This is a very good cookbook for owners of air fryers who are on the keto diet. It includes many recipes from breakfast to dessert with only a few ingredients. I found the recipes affordable and easily prepared. A few of my favorites included: cheesy pepper eggs, pepperoni rolls, and southern catfish.
Each recipe includes nutrition facts; calories, protein, carbohydrates, net carbs and sodium are all included.
I would highly recommend this cookbook to family and friends!
THANKS to #NetGalley, the author, Sam Dillard, and the publisher for an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Sometimes a book can attempt to do too many things so that it does none of them well. This particular book stands as an unfortunate example of the tendency to proliferate various food fads and gimmicks in a way that fails at the primary goal of a recipe book, and that is to produce worthwhile recipes to eat. There are at least three gimmicks that this book uses to try to increase its popularity. The author had apparently previously written a recipe book that used two of the gimmicks, namely his celebration of the air fryer as well as his championing of the keto diet, which is heavily based on proteins and fats and a minimization of non-fiber carbohydrates. This book, though, which adds the third gimmick of making the recipes five-ingredient, is at least one (or two, or, to be uncharitable, three) gimmicks too much. There is no need for this to have been the case. I happen to enjoy eating food cooked in air fryers, and have previously enjoyed books which featured a reduced ingredient list [1]. Even the avoidance of too many carbohydrates and the substitution of proteins need not have been a problem, as some of these dishes work well in theory, or would work well except for the way that they are done. Yet this book fails.
This book is a bit more than 200 pages long and is well photographed, at least, one of the book's notable virtues. The book also gets high marks on its creativity, as readers seeking to avoid breadcrumbs and sugars and the like will find a lot of inventive ways of decreasing the net carb amount of various dishes. The book begins with an introduction, and after that a discussion on how one cooks with an air fryer for more speed (1). This is followed by themed chapters on recipes, which include chapters on breakfast (2), appetizers and snacks (3), side dishes (4), chicken main dishes (5), beef and pork main dishes (6), fish and seafood main dishes (7), vegetarian main dishes (8), and desserts (9). There is also a US/metric conversion chart as well as an index.
A big reason why this book fails is because the author is intent to celebrate the use of pork, ham, and bacon in his ingredient list. Indeed, the attempt to create "healthy" food that conspicuously and frequently violates biblical commands about what is and what is not acceptable food would appear to be a fatally flawed approach from the start. It is to be expected that in most books there will be at least some dishes that are not worth making nor worth eating because of their ingredient lists, but this book goes well above and beyond the normal quota of unsuitable recipes. Indeed, despite having a short list of ingredients in recipes, the author regularly makes pork an ingredient when it is by no means necessary, such as including pork rinds as a substitute for breading in dishes like pickle-brined fried chicken, fish sticks, cauliflower rice balls, and avocado fries. Where the author avoids using pork rinds he frequently uses ham, bacon, pepperoni, sausage, various unclean seafoods like crab, and the like to fill this recipe book. And even when the author does not use any unclean foods he uses large amounts of mayo, another food I happen to particularly like. Even though in theory a lot of these recipes could be made in an appealing way, the author appears to go out of his way to make them as unappealing as possible, leaving only a few of these recipes that I would even be willing to try. The author may love keto and may love his air fryer, but I do not love this recipe book.
As I follow the keto lifestyle/diet and loving my air fryer I am always looking for more recipes. So when I saw this recipe book, of course, I knew I had to have it.
They are some truly wonderful recipes, They are easy to read and follow and well laid out. and photography is beautifully top-notch. I highly recommend this book whether you following a keto or not and find some awesome recipes for your air fryer.
I also love the recap explaining the ketogenic diet and this is both useful for both newcomers, beginners and advanced ketoers.
Only thing I found negative and this will probably done in the final copy. But instead of page numbers, can we have links instead on the kindle version.
I can't wait to start experimenting once the world is back to normal.
The "I Love My Air Fryer" Keto Diet 5-Ingredient Recipe Book by Sam Dillard is is a cookbook and recipe collection full of keto compliant recipes to try especially developed to utilize everyone's favorite kitchen appliance, the air fryer. Due out 12th May 2020 from Simon & Schuster on their Adams Media imprint, it's 224 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.
The introduction covers the basics of cooking with the air-fryer and essential accessories as well as an intro to the keto lifestyle/diet, including a basic primer on ketosis, macronutrients, tips, ingredients, tools, supplies, how-to. The following chapters include the recipes arranged by category: breakfast, appetizers & snacks, sides, chicken main dishes, beef & pork, fish & seafood, vegetarian, and desserts.
Ingredient measurements are supplied in American standard measurements only. There's a conversion chart for metric measures in the appendices. The nutritional information: fat, carbs, protein, fiber content, etc are listed for the recipes as well as serving sizes. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made for the most part with easily sourced ingredients (not all though, sweeteners for example, will likely need to be sourced from specialists). Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex.
The photography is not abundant; most of the recipes are not illustrated, but the photographs which are included are clear and well done. I wish there had been more photographs and serving suggestions, but I do understand that extra photography increases the price of book projects very quickly and the lack is not crippling because this is a fairly simple recipe collection.
This is a huge collection of recipes and even allowing for the fact that some of them are very similar to others in the same category, this will keep keto-cooks going for ages. Many of these can also easily be adapted to non-keto cooking.
Four stars.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes
Aaaaahhh, how I forgot how much keto loves Erythritol, almond flour, cream cheese, coconut aminos, and other full fat, bloaty goodness. Amazing how 5 ingredient recipes can still sneak some of them in there. It's been awhile keto, let's get into your 5 ingredient air fryer cookbook.
Obviously all of these recipes are supposed to be quite simple. I'm assuming it's a simpler is better situation. However, I found simpler to mean "well duh" for me. But if you ever wanted to know a variety of ways to makes wings...this is your book.
For me it was a miss, but it was mostly because a lot of these recipes are things I firmly believe I could figure out how to make bullsh*tting around in my own kitchen. For someone who is looking for simpler keto recipes you can toss in the air fryer and eat within...10 to 45 minutes, you might like this one.
The pictures are great, the ingredients lists are well organized and clearly set apart from the step by step guide, which is also clear and easy to follow. Just a little too simpler for me.
I have been doing the low-carb diet for almost two year with much success. I also just purchased an air fryer about a month ago & have been slowly incorporating it as my go-to utensil for meals. I was excited to see this cookbook and equally excited after trying a couple of the recipes . The recipes were easy to follow and I love that the Net Carbs were already calculated in the nutrition count. Also I loved that the ingredients in the recipes were something that most of us who practice low-carb have in our cabinets. I'm anxious to try more of the recipes in this book and share the results with family and friends.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. My honest opinion of this book is that it is a great tool for anyone on a low-carb diet and who would like to incorporate the use of air frying into their lifestyle.
We don't eat Keto but my relatives do and honestly it had been hard to cook for them. They have an air-fryer and I cannot wait to add this book to their repertoire. The recipes are easy to make, tasty, and the timing works in our air-fryer. The pickle brined fried chicken was so good. I had never thought about breading using pork rinds. I learned a lot in this actually. There are a LOT of recipes. With being stuck at home, a lot of the time I didn't want to cook, but this made it easy to throw something together that was tasty. I'm sure if you eat Keto all the time, this would be a great book to have on hand for quick and easy dinners. Even if you don't eat keto there are a lot of delicious recipes and you never know when you are going to get the Keto curveball thrown at you. Being able to pull this out and whip something up with very little cleanup is a win in my book.
A wonderful collection of recipes that are simple to prepare and specific to using your Air Fryer. I bought an Air Fryer about a year ago and have loved it so far but have not liked that my old cookbooks are not made for its use. So I was relying on some online sources and a lot of trial and error. This book offers a lot of straight forward recipe ideas that can all be used in the Air Fryer. The added benefit is that they are also specific to a keto diet. The recipes choose ingredients that are generally easy to obtain in all the meal categories and are tasty as well. The added bonus is the recipes that are specifically "kid friendly". I appreciate this as many cookbooks are great for an adult palate but not necessarily approved by children. Highly recommended. Thank you for the early copy. #Netgalley #TheILoveMyAirFryerKetoDiet5IngredientRecipeBook #AdamsMedia 4.5/5
An excellent cookbook for those following keto and have an air fryer. The recipes are only 5 ingredients and super easy to follow for some tasty results. When I got the cookbook, I had just purchased an air fryer so this was a great introduction to it. Now I use it at least twice a week.
The book also includes a simple explanation of the ketogenic diet which is great for newcomers, beginners and advanced ketoers.
Some of my favourite recipes so far are: Ginger Tumeric Chicken Thighs Pecan-Crusted Chicken Tenders Chicken Cordon Bleu Parmesan Herbed Radishes Fried Ranch Pickles Pumpkin Cake Brownies for Two
There are so many more I'm planning to try but the ones I've loved have been made a few times already.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ebook copy in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. I have been thinking about buying an air fryer for quite sometime and this book talked me into it! I thought the recipes were unusual and very creative, with simple, easy to follow directions. I prefer recipes that are not complicated with ingredients that would be easy to find. I have also considered trying the Keto diet and I wasn't quite sure how to cook-Keto style. This book gave me many ideas and options to try. I thought the combination of Keto with an Air Fryer was an excellent combination. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book. Excellent! I posted a review on Amazon
My husband and son regularly follow a Keto diet and the ideas in this book have been very useful for evenings when we need to rustle up something quick without too much fuss. Using just 5 ingredients and an air fryer I can always find something in this book to make a quick meal.
Everything I have tried so far has been a great success. The dinner rolls in particular are fantastic, I use them often to make burgers which are always a big hit.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advance copy of this title in exchange for an unbiased review.
Recently started using my newly purchased air fryer and I figured I could use all the ideas I can find. What I especially like about this book is the large amount of easy to read, easy to follow Keto recipes. Love the pictures too, makes me want to try even more of the recipes. Valuable resource! Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
I've never though how many different recipes I could make using my AirFryer! This book has lots of easy and quick Keto recipes and I'm in love with it! Definitely trying some of them this week. It shows that Keto doesn't have to be boring. Can't wait to try these recipes. There are recipes for breakfast, sides, main dishes (chicken, beef, pork, seafood) and desserts! Yum!
I will end up buying this book. I like the recipes. They were quick and easy. In fact it convinced me to buy an air fryer. I've adopted a keto life-style for health reasons and I meal plan for myself because my family doesn't really know how to help me.
And now you know the rest of the story - Paul Harvey
