Review:

The below may have some spoilers so if you have not read
Destiny Awakened: Destiny Series: Book 1 (“Book 1”)
at this point, read at your own risk.

The story continues to where Book 1 left readers…in a big emotional mess. Pure carnage and chaos all around outside the Academy! Aria, a human with special powers, was able to transform herself into her “true being” in the magical realm just in time to save as many students from the attaching demons.
Her mates – Kyle, Liam, Sykes – and the rest of the Elite Team were able to hold off as much as the could to flee the Academy as it was burnt to the ground by the surprise attack. The remaining group of survivors – wounded students, Elite Team, and staff had to split up with Aria so that she can try to hold off as many demons as they trek to the safety of her mates' home. They left the Academy fast from the demons coming into the school to the woods and later, found refuge in a cave where the rest of the survivors rested as they waited for reinforcements with new characters, Wyatt, second of the Prime Alpha and later Kyle’ father, Marcus, who is Prime Alpha of the pack.

Marcus is the Prime Alpha who ruled over the shifters packs. He is the father of Kyle and is as arrogant and stubborn as who he thinks would be the fated mate for his son. Wyatt is Marcus’ right-hand man and will support Marcus even if inside, he is starting to have doubts about Marcus’ leadership with caring the pack towards a war. They have a strained relationship but Wyatt’s loyalty will be with the Prime Alpha even if he is fond of Kyle and Aria. The hierarchy of the pack isn’t something he would ignore and treats Aria full of hate and discriminatory.

As Aria grows stronger and discovers herself, her inner powers, and her destiny from a “seer”, there is the growing imminent threat looming the magical realm signaled by the appearance of the demons that infiltrated their world that the younger generation knows they cannot ignore and hide from, unlike what their older generations were doing – separating themselves.

The characters’ progression was great! I believe C.J. really thought of the plot and characters way before she even wrote the first book since the flow and transitions are intricate, calculated but seamless.

Book 1 was all about Aria learning about her powers and trusting new people around her as she learns more about herself, and finding her purpose in the new realm.
This book has good plot development but also focuses on the characters as they explore inside themselves and their potential. This evolution happens organically through each experience that they go through individually and as a pack. It’s an amazing sight because there were subtle hints in previous chapters then creeps up on you till it unfolds to surprise readers. I enjoyed this path to self-discovery, which C.J. is good at pulling out in her bag of author arsenal.

Some points I liked specifically are:
(a) Aria saw “mystic” to guide her, which was a good idea. At first, I was hesitant to have Aria be “seen” because it would make her a target and be “used”. It somehow turned out well since it became clearer why she was fated to be in this realm. Aria’s training in the human world brought her to this world when they needed her the most – to save a world that she still is trying to understand and get the hang of. Given this though, a lot of what Aria has to go through are all pushed to her with no choice – being “moved” to a new realm, having to adjust to new people and “rules” plus now, to a fated destiny of why she was there and what she needs to do, to save the world that she’s trying to make a home in. I felt the heavy burden placed on her by everyone, some not worthy of her insight and help. I do like how she’s taking everything in strides when she could just be angry or not care. She instead tries to look and push past the “haters” and help the people she loves and depends on her.

(b) The funeral service of their friend was one that really got to me. She had so much potential and the first true friend for Aria but did not last long in to get to this book. The bond that she forged was strong, even the briefness of the relationship. I remember shedding a tear or two for the fallen warrior and dear friend of the pack. It was a very beautiful funeral, filled with honor, love, and hope that a warrior’s journey continues in the next life…and Aria had a hand to it. Love it!!! Please take the time to read this part and savor it. I know I reflected on what happened and it will serve a guide to how the story will be shaping.
This isn’t a sad time. Britt had a short life but she shone brightly in it. She died a warrior and now she will pass on to the next life.
— Margie, Destiny Rising

(c) There are “secrets” surrounding Marcus and Wyatt that runs deep that I had trouble understanding until Aria mentioned it later in the book. This secret runs deep and is the only reason the dynamics between them exists. It’s a frustrating secret but I understand that it’s a way to help the story be a convincing one. It was sad to learn what Marcus had to go through to become the Prime Alpha but it also showed what Wyatt lost and had to go through to keep the peace or something safe.

(d) Alliances are being formed as Aria and the pack trek to fulfill her destiny – to find her kind, learn from them, build an army to save the realm…quoting Aria, “No pressure”. It’s a big responsibility for a short deadline but I liked how Aria approach everything – cool, calm, logical (most of the time), and in the end, she discovers that her strength although comes from within her, it’s the people around her that makes her become the best version of what she is to save them all.
Like the final battle was going to be inevitable, and, unfortunately, Aria was going to be our only hope. Yet again, another problem that we would just be throwing Aria at and hoping that she could fix for us.
— Dominic, Destiny Rising

(e) The POV is still multiple but the majority is still with Aria. Given those small peeks into the heads of the pack and their thoughts, readers will see the conflicting beliefs of the old versus the new generation between mystical groups. The newer ones wanted a change that goes against their group order without realizing that without the other groups, none of them would survive the war.
Also, the love shown between Aria and her mates are is clear as day in this book even more. It is said in words and thoughts as they all started to bond with each other beyond the physical. I believe it’s more spiritual at this point. The love scenes are a lot about connection and true love – MF or MM or all four of them. It’s more of a high level than the usual harem that I have encountered and I really am growing to understand it better each day.
I will love you each and every day, for the rest of my life.
— Kyle, Destiny Rising

The book shows more battles/fighting, more new characters to meet, and more information about the mystical realm as Aria finds a way to raise an army. The fight scenes were epic especially the end! (Think about 4 big giant demons against Aria, a thin, fit woman…what are the odds?) Readers will be grateful for the slow moments of reflection as Aria matures in her thoughts, her powers, and her mates. Her interactions with her mates and some new cast of characters will surprise you in the end. They all contribute to making her braver to take on her fate.

I highly recommend this book to readers who like reading about fantasy, quests, and brave heroes. This book will bring you to the edge of your seats each time since Aria had to find the answers fast enough to get back to save everyone. The ending was spectacular! After Book 1, I did not I would be more surprised until the very last paragraph to end in a cliffhanger – super duper awesome!
Find the magic, raise the army…

What a roller coaster of a book!
And the end of the book leaves you breathless! I have truly become a fangirl of CJ Cooke!
Aria is one hell of a character where I just can't get enough of her story.
The plot is tight and characters are solid. There were a couple of noooo way moments too where I was just hanging on. If you have kids wait til their occupied before you read cos I swear I had a couple of moments where I was that engrossed I nearly growled at them 😂🤣

Loved it! I love the story building and living through the characters. It kept you on your toes and always wanting to know what was going to happen next. Very suspenseful. I could not put this book down and wanted more of Aria and her mates. Her Elite team is bad ass as well and i loved everything about this book. So amazing. A definite must read.

Good paranormal read!

Destiny Rising is the second book in the Destiny Series. This is a paranormal/fantasy RH with shifters, weres, Fae, Valerie and more.

The book does need some editing, but please don't let that out you off. I found the story to be interesting - it kept me fully engaged throughout, with likeable characters (and some you hope the author will kill off in some spectacular way!) plenty of steamy scenes, and an ending that leaves you wanting more. Looking forward to reading the next one!

Wow just wow! Book 2 and Aria truly had me go through all of the emotions! I'm not ashamed to admit that the first part of the book had me in tears. From then on my heart raced with the brilliant steaminess and the epic thrills. Definitely a series I can't and won't be putting down. There were a few spelling mistakes that have been missed however this did nothing to spoil my flow of reading. This series so far is highly recommended.

Book 1 and 2 are just captivating from the very start and I can’t wait to read what happens next with Aria and her fated mates.

Another good installment

4 stars though I wish the plot progressed a bit faster.

The plot which entails a journey I wish was a little faster and we got to the place Aria needed to be before the end of the book. But SO MUCH happens in such a small span of time. We add another mate, none of the ones I mentioned in my previous review though. We find out new information and have some fun and also grief and sadness too. There were still a few typos and weirdly worded sentences that could use some changes but still overall I really enjoyable addition to the series.

Really great!

I love the story and the way it is evolving. I feel constantly surprised by how we move forward. I'm also very pleased with how naturally the mates bond and mesh, no personality changes like you sometimes see in RH. Its consistent and so well-written.

Holy Squrriels

The fast-pace doesn’t stutter as we leap into this second installment. So much ground is covered and goes in unexpected directions while keeping you glued to the story. The relationships develop a bit more along with some surprises along the way.
We finally find out what Aria is, but the twists are still popping up and I’m excited to see the mythology for the world!

“ I had suddenly found myself in the middle of a wolf sandwich and I loved it”- Aria
Book two picks right up where we left off and boy what a ride so far. Now we know for sure what Aria is and her and her mates are on the quest to save the world.. they have to find the other Valkyrie and learn her powers. She doesn’t have a lot of time and someone is opening the portal to let the demons in. I have my suspicions but I have wait til book three to find out .. the prime alpha definitely doesn’t like her and he wants her gone.. and she may have more mates.
Things are really heating up in this books.. some seriously hot sex scenes and mm which I always love..
Will she get to her people in time and will they except her? Find out in this thrilling continuation..
This is definitely the perfect read for today ! Read it and tell me what you think. Thank you Catherine!

Yummy

So much happens in the second book! Aria becomes stronger and her relationships are tested. There are a lot of shady people and it’s hard to know who to trust, who is good and who is hiding secrets. We meet a lot of new characters. It of course ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you with your mouth gaping! Multiple POVS. MM. Steamy. I’m curious to see how Caleb will continue to be in the story. He gets his own chapters and to me that usually means harem contender... 🤔 I did miss the Elite training together and the girl friendships. The prime alpha is a huge douche canoe. Della is still a mean girl. Fast paced. Excited to see how the story goes. Very interesting.

The last book had left me feeling all kinds of feels, so I was excited for this book to put my heart back together. We get to feel the emotions of the characters and get to know them more as they set out on some epic quest. One of my favorite parts was the giant squirrels! I want one for myself!

The ending leaves you screaming and wanting more as the whole book took you on an epic ride. The book is opening up things that are blowing my mind as I hadn't expected the world to be that intricate. It's incredible world-building and I can't wait for more. It has some hot MM, med-high burn, multiple POV's, epicness, and kickass characters.

After being so let down by the last paranormal series I read, I needed a decent one. I found this on KU and was pleased enough. This is a review for the series as a whole.

In a world where darkness lurks at every corner, Aria has always been a fighter. But when she's abruptly thrust into a realm of magic and mystery, she must confront the shadows of her own past like never before. The "Destiny" series weaves a tale of paranormal intrigue and romance, where one woman's journey to self-acceptance collides with the tumultuous forces of fate.

Forcibly enrolled in an Academy designed to hone her supernatural abilities, Aria encounters three enigmatic werewolf mates who ignite passions she never knew existed. Yet, amidst the allure of newfound love, danger looms ominously. Demons descend upon the Academy, leaving destruction in their wake and shattering Aria's newfound world.

As she grapples with the chaos surrounding her, Aria must navigate treacherous alliances and confront her deepest fears to survive. Will she embrace her destiny and harness her powers to vanquish the darkness threatening her newfound family? This trilogy of love, magic, and secrets intertwine as Aria embarks on a journey of self-discovery where the fate of worlds hang in the balance.

Aria is a badass. Yet she’s still vulnerable and finding her way. She has a strong moral code and beliefs that she sticks to. She wants to raise other people up so they can overcome just like she has. Her mates at first want to protect her, but they have to learn to live with the fact she doesn’t need rescuing. The storyline through the whole series is well paced and thought out. I wish the romance and spicy scenes could say the same.

I liked her mates, mostly. There’s nothing wrong with them, more like they were just there, kinda like sidekicks. I think I felt the romance and relationship building needed work. In book 1 & 2 which are short, everything feels rushed, there’s no time realistically to build those relationships. Even in book 3 which is the longest, there was no down time for it. So if you’re not into insta-love you might want to skip this.

Onto positives, the action and battle scenes were good. Although I felt cheated in the last battle scene with the way it ended, not a bad ending, just meh. I was surprised by what Aria turned out to be and her parentage. I thought the author was going in a different direction, again not bad, just different. I loved her elites and the effects they had throughout the series. Although I liked Aria and her story, I didn’t feel compelled to continue to the next books that were about characters we’d met.

Rating: 3/5 **Spoilers ahead in the review**

Ok, so this was definitely a let-down from book 1. In my review of that novel, I'd said this series had high potential. I still think that, but I think the direction this story is taking is ruining that. This is now the second time Aria is just awakening to new powers at the end of the book. I'm going to need an explanation for all this soon. I am certain a lot of this will be revealed in book 3, so this book is just suffering from being the middle of the series.

The addition of Virion to the mating bond is weird. The fact that Aria questioned it so strongly makes it doubly weird. Is this going to be a regular occurrence now? Remember this is a world where a mating bond between species is unheard of. Now it's happening twice? And again, we are stuck with a male member of her harem whose story and purpose in life we never really hear. I known 4 member harems are pretty standard. But it's still weird that this is happening again so soon with so little romance or planning from either side. The two just lock eyes and decide to change their lives forever.

I'm glad the demons are beginning to gain sentience. I need to hear about their plans and their motivations soon. At the moment they just seem like random mobs you would go around fighting in a game. I need the demons to pose a serious challenge to Aria's powers.

Overall, I felt this was a weak book. The strongest part of the story was the part in the packland when Aria is facing Malcolm, the pack alpha. Again, this is more because Aria gets her character development here rather than anything else. The male MCs are finally begin to get some character development, especially Kyle.

I am still motivated to read on. That's saying something, I guess? This review isn't helpful or anything I guess. I just wanted to add some background for anybody who might have read my previous review.

Gripping Series!

Fast Paced and Action Packed

I first found this author with her new Stoneridge Pack series, which I absolutely devoured. I next proceeded to happily skip off to see what else she had written and found my way to this series. Book one introduces us to Aria who is a snarky, funny, kickass fmc. Aria was raised on the human plane and is abruptly thrust into the Shifter realm where she learns she is so much more than she thought. She is much more than everyone thought.

I really enjoyed Aria as an fmc. She is funny and owns who she is as an individual. Her mates are loving and supportive and enthralled by her. As a core group they are delicious to watch.

Book two continues the saga with escalating mystery and suspense. Aria and her mates are experiencing an unexpected increase in their powers and learn that she may have additional mates that she needs to find to help her balance her powers.

The writing is on point and the characters and world are well fleshed out. This is a series that will likely hold your attention and keep you locked in your seat for the whole ride.

Entertaining

This series is entertaining. It has a solid plot, worldbuilding, action, and steamy sex scenes. However, there are few things that keep it from being a 5-star read. First, the characters are pretty simple. This means the villains have no redeeming features which makes them predictable in their plots and actions. It also means that Aria and her guys are also pretty vanilla. Everyone is super easy going and no one seems to have any unique personality traits or flaws. The relationship is just over the line from instalove, which is generally pretty boring. There are no conflicts which also means there is no growth. Manufacturing intimacy through a bond cannot compensate for relationship and character building.

While Aria and the guys grow in power, it also doesn't feel like there is much character development happening to match that growth. Which brings to point #2. Aria is too overpowered and there are too many inconsistencies with her supposed background as a tough orphan turned badass. I've seen this storyline so many times so it has to be done well to stand out. She is waaay too trusting of Kyle and the guys when she meets them for someone who is wary of men. Plus, while she is physically in shape and on her game, she is way off her game in terms of knowledge. Her and the guys are all first-year students which means they should not know anything about anything. It can make it hard to take them seriously sometimes especially Aria's guys.

Jammed backed story!

This series literally keeps getting better and better! There are so many twist and turns which makes this story so fun to read. It sucks you in so fast that it's hard to put it back down. I absolutely love Aria and her mates and how strong their connection is becoming. I really love her connection with Kyle the best. He would literally do anything for her and when faced with a tuff obstacle himself. The way he does anything for her and stands up for her. Ughhh I was smiling from ear to ear. Their relationship is the best! Aria's strength and resilience through this book is so fun to read and her having her tuff moments when she is trying to be strong and hold it together makes her so much more relatable. I like that she isn't a damsel in distress. And ohhh the twist towards the end!! 🥰 I was not expecting that at all but actually loved it! I am curious if she will have more and am really excited to read what happens next! 10/10 book for sure!!

so good!

This is such an interesting series. I read book one and two in a single day and was so entertained by the storyline. It has some refreshingly original ideas for paranormal lore. I enjoyed the plot surrounding finding out what Aria actually was and how strong she is physically, the only annoyance is that insistence authors have of making their heroine question every little action the men have being a slight on their feeling for her. But it wasn’t too dominant in the story so I’ll forgive it in this book.
The instalove aspect wasn’t too sappy and her quick journey to discovering fated mates and what that means for her was cleanly done. I even liked the introduction of the potential for additional mates while on their travels.
All in all this is an enjoyable series and one I will gladly continue reading!

Wow!

This book keeps getting better! Yes it started out as academy themed but it didn’t stay academy themed. In this second book, it shows the aftermath of the massive fight, CJ Cooke flawlessly writes sorrow filled emotions due to the grief of losing someone, travelling to pack lands and learning what a douch canoe Kyle’s father/Alpha is. The sex scenes were delicious. There’s plenty more in this book, and very little MM. I personally prefer non, but it wasn’t much so it didn’t detract from the books focus on the fmc. Turns out she is someone truly special if the last words in this book is true, more than anyone could guess. Lol I can’t wait to see the look on Marcus’s face when he realizes what an idiot he is when he learns who he threatened to kill. Can’t wait to read the next book!

Im hooked.

I love the Valkyrie trope and her being the badass bitch she is.

liked the addition of another mate but I hope there’s more development in the actual and new characters.

Im a little confused with the order and amount of books in this series or if they’re spinoffs and if they’re necessary to read. But I hope it’s just three books and this is a finished series if not Im going to have to wait until January for not being smart enough and check if this was already finished.

The cliffhangers on this books are not exactly life or death but they’re the perfect amount of cliff to keep me hanging and make me start the next book.

This series is starting to get a little repetitive and generic but Im not picky so Im still enjoying it.

Wow this book was a wild ride. Marcus is not only a terrible Prime Alpha but a terrible human being. I’m surprised Kyle is a total douche since his dad is so bad. I like Wyatt and Caleb. They are friends, even though Wyatt has his struggles he is a good person. I was shocked that Virion is a fae prince and also a new mate. I’m wondering if she is going to have more…and how many? I think it’s cool that their bond is strong enough that they can mind speak. So they get to Vallhalla and apparently she is the Phoenix General..//

Rating books 1-5 together - have to wait for a month for book 6 to be released :( normally my limit is 4 books in a series, otherwise I find they get repetitive. But they did such a great job with this series. Books 1-3 are one main storyline. And then we get another storyline with both books 4 and 5. Bring in past characters we love into the main story while still touching on past favorite characters. This was a page turner that for sure made me loose some sleep because I had hard time putting them down.
