A baker who sees the dead. One too many suitors. And a killer. Living in Honey Hollow can be murder.
*A laugh out loud standalone cozy mystery by New York Times Bestseller Addison Moore* All books in the series can be read individually but are best enjoyed in order.
My name is Lottie Lemon, and I see dead people. Okay, so I rarely see dead people, mostly I see furry creatures of the dearly departed variety, aka dead pets, who have come back from the other side to warn me of their previous owner’s impending doom.
Something terrible has happened. And this time—it’s happened to me. I thought I was headed out to the lodge and the next thing I knew I was in a whole world of trouble. I need help and I need it fast. And if I don’t get out of this one—it will spell out my certain doom.
Lottie Lemon has a brand new bakery to tend to, a budding romance with perhaps one too many suitors, and she has the supernatural ability to see dead pets—which are always harbingers for ominous things to come. Throw in the occasional ghost of the human variety, a string of murders, and her insatiable thirst for justice, and you’ll have more chaos than you know what to do with.
Living in the small town of Honey Hollow can be murder.

I don’t know how much more excitement I can take from this series, just when you think this series is going in one direction, Addison Moore manages to throw something in there and takes it on such a different journey. This time with this book you got to read from both Noah and Essex’s points of view and honestly I loved it as it gave the book that little bit extra that no one was expecting. It was great getting to experience their thoughts, but I would love to see things from their points of view a bit more in future books of this series as honestly it will just up the amazement with this book even more. The one thing I do have to say is that both Noah and Essex need to have their heads banged together so that they realise there’s no point in all the jealousness, the anger, the fights over Lottie as it’s clear she loves them both and would do anything for them, but at the same time she can fight her own battles….. But even still, it would be amazing if all the anger and energy they put into fighting over Lottie, they used their heads and got rid of their exes as for some reason they just can’t say no to them, even though their hearts belong to Lottie. Although, I’m still wanting to know why the hell Cormack is still alive….. She really is driving me insane….. But the part I’m waiting to happen and I’m hoping that Addison does this at some point is put Noah, Lottie and Essex together and they be a couple as a three, it would be amazing, the chemistry is there and the heat from all three would be perfect. I literally can’t fault this book, Addison did an amazing job and has still managed to keep me hooked to the very end.
Noah and Essex are at the Lodge with their exes, but it’s clear that they’re up to something but the fact that they’ve gone there without her, hurts Lottie deeply. Lottie ends up getting kidnapped, but after being missing for a day she is eventually found, but with Lottie trying to get Noah and Essex to listen to her, it’s clear that she’s on her own. With everything being quiet for a week, you’d think that maybe the sprits of the afterlife might be kind to her considering all the murders she’s had to deal with in the last year, but nope life has other ideas and someone in Honey Hollow strikes again. With Noah being harmed during the murder that takes place, will Lottie be able to figure out what connects all the dots? And how well are things for her now that her mom has brought some new friends into her life???
In book 19, Devil's Food Cake Doom, Addison Moore tones down the evil and increases the deception for Lottie, Noah, Everett, the leeches, and fake witch Serena as a PI dies of caffeine poisoning (it's a thing!) and his Doberman, Rex, helps Lottie find the killer. Who is it? Let's just say even PIs make mistakes covering their tracks! Lottie can't be on the case until she escapes the bathroom of the cheap motel room where she's locked in, however. When she unwisely jumped in a car thinking she'd be taken to the lodge where she assumed her men were skiing with the leeches, but realized she wasn't being driven toward the lodge--and saw another black gift bag, the kind the threatening cookies came in, she panicked. (SPOILER) The driver took her to a motel room and saw Lottie running around the room, desperate to find cookies, so she went to the market in the snow and "sprained her ankle". The guys know all this happened because after filing a missing persons report they viewed security footage from the bakery and Noah's house across the street from Lottie's, and the bodyguard they hired identified the car as one he'd seen near the bakery on several occasions. It looks like the car's owner is the sender of the cookies, and when they figure out it's Serena, they (plus their leeches) rush to the hospital, where a strangely cheery Serena greets her former sorority sisters with hugs and squeals, then steadily ignores the guys' questions until Everett demands her address. Then she gives them the motel name and room location. Lottie thinks Serena locked her in the bathroom and has been screaming for help. When she hears Noah's voice, she says she's trapped, but they determine the lock on the door is rusted--it was a kidnapping but not with intent to hold the victim hostage. Serena genuinely feared Lottie was diabetic and would die from low blood sugar. She may have pretended to be a witch and cursed Lottie, but she doesn't wish her harm--and therefore didn't send the cookies. Back at square one, Noah takes Lottie to the largest nearby town, where she catered a detective convention. Noah introduces Lottie to several old friends, and she notices a ghost Doberman with a spiked collar just before 1 of those old friends, Tim, collapses onto her devil's food cake. It appears to be poison, but neither cake nor coffee has any traces of poison--except the small amount of caffeine found naturally in cocoa nibs and coffee beans. Tim, on the other hand, had 300 cups of coffee's worth of caffeine in his system. Noah says it must have been liquid caffeine; it's available but is primarily used by bodybuilders. They have a lead! Tim's ex-wife waitresses at a restaurant, and the 3 of them head there next. She's divorced because she cheated on him with another old friend of Noah's. She's now with Nelson, who hates Tim because the vitamin shop they co-owned failed. Lottie and her men exchange glances. Vitamins! Caffeine! At the B&B Miranda has a second seance, and because it's not haunted, the guests want refunds. NO REFUNDS means nothing to them; most of them got tickets from scalpers, so their refunds would total thousands of dollars. Miranda finally sees what Wiley has gotten her into, so she cancels the seances, returns the tour price to $80, and stops short of applying for a liquor license so Wiley can leave the B&B and search for another widow to charm out of a fortune. In other news, Carlotta has both HH crime families (Canelli and Lazzari) hunting for her bio daughter, and both fail, so neither has to treat the other to a steak dinner. She ropes both of the chiefs into strip poker as a consolation prize, so there's a visual treat for Lottie upon walking into her house! Carlotta also plies Rex with White Russians and screwdrivers, so he's as happy as Rudolph before him! He's also anxious to harm the as-yet-unidentified killer of Tim. When they find Nelson, Rex sits on him and then returns to paradise in a sparkly swirl. Noah takes it from there. They get into Everett's car--and find a black gift bag on the front seat! Clearly, someone else is leaving the threats. The next day, Lottie's birthday, Noah and Everett blindfold her and drive her to a mystery location. Lottie begs to take the blindfold off. They let her, and everyone she knows in HH yells "Surprise!" They've taken her to the lodge she and Everett bought while Noah was in a coma, and which the leeches redecorated on the weekend Lottie thought they were skiing without her. Serena had been spotted leaving a house, and when Lottie looked over the hedge she saw a Veragamo shoebox on the patio. At her party, she sees Cressida wearing the shoes. Cressie sent the cookies! When Noah cuffs her, she says now Everett won't know anything about their child. Everett's reaction tells Lottie the child is real. This is the first Murder in the Mix book to alternate narrators, and I loved knowing the guys' thoughts. Lottie should've known her men weren't leaving her! Highly recommended!
Lottie has a lot going on with finding dead bodies. She has been getting death threats. Noah and Everette have been doing everything possible to protect her even hiring private security at the bakery. But to no avail have they succeeded in finding out who it is. Carlotta her bio mother has strings with the two big mob bosses in Vermont. They have agreed to investigate to find out who is doing this to Lot Lot! It’s also, Lot’s birthday and Noah and Everette have decided to redo parts of the Lodge to surprise her for the big day with family and friends. They use their ex-girlfriends to do so. But the surprise comes with the stalker is there at the party and Everette finds out he is a father.
I kind of feel like this book was a little more about the things going on in Lottie's personal life than it was about the murder she was trying to solve. It was a clever, twisty mystery hiding the villain, but I wasn't terribly surprised by the identity. And, once again, we have an unexpected reveal right at the books closing leaving us hanging on for dear life, waiting to find out what will happen next.
Well, it is time for another murder to be solved. Who is it this time and who will solve it? It is also time to find out who is sending the black and pink cookies? Lottie thinks she is going to the lodge, but someone has other plans for her. If Lottie doesn't get help fast it may be the end of her. Will help get there in time? This is a narrowing escape for Lottie not once but twice. Where will this story go? Read or listen to find out. Love the author.
I used to read a lot of cozy mysteries and now I remember why I stopped reading I they are nice palette cleansers, they tend to be a bit on the cheesy side and just hard to buy in to. I did like this story and the paranormal twist was a nice little addition to the story, even if it didn’t really add anything special to the mystery or figuring out who did it. Just a quick easy read before starting a new month of reading.
I enjoy this series. Lottie had a murder to solve and figure out who is sending her death threats. I like the plot and humor. I like the ghost who assists Lottie. The ending is a good twist.
A pleathera of mystery wrapped up in a comical who dun it. A dash of laughter, a gaggle of ghosts and as many crossroads as on a map describes each book of Ms. Moore's creation.
I loved Rex! And I appreciate the recipe at the end. I think this is the first one I’ve read in this series. I’m not sure how I missed it before, because I really enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this series. Lottie, Everett, Noah, & the rest of the gang make every new story fun to read, while still being creepy. I have only managed to figure out for sure about 30% of the plots so far. And most of those I questioned if I was right.
I love this series and the crazy ad to office always ends up in but she always had her detective and loving Judge by her side! Can't wait to the next book takes us!
Devil’s Food Cake Doom the nineteenth book in the Murder in the Mix Mystery series. This series builds on each other so I would suggest reading them in order to get the most out of it, but you could read them as stand alone if you wanted. Lemon has a gift of seeing dead animal of those who will experience back luck soon, but lately deadly luck. Like all the books in this series, when Lottie sees a ghostly animal she knows death is to follow. But in this book the clues keep leading to the next possible suspect. Not directly leading to the killer. Of coarse Lottie stumbles on to the killer and is able to make sure that they are caught. But while this is all going on Lottie is dealing with the mystery deliveries of the burnt cookies with threats frosted on them, not know what will come next. Not only is Lottie trying to find the killer she is trying to avoid being caught by her stalker. I don’t know what I enjoy more the murder mystery or the love triangle that Lottie found her self in. But one thing is for sure every time I get a new book I can’t wait to jump right in and learn more to the story. But I will say this, each book is better than the last and but I do think this is the best one yet.
Devil's Food Cake Doom is the nineteenth installment of the Murder in the Mix series from Addison Moore who never fails to deliver a romantic roller coaster ride, hilarious antics, and a suspenseful mystery. Town baker Lottie Lemon is once again doomed to stumble upon a dead body without any explanation as to why this keeps happening to her. Using her ever-evolving transmundane abilities and with the help of a ghostly canine, Lottie and friends must hunt for killer among the residents of Honey Hollow without falling victim themselves. Speaking of which, Lottie is still getting confectionary death threats by a mysterious assailant who prefers to remain deviously anonymous. Can the gang solve both mysteries before Lottie falls victim to a cookie catastrophe?
While this is a standalone, I highly recommend reading at least a few of the previous books in the series. Devil's Food Cake Doom is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll fall in love with many of the hunky men surrounding the energetic heroine in this spirited story from a wonderful author.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lottie Lemon is the owner of the Cutie Pie Bakery in Honey Hollow, VT. She sees the ghost pets of the newly departed. This book has several surprises. The author wrote the book so that in several chapters, Everett or Noah, is the narrator. I liked that we were able to see what they thought and felt while they were in the midst of a difficult situation. There are two unrelated mysteries going on. Lottie keeps finding small black bags containing burnt, heart shaped cookies with threatening messages on them. She doesn't know who is leaving them for her and the messages are getting more and more threatening. There's also a murder to try to solve. At an event that Lottie bakes Devil's Food cake for, a person drops dead. Can Lottie solve the murder and keep herself safe from whoever's sending her the cookies? A final unexpected surprise happens at the end. Something that no one sees coming. Looking forward to the next book already!

I can't, and I'm not sure I ever will, get enough of this series. I love the characters, the town, the story plots. Everything is just perfect for my reading tastes. The author has written a series that brings to life some really cool elements, supernatural things that I love to read about. She gives each book a bit of it's own stuff to make each one unique, but still manages to get them all to meld well by keeping a central story theme idea. Which, in my opinion, makes it a perfect series. Honey Hollow is one of those small towns that everyone wants to visits and some dream of living in, without all the dead people, of course. LOL! If the characters were real I would definitely be going after Everett. Noah's a great guy, but there's just something about Everett that draws me to him. Lottie is a great female characters and I really enjoy reading about the sticky situations she continually manages to get herself into. Devil's Food Cake Doom is the perfect blend to this series and I look forward to reading many more stories about the Honey Hollow gang.
Besides getting herself (kind of) kidnapped and witnessing yet another murderer she has to solve while dealing with a nasty hex cast by a girl who calls herself a witch, and maybe starting a mob war in Honey Hollow, things are just fine and dandy for the baker and her ghostly friend from the other side, Rex. Rex is a man’s man kind of... dog? Well, a man’s best friend. You get my point! This murder isn’t just any ordinary murder, it’s one that hits close to home. A nearly-retired investigator is poisoned and it’s up to Lottie to figure this out before she gets caught in the crosshairs of this twisted murderer. Addison Moore had me dumbfounded as to who it was and when I found out who did the dirty deed, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Addison Moore has ensnared me once again. A wonderful, suspenseful, and funny read with some extra goodies added. Besides the devilish chocolate cake Addison makes you crave we have two new POVs from Everett and Noah.
Lottie finds herself in quite the predicament in the beginning of this book. I was quite unsure how she could be so dense. I liked how we finally got Noah and Everett's perspectives and would like a bit more of that. The book did get redundant in how many times it referred to known facts over and over again. Rex was interesting, but didn't really add much to the story. The murder mystery was kind of ho-hum to me and I was hoping for more action as far as the murder mystery went. I find both Noah and Everett lacking common sense to let the blonde bimbos continue to be in their lives. I am interested to see how the ending plays out for Everett. I still like the series but would like to see more movement in Lottie's personal life.
I really loved this book. It was so fun to have this book that was from Noha and Everett's point of view. You learn so much more about what they are thinking and feeling. More so then what you do in the rest of the books in the series. Of course, Lottie is getting herself into trouble while trying to solve a murder yet again. She always seems to solve it but gets herself into a little bit of an issue as she is doing it.
You can read this is a stand-alone but I don't know why you would because you will be missing so much of Lottie and the gang that you should really read them all.

This series is completely addicting, and this one may just be one of my favorites so far! Lottie is a force to be reckoned with she runs a baker, can talk to ghosts, and has a knack for solving murders. She can’t do that alone though. With the help of the two men in her life along with her family and friends, she takes us on a murder solving mystery. Addison writes a world full of old friends, laughs, interesting dearly departed, and puzzles at each interrogation. Each book can be read as a stand alone but I highly suggest you go back and pick up book one. This way you get the full impact of the characters relationships and can absorb your self into the Honey Hallow universe.
Another fun installment in the Murder in the Mix series.
Lottie is dealing with her ever-evolving power of seeing the dead, and she's always surrounded by murder. This entire series is fun and fanciful, and the love triangle among Lottie, Noah and Everett is great fun to follow.
In this book, we finally get to see some of Noah and Everett's perspectives, which is fun to read, too.
Each of these books have a stand-alone mystery, so from that perspective you can read each independently, but you are much better off reading the entire series. They are all available in Kindle Unlimited, and they are all quick, fun reads.
Every time! Addison Moore is my hero. I really don't know how she whips up these books in no time flat! Each and every time, I am completely sucked in and fall in love with the characters. The Murder in the Mix series has become a favorite of mine! I absolutely love Lottie, Essex, and Noah. Of course another murder happens and Lottie is right in the middle of it. Lottie, Essex, and Noah are in quite the love triangle. I am still hoping and holding out for Lottie to be with both Essex and Noah! Sorry ... Not Sorry, but I cant decide between the two and Lottie loves them both. I am really interested to find out what happens.
Lottie had been kidnapped or she may have just gotten stuck in the bathroom in a seedy motel in Leeds. Either was she is more than happy when Noah and Everett come to her rescue. Now if only they could find out who has been sending the threats with those darn black cookies. There's been another murder in Honey Hallow. It happened in a room full of cops and detectives and it still takes Lottie Lemon to figure out who dun it! I just love going along on all of her adventures. Between Lottie's crime solving and her quirky love triangle I am always entertained!
I Love This series, but I am more than ready for some resolution regarding the Lottie, Everett, Noah triangle. I feel the situation is not fair to Everett, but in truth all three are in flux. Something has to give. The triangle is even overshadowing the mysteries now. And I am flabbergasted that Lottie was not livid that Noah brought in Cormach to do some interior decorating of the trio's lodge. What???? Ok, maybe I am a little too invested in the characters. Truth be told I would be happy if they all just settled into a happy menage.
