A witness targeted and on the run in this suspenseful romance from Maggie K. Black, part of the Protected Identities series.
When key witness Corporal Holly Asher is abducted, Detective Noah Wilder risks everything to rescue her. Now they’re undercover as an engaged couple, hiding from a sinister hacker group—who plan on exposing every witness in protection on Christmas Eve. But can Noah and Holly stop a deadly conspiracy…without tipping off those who want to kill her?
Maggie K. Black is an award-winning journalist with a thirst for adventure. She's lived in the American South, Europe and Middle East, and left a piece of her heart in each. She now makes her home in Canada, where she writes stories that make her heart race, chases her dog around the park and shares her adventures with her one true love and and their two daughters.
Woohoo -- another mountie series from Maggie Black with a couple of carryover characters from previous series as an extra bonus! Can't wait to get more of their stories.
Black creates a sense of urgency from the very first page and pulls that tension taut right through to the very end -- both with the suspense and the romance! All while introducing us to an unorthodox team of "rogue RCMP agents" who will be featured in future novels...I hope!
And I believe Black is the queen of writing kick-butt heroines. Holly is a trained soldier and acts like one. Better yet, Noah respects her for it and treats her like an equal even when his protective instincts threaten to take over a time or two.
An intricate plot, tons of action and a great cast of characters makes Christmas Witness Protection a stellar start to a new series.
This book wasn’t spicy 🌶️ but it had action in it. This is a story about a woman named Corporal Holly Asher. She gets abducted. She is rescued by Detective Noah Wilder. He risks everything to save her. They go undercover as an engaged couple. They hide out from a bad computer hacker group.
The computer hackers plan on exposing every witness in protection on Christmas Eve. Noah and Holly plan on stopping the deadly conspiracy. This had religion brought into the story. I would have liked a little bit of spice 🌶 in this book. It was good on the action.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Christmas Witness Protection. This is the first book in the Protected Identities Series. I really enjoy Maggie's books. They are so hard to put down. This book is well written, action packed and full of suspense. Maggie weaves her faith throughout the story in a unique way. I know you are going to love this one.
Key witness Corporal Holly Asher is being transported to a new life with witness protection. A car is following and she warns the RCMP detective but he just laughs her off just before he is shot and killed. He was talking to a detective on the phone who is still on the line when the car crashes. She picks up the phone and talks to him when she see cops coming. He tells her to stay in the car but the two police cars come straight for her. She gets out but her head is fuzzy from the crash. She is abducted.
RCMP Detective Noah Wilder had been informed that the "Impostors" were going to hijack the Corporal. They have something to do with the dark web hackers. Noah is on leave due to problems with his step brother. He rescues Holly and enlists several of his best friends to help him keep her safe. They are all on leave for various reasons They go undercover as an engaged couple to try to get a list of all the people on witness protection program out of these enemies' hands.
A horrendous journey for a woman with a concussion severe enough to be told she needs complete bed rest. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
This is the first book that I read from Maggie’s work and I can say I was surprisingly pleased to discover her writing and learn from it. I truly enjoyed Noah and Holly’s love story as well as their own personal stories. The book contains suspense, love, trouble, a bit of drama, in other words, it has it all. I liked the plot very much and the way the ending unfolded. There were happenings that maybe I would have explained a bit more detailed and probably would have not linked to each other, like how Noah found Holly after she had been taken during the wedding ceremony or the fact that Seth found them while they were in the gym. But, again, this is only one reader’s perception amongst many others’. The possibilities of rewriting a scene are endless. That’s why I can say that from many fiction book that I have read this one has sense, a strong and reasonable plot and fully developed characters as well as rightly constructed scenarios. I also loved the fact that Maggie attached a “Writer’s note” at the end of the book, it gave the reader a little insight on the book’s writing process and it surely strengthened the bond between the reader and the writer.

There is very little Christmasy beyond the timeframe in ‘Christmas Witness Protection‘, the first title in the ‘Protected Identities‘ series, and the fact that not only was Holly born on Christmas but the events that will fuel this intriguing romance have a deadline of Christmas Eve.
‘Christmas Witness Protection‘ hits the ground running as the action and the intrigue begin at the very first line of this story. Holly is a Corporal who has agreed to testify against her mentor/superior about missing weapons. She’s not the most popular person at the moment and has received death threats which is partly why she agreed to temporary witness protection. While being transported from one safe house, Holly and her escort are attacked, the officer killed, and while injured Holly is abducted. Fortunately for Holly, her escort had been on the phone with another detective during the chase and attack so Noah was already searching for her.
What follows a very fast-paced beginning will expose a vile enemy, several detectives who are not officially on duty for various reasons who band together to not only protect Holly but stop two dark web monsters from destroying countless lives, for the money, and simply because they can. Beyond this point, you should be reading ‘Christmas Witness Protection‘ firsthand for yourself. The action rarely lets up for long, the plot was full of twists and the unexpected, and the characters were all believable in their various roles. We’ll get to meet up with this band of detectives again as each will have their own story told throughout this series.
Neither Holly nor Noah were perfect. They each had differing issues that played a part in how they reacted to each other. For me, this only made them more human, more realistic even when I wanted to sit them down for a stern talking to over some of their actions. Yet, they worked well, and believably together. If I’d wished for a few more pages at the end to wrap up their romance a bit tighter, well, that’s the romantic in me speaking. I’m hoping that we’ll at least get glimpses of Holly and Noah as the ‘Protected Identities‘ series continues – time will tell. In all, I had a good time, enjoyed this world, and will be returning since I already have the next two stories on my TBR pile. (a new release is due in October 2020).
What a wonderful new start to a series! I have books 2, 3, and 4, and can hardly wait to continue reading about this cast of characters that Maggie K. Black has created. This first book is about Holly and Noah. Holly is an army corporal who found out some terrible information about her military mentor. She has told military authorities about the misdeeds and is now in Witness Protection. People are out to kill her. Thus enters Noah, who saves her life when kidnappers take her hostage. This is the story of a very brave woman who loves her country so much that she is willing to fight and die for justice and honor. This is the story of one man and his team of friends, 3 people he would trust with his life, and his computer hacker friend who is also in Witness Protection. This episode was filled with drama, action, and a Faith that puts God in the number one position of who to go to when there seems to be no hope for a living future. I gave this book 5 stars and will be reading book #2 in the series next.
Corporal Hildegard "Holly" Asher is in temporary Witness Protection waiting to testify against the General who was her mentor. She is removed under suspicious circumstances by a semi-retired RCMP and while enroute to a new location tailed and eventually kidnapped by 2 cyber terrorists. Detective Noah Wilder has been watching for suspicious activity and comes to her aid. There are 2 threats in this story that eventually get connected. This was a tense plot which endangered multiple people with lots of fights and close calls. I admired the loyalty of both leads but I just found it hard to believe all the super hero action, especially with the heroine having what seemed like a concussion through the whole thing.
From the very first page, Black creates a sense of urgency. Also, (a major plus!) she includes a kick-butt heroine! Christmas Witness Protection is action packed and definitely a page turner. The only reason this book did not receive five stars from me is because of the ending. I felt like the ending could have used more than a page or two. We have traveled with these characters and felt their emotion while trying to uncover the truth. I felt like the ending was rushed and could have used more explanation or emotion from the two main characters. However I want to reiterate that this was a great read, and I look forward to reading more of Black's work!
My first book by this author. I was caught up in the story right away and turned the pages as quickly as I could to find out where the story was going to take me. I enjoyed all the characters. Of course, it's a lot to believe that so much could happen in just six days. A deep belief in God by so many of the characters was interesting, too. I will definitely look for more of the books by this author.
I enjoyed this clean, suspenseful romance. I bought this at a local library sale. I've voluntarily chose to review this story and I have given it a 5* rating. Wow, this author has given us another edge of seat, hard to put down suspense. Plenty of bad guys out and about, doing their thing. Plenty of good guys and gals tracking them down. Enjoyed the hero and heroine and all those working with them. Most of the good guys win and work things out. Onto my next read.
This book caught my attention from the beginning and held it. I didn't want to put the book down (I even carried it around with me through the house in case I got a spare moment when dealing with kiddos). This is my first book from this author, and I would love to read more. There was danger and a mystery and a whole lot of suspense, family, and faith. It was a thrilling ride.
This is an exciting book. Action from the very beginning!!!! Nothing full about it. I found myself reading too fast because I wanted to know what was going to happen next!!
This book is about a woman that is in witness protection and someone kidnapped her and is trying to kill her. But a police officer is trying to save her life. And with that he fall in love with her. Good read.
Loved this book ! Thank you for your belief in God and all that goes with it !! God's speed and find your true love as I have. I am 58 and found an incredible women four years ago and I can't wait to marry her !!
Enjoyed this suspenseful book. The author did a good job of using current technology throughout. Good job on Corporal Holly Asher, a strong woman who wanted to be active in her case, but had to deal with the debilitating results of a concussion.
A better than average romantic suspense story that started with a bang and kept moving throughout. Every time I picked it up I was eager to see what would happen next.
The heroine is a dedicated military member bravely preparing to testify against her much-loved superior. Threats on her life have convinced her to accept witness protection till after the trial. Her initial relocation developes problems that send her on the run with the hero, a police detective determined to protect her. The twists and turns in the plot always felt believable (till the very end), and meant the tension never let up.
The MCs relationship definitely took a back seat to the story and I was fine with that. I did think the ending resolved a bit too quickly and conveniently but that didn't spoil the rest of the book.
I've never read anything by this author but I'll now be keeping my eyes open for the next in the series as well as her earlier books. Some of the characters here returned from earlier series but it wasn't a problem reading this first. I really enjoyed a quick, clean thriller that never got gruesome or glorified evil.
Talk about a great start to a new series. Meeting the characters Corporal Holly Asher and Detective Noah Wilder will set you on a fast paced story. Full of action and mystery trying to stay ahead of the bad guys, Maggie's story keeps you engaged. It keeps you guessing as to whom is the bad guy behind the mask. Which will surprise you in the end. Its a great mystery with just the right mix of a love story. J
Awesome book! The heroine, Holly, is everything you would expect in a Corporal. She is strong, determined, and driven, but she is still vulnerable... No one is invincible. She isn't used to needing help but will have to accept help from unexpected places in order to stay safe and save others in Wit-Sec like her. Noah is just the man for the job because together they are unstoppable!
A suspenseful thriller with a heroine, Holly, who is strong and competent even while suffering from a concussion for most of the story. Imagine if she'd been at her best! She meets her match in Noah, who complements her well. There was always something happening to keep you turning the pages, with a sweet romance.
Definitely a Hallmark kind of book. It was just the light hearted read I needed. While it had plenty of action, romance, friendship and family it maintained a wholesome feel to the whole book.
