Innocent Bait: Serving Her Alien Fated Mates

Rate this book
Librarian Note: This is a standalone story, set in the Aurelian Empire. It is not necessary to read previous books to understand this story.

Seven-foot-tall Aurelians are addicted to claiming innocence

Mia: Mine is the bait.

The huge, dominant species cannot control their mating rage around a woman untouched. They have deep biological drives to find their Fated Mate. It blinds them. It turns them into animals. Dangerous animals.

I can't be near the aggressive warrior species...

I have no choice.

I'm a Sector 4 thief, and when my boss tells me to do something, it's either do it or get my skull cracked open. Even if that means trying to fool a species that can smell what you're thinking.

I have to infiltrate the manor of the most powerful aliens on the planet. I have to convince them I'm a maid. A damsel in distress. Nothing more than an innocent, helpless woman on the big bad planet.

Gallus. Cyrus. Varian. Three powerful aliens who have built a fortune seeing through deception. Ivory skin. Huge rippling muscles and hands that could crush your skull in a single squeeze. Blank grey eyes that see through me. Protective, possessive, and controlling. Once I'm in their manor, they won't let go.

Will they be blinded by my innocence...

Or will I be caught and punished?

The thief and the triad!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 😟🤭😘🥰

The heroine: Mia - a human female, she grew up in one of the worst sectors in Capital City. She is a small-time criminal whose recent heists have been moving her into the big leagues. She works for a guy named Darr who has the face of a neanderthal and the strength of a gorilla. He hates the Aurelians, thinks the seven-foot-tall aliens are too smug because the whole universe is afraid of them. He wants to put them in their place using Mia to do it.

The Heroes: Gallus, Cyrus and Varian - they are an Aurelian triad, bonded to each other and still searching for the one fated mate that can bear them sons. They have a harem of 30 females, which is small for Aurelian males their age, they are very picky and often turn girls away. They live in Sector one, after their 100 years of service to the Aurelian military, they received untold wealth and grand estates with which they can live out their long lives.

The Story: Mia doesn’t want to try to steal from Aurelians. If she would get caught stealing from human, the most she could get would be a couple of years in the cells. However, Aurelians took breaking the law very seriously, and their punishments sometimes far outweighed the crimes. She could be publicly whipped and serve fifteen years without parole for stealing from them. Not only that but Aurelians can smell emotions especially coming from humans, so the con would have to be foolproof.

Their jobs lately have been done using a maid con. Mia would trick the rich people into hiring her as a maid. She would work in their mansion for three weeks or long enough to earn their trust and target a small but high value item to steal one night as she leaves work. Meanwhile Darr would find a buyer for the item so they can fence it right away after procuring it. Though Darr takes the majority of their earnings, Mia hopes to one day save enough of hers to go to the planet called Oasis, which she has been dreaming about for as long as she can remember.

Darr won’t back down about conning the Aurelians and tells Mia that the maid trick won’t work, but he has protected her and kept her a virgin all these years for this very purpose. He says the Aurelians act drunk when they see an innocent human female and they will jump at the chance to act the hero and especially if it is a virgin they can claim. Darr gives Mia no choice, she knows that he will end her life if she doesn’t do what he wants.

The story is good. I like how Mia gets the attention of the Aurelians and I liked hearing about their expansive mansion and all the art and riches they have. The pools, the library, the long halls where you could move around without running into anyone else. The huge beds and lavish closets filled with clothes. Though I found myself getting a bit bored with Mia’s thoughts since she seemed to repeat what she was thinking over and over again. Not just about what she was there for but about the Aurelians.

DNF @ 40%

Believe it or not, I was actually excited to read this book, simply because the premise sounded interesting. However, its execution was a fail of epic proportion. At one point, I was tempted to throw my Kindle out my window because I was so frustrated.

It felt like nothing really happened in the book. There was way too much focus on the characters’ inner monologue, which would be 100% fine if they weren’t so repetitive.

Take the heroine for example. Her inner monologue consists of exactly these things:

• oh my god these aurelians are so fucking hot i want to be dommed!
• but nah i’m not one of those girls who are desperate for attention that i would lower myself like that!
• but, like,,,, what if i want to be dommed,,, regardless,,, eheheheh. >.<
• noo i deserve better! why am i even jealous ugh do your job bitch!

Now, imagine having these monologues repeated over and over and over again. Who wouldn’t want to rip their hair off? I know I did. It’s not just the heroine, it was also the same with the other three characters. Over time it almost felt like these thoughts, were repeated to maximise the page count. It was so blatant that I just gave up. Not even sorry.

Great world and character building - had to read it a 2nd time - highly recommend as an escape from reality for a few hours

Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence.

This story contains some grammatical errors, mainly inserted extra words and misspellings. I was able to easily interpret the author’s intent so I didn’t reduce the rating.

While this could be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend it be read in series and story order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers.

This story contains elements of consensual / non-consensual acts, spanking for pleasure / punishment, stealing, assault, death, etc. If this type of genre is not for you, then please do not purchase and then rate it lower than it deserves.

This story is about Mia, a young female forced to grow up in the poorest section on her planet as an orphan. She was taken in by Darr, a master thief, who taught what she knows. He helped her with food, shelter (somewhat) and protection. Now she has to complete jobs for him, whether she wants to or not ... when he let her know that the next target was an Aurelian Triad, Mia wanted no part of it ... until Darr changed her mind for her.

Cyrus, Varian, and Gallus have lived on Deemak for centuries. They focus their time on finding their Fated Mate every time they meet someone who could be a possibility. Most of the time they focus on their passion of collecting greater wealth, getting the best deal for all, and vintage wines.

Then one day while on their way to a meeting, they see a male hitting and yelling at a small female. They step into stop it, then realize that this female smells “right”, like more so than any other female they have ever met.

I am going to stop here so I don’t accidentally provide any spoilers.

This is one of the few stories by Corin Cain that is not released within a set of 3, but it contains quite a bit of background information on the Aurelians, their residence, the description of Deemak, and the general universe world. The quality of the characters, storyline, etc. was why I gave it 5 stars. It was just as good, if not better, the second time around ... thankfully it is available through KU!

This was a huge miss for me. Half of the story is repetitive ruminating. Very little action... too much time spent in the mansion plotting or angst..ing. Really, it was ridiculous and I finally started skimming page after page. Books like this are an insult to the reader because half of the story is padding to achieve a page count. I don't need to be told the same thing more than twice.

Ehhh.. Not the greatest of the series

This one is tough for me. I’ve read many many books from this author, however Innocent Bait just left me feeling empty 95% of the book. Spoilers ahead.

First off- this is the first time we’re meeting a triad that is 500 years old and has already amassed a large harem. The first few chapters made me gag. The opening scene alone has Gallus f*cking a woman from his harem. Thoughtless and even knowing it won’t bring him any satisfaction. Then hours later he meets this young woman Mia and tries to f*ck her immediately without even showering off the other woman? Barf.

You can be a sexual being and not be a scumbag. Even Varian who once loved a human woman, didn’t mate with another after she died.

The only way to know for sure it’s your bonded mate is by screwing hundreds of women?! Bullsh*t. They knew immediately there was something special and different about Mia. “They’ve never felt this way about anyone else.” Well after sleeping with hundreds of women, with one finally giving you a challenge that’s not a surprise.

The story is just blah. I skimmed quite a bit, however I was determined to finish. The author tried to bring us back on Gallus’ side by showing his determination to buy land to grow crops for the hungry on lesser sectors. This made Mia sit back and think, ‘hmm maybe they are good dudes that don’t want to just get in my pants and discard me after.’ Ya no.

If you’re reading the series in order from start to finish, don’t feel guilty about skipping this one. It’s definitely stand alone and lackluster. Not missing anything.

As you can tell, this is a completely honest review. 🤷🏻‍♀️

2.5 stars. This is my least favourite.

The Triad are businessmen who call themselves greedy and obsessed with beauty and money.

But this future world is very very white. The aliens are white. All the heroines and harems are white. The earth history they talk a LOT about is all European/American history. The only non-caucasian culture I read was their reference to "The Art of War" which they say they use in their alien military training..

Also who were their fated mates before humans? They talk about humans before they learned of space travel so how did this history of them having fated mates that are human women happen? When? How did they exist before? And is the entire galaxy just these 4 species? I swear they have adopted only human traditions and language.

They use so many human phrases and reference earth animals and all their artifacts are human antiques.

Anyways the actual smexy times are AFTER 90% SO....

So much rumination. Over and over and over the same thoughts in their monologues. Over and over and over.

And also needs a lot of editing. Far more typos and grammatical/spelling errors than the other books.

Sci-fi romance with some gorgeous and big alien males. The Aurlelians are an all male species. They search their whole lives to find the one female that is their fated mate. They form Triads, three males, when they are young males. From there they fight and do business as a unit. Their lust is insatiable all in the search of the one female. This story follows one triad but this isn’t really their story. It is Mia’s. She is a young human female and also a thief. Her past and present jobs will force her into the unexpected. She will have to make choices that could mean life or death, freedom or prison, love or betrayal. Nothing is as it always seems and life is never easy.

Ending made the novel worth it

This was a slow read and was filled with so much repetition that several pages could be skipped without missing any important plot points. The last 20% of the novel, however, made the whole read worth it. The author was able to create a very realistic damsel in distress scene, to the point where I didn’t even realize I was holding my breath until I let it all out with a whoop for joy! Based on the previous reviews referring to the other novels as better written, I will be giving this author another chance and will hopefully enjoy a novel filled with edge of your seat action and suspense! I can’t wait!

Her innocent vulnerability attracted them..
Mia had a rough start in life, fending for herself from an early age. A brutal thief takes her under his wing, offering protection and training in thievery. She doesn’t want to take the latest job he sets up for her. She’s taking all of the risks and she’s got too much to lose. He won’t take no for an answer. The targets... three rich Aurelian Warriors, Gallup, Varian, Cyrus.

Unnecessarily Wordy

There are soooo many ....WORDS!!! I don't think I have ever read a book with this level of repetition and the never ceasing avalanche of unnecessary words that say a whole lot of nothing. I mean a whole lot of nothing!! I've read this universe and enjoyed those stories but this one was an absolute miss for me. There is no real romance or development of the relationship. The ending and conflict wrapup is rushed and was just unsatisfying.

The Worlds of the Aurilians

I love the Aurilians and the Worlds Corin Cain builds for them. These stories build such a reassuring, though very spicy romantic, safe world to inhabit with one's fantisies. I hope there are more of these stories in the author's imagination, and that she gifts them to us. Yes, I highly recommend all the stories set in the Aurilian World by Corin Cain.

Wordy but a good story.

I found myself scanning through the book. I just wanted to get to the point. The author is very descriptive & leaves nothing to the imagination. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just really impatient. It's a pretty good story though. Especially good if you like dominant makes and submissive women.

OMG- Mia is really at a disadvantage with these three dominate aliens.
Cyrus, Gallus and Varian are going to show this little thief the error of her ways.
Now I know you want details but I am not going to spill the details.
I am leaving you to discover who,why and when.........

Very Good

This book was really good. For some reason I didn't find it quite as good as the others I've read. I liked the men though sometimes they make me wince, Mia was their mate. Her story was awesome! It was believable and sort of sad. As always there is a HEA.

If you enjoy sexy, alien, menage romances than this one needs to be on your list. It's entertaining and sexy, with wonderful characters. It's not a dark read, but there are some spanking scenes that added a lot of heat, and a wonderful HEA.

Innocent bait

Such an engrossing method of getting the main characters altogether and lots of nefarious activities to deal with. Mia is naive more than innocent and her character evolves.

Loved the story line

I read the book much faster than I thought especially with the longer chapters but I was so intrigued I didn’t know to what happened next. I expected more spice and normal prefer it, but the spice was just what it needed to be for the story line

This book was cute, but damn was it repetitive. I was getting tired of reading the same thoughts over and over again but worded a little bit different. The end felt a lil rushed too but I still had a good time.

I have really loved reading all the stories about the Aurelian races. The rouges who are really good men and all of them. With so many good and bad males in stories, I really love the Aurealian race. It seems like the stories, so far, they are all very honorable men. They treat females with consideration and care at all times. I am glad that we can read more stories about these awesome males. This story is more story and less hot scenes, but what a story!

Mia is a street urchin, from Section 4, who was caught up/brought up by Darr, the head of the thief's, and was able to train her to be the best he has ever had. He also protected her from all males who wanted her, but he had a long game plan for her. Lately he has her pose as a maid in Section 2 households where she works for a few weeks before she steals whatever it is she is sent to steal. Then she lays low for a while and does it again. Now Darr has a plan to get some ancient wristwatches from the resident Arealians. When Darr plays out that he is abusing his poor maid right in front of them, and they smell her innocence, they will want to save her. They will take her back to their mansion in Section 1 where she can find and steal the watches that Darr already has buyers for.

Gallus, Varian and Cyru have been alive for over 500 years. They served their manditory 100 years in battle for the Arealian military. When they survived, they were granted wealth and a mansion. Since then, they have increased their wealth to the point that their wealth and home is better than the King on the planet they live. They know that if they deal fairly with people now, and continue to do business fairly with people, that they can do business with that family for many generations, since they themselves can live to be over 1000 years old. They deal fairly with everyone, especially females. They have been looking for their Fated Mate, just like all males of their race. They have harems of females that they keep, once they find out that they are not their Fated Mate. They can stay or leave as they wish. After 1 year service, they are allowed to leave with riches and an education at the best schools. After a certain number of years, they are encouraged to leave so they may find a male of their own to have children with. If they want to come back later, they may. They are all pampered and live in great luxury. When they come across a merchant who is abusing his maid, they offer to pay off her contact and take her with them. She has a black eye and bruises already. She says she doesn't want to be in the harem, she will do maids work. She is taken in hand by Sarah, one of the harem females, to get her cleaned up and in better clothing. When Mia sees all the beautiful women in the harem, she fells like she is ugly compared to them. Sarah gets her cleaned up, clothed and does her hair and make up to hide her bruising. Mia sees a beautiful woman in the mirror. Mia enjoys her time in their home and gets to know the three men better. Gallus is the leader and very serious. Varian is quiet and keeps to himself. He fell in love with a human once and has been heartbroken every since. Cyru is the flirt and jokester of the triad. He is also the one who everyone feels most comfortable around.

Mia has to make a hard decision. She feels deeply for the triad, but if she doesn't steal the watches, she is afraid that Darr will kill her. If she is caught, she will be sent to prison for 15 years. This is supposed to be her last heist before she takes off to another world.

Other Women involvement. No thanks.

A reverse harem where there are way more female pleasure slaves or volunteers if you want to call them that, than there are males in the story.
There are three main males, a triad.
They have multiple women at their house. You even get to read sex scenes with one of them with one of the random women.
There’s no romance in this book.
Mia slides in as a maid to steal from them. They’re attracted to her. She fights being attracted to them.
Finally at 98% of the book, yes, you read that right, 98% is when the main female Mia and the three males finally have sex.
There just wasn’t a feel of romance to this. And instead of loving and treasuring her it went very they’re the kings and she’s this submissive to be borderline abused worth nothing but to get them off with holes. There’s nothing wrong with some domsub kink if that’s what you’re into. But I don’t think it’s right for them to constantly be in that role play mindset. It gets to a point of degradation and humiliation at that point. And Mia is apparently down for that.
Would not recommend this book. Will not try others in the series.

Still a good read, I was just expecting more delicious, erotic debauchery that is in the first book of the series. With all the innuendos, hinted details of the sexual escapades between the harem women and the 3 Aurelians and Sarah - Mia's only real "friend" among the harem, fanning her face every time she talks about the sex, there was only one sexual interaction between the 3 Aurelian males and Mia prior to the grand finale. The bonding moment between the mates, where the men are meant to go wild and primal was rather missionary and tame. Mia is the focus of the book, her internal struggle with wanting to steal the watches giving her enough money to be free of her "keeper" and start a new life off-planet; and her awakening sexual feelings for her three bosses Gallus, Cyrus, and Varian. As well as continually debating with herself about wanting to give in to this attraction but knowing that if she gives them her virginity and is not their "fated" mate, she will be "nothing" to them. Right now, her virginity and her insistence on being only their maid have made her a "shiny new toy" to them.
