Vindy Teja is no stranger to hacking her way back to happiness. She is a proud single parent, TEDx speaker, and professional life & divorce coach.

She is a graduate of The University of British Columbia and Western Law School, and following her call to the B.C. Bar, she discovered her coaching passion as Career Development Director at Western Law School, where she also wrote a comprehensive legal career resource manual.

Along with many joys and successes, I've dealt with serious setbacks, personal and career challenges, not to mention pesky self doubts. The result? A dive into deconstructing happiness. I've distilled my results into practical and meaningful happiness life hacks in "YOLO: Essential Life Hacks for Happiness". I'm excited about YOLO as it highlights tools and tips I also used to find my way back to happiness after divorce.

This book was received as an ARC from INscribe Digital - The Unapologetic Voice House LLC in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

We are still in the search of self-help books and this one focused solely on happiness and offered some very intellectual insight on the benefits of happiness by stating constantly You Only Live Once or YOLO. I also loved the approach of life hacks and that there is happiness in pretty much everything and it all has to do with the viewpoint on it and how you see it. There is always a bright side to everything even if it is just a glimmer of light.

We will consider adding this title to our Self-Help collection at the library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This book doesn't have any revolutionary ideas or anything. It's a lot of common sense and filled with tons of quotes and philosophical idea's from other author's. I can't say it's terrible because maybe by definition of "life hacks" I should have expected this to be compilations of things others have already said...

I wasn't wowed and I probably wouldn't get this as a gift. It just didn't ring a cord with me as being original or inspiring.

I am also not really a fan of the formatting. The font is constantly changing size, style or is bolded in some sentence and not others. Or the words are completely in all caps.

It also has weird characters/numbers and the spacing is inconsistent. (I'm by no means a terribly grammatically correct person or a formatting master). Overall I generally am not judgy when it comes to this kind of stuff but it honestly drove me crazy to look at it and because of the other choices in formatting I can't tell if these are typos or odd choices.

It's all very distracting and takes away from just reading the book. My feeling is extensive editing is needed to make the text and spacing consistent so it flows in a more readable manner.

Other reviewers gave high marks so maybe my copy downloaded incorrectly.
I really don't know. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

YOLO: Essential Life Hacks for Happiness is a short but meaty book. The author covers a lot of ground in this self-improvement book that focuses on increasing your happiness and bettering your relationships.

The information is well-presented and helpful. I found it an enjoyable read and made notes on several of the points for later reference. In each chapter, the author presents the material, summarizes it, and provides questions and exercises which lets the reader apply the information personally. I've always found this one of the best ways to help information retention.

I believe learning (and/or reviewing) should be continuous; we should always be under constant improvement! Anyone at any stage of their life could benefit from reading this book and I highly recommend it.

My thanks to NetGalley, the author and The Unapologetic Voice House LLC for allowing me to read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The book is indeed a "life hack" category book. a very interactive, engaging, hands-on manual kind of book. This book not only focuses on the development of own life but also developing relationships. It's a very balanced book in the sense that it talks about both productivity and mental development into more mature and compassionate human beings. The workbook pattern of the book ensures that short tasks can be practiced daily and get into the habit. Its more towards introspection rather than just talking about the external stimulus. "change starts within you"-kind. The language is easy, fast-paced with no unnecessary theories but it doesn't have that scientific case study backing which makes each and every method realistic instead of this, it got tons of examples to clarify the instructions. The author has shared her personal experiences which made better connectivity between the reader and the book.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) through NetGalley. I was unable to finish this book, The formatting in the copy I received made it unreadable, it appeared to have some good information, but the font changes and strange page breaks made it unbearable for me. My lack of finishing has nothing to do with content, it has to do with no the formatting of the file I recieved.

Upon reading the book, I was impressed at how the conversations, as well as the thoughts and emotions behind them, were captured by Vindy. As an avowed nonreader I found the book kept me engaged both when I read it and long after I had put it down. The book examines a multitude of areas of one’s life by sharing personal experiences sprinkled with affirmations and quotes from those we likely do not know yet their words resonate with us. The hacks in the book offer some questions to ponder and suggestions for what we could do when all the sand we comfortably sunk our head into disappears unexpectedly. I have added the book to the Christmas gift list for my teenage daughter, and my early twenties son

This is a respectful, thought-provoking book that recognizes change can only happen if the process is manageable. The author provides a number of practical methods of taking a look at what you’re doing, whether that is working for you, and how you can modify it to work better. Written in a humorous plain speaking manner, it covers a lot of ground and therefore offers something for everyone, whatever stage of life or particular place you are at the present time. Very applicable to life in today’s modern world where we are so busy pushing uphill that we forget why we are doing it in the first place. The book provides the space for reflection and the non-judgemental guidance on how to move forward.

No one, at birth, is gifted the handbook of a guaranteed happy life. Formal education, that's a gift, but how practical is a diploma when your heart is broken for the first time, or when a loved one is lost? If we could, we would all horde happiness, keep a tank full in reserve, but often life seems very committed to bleeding us dry of every last drop of joy. YOLO: Essential Life Hacks for Happiness is a healing cabinet stocked with practical, impactful insights. It's a how-to on building a strong reinforced foundation of lasting happiness. Author, Vindy Teja is your sage on a journey towards life’s most worthwhile goal: your happiness. Christopher

You only live once, so Vindy Teja is giving us guide to make our lives happier. The essential life hacks are simple, yet insightful and conteract the ways we unwittingly sabatoge ourselves with our thoughts, don't look out for our own best interests, and dont maintain balance in life.

The book lays it out in simple terms and in ways that can easily be applied to anyone's life for immediate change.

Loved this book, it was an easy read, but full of simple techniques to improve life. This is an essential read for any age but I really wish I had read it as a young adult because it offers great tips to change your approach to life. During this unsettling time of the Covid 19 pandemic, this book has helped me cope, stay grounded and improve my relationships. Excellent read!

This is a good - middle of the road - good self-help book.. A good place to start, some good examples in it, but not groundbreaking or explosive (though, I read a lot of self-help). It's one of those books I'd recommend on a starter list.

This one was an ok read. I thought the “life hacks” were obvious common sense for most adults, but this seems to be geared towards teens, so maybe that is why it is so basic.
