Fascinating read!
When i'm giving my perspectives on any book that i've finished reading, I try to not give up spoilers because I very much want interested readers to be entice just by what little i do highlight about the storylines. So as to 'EMBRACING THE MOON', this is why i found it such a fascinating read:-
It's an engrossing story that is the sequel to 'EMBRACING THE DAWN' which follows the lives and trials of both Gwen & Taylor -- plus their journey to falling in love. Even the many characters who did enthralled us, shocked us and also annoyed us in the previous book do continue to engaged us with their supportive roles in this riveting story -- also surrounded by a few new characters that played an important part to their (Gwen & Taylor's) story.
From the very beginning of the book, their storyline took off. There is no hesitation as to why Ms.Levig chose to have these two characters developed feelings for one another. Readers might have gotten a feel for their connection and chemistry while coaching and advising EJ on her own feelings towards Jinx in the previous book. So after a few intimate moments and spending time together both declared how each felt and got into a romantic relationship. Then deciding to have this fresh start to love, looked and felt grand only to be anything but perfect because later on in the storyline, Gwen & Taylor would face the most frightening, traumatic and humbling experience of their lives.
I like that Ms.Levig took her time telling this story because it's a story within a story and she does deliver a stirring story that should be devoured.
'EMBRACING THE MOON' is not a dreary story. It's very thought-provoking and intense at times and has this rollercoaster of emotions at certain intervening moments but at the same time the storytelling does not diminish from the breathless love story that the author is trying to tell.
A highly recommended 2nd book!

3.5⭐️ – Even though it’s set in the same universe, you don’t need to have read Embracing the Dawn to enjoy Embracing the Moon. I read it and, as usual, only remember that I liked it and nothing about the story. The couple from the first book is in this one and they’re essential secondary characters but it’s a whole new story. That said, since the MCs in this story are one of the other story’s MC’s best friends, I’m sure I missed a layer, but I don’t think it hurt my enjoyment of the book.
Taylor, 55, and Gwen, 37, have been best friends and colleagues for over a decade. They’re both attracted to the other but neither has tried to act on it beyond playful flirting. Taylor believes Gwen is straight, until, on the eve of their other best friend’s wedding, Gwen lets it slip that she, in fact, is not.
This book begins as a pretty lighthearted and steamy story then it takes a tragic turn. An interesting storyline involving a character from Gwen’s past allows Taylor to show who she really is beneath the player her friends know her as. And what happens to Gwen makes her instinctual personality take over, without any societal varnish. There are a lot of frustrating moments on both sides (and some of that frustration spills over to the reader) but the rediscovery of who they are, what they had, what they could have is more sweet than bitter. All the secondary characters add their own flavour to the story, especially EJ, the third best friend, who finds herself in a very delicate position on many levels: regarding the three-way friendship, Taylor and Gwen’s new relationship, Gwen’s brush with death…
I realise I’m being very vague. The tragic event I mentioned above took me by surprise and I’d hate to spoil it and what comes after.

This is my first Jeannie Levig book, but it won't be my last. I will be going back and reading Embracing the Dawn so I can get EJ and Jinx's story. While this book brings EJ's two best friends, Taylor and Gwen to the forefront, it can be read as a standalone.
Taylor has resigned herself to living the life of a single woman and it has been just fine. Even at 55, she can have any woman she wants. So what if she is insanely attracted to her best friend. Gwen has been best friends with Taylor for ten years. She has always been attracted to the older woman but would never jeopardize losing her friendship. And she's never told Taylor she isn't as straight as everyone thinks she is.
The two women finally confess their attraction for each other and start exploring that attraction. And they really do some exploring! These two have some insane chemistry. After a few weeks of their new dynamic, things are going better than either ever could have imagined and then tragedy strikes. What follows is a long and difficult road for both to navigate,
I was completely surprised by the twist in the story. It made me love Taylor even more. I am always drawn to the player who has so many deeper layers to her and Taylor is so much more than even she recognizes. She is a special character. I really appreciated how much she grew as the story progressed. And Gwen is the perfect complement to Taylor.
This was an enjoyable read and the supporting characters were an interesting group. Jinx fascinates me and I am looking forward to reading Embracing the Dawn to get her story. I think we could have done without the person from one of the characters past and still had a fulfilling experience. That character was really my only issue with the book. I just couldn't feel anything for her. Aside from her, this book is well worth the read.

Emotional rollercoaster is this novel. Full of happiness, sorrow, anger, laughter.... love. This book will capture your heart and is a real page turner! The characters are all loveable, the storyline is captivating.

This is the sequel to Embracing the Dawn, which is one of my favourite Levig books. The relationship between Gwen and Taylor is hinted at in ETD, so I was happy to hear there would be a sequel about them. Unfortunately, I found it to be a bit of a mixed bag.
So, this features MC Taylor, who is EJ from ETD’s BFF of 20 years, and MC Gwen, EJ’s admin assistant and the other BFF, who’s been part of the group for about 10 years. Both women have long been attracted to the other, but never acted on it because of the friendships. Due to EJ moving away after the events of ETD and not being around so much, Taylor and Gwen’s relationship has changed as they spend more time together and they’ve both found it harder to deny the attraction. Things come to a head at EJ and Jinx’s wedding and they embark on a relationship.
I found the first 50% of the book to be fairly enjoyable, the only quibbles I had were the awkwardness of the scene of Gwen deliberately walking in on Taylor and her date in the shower, BFF or not, that was way overstepping, and the way they treated that woman was gross. The other issue was that there’s a lot of sex in the first half, I realised upon finishing the book why this was (and it’s hot so if you love sexy times you’ll no doubt enjoy it) but given what happens in the second half of the book, I’d have preferred less sex and more of the emotional connection to help sustain the relationship in the second half.
That brings me to the biggest issue with this book, at the 50% mark there’s a major plot development, and it derails the relationship between the MCs in a big way. It also forces the reader to spend way too much time with a character from the past that I just did not care for or about. The conveniences in the plot to allow this character in were also way too much for me. There’s also some metaphysical stuff, which I didn’t mind. I also found EJ very hard to take in the last 50%, and was ‘Team Taylor’ with regards to how she treated Taylor and Taylor’s relationship with Gwen.
On the plus side, we get to spend a lot of time with EJ and Jinx (who is her usual wonderful self in this book) and their collection of friends, including Sparkle and Reggie from ETD. There’s also a ‘newish’ character in Namastacey, who is mentioned in ETD but has a fair sized role in this and is a great character.
Overall though, I found this a bit uneven. There were other ways to write this but still include these elements that I think would have worked better (including leaving Krista out completely and just having Taylor and Gwen find their way back to each other to overcome what was already a significant plot point without the added complication). I’d rate the first half at 4 stars and the second half at around 3. So we’ll call this 3.5. If you haven’t read Levig before, or have read her books but haven’t read Embracing the Dawn I suggest starting there, and I also highly recommend A Wish Upon a Star.

Embracing the Moon by Jeannie Levig is the second novel in the “Embracing the Dawn” series. This book tells the story of Taylor Matthews and Gwen Jamison who are secondary characters in the first tale.
Gwen and Taylor have been friends for years. Gwen has also been secretly attracted to Taylor for most of that time, but she would never allow that attraction to show. Events in Gwen’s past make her leery of relationships, especially with a player like Taylor. A past relationship that ended badly has also made Taylor refuse to consider anything more than one night stands, except when she looks at her friend Gwen.
This is a fascinating love story filled with friendship, love and quite a bit of angst which only makes the story more appealing. It is a great character driven story, especially with Taylor. One of the things I enjoyed most in this novel is seeing Taylor grow and allow her better self (the one she had locked up inside) to show. All of the characters are well-developed and the plot will keep you reading to the very end. The traumatic event that happens about midway through the tale and what happens after will definitely keep you reading.

I read Embracing the Dawn last year when it came out and enjoyed it so when I saw this one set in the same universe I had to pick it up. I think I liked this one even better than the first so it was definitely a good choice! I loved Gwen and Taylor, they made great main characters and I was rooting for them from the beginning. I was not prepared for the major event in the middle of the story and it kept my attention way past my bedtime. I was reminded of all the great characters from the first book too and EJ and Jinx were very involved in the plot. The writing was well done and the plot was engaging. I didn't love some of EJ's reactions immediately after the major event but I could see how a real person may have similar reactions during such an emotional time. This could be read without reading the first one but I do think it'd be more enjoyable if you did. The characters made this book great and kept me wanting to turn to the next page, I would definitely recommend reading this.

This is book 2 of the Embracing the Dawn series. I loved book one which gives name to the series and I was looking forward to reading this next one which features two secondary characters from the first book, Taylor and Gwen.
What I love about Jeannie Levig is that she doesn't stick to a strict formula for her romances, for me personally, sometimes it works really well like in Embracing the Dawn, some others not as much, for example in her book Into Thin Air.
In this case, I have to say that I didn't feel a strong chemistry between the mains. There's always that chance when there's a character who is a player and a best friend who holds a candle for her.
I didn't read the blurb which gives a subtle hint that something is going to happen so the plot twist came as a surprise to me. I still wasn't invested in the characters that much, but that change of events kept me turning pages anyway.
It's great to have had the chance to catch up with a few characters from Embracing the Dawn, especially EJ and Jinx. The secondary characters play a major role in this book and it was very good to see them in another light.
Overall, this is a good summer read, especially if you like a bit of drama in your romances. 3.5 stars.

I am new to this author and am happily blown away by this book. Taylor Matthews is 55 and hasn’t been in love since she was 19. She is a smooth player with no plans for relationships. Gwen Jamison is 37 and has been attracted to Taylor for almost ten years since they started working together. They are the best of friends and Taylor has no idea that Gwen has ever been interested in women. All of that changes at the wedding of EJ, the other best friend in their trio. Gwen drinks too much, a kiss is shared and there is no going back from that moment. While EJ honeymoons Gwen and Taylor explore their long restrained feelings and passions. And then the author throws unexpected twists and turns making Gwen have to deal with her past. And Taylor has a hard time making their friends understand the depth of her feelings and how it has changed her. I’m not giving away spoilers.
I read as a stand alone but this is a sequel to Embracing the Dawn. The wedding is for the couple in that book. Not having read it I can’t comment on if Gwen and Taylor are part of that story. But that friendship group surrounding them and the chosen family add extra depth in this story. EJ. the decision maker, Jinx who tells dad jokes and Namastacey who gives spiritual advice are rich supporting characters. And I had tears in my eyes when Gwen gets to play frisbee with Dexter. You’ll understand when you get there.
I had no expectations other than a mature age-gap romance with a friends to lovers trope based on the cover information. I didn’t expect the quality of writing, complex relationships, steamy passion, side friends or the spirituality. I would like to have more time getting to know Taylor and Gwen as a couple but for the story you have to accept they already are intimately friends and have been for a long time. I went into this book without reading too many reviews and I'm quite grateful for that. I picked this up as I was intrigued due to the early reviews. This was quite a different story than I expected, but I'm not sure I completely enjoyed it.
For the first half of the novel, I really liked the novel. Taylor and Gwen were both quirky, interesting characters in their own right, and the romance developed well. I can't help but love a friends-to-lovers romance, and this was a really sweet version. However, there's a plot twist soon after the half way point that kept me engaged due the uniqueness, but also caused a lot of frustration too. I also thought the pace dropped quite drastically, and I had to suspend belief at times.
The execution of the plot twist was done exceptionally well, but I just don't think it was a story that tweaked my interest unfortunately.

For the first half of the novel, I really liked the novel. Taylor and Gwen were both quirky, interesting characters in their own right, and the romance developed well. I can't help but love a friends-to-lovers romance, and this was a really sweet version. However, there's a plot twist soon after the half way point that kept me engaged due the uniqueness, but also caused a lot of frustration too. I also thought the pace dropped quite drastically, and I had to suspend belief at times.

Whoa!! What a ride! A friends to lovers story an auto accident and a loss of memory. Oh! And an old flame! The curves are tight! Taylor is a player and best friends with Gwen. She's also in love with her, and Gwen is in love with Taylor. It takes the wedding of the 3rd bestfriend to finally bring them together. This story is packed full with backstories and angst! A great read! 5 stars!

This read is the second book in the Embracing series. I have not read the first book in the series but I did not feel lost. Gwen Taylor, 37 years old is dealing with her mother leaving her behind at age nine and she has had problems trusting her heart to anyone again. Taylor Matthews, 55 years old, is dealing with whether she wants or needs to settle down with one person. So far the answer is no but could something or someone change her mind. Hummmm...

This is the first book I’ve read by Jeannie Levig, but it definitely won’t be my last. Her writing style and mastery of storytelling is wonderfully inviting. She plants the seeds of anticipation and wonderment in those first few pages and one must see how the story will play out. It’s futile to resist; the promise of a good story is there for the taking. Levig props the door wide open and readers eagerly walk in, ready to nestle themselves inside this splendidly told story.
Embracing the Moon is more than a love story; it’s a journey. Levig tells it with genuine patience, letting readers care about Gwen and Taylor and the trajectory of their journey. At times readers almost ache for them. Levig craftily weaves themes of fear, desperation and love into the pages of this book, supplying it with scenes that fuel a genuine and relatable connectivity for the reader. She does this by handily exposing and manipulating vulnerabilities, and readers respond. She keeps the stakes high, ensuring a real emotional investment. It all works together to supply the perfect ingredients for a well-told story.
Final remarks…
When Gwen and Taylor’s journey is over and they’ve gotten their happily ever after, there’s almost a sense of sadness for the reader. These characters feel like friends and one doesn’t want to part from them. For me, that’s a sign of good storytelling. The author has created characters that one cares about and their journey is worth the price of admission. What more could a reader ask for? The author did her job and the story worked. Embracing the Moon certainly gets high marks there, and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this book or this author.

Oh dear! The only character I had any sympathy with was the nameless redhead in the first chapter who was thrown out of bed mid… Did finish, but not sure why. Sorry.

I read this book fast. It was that kind of story where I found I was just searching for that happily ever after, but I wasn’t one hundred percent sure I would find it. My initial thoughts about Embracing the Moon were that things were happening fast and there was A LOT of sex. I had no idea where the story was heading, but I felt the chemistry between Taylor and Gwen.
And then bam! Everything changed and I spent the next few hours an emotional mess. My heart broke for Taylor, who through her grief became more empathetic, and never let her love for Gwen falter. It was through the friendship circle which made me realize I was missing something, and that there had been a book before this one – It wasn’t a big deal though and I could still easily follow the story as the previous book focused on Jinx and E.J. I really enjoyed these characters and will go back and check out Embracing the Dawn.

This is a fantastic book, following on from Embracing the Dawn, but can be read as a stand alone. Gwen & Taylor are best friends, but are attracted to each other without the other knowing. They eventually take a chance on love and disaster strikes. Really well written storyline, with some small aghast and a HEA. A must read

I have mixed feelings with This one. It started out great (5 stars even) Then with the out of body (that’s why I put in the spoilers) and live after death experience it lost me completely. Then it went full on drama with ex Krista and maybe unplugging. Also to much for me. After that it became interesting and great again when Gwen started to remember. And than the ending was to fast and to soon. So I’m giving it 3 stars.

My first Levig book which caught my attention with its description. I read this as a stand-alone which totally worked out because all characters and relationships were well introduced.
I will catch up on the previous book because I also want more of EJ and Jinx.
As for the MCs in Embracing the Moon I absolutely adored Gewn and Taylor, I'm a big fan of friends to lovers and the first part of the book was incredibly sweet, followed by steamy stuff and mushy feelings.
Apart from the one shower scene (which was horrible) I think the trope was realistically delivered and considering this relationship got established during the first half of the book that's a hats off to the author for not making it feel rushed.
Then there's a turn of events which I don't want to spoil but since it's know from hetero romance books & blockbusters I will mention I loved to see it in a wlw format. It got a bit tough to read after because friendships get tested and another character introduced who I really didn't like but maybe that's a realistic reflection of the hardships in life... I felt for both MCs during those parts and it gave me some serious heartache and I was so very relieved when it all resolved and I got to the HEA.
Overall I'd give this book a 3.7 stars because the writing was absolutely solid and I enjoyed the originality of an unusual storyline setup + Gwen and Taylor were wonderful characters.

Gwen and Taylor have been best friends for over a decade they both been attracted to each other but never act on them. Taylor never really wanted a be in relationship and Gwen doesn’t want to be a one night stand with Taylor. As they prepare for their other best friend EJ wedding feelings starts to come out with the both of them as they move forward from friends to lovers they have to convince not just themselves but their friends that this is a real deal. I enjoy this read.

Embracing the Moon by Jeannie Levig is a beautifully written emotional rollercoaster romance full of drama, love, hate, anger, frustration, abandonment, jealousy and hot sex. This book is a somewhat easy to read page turner.
I started out loving all the characters and could easily relate to their personalities. Gwen Jamison was abandoned by her mother and first love leaving her to think that love with another woman was not possible. Taylor Matthews not wanting a meaningful relationship spends her time picking up different women and then discarding them because she does not want to fall in love. The attraction and heat could be felt between Taylor and Gwen from the beginning. They have been best friends for over ten years and have never given into their mutual attraction until after their best friends Jinx and EJ’s wedding.
I love the way the author slowly builds their relationship. Now that they have given into the attraction, the only thing left to do is tell their best friends. Just as their love affair begins and before they can reveal their relationship status, they are met with a horrible car accident. At this point in the story, I became frustrated because Taylor’s character is called into questioning. I did not read the prequel Embracing the Dawn and wondered if that is the reason it bothered me so, but Levig does a wonderful job introducing the characters, that I think this would bother me either way. I do not want to spoil the ending, but a new character is introduced and things take another turn.
I love that Taylor’s love for Gwen is unconditional. Taylor chooses Gwen’s health and healing above her wants and needs. This is a wonderful love story between women out of their twenties. I recommend this book to anyone that loves good story telling regardless of gender.

Embracing the Moon is a thought provoking romance novel that had a slow build and then with a shocking twist, I truly couldn’t put it down until I finished it! Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books, Inc. for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review. The story follows Gwen and Taylor, two friends exploring their relationship. For the longest time they have just been friends, and then they find themselves exploring a steamy romance that both have wanted to act on, but didn’t want to jeopardize their friendship or anything in their friend circle. Before they can determine what this change in their relationship means, a tragic accident happens and puts everything into question, even their lives. This shocking twist gave rise to many thought provoking questions. What would you do if you feel like you just found the love of your life and an accident nearly takes them away? What do you do when you don’t know if things will ever go back to the way they were? As I continued reading, I learned that putting faith in friendships, and family or chosen family were the answers. Sometimes it also might mean the people you love, and who love you in return, will challenge you as well as support you in hard times, and it will all help you grow, even if there are hard truths. Overall, this book showed that letting love lead will see you through. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about a strong tight knit friend circle with deep connections and a spicy romance too!

Wow, emotional, erotic and full of plot.
The opening grabbed me, it set up the relationship and also the unusual mains.
I was engrossed in this book and when the mains got together wondered how there could still be so much of the novel left. Oh my! The author has me stretched taut! Most romances have a barrier as part of the plot arc. Good authors make it seem insurmountable. Insurmountable seems an understatement here. I have no idea what will happen, and hope the more than two hours reading at just over the half way stage is enough time to do everyone justice. This feels like a few plots in one book, and so far I am enjoying every one of them. The compulsion to keep reading is strong. The pacing was perfect. The plot bumps unexpected therefor as a big a surprise to me as the characters. 5 stars because this book constantly surprised me and it is one of the few I didn’t get irritated by the “does she like me, I can’t think about her that way plot” and even if I did, there were plenty other plots to enjoy!

We had a glimpse of Taylor and Gwen in Embracing the Dawn - which I recommend you read because it’s a great book. Jinx and E.J.’s story, portrayed in ED, play a significant role in Embracing the Moon but I believe the book can be read as standalone. Taylor and Gwen have been friends for a decade. Friendship lines are blurred at the wedding and a blissful few weeks follow. And then fate has a different idea. A great friends to lovers, age-gap romance that is filled with friendship, spirituality, love and passion. An excellently written book, it’s a must read for me.

Silly. The premise and the dialogue were so dumb that I had to stop in my tracks. A disappointing sequel to Embracing the Dawn, which was quite good. Sometimes an author should just stop while they're ahead, instead of going for a contrived sequel.

This was my first Levig book, but it certainly won’t be my last.
I love a good friend to lover romance, it is probably my favourite trope. This one however, had quite the twist. Because I realized that things were coming together a little too early in the book, I knew that something was about to happen. However, how the trauma twist unfolded really took me by surprise. I very much enjoyed the rollercoaster of emotions. I was scared, happy, frustrated, sad and in awe all at once. The devotion, love and growth showed by the characters was wonderful to witness.
The only thing I wish was different is that I would have enjoyed a bit more time with the MCs at the end, but it was brilliant nonetheless. I would absolutely recommend.

I enjoyed reading this book. I think it was written very well. There were a few points in which I raised my eyebrows as high as they would go (I am NOT a spiritual person) but it clicked with the rest of the book so it did not interrupt the overall flow of the book.
Since I do not believe in spiritual stuff, I am a bit biased against supernatural occurrences that supposedly happen in real life. However, I am trying to look past that and judge the book on its merits, and it has quite a few…
The writing is really good for most of the books! Like, really good. Descriptions of views, feelings, development of deeper emotions, characters' arcs, etc. - all of it is done skillfully.
However, as someone who hasn't read the first book in this series, I expected a bit more depth in some of the supporting characters (I felt only Jinx got some real depth). Also, I felt that at least at the start of the book, when the author was playing "catch-up" with the reader to try and give a quick background on the characters, there was a lot of "tell" instead of "show". It felt almost like an info dump at some point.
Having said all that, I still maintain that the writing was really good in the rest of the book. When the sorrow of losing a pet was described I wept like a little girl... It was obviously written by someone who knows what it is to have pets and lose them. I must say, everything that had to do with pets (dogs in this case) was written exceptionally well. It is not an easy task. I often read loving descriptions of pets in books and it does not always lift me off the page and create an image in my mind. This book created the imagery and I got all the feelings that came with it, for good and bad. You can't help but appreciate such a feat.
After finishing the book, I just know that there will be a sequel with Krista (Fire) as an MC and I cannot wait to read it. It's the only thing that bugged me about the ending - that Fire did not receive her proper chance at love despite everything she went through. I'm hoping this "loose end" is just the author laying the ground for her next book :)
Overall, this is a worthy read, interesting and heartfelt :)
