessed he would save me this lone wolf but he did, he took me in, fed me and let me heal, both of us outcasts but somehow fitting together. He became my wolf, my Hugo, and I wanted to help him change the things that had happened to make him an outcast and give him back the place he deserves in his pack. Because in his pack we could make our life, a vampire and a werewolf the most unusual of mates, where we could be together in love forever but only time will tell.

3 stars!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book but it goes live May 5.

A vampire on the edge of death saved by a lone wolf. It was definitely an enticing blurb and the story was good. I think the thing that kept it at merely good and not great was that the relationship was pretty glossed over. One day they each, individually, decided they were doing the mate thing but didn't really communicate that to each other. I also wanted more details about this world.

Overall, this was a good story about a vampire and wolf finding love...together.

Ivan is a young vampire condemned to die in the sun for killing his sire. Hugo is a werewolf who left his pack ten years ago. When Hugo finds Ivan just before the sun rises, he acts on his instincts and rescues him… Ivan’s gratitude soon turns into love for the brave man who saved him
A short story which threads somewhere between fated mates and friends to lovers. Both main characters are cute, and their love store feels a bit like insta love. There is a bit of conflict, a bit of anguish, and a sweet HEA.
Cute but nor memorable

I liked this book though I did feel the romance was a bit rushed. I did enjoy the authors writing style and way of telling a story in a short amount of time, but I would have loved if this story was longer with just a little bit more world building. Overall though it was entertaining especially toward the ending. This story easily held my attention from the very beginning to the very end.

I enjoyed the relationship between Ivan and Hugo and felt the connection even with it being rushed. Both are very likable.

I would definitely re-read this story again.

Varying degrees of emotions. Writing flowed kept me captivated, Hugo was a shy werewolf, enjoyed reading about his background, unfortunately not enough on Ivan’s vampire background which I would have liked. I liked the hurt/comfort, a good fight scene and the chemistry was insta-love which I enjoyed. Lee is a new author for me and I look forward to reading more of her stories.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I definitely recommend this book.

One saves a life and the other saves a soul.

Hugo has been in his wolf form for ten years after being kicked out of his pack by the jealous alpha. He stumbles across the almost dead vampire Ivan who's been given a death sentence by sun since he killed his maker to save his sister young Ivy. One life in exchange for another. A good story told with sensuous feelings, acceptance of their differences, and eventual familial and pack acceptance. Violence near the ending in the form of an Alpha challenge. I was given an ARC through GRR for my honest opinion and review.
