The first Alice and Megan book I read was Alice To The Rescue, which was the last book only I didn't know. I was 10 and in Fourth Class when I picked this one up after devouring Alice To The Rescue. I wanted to start from the beginning.
I have to say it. I LOVED these books. I found them so relatable. It was as if I was Megan!
OK, that's an exaggeration, I'm not a 12 year old girl living with a very strict hippyish mother and father that plays along with it nor a girl with one best friend who is devasted by her parents divorce.
What I mean to say is, I felt Megan was so very relatable. Her emotions, feelings and thoughts felt identical to mine. I just loved those books. Alice reminded me of best friend in primary school and the sort of things we got up to.
Three years ago I would have given this book 5 stars, easily, but now I feel I'll have to give it 4.
Why?
Because looking back on it, Alice and Megan did not act like 12 year old girls in Sixth Class and First Year, because:

1. There is zero discussion of puberty and let's he honest here, what pre or early teens do NOT talk or think about it?
2. Alice and Megan never crush on boys. I know they did in Bonjour Alice but if they're such good friends and always sharing secrets, why do they never gossip about boys or who they like in their school/town.

That's very odd. How many of us NEVER thought about puberty or boys at the age of 12 or 13?

This books were very entertaining and well written but would probably have been better if Alice and Megan has been in 9 or 10 like the readers.
I must say, I'd love if Judi Curtin wrote books for teenage girls. I know she'd do a fantastic job!

I highly recommend this book to girls agreed 9-11.

Writing the review just to keep the memory of this book. I didn`t really ever read as a kid nor did I have books. This one was a birthday gift to my sister from a random friend. For years I would look at the pretty covers until one day I was actually developed enough to read it lol. I still remember some bits from the book after all these years and I would say that that is a very good compliment. Hiding in your bestie`s bedroom for days because you don`t want to be apart, memory embedded in my brain. I`d say it`s a pretty good choice for a kids read.

Another day and another new series, which is the way things seem to be going of late. SO Megan lives next door to Alice, not that one so don't ask the question of who Alice is, but then there is a disaster and a cunning plot to make things right again. Learning about separation of family and friends in an entertaining if slightly unbelievable manner here.

I remember how utterly obsessed I was with the “Alice & Megan” series as a child (I even nicknamed one of my friends as “Alice” back then (thankfully, her name was… similar, so it wasn’t too weird!))! It was one of many things that made me yearn for a friendship like theirs! :)

Best friends need to be together - don't they? Megan and Alice are best friends. They live on the same road, are in the same class in school and dislike the same people. So, when Alice's parents separate and Alice has to move away with her Mum, herself and Megan are devastated. Nothing will ever be the same again, or will it? Together they hatch a cunning plan; a plan so clever that everything will be back to normal in no time at all. This is the story of how two friends need to be together and this means living in the same street, going to the same school and being together, forever!
