To The Abandoned Sacred Beasts #10

To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts, Vol. 10

Hank and Schaal arrive at the small mining town of Coalwalls, situated within the borders of New Patria. Cain has made the town a Divine Protectorate under the aegis of the Incarnate Griffin, whom Hank has come to kill. But once in Coalwalls they encounter Faun, daughter of the former mine owner and leader of a gang of roughnecks who are fighting to take back what New Patria has stolen from them. This is a hard place, where no one can live on kindness alone...
How far will Faun go to regain what was taken from her? And will she side with the man who has come to kill the Incarnate Griffin—who was once her father, Francis Wells?

Ist eigentlich nur Filler. Da die Story gut ist, bin ich mal nicht so. Ich hoffe aber, dass der Plot im nächsten Bad wieder vorangetrieben wird.

Okay, I know I bitched for two straight volumes about the slower pacing, the backstories, and waiting for the main story to pick back up, but all that waiting was worth it because HOLY FUCK, THIS VOLUME WAS AWESOME!!!

I don't care that the entire volume was dedicated to fighting one Incarnate, the battle between the Faun Gang and the Griffin was loaded with action, suspense, and drama and I loved every single panel! The amount of detail in the artwork was astounding and the Griffin is probably the most eerily beautiful Incarnate Maybe has drawn so far. Oh my gosh, there were certain panels that I wanted to make copies of and hang on my wall just so I could stare at them, it was incredible. I'm glad the main story was picked up again and it looks like we're getting closer to the major battle, but I enjoyed taking the time to visit another town and deal with an Incarnate.

I'm sad that I'll have to wait until 2021 for the next volume, but honestly if I'm going to get this quality of work, than the wait is definitely worth it. Maybe I'll reread the series from the start while I wait...

The saga continues to maintain very well the emotional weight and melancholy atmosphere of the work. With each volume, it becomes more evident how this story is not just about war or monstrous creatures, but about broken people trying to deal with irreversible consequences.
I really liked the way emotional conflicts continue to be worked on here. There is a constant feeling of wear, as if all the characters are carrying scars that will never really disappear.
I also found this volume more reflective at various times, especially in issues involving humanity, guilt and even what it means to continue living after losing so much.
And honestly? It's amazing how this work manages to balance action scenes with extremely sad and silent moments without losing its intensity.

We are back with Schaal and Hank on the hunt. This time, the Incarnate is Griffin, a wickedly cool griffin who has a nasty streak. The town is very wild west, which is a fun change but really makes you wonder how far they've traveled. As with all the Incarnate hunts, this one ends sadly, but at least there is closure with this story.

Interesting to this story take a bit of a old west turn and it was pretty good to see. And I like the Faun Gang as it shows that some people even normal people will stand up to Cain and I hope they do show up in later chapters.
