I wrote my first book when I was 8 years old. I glued photos of my cats in a blank book and wrote about them, too. Now I am an internationally-published children's author commended by the Library of Congress for my work encouraging children to read.
I write in a room between a deli and an art gallery on a small town street. I can see families walking by, and I can hear children laughing and playing. It helps me to remember what exactly I'm doing this for - creating books for families all over the world to use together, and helping children to love words.

This book highlights that although every person across the world is different and unique, there are still many things we do the same.
The book provides how to say various things in different languages. There is also explanations of how things are in a range of countries, for example what happens when a tooth falls out.
A really lovely book showing the similarities and differences of various cultures with fabulous illustrations to support the words. The layout appeals to a range of ages.

What a beautiful book! I love the idea behind it and both the presentation and content are top-notch. This book looks at meals, clothes, traditions and languages from around the world, introducing children to other countries in the words of children themselves. I absolutely loved this and will definitely be adding a few copies to our school library and my classroom for sharing with my pupils and starting discussions.
I learned quite a few things from this book, including various methods to cure hiccups around the world, the Catalonian Christmas tradition of caga tio (otherwise known as a 'pooping log' because of the presents that appear from the back end) and various idiomatic expressions.
This should be an essential part of any library catering for young people and I have now added it to the list of books I buy people for their new babies.

A lovely book which highlights both the similarities and differences between children across the world. The pages are bright and colourful and engaging to explore with lots of examples of how children live in different cultures from how they get to school to what happens when they lose a tooth to what they eat. There are pages which show you how to say certain phrases in different languages as well as what different phrases mean. A lovely book to promote inclusivity and educate children about other people around the world. This would be a fantastic book to read with any aged children.

Welcome to our World proclaims on its front cover to be ‘A celebration of children everywhere’ and it is exactly that. No matter what culture, what background, what beliefs…children will find themselves represented in this book. Our individual culture and heritage makes us unique yet we have so many things in common.

Welcome to our World is a wonderful book about the differences and similarities of children around the world. Whilst we may appear very different to each other we are in-fact very similar. We all wear clothes, we all eat food, we all have somewhere to call home, we all talk to others, we all play games, the list goes on.

It truly is a feast for the eyes and the brain. Even as an adult there was so much in this book that I didn’t know and I feel richer for reading it. Ever wondered what different children around the world do when their tooth falls out? Greek children throw their tooth onto a roof whilst children in France put their’s under a pillow for a mouse to take away. And did you know that “Stop ironing my head” means “Stop annoying me in” Armenian. Or how about how Mexican children cure hiccups…they spit on a piece of red string and then stick it to their forehead.

The book is set across sixty four pages, many of which are double page spreads, and is packed full of beautiful illustrations and accompanying text. Each page or double page spread has it’s own unique theme and is laid out in an accessible way with headings, sub-headings, a brief opening sentence or question, and illustrations accompanied with captions or paragraphs of informative text.

Words in different languages are written with a phonetic pronunciation beneath enabling the reader to have fun speaking in a different language - they’ll be able to say hello in Thai, introduce themselves in Russian and say boring in Italian!

Perfect for introducing children to other cultures and helping to develop an appreciation and understanding of these cultures. Younger children will delight in looking at the bright illustrations and older children will enjoy reading the informative captions that accompany the images. This truly is a celebration of children around the world and is suitable for readers of any age.

Recommended for everybody.

This beautifully illustrated non-fiction book compares the costumes, traditions, languages and everyday life in many different countries through the eyes of children. Topics covered include clothes worn to school and for special occasions, pets, homes, journeys to school, food and how to say “my name is” in different languages. It is a book that can easily be dipped into. It is perfect for exploring similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries with children in reception. In the introduction the important point is made that people don’t do the same thing everyday with the example that one day they might eat a hamburger and the next day they might eat a traditional dish from their country.

A delightful, insightful, surprising and wonderfully educational book to introduce children (and their adults!) to the traditions of other world cultures. Charmingly and informatively written in a way that will engage all ages, it is equally superb in its illustrations which perfectly compliment the content and continually brought a smile to our faces. We could not love this book more and revisit it often. Highly recommended for families who want to introduce the value of cross-cultural understanding and appreciation to their children!

This was a wonderful book to read. It talks about how no matter how different we are we all do some of the sane things. Everyone is unique and equal at the same time. The cover of the book is a wonderful interpretation of the book and made me want to read it. The cover had many colors with all different clothing on each and everyone person to represent where they come from. The book overall is a wonderful way of connecting all of your students no matter where they come from.
