Discover a crime thriller full of shocking twists by one of the most exciting new authors you’ll read this year.
YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE. YOU CAN NEVER HIDE.
Albert Tanner, vicious psychopath and burner of men, is in the USA with unfinished business. Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson and Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks must find him first.
Their task is straightforward: hunt Tanner down and bring him home. But a few explosions, an assassin and a dead child changes everything. Dragged into a sordid world of high class sex parties they discover an Albert Tanner they never knew existed. Then a child is snatched from her own bed and Tanner wants to do a deal. And the price is far too high. Paterson and Clocks realise they have no choice but to hunt Tanner down their own way.
A RACE-AGAINST-TIME THRILLER WHICH WILL KEEP YOU TOTALLY ADDICTED.
This is the fourth in a series of action-packed, edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers, with an ending that will have your heart in your mouth.
Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson is a young and (thanks to family money) wealthy womaniser, separated from his model wife and tipped to be the youngest ever commissioner of police. He knows he’s weak when it comes to practical policing and struggles to find a place among his peers, desperate to be a good policeman and not just a 'climber'. Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks is a foul-mouthed, working-class officer. He grew up surrounded by rogues and villains to become a first-class thief taker with the Met police. However, his childish attitude has short-circuited his career and he spends his days antagonising as many people as he can.
Al et Tanner is a vicious psychopath. He's got unfinished business in USA. DS Ray Paterson and DI Johnny Clocks must hunt him down and bring him home. But a few events get in their way. Dragged into a world of high class sex parties, they discover an Albert Tanner they never knew existed.
There is a lot going on in this book. Paterson and Clocks are working with the FBI to try and find Tanner and take him back to the UK. The book is fast paced and gripping from the first page. I don't think it's an edge of your seat read, but it will keep you turning the pages, wanting to find out more. This is quite a good series.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Joffe Books and the author Steve Parker for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
DS Ray Patterson, along with DI Johnny Clocks, Inspector Lyndsey Mullins and Wallace Young, former Commissioner of Police have landed at the New York City airport, planning to meet a couple of FBI agents. Their job is to track down Albert Tanner. He is a dangerous, savage psychopath who likes to play with fire.
Much to their distress, they learn that Tanner is somehow connect to a recent series of child deaths.
Paterson and his team feel they are being suffocated and prevented from going after Tanner themselves. But when a tragedy happens to an FBI agent, they decide to ignore the rules of the FBI and go it alone.
There are explosions, murder, high class men's parties where all the attendees are not men ..and are not adults.
This is a well written crime thriller with lots of action beginning with the very first page. The suspense maintains a solid pace until the very end. There is a slight cliffhanger involved, just enough to whet the reader's appetite for more.
The characters are finely drawn and I really like seeing how they all relate to each other. Paterson is the quiet, somber leader of the group of detectives. Clocks is the humor ..an adult going on 12. There's the language barrier, which Clocks uses to his advantage and drives the American agents crazy ... and thank goodness for the explanations of those words or expressions.
Many thanks to the author / Joffe Books / Book n All Book Promotions / Netgalley for the advanced copy of this crime fiction/thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
You Can't Hide picks up nicely from the events of The Burning Men and as much as it can be enjoyed aas a standalone, I'd advise to read the series in the order. There's a lot of character development, background stories that I feel are really important to the overall reading experience of paterson and Clocks books. The book starts off with a bang and it doesn't let off. Gripping, tense, it's a thrilling read. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading more from Steve Parker.
Once more we hit the ground running in this, the fourth book featuring Superintendent Ray Paterson and his team from London. Paterson is young, extremely wealthy and until recently was on a fast track to the top, whilst DI Johnny Clocks (nicknamed Timex or Thrush) is the complete opposite, loud-mouthed and brash having come up through the ranks but a loyal friend for life if he decides he likes you. I love the pair of them! I mean, who cares if they are a little more "Sweeney" than "pc" and their language is a bit colourful? After all, in the areas they operate the police need to have a bit more about them than sticking rigidly to every rule. In this story they are landing at JFK Airport, together with the great addition of Clocks' girlfriend DI Lyndsey Mullins and former Police Commissioner Wallace Young. They are joining up with the FBI to hunt down and return to London the escaped psychopathic criminal Albert Tanner, the "burning man" from previous stories who has fled to the USA. It seems he has contacts and funds available, and is carrying out an agenda of his own. What at first seemed like a straightforward job quickly becomes a nightmare for the team as Tanner stalks them, leaving a trail of bombs and burnings, and leading them into the murky world of high class sex parties with a very nasty menu on offer. As more attempts to catch Tanner are unsuccessful, it becomes clear the team will have to do things their way if they are to catch their vicious nemesis. The pace is great with loads of action, and this really is a book that kept me hooked till the last page. Clocks and Paterson make a great team. There is a lot of humorous banter between the two, making the book fun at the same time as tacking deadly serious crimes. It's not surprising that the events of the first three stories have shaped Paterson and Clocks into the men they are now, and this story expands on that further. If you haven't, I urge you to read the rest of the series first. There is a lot of history and although it is well described in this book and it can be enjoyed as a standalone it wouldn't be the same reading them out of order. Highly recommended and with a great cliff-hanger at the end which left me begging for the next book soon!
Paterson and Clocks are back so settle down and be ready for an adrenaline pumping read.
This is book 4 and although the books work as stand-alone you will enjoy it more if you read them in sequence. Unique characters and engaging story lines with twists and turns all the way through make for an intense page turner that I highly recommend for readers who like dark thrillers.
Paterson is a wealthy upper class Detective Superintendent who rose through the ranks via a fast track system. Clocks in contrast is a working class Londoner who has made detective by climbing the ranks as a result of hard work. In book one the two clashed each resenting the other Clocks thought Paterson a 'posh git' and Paterson thought Clocks uncouth and tactless. They have developed their relationship from resenting each other to a very effective working partnership each having the other's back 100%.
The story begins as they board a plane to New York chasing Albert Tanner following a turf war in book 3. Clocks had me laughing before he had got off the plane. They arrive at JFK airport and the action starts with a chase followed by explosions. It is game on and everyone is in danger.
Will they catch Tanner or lose their lives? You will have to read the book to find out. What I can tell you is that this is an absolutely gripping read that I couldn't put down and I doubt you will be able to either.
This book is the 4th in the series and you can read it without the others, but, in order to fully appreciate the characters and the flow of the story I would say read them in order. I thought it a solid storyline and with the drama expected from Patterson and Clocks. I thought the characters were that fully developed and of a depth you can almost think you know them as real people. I loved the humour of Clock's, the down to earth, working class officer who has seen it all and done it all! I look forward to the next Steve Parker book with anticipation!
This is the fourth in the Paterson and Clocks series from Steve Parker and I would recommend reading the first three in order to be able to enjoy this one to the full. Paterson and Clocks arrive in America, chasing Albert Tanner, the major criminal who has eluded them through the first three books. I love the character of Tanner with his theatrical dressing-up and his false eye, which he changes to fit the situation he is in. I love the idea of his ruby eye! Because of the work of Paterson and Clocks, Tanner's business empire has been radically reduced and he is in America to rebuild his fortune and get his daughter back from another criminal. Paterson and Clocks are met at the airport by a series of explosions which bring the American Homeland security into the book as they work to rid their country of terrorism. The FBI also join in, so Clocks and Tanner have to follow other security services' rules, which doesn't suit them at all. From then on, this book is about the chase of Albert Tanner, who manages to escape them far too many times. The chases are exciting and Clock's attempts to bamboozle the Americans can be funny, although I did get a bit irritated with them as they went on for so long. There is a cliffhanger at the end which presumably will be explained in the next book. It isn't my favourite Steve Parker book but that may be because I find the American police system very confusing. It IS a rip-roaring ride which keeps the reader turning page after page to find out what happens next.
D.S. Ray Paterson and D.I Johnny Clocks. Their aim is to track down Albert Tanner. But a child is involved with a deal from Tanner. Its a race against time for these guys. I just couldn't put it down. It's was so good. It's action packed and I loved the character Clocks with a good sense of humour. It's definitely a must read to all thriller readers. The story keeps you in suspense and that's what I like from the author's when reading thrillers. Well deserved star's from me
'This is the first time that i have read a book by Steve Parker. This book had me turning the pages from start to finish, with plenty of twists and turns. Despite this being book 4 in a series, it really didn't matter. Fortunately i belong to Kindle Unlimited and will be able to read the other books in this series. Recommended.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publishers for my copy. This is my honest review, freely given.
First of I’d like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book I’ve read written by the names author and I highly doubt it will be my last. This book kept my attention, from the start; left me in suspense right until the end. Definitely on the dark side with a dash of humour, which I can only imagine would be challenging, considering the books plot. Now to hunt for more novels written by Steve Parker.
This book was my first Steve Parker book and I enjoyed it! It was a good thriller and fast paced. This book is not the first book in the series I learned. But I still enjoyed it very much. Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson and Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks were good characters and I enjoyed the story enough I will probably go back and start at the beginning of this series. *This book was given to me for free at my request from Netgalley and I provided this voluntary review.*
The hunt for paedophile and murderer Albert Tanner takes Patterson & Clocks to America, accompanied by Lyndsey & Wallace - Clocks policewoman girlfriend and former Chief of the British Police Force respectively. Tanner greets them with exploding waste bins at JFK. The FBI who are liasing with the British officers, immediately call it a terrorist attackb whereas Patterson & Clocks try to explain it was a greeting for the brits from Tanner. It seems that Ruby, Tanner's daughter has been running the American side of the kiddie porn and prostitution business. Including exclusive clubs, where children can be ordered to clients specifications. It caters for all perversions and tastes - murder of said children is allowed if the customer wishes to finish his session that way. The more the brits learn the angrier they become, and although there are casualties on each side, Tanner seems to escape unscathed every time. A good read.
WOW, WOW, WOW, what a book, so very exciting I couldn’t wait to read the next page and stayed up passed midnight to read more. These two English detectives chase a villain to the states, he is a nasty piece of work and has to be caught and brought back to London, but he escapes, again and again, gets up to really dreadful things, he really is a nasty character and that is putting it mildly. If you like the edge of your seat stories with a tiny bit of romance and two detectives that are great pals then this is the book for you. So far I have read five books in this series, but they can be read alone if one so wishes, each one has me stuck to my armchair reading avidly and each and everyone have been a superb read, so please do give Patterson and Clocks a read, you really won’t be disappointed.
I liked the first book of this series very much, but they have been getting successively more unrealistic and unpleasant. In this, the fourth book of the series, Paterson and Clocks are so out of control that I could barely suspend my disbelief that they are still (supposedly) serving police officers. Equally as annoying is Clocks speech patterns, which I know are deliberately designed to irritate people and get them to underestimate him but really, I think high level FBI people (and we, the readers) don't need constant translations. There is little police work or suspense in this book, simply a question of whether they capture their arch nemesis Albert Tanner dead or alive.
Man! This was an edge of your seat novel! Scary as hell. One of the scariest villains I've read about in a long time. Read with the light on. Ray and John outdid themselves, handled EVERYTHING right. These guys are my definition of The Dynamic Duo, courageous, smart, compassion..they get the job done! WOW what a novel!
I really enjoy the stories of Patterson and Clocks and whilst pushing the credibility of their escapades somewhat, I am hooked on the humour albeit with somewhat violent episodes I look forward to the next.
Another one, this time, they come to the US. A UK killer, burner of children and others, is in the US also. Lots of action. Especially like, the glossary in the back, with British words. Most I could figure out, but it proved helpful.
I can't say enough about this series from Steve Parker. I absolutely love the detectives. Clocks is horrible but so lovable. Patterson is so complicated and again you just live them. Their rule breaking way of catching these killers always makes you root for them.
