I used to think vampires were the stuff of fiction. Now my brother has a baby with fangs and there's bottle of blood in our fridge, so obviously, I was wrong about that. It's not the only thing I was wrong about, either. I'm a nerd, I'm supposed to be smart, but honestly? I'm starting to realize I can be pretty darn clueless.

For one, I never realized that my best friend was in love with me. Not until after he died in a vampire attack. To protect me.

His death shattered my whole world. Seeing him again is like a miracle.

Even if he has fangs now.

Even if he doesn't remember his own past--or me.

His new name is Crimson, and he's not who he used to be. I know that, really, I do. But I have to believe that I can remind him of all the memories we shared, all the years we spent together, geeking out over our favorite games and TV-shows.

Because when he kisses me, I feel whole again.

I don't get it. I've been straight my entire life.

But maybe that's just one more thing I was wrong about?

As much as I liked the first book (a lot), I disliked this one.
The story isn't good, the mcs (especially Luke) more than irritating and childish.
If the next one isn't any better I'm gonna drop this series.

The mutual pining between Luke and Crimson while each believing the other to be out of reach was sublime. Coupled with the complications of Luke's sexuality and perceived straightness, and Crimson's lack of memory? Chef's kiss. The emotional load I adore so much. All that with a good plot as the cherry to the sundae

I was SO hoping that the next book in the series would be for Luke, so I was definitely looking forward to this one! I would recommend reading this in order, as there is definitely continuation with things that happened in the first book. (Also - although there was mpreg in the first book, there was none here between these 2 MCs.)

Luke is devastated over the loss of his best friend, Damien, who he assumed had died from the vampire fight. What Luke doesn't know is that Damien was turned into vampire and now goes by the name Crimson. Luke also didn't know that his best friend was deeply in love with him, despite knowing that it would never be returned. When Luke discovers Crimson and sees his best friend is still alive, he's determined to do better this time around.

I really loved Luke and Crimson. I love that they both struggled with Crimson's lack of memories - vampires don't have their memories of their human lives after they are turned - and I love that Luke came to love Crimson for who he was as a vampire, not only wanting the past and history he'd had with Damien.

This book felt a little bit different for an AKB book - for one, no mpreg. But I was OK with that since both Luke and Crimson were young and their relationship was still so new, even by the end of things. I'm sure they will get there one day. I really loved this one - it was fast paced, great emotion, great interactions with so many characters and building some great plot lines (OK - seriously, I want a story for Jared and Silas now, and Aldrich, and to know more about what Puck is doing, and now Vlad!)

Lots of great little things started in this story that I'm sure these two authors will continue to build on. I'm definitely looking forward to the next story in this series! SO glad these two are writing about vampires!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Magical Vampire MM Romance

2 stars!

This blurb sounded so awesome but I hated a lot of this book. The characters were both boring and annoying. The drama was recycled from book 1 and even the good guys seemed to not be so good. I feel like this series wanted to build on an overarching storyline about a prophecy but nothing in this story really moved that storyline forward.

Overall, I'm disappointed in this one and I likely won't read anymore of this series.

3.5 🌟

I liked this better than the first book. For starters, the romance is a hundred times better built. It makes sense, since it's a friends to lovers and that means that, unlike during book one, both MCs have known each other since long before. And this helps a lot to the naturalness.

Luke was described as the little one of the family, nerdy, sensible and naive. A good guy whose entire world crumbles when his best friend dies protecting him. How can he recover after something like that? Not only he must accept vampires are real, he also has to discover how being a dhampir will change him and also his brother in law and nephew are vampires, the same creatures that killed Damian.

But Damian is not as dead as they think. Changed against his will, he forgets his human life but can't adapt to his new reality. With a dominant and sicko sire, he feels he doesn't fit in that world, and when he's given the task of killing a guy that seems oddly familiar, things will change forever.

The best part of this series is that it gets better as it goes. Because every book is related and the story keeps going with each book. We get to know more about the magic the brothers own whole the fall in love (of course) and we have the already mentioned prophecy. What will it be about? We can just speculate, and that makes reading the next books more appealing.

Also, they author creates nice supporting characters. The kind of character you want to know more about. Aldrich is my fav so far and it's obvs he will start the last book alongside Remmy. Until that, we will get the change to know more about poor Silas (his story promises to be sad but heartwarming and I so want to read a happy ending for him), and I'm very intrigued by Jared's attitude.

In short, this aren't being my favorite vampires themed books, but are pretty interesting and you can't help but want to know more about these guys... And that's something not every book series make me feel, so that's a very good thing.

In Love Bleeds we pick up a little while after the events of book one take place. The dust is still settling after Zenon was destroyed to break Talon free from his control, and life is carrying on for everyone except Lucas. While his brother Collin is busy focusing on his boyfriend and their new baby, Phoenix, Lucas is mourning. He’s grieving the loss of his best friend Damian, the friend who sacrificed himself to save Lucas in Love Bites, and has no idea that Damian has been reborn as a vampire named Crimson.

It’s very important to me that I’m able to connect emotionally with the characters of a novel. The more the author can draw me in, the better my reading experience is and the higher my opinion is on the overall story. Unfortunately, much like the first book of this series, I didn’t feel much of a connection with any of the characters. This is highly unusual for me when it comes to AKB novels. Her Mercy Hills books are probably one of my favorites mpreg series with characters that are beyond developed. So, the characters falling flat is a surprise to me.

There was so much going on with Lucas that I found him a little difficult to wrap my head around. He was this nerdy straight guy who loved to geek out with his friends. Then, once he crosses paths with Crimson, he completely flips the script. I understand that there is some sort of bond between dhampirs and vampires, but the change to their relationship is so sudden it gave me whiplash. First Lucas was squicked out by vampires in general, even his adorable blood-drinking nephew. And then, Damian comes along all vamped out as Crimson, kisses Lucas, and Lucas gets the feels for his long time friend? It’s too sudden for me.

Crimson, aka vampire Damian, is a little more likable. He doesn’t remember his life before he’s a vampire and he wouldn’t even know anything about Lucas had his sire, Nicolai, not made them cross paths. While he was human he harbored an unrequited love for Lucas which Lucas was oblivious to. As a vampire, he’s drawn to Lucas which makes him break away from Nicolai. He starts to remember parts of his human-self including his feelings for his friend. Collin is meddling while Talon is trying to keep everyone safe. Then, once Crimson has to leave with Aldrich to protect everyone from Nicolai, Lucas decides to recklessly take matters into his own hands. There was so much going on and the only part I connected with was Crimson/Damian’s struggles with his feelings about killing one of their friends.

I just―I don’t even know. I really wanted to like this series. It’s been so many years since I’ve read another vampire series aside from this one. But, I just don’t love it. A couple of plot points seem to be recycled from book one. Talon needed to be free of Zenon and Crimson needed to be free of Nicolai. Collin has to awaken his dhampir powers to save Talon and Lucas has to do the same for Crimson. It would have been nice to see a different spin on things plot-wise.

To me, this book was just okay. Since I wasn’t in love with the characters I had a hard time falling into it. I’d say it was a decent read, but nothing spectacular or original, unfortunately. I’ve found that the first book in a new series might not be the best because the author is still trying to get their footing in this new world they’re creating, and because of that I always give the next book a read just to give the author a chance to establish themselves. With Love Bleeds it had the same feel as Love Bites. If the rest of the series is similar to the first two books they’ll be okay reads as well, but nothing more than that for me, sadly.

Ann-Katrin Byrd is an amazing author, so having to say this wasn’t her best work was hard for me. I’m beyond in love with her Mercy Hills series and I’ve enjoyed the Oceanport Omegas as well. I also adore John Solo, the narrator for this series. Together they make a wonderful team that produces amazing, quality work. The Thicker Than Water novels just haven’t hit the spot for me. Though, I have to admit I’m curious about what’s going on with Remy and Aldrich.

I’ll leave off here much as I did with book one. I’d say if enjoyed Love Bites, you’ll more then likely enjoy Love Bleeds. I’d suggest this book to my friends that are into gay vampire romance with the warning that, though this is an enjoyable read, it has a pedestrian plot. Those familiar with AKB might not be as impressed if they go into this book expecting an earth-shattering story like that of her Mercy Hills series. I would advise anyone reading this book to go into it with an open mind.

I keep falling more and more in love with this series and I really wish book three was already out! Love Bleeds is the second book in the Thicker Than Water series. I highly suggest reading Love Bites, the first book in the series, before you start this one. Love Bites provides a lot of world building and introduces a lot of important reoccurring characters. Just a heads up, this series contains mpreg (although not explicitly in every book), so if that isn’t something you enjoy this probably isn’t the book for you.

Poor Luke. Not only has his entire world turned upside down with the revelation that vampires are real, but his best friend was murdered while protecting him during a vampire attack. Life is pretty bleak, and Luke is struggling with his survivor’s guilt and grief. While Luke struggles with his sorrow, Crimson struggles with his new life as a vampire. With no memories of his previous life and a master who cruelly controls his every move, Crimson has to figure out how to navigate this harrowing situation. Both men are at the lowest points of their lives until they are finally brought together – and then everything changes.

This book has a solid plot, but it’s the character development and relationships that really drive the story. Luke and Crimson have to learn how to deal with their new normal and come to terms with their current state of affairs. Their relationship is strong, but the romance is definitely a slow, and steady burn that strengthens gradually into a full out blaze. The last part of the book is incredibly thrilling and had me cheering on Luke and his geeky, superpower ways.

I highly recommend this book, and I adored the audiobook production as well. John Solo is an extraordinary narrator who really embodies his characters and brings them to life. I thought his voice choices for each character was perfect and consistent – I had no trouble keeping track of each character while I was listening. Overall this was a wonderful book that left me salivating for book three.

Love it!

This story is a must read sequel to 'Love Bites'.
The authors created a very unique urban fantasy with fun, geeky characters where love is a powerful form of active magic running rampant and working its way from one Vampire/dhampir couple to the next.

Crimson, abducted and turned after the vampire attack in the previous book in the series, wakes up without his memories as a human.
His sadistic sire is having fun finding ways to control and toy with him, looking for ways to peel away any shred of humanity Vrimson might still possess.
He sets him to target Luke, whom he doesnt remember from before turning, but as his sire retains all of Crimson's memories - he knows just how significant Luke was to him as a human.
When Luke and Crimson finally encounter one another, they are both no longer the carefree teens and best friends they were - they manage to just barely eecape Crimson's sire and as their relationship shifts to become something very different the memories slowly return...

But there is an undercurrent of a supernatural world toeing the line of starting a war between witches and vampires - and while the couple struggles to bridge over the gaps of the new and former identities of Crimson and Luke's best friend, Luke also finds himself working against everyones good intentions to keep him, the 'baby brother', safe, even if safe means to be seperated from Crimson... again.

But Luke is very determind not to stay away and lose the person who holds his heart and does everything he can to find a way to free Crimson from his sire.

Magic and action-movie-worthy excitement make this book an intense and fun read.

I loved the characters in the book, even the evil sadistic sire, old and new characters are a complete delight and most of all Luke and Crimson who are both dorky and sweet and deserve their eventual HFN.

I really recommend this book after reading 'Love Bites'!!!

4 stars! I saw some negative comments about this book, but I enjoyed it. I never read the first book, I felt after reading this one, that I really don't need to, but some may feel differently. There were moments I felt lost because of that, but I dealt. This is another ambiguous Gay For You or Bi For You/Only For You. I was hoping for Only For You, that's my JAM. There was a moment in the story however that left Luke's sexuality, as well as Crimsons surprisingly, up in the air. Crimson was either Bisexual or Luke comments about how he could have ever believed he was straight while with Crimson. But the story kept portraying Luke as Straight, which I was fine with. Luke read very Demisexual biromantic. I'm hoping that's the case, and am looking forward to a book 3 if it continues Luke and Crimson's story line. I doubt it though, but I'm sure they'll make an appearance. The writing was really good. I was glued to this story, and never bored. That's rare for me with these mm/gfy stories. It played out like a TV series or movie. I saw it that clearly. Supernatural elements made it fun. There are of course a few things I would have changed, but this book read like so many YA books I've ever come across and I loved that it's GFY. I wish it was longer. It's rare for me to find such storytelling from books like this with a GFY trope. It's not exactly the story that I would want from a GFY especially the not a big fan of that. I don't hate it, but that trope is really hard to do well for me. I personally would have loved more moments between Luke and Crimson. The insta love was a bit much, I would have liked a little bit more of a slow burn, and romance journey from friends to lovers. Just a little too easy.

It's review time 🎧

Narrator score🎧 ; first and foremost I need to say that I just adore the serious the way that Jon solo can read things that should be hilarious and the way he reads those things even more funny. He is one of the best narrator's for sure. I adore his ability to take the pain of each character and multiple it. He is just the best.

"What do you want with a fang?" I mused. "You can't even have solid foods yet."

Level of steam🔥: it's a slow burn. It takes time for them to get to the point of steam. And I absolutely love it.

"He'd wanted Luke too much. His sweet smile, his wit, his air of innocence..."

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: I don't want to write spoilers, but what I can say that it's an incredible story you do have your melancholic moments out there.

"Damian had been terrified that Luke might discover his secret. He'd never have thought that Luke would handle it like... this. That they could ever be together this way."

The book itself📖: ok. Let's start with the usual warnings. It's an mpreg vampire shifter fantasy series. ( males that can get pregnant) it's the second book in the series.
This book was absolutely great. I loved every single character, even the crazy one. And he was really f*** crazy.
The world that the authors created was believable and I think it's the most important thing in a fantasy world.
You understand the intricacies of the situation. The book was absolutely lovely. Best friends to lovers in a great story that feels so real. I loved it. Can't wait for the 3rd book and to a lot more of these.

I wondered if there were any vampires in space. There wouldn't be, would there? Whose blood would they drink?

So this book picks up a little after the first book ended. In that book we see this MC Luke, has lost his best friend Damien. Damien died protecting Luke from vampires and he’s been grieving him for months. But what he doesn’t know is that not only did Damien die but he became a vampire as well. Wiping away all of his memories from when he was a human. Luke being his best friend in the whole world and the fact that he was in love with Luke was wiped away as well.

In the first book I really liked Luke. I thought he was sweet and caring but for the first part of this book I didn’t like Luke at all. He was a little shit honestly. He was rude and annoying. He kept going off on his family about how they treated him like a baby but that’s because he kept acting like one. So yeah Luke wasn’t really my favorite. He ended up being better once he’s with Damien, whose name is now Crimson, again. I’m thinking he was grieving so bad and that’s why he was a little asshole and then he’s better when he gets his friend back. I’m glad when they reunite it’s with romantic feelings even though Luke never had them before. He had a one track mind in wanting to kill Damien’s sire so Damien could be free and I liked how determined he was to make sure Damien was okay.

The romance in this one was better than the first one. These two feel strongly for each other. There’s longing and so much love that it was more satisfying to read. I’m super curious about the next one so I’m off to read about Jared and Silas!!

I look at you and see all the ways a soul can bruise, and I wish I could sink my hands into your flesh and light lanterns along your spine so you know that there's nothing but light when I see you. ~Shinji Moon 🌙~
I'm really enjoying this series. I like the plot and all of the side characters, even if they are vile, it adds depth and keeps the story interesting. The one thing I'm not enjoying is the whining from the brothers so far. Luke was even worse than Collin. Half way through I wanted to throw cheese at his head. "Would you like some cheese with your WHINE???" Ugh. I'm happy it calmed down a bit but Luke definitely grinded on my nerves. However, even with that mild annoyance I sincerely enjoyed the relationship between Crimson & Luke. I didn't feel like it was an insta love relationship. Crimson loved Luke for a long time before he got turned. I feel like Luke has always felt that way as well but was oblivious to everything going on around him. When they did reconnect it felt real.
I'm nervous to listen to Jared & Silas's story though. When Silas was being forced to drink the animal blood by his sire I felt nauseous and cringed at their realtionship. I can't imagine all the thing Silas was forced to do or how brutally he was treated. I'm happy Nikolai is gone, best part of the book. 😈

I was looking forward to this story since I read the first part of the series and at the end it was shown about who the next book would be. Over time, my hype grew but at the end I was not disappointed and the book met my expectations. As soon as I got the book I started to read it and couldn’t put it down till I finished it.The history of Luck and Crimson / Damian was well written, I liked how the problem of memory loss / "personality change" of Crimson / Damian was solved, which probably worried me the most. I also liked the transformation of the main characters where Luck coped with the loss of his friend and then after getting him back he realized that he would never be the same as before becoming a vampire or as Damian / Crimson slowly remembered everything and at the end when he remembered all his previous life he suddenly didn't decide that his is Damian again but Crimson who is a combination of his old and new life. All the while reading this book I had the feeling of being there and I think that when a book makes you feel like that it is a good book. I also cant wait for the next book and what will happen then.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I'm totally in love with this series - I'm binge listening because I NEED to know how it will all work out, but at the same time, I don't want it to ever end. It's incredibly suspenseful - even in seemingly peaceful moments, there's always a shoe waiting to drop. It's also very sexy, very sweet, sometimes sad, and periodically actually quite funny.
I really liked Crimson & his deep down decency. I felt for him and for Luke; Crimson with his longing and Luke with his grief and guilt. I enjoyed watching their growing acceptance of their past, present and future.
I experienced the book through the audio version and enjoyed it greatly, much like the first. I don't envy John Solo having to do such a large and continually growing mostly male cast, having to differentiate that many voices. I think he changed Colin's voice slightly in this one from the previous book, but it's understandable. I really liked Crimson's sexy, low growl of a voice, much as I had Talon's smoother dark voice in the previous.
I'm so totally hooked on this series.

I love it!!! Luke and Crimson are so cute together, I was looking forward to this book and it didn’t disappoint, Luke was devastated when he lost Damian and can’t get over it, he doesn’t want to know about vampires but that soon change went he discovered that his best friend maybe it’s not gone but also not the same. Crimson/Damian doesn’t know how he was but his instinct told him that not always that he was told it was okay, he is tasked to find someone but when they meet there’s something about that boy that call to him to protect, their journey is fill with so many wonderful things and new experiences. I love that their connection is so powerful. If you looking for a book fill of angst, action and a friends to lovers story this is for you, I highly recommend this book. Can’t wait for more of this series! I was gifted this ARC for a honest review!

This book made me buzz with excitement. They were just so many factors into play, so many unknowns, questions and uncertainties. So many of the people around Luke, his family and Damien (Crimson) seemed to have their own shady agendas, that I doubted all of their actions and words. It kept me on pins and needles, wondering who was friend and which were the foes.

And amid the fear and trepidation, there was the sweetness of Luke and Damian together, the cuteness of one fanged baby Nix, family interactions and shenanigans.

𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 was a continuous thrill, from beginning to finish. The ending was awesome: happiness with a dash of intrigue... with more questions than ever. I loved it and I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

Not better than the first

I read the first book and was totally into it. The second book was ok not remotely close to being as good as the first book. In the first book you see Damien die protecting Luke and Luke can’t let that guilt go. Over time Luke thinking Damien died but Damien was actually turned and is now known as crimson. For a straight guy Luke sure was ready to jump into a relationship with crimson.
For some odd reason Luke referred to crimson as being his boyfriend in the book sometimes and I never read that part where they made it official. Wish we had learned more about likes power. Luke and crimson relationship was literally based on a span of maybe 2 weeks. But overall it was ok not the best but I would feel bad rating it 4 stars.

Luke is suffering from the loss of his best friend at the hands of a vampire, not knowing that Damien was turned by Nicolas. Finding one another again should have been simple but lose of memory of his previous life, Damien doesn't remember Luke. Luke sets out to rescue Damien who is now called Crimson, which sets off a Chain of events that put both of the young men in danger. Luke must pull from deep within to find the magic he so doesn't want in order to save them both. An excellent edition to this dark vampire series. Enemies abound especially from those they don't suspect. A must read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

~4.5 STARS~

“Same old ship, with a few new pieces.”

I enjoyed the world the author created. There's an interesting plot and well-developed characters. I will admit I wasn’t sure about Luke at first, but he grew on me. Crimson was definitely my favorite character. I loved watching Luke and Crimson slowly grow and come together.

I didn’t read the first book and didn’t feel like I missed anything.

John Solo did a great job. Each character had their own voice and I could feel the emotions. Mr. Solo really knows how to bring life to characters and preforms them flawlessly.

After his best friend sacrificed himself to save him, Luke wrestles with guilt and sorrow until he meets a vampire known as Crimson. This second book in the Thicker Than Water series is a strong and emotional story with hurt / comfort, MPREG, and memory loss themes. The intriguing story arc follows straight from the first book and kept me engrossed and left me wanting more. The backstory was excellent. 🎧 John Solo does a great job on these books. My only gripe is that he voiced Luke in an immature, sometimes petulant tone - it grates but suited the character.

OMG! What did I just read!? I half held my breath reading this and waiting for more evil to befall the good guys, while on the egde of my seat! So much drama and action, that I'm still reeling and processing it all! One heck of a world building story with characters I'm invested in and want more of in the future! I'm starting to dislike Puck more and more. He tricked Luke for Vlad's phone number and then in the end, a possible bigger fall out to come. I can't. More please!!!

Another winner. I loved seeing Luke and Crimson (Damien) find each other again, they were such great characters. I was so into the storyline, all the ripples playing out around Luke and Crimson had me glued to my tablet. I don't know how to feel about the end of the book, on one hand 'sneak peak!' on the other hand it makes me want it even more. I can't wait.

What a great continuation of the series.
There was plenty of drama and fast paced action.
Luke and Damien/Crimson were such wonderfully sweet characters.
The struggles they had to endure were certainly difficult but in the end it brought them closer together and made them stronger.
There were plenty of plot twists and turns with enemies all around.
An emotionally compelling story with amazing world building that definitely has me eagerly anticipating the next book.

Wanted to love it but couldn't stand the main character

Luke is so incredibly whiny, selfish, impulsive and time after time, constantly puts himself and his loved ones in danger because he doesn't listen to anyone else's advice. He kept whining for his brother's to stop babying him but did very little to prove his growth or maturity. I managed to finish the book because I enjoyed the first one and I'm hoping the 3rd is more relatable.

Can I just say that I absolutely love this story and I am so happy. I was hoping that this book would be Luke and I couldn't be happier. Luke and Crimson/Damian are just so cute together! I just couldn't stop reading. I was just absolutely pull into their story. Then the ending just makes want to next book like NOW! Absolutely amazing and I am loving this series so much!
