I promised myself to read more cozy mysteries this year; however, I have not been able to keep up to that promise. Therefore, when the opportunity came for me to read and review The Dog-Eared Diary, I knew that this would be a small step in fulfilling that promise.
The synopsis for the book piqued my curiosity. I was keen to learn about Chrissy, the dog with the extraordinary gift and her mistress Autumn.
This was my first time reading the author’s work and she did not disappoint. Dog-Eared Diary is the first book in the series, but it can be easily read as a standalone. The author provided sufficient information, making it easy to follow the lives of the characters. After reading this installment, I am keen to read the first book to see the start of Autumn and Chrissy’s relationship.
Sibling rivalry, jealousy, greed, secrets, and of course murder were the themes of this cute, short and captivating story. The twist the author threw in during the first half of the story stirred things up and soon Autumn and Chrissy would find themselves in the middle of solving a mystery. In addition, Autumn would learn important information about her lineage. I like that the mystery kept me guessing for most of the story.
With a large suspect pool, figuring out the identity of the murderer(s) was not an easy task.
I enjoyed getting to know the main characters in this series. They were interesting and fun. Autumn suffered a devastating loss, which led to her having PTSD. Chrissy is her emotional support dog who helps her in those moments she would have a panic attack. They made a great team, and when it came to solving mysteries, Chrissy’s gift proved a big help. The secondary characters added to the atmosphere of the story. There was Ray, a detective and Autumn’s love interest and her best friend Stephanie, who was desperate to get a man. They both proved to be a great help to her.
Conclusion/ Recommendation
Overall an enjoyable read and one I would recommend to fans of cozy mysteries.

Autumn Clark and her adorable dog, Chrissy, are back with a new mystery to solve and just like the previous book the author did not disappoint. The story is filled with twists that caught me off guard and kept me entertained till the last part. But what I really appreciated in the story is the continuous growth of the characters. I also like that all the characters were very well characterized. They did not fell flat, which happens to a lot of secondary characters in other books. The author really made each character interesting and intriguing in a way that they have their own part of the story. I like how despite Autumn is dealing with post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety disorder with panic attacks, she is still strong and does not let her disorder takeover her life. She is inspirational in a way that even though she suffered a lot in the past, she is still very optimistic and has a very bright aura.
Furthermore, the story was a bit slow in the beginning but after 50 pages the plot begins to be interesting. I like that even though there was a bit of romance in the book it did not disrupt the flow and feel of the book being a mystery book. The motive of the crime was also believable and that the suspects are very unlikely, which really entertained me because I really though another character was the killer. In addition, I love how the book shows the wonderful and magical experience of being a pet owner and the irreplaceable bond that comes with it. I also commend the author for highlighting mental illness and the importance of therapy in this novel. This was a perfect fall read and I definitely recommend this if you are looking for a quick and light mystery book.

I love cozy mysteries. If they have animals, recipes or cute small town settings well that makes it even better.
This is the second book in a series and I definite want to go back and read book 1, because this one was so cute and everything I love in a cozy mystery.
Chrissy the Shih Tzu is really a character in the book and not just a prop to help the story along. Chrissy often felt like she was going to start talking. I loved the relationship between Autumn and her dog. The love the two of them have is absolutely perfect.
I love Autumn and her friends as well. They make for a fun and entertaining story.
This was a really interesting read, as Autumn has learned some new things about her heritage and has inherited the Peabody fortune, along with a few mysteries, including who killed her cousin Oxnard.
OK, I was kind of confused a bit by Oxnard and Beatrice. I really needed to know their ages. Beatrice seemed to be around the same age as Autumn and her friend Stephanie. (as she was having a fling with the gardener/landscaper, Greg) But I couldn't really figure out how old Oxnard was. He was young enough to go in a dunk tank, but old enough not to want to be taken to a hospital when it was obvious he might die. Also, Oxnard? Where did that name come from?
There are so many great little mysteries and scandals that are discovered along the way, and her romance with Ray is quite nice too, along with Stephanie and her dating life.
Its a quick read too at only 170 pages.
Perfect for a rainy afternoon and one any cozy mystery fan will enjoy. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is the second book I've read from this particular series, and again, this author did not disappoint! This is a completely cozy mystery with nothing inappropriate nor any gratuitous violence included within the fast-paced fun mystery. And every reader will fall in love all over again with Crissy, the sharp and cute Shih Tzu.
What I appreciate most about the author is the snappy way she tells this story. If you haven't read any other books in the series, not to worry. The author will get you up to snuff, and you will have no problem following the action. The book is easy to read but filled with action and fun. The mystery is a bit baffling at time, but ultimately, that's what you want. The author gives the readers just enough information to keep them on their toes, and I definitely plan on reading more in the series!
I also love the fact that the supporting cast of characters is fleshed out. Sometimes in mysteries (and books in general), the characters who are not the main focus tend to fall flat. Not so in this book. Every person in the story had a purpose and a complete presence within the tale. I applaud the author for her use of so many clever writing devices within a rather brief cozy mystery. Nothing seemed contrived nor out-of-place. I hope that someone makes the decision to adapt these books to the screen because it would make one amazing mystery series!

Autumn and her shih tzu, Chrissy, are back for another mystery. You would not believe how Chrissy helps Autumn solve the mysteries in her home town. This mystery is surrounded by more than just the murders that happen. It has some family intrigue for Autumn who thought she was alone in the world since her parents' car crash.
I am a huge dog lover so truly enjoy books that have pets in them. Chrissy is a cute little dog, whereas all of mine are rather large, and has been a support dog for Autumn during the eight months since her parents died. Autumn takes her everywhere with her. The two of them have a telepathic communication ability. It is the strangest thing but works well with them.

Digging up secrets can be deadly
Fabulous. What a wonderful plot filled with old grudges, a skeleton, poison, murders, attempted murder, family secrets and jealousy. Absolutely riveting stuff. Loved getting to know the characters better, their interactions and the motives that drive them. The dogs however need a special mention from the stoic guardian Ace to the adorable, clue sniffing Chrissy and their utter commitment to the humans that they have taken under their paw.
An annual fete is turned into a crime scene when Chrissy digs up part of a human hand and then later when a man dies from poisoning. But not before he shares the information that she is next in line to inherit. But who killed him and why? As they investigate more and more secrets are revealed from affairs, murder and kidnapping. Will they stop the killer and clean up their little town? Plus how will she cope when the information becomes public? Can she build up her family members and possibly create a new one?

The bond between a gal and her dog is simply amazing and makes for a wonderful read! Chrissy, the Shih Tzu, provides an endless supply of comfort, companionship, and love for Autumn. Together, they face stress and anxiety; but it doesn't take long to add a twist of distraction by whipping the gal and her dog into a mystery. One murder changes everything Autumn thought she knew about her family and puts her in place as the owner of a mansion everyone wants. Chrissy is a lot of fun and the perfect best friend! I didn't read the first book in the series but I will be going back to check it out even though this can be a standalone. The friendship and connections, as well as the pace through the mystery made for a perfect rainy-day read!

First of all…. I LOVE that Diane wrote so eloquently and made me feel like Chrissy was a human. Often times, I forgot that I was reading about a dog. LOVE IT! This book kept me completely interested and engaged with each mystery that came along. Even though Chrissy is a little dog, this book had BIG twists and turns that left me turning pages and not wanting to put the book down!
Being a dog lover, I love that the characters were super loving and passionate towards their fur babies. Even though this is a mystery, their love and connections made this book also have a hint of warmth. I love this book and encourage any dog and mystery lover to grab it and enjoy! Great fall book!

When a prominent businessman is murdered, Autumn discovers that she is, in fact, the next in line to inherit the Peabody fortune. Autumn suspects more than a couple of people of the murder, and with her surprise inheritance, she is put in more danger than ever before. But with the extraordinary power that her little companion Chrissy secretly welds, Autumn can solve the murder in no time at all.
I love the combo of Autumn and Chrissy, and how they comfort each other. This had a great plot and I enjoyed the unexpected twists, and how everything unfolded. The rest of the characters fit in smoothly and helped to make this a very enjoyable read.

The Dog-Eared Diary: A Chrissy the Shih Tzu Mystery is my first foray into the cozy mystery genre. I'm a dog obsessed dog mom and thoroughly enjoyed this book. The Dog-Eared Diary is a fun, fast-paced and entertaining mystery. It held my interest and I didn’t want to put it down. The characters were charming and I fell in love with little Chrissy the Shih Tzu immediately. Diane Wing portrayed the bond between Autumn and Chrissy realistically. Their relationship is a great example of the importance of the human and animal bond. I'm excited to dive into the first book in the series and anxiously awaiting more adventures with Autumn and Chrissy.

I really enjoyed this mystery. It is one you could easily enjoy in one sitting and I love those kind of books. You will not want to put this one down. It keeps you interested easily with lots going on, but in no way confusing, just entertaining and fun, with twists and turns! I fell in love with Chrissy, the Shih Tzu and love how helpful she is to Autumn! I was bummed when it ended and look forward to another story in the series!

The Dog-Eared Diary is a wonderful new installment in the Chrissy series. Chrissy is more than your average dog, and her owner Autumn has found herself at the center of yet another mystery. Everything Autumn knew about her family comes into question as the past intertwines with the present. Together Autumn and Chrissy are the sweetest mystery solvers around. You won't want to miss this puzzler, which is perfect for cuddling up with a nice cup of tea on a breezy autumn afternoon!

I enjoyed this book. There is a lot going on in this book and it's so much more than just a good mystery. I had visions of a baddie from a Scooby Doo cartoon rubbing his hands together and muttering I would have got away with it too, if it were for those pesky kids and there dog. Although the story is fun it is nothing like Scooby Doo and it's a well worked and entertaining mystery. There was a number of twists and surprises, which meant I had no clue who the killer was, Thank goodness for Autumn and of course Chrissy. They are a dream team, that is fun to spend time with. While it's not a paranormal story as such, Chrissy and Autumn have a special bond that let's the little dog show Autumn what she has seen, somehow this works and gives the series a special and unique spark.. I listened to this book out of order because I enjoyed book four so much I had to go back to the beginning to see what I had missed. Each story is written as a standalone but why miss out on the magic that is Chrissy and Autumn.
After the death of her parents, Autumn with the help of her shih tzu, Chrissy, is finally coming to terms with aftermath of the car crash. But the unexpected discovery of a buried body and the summons to visit a dying man has her questioning everything she knows about her family. On his death bed, the towns philanthropist reveals that Autumn is the next in line to inherit the Peabody vast inheritance. His sister was adopted and while she thinks she is entitled to the fortune, the will leaves her with nothing. Autumn might not have know her relative before he died but with him having been poisoned, she is going to get to know him. Ever if it means reading a long forgotten diary, it might just give her a clue as to who is buried in the field too. Was he killed for the inheritance and if so has Autumn just become a target?
I liked the narrator. She has a pleasant voice that is easy to listen too.

“I finished reading Book #2 of Chrissy’s mystery series – The Dog Eared Diary – and I loved it. It definitely fit into the cozy mystery theme and I was snuggled up in the living room with my cats reading it. The book is well written, easy to follow without 16 million confusing plot variances and people, enough mystery to make you want to keep reading and full of love and understanding from the perspective of an abused person (Abigail Peabody, Ann McCarthy and Beatrice Peabody). So sorry for the untimely deaths of Oxnard Peabody and Barbara McCarthy. There was so much for Autumn to learn from these two and now, the chance to do it is lost. I also liked the redemption of Jasper Wiggins and the personality change of Beatrice Peabody towards the end of the story. Nice to know there’s hope for everybody if they care to take the challenge and change their mindset.

This was my first experience with Diane Wing's work, and it was very charming. I liked the smalltown setting. I thought the characters were interesting and complex. I found the relationship between Autumn and Chrissy, her Shih Tzu adorable. I appreciated that the author brought attention to the use of animals as therapy companions, and how important they can be to the health of an individual. Lou Campbell's narration was fine and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

So lame. The actual story could have been written in a forth of the pages, but the excruciatingly boring and extensive detail took up the other 3 forths. Why do we need to know exactly how many times the dog chews its grain-free freakin kibble or when it has a bowel movement or how MUCH she loves it?! The writer (notice I didn't say author) has gone WAY overboard on minutiae.

Chrissy pup and her people face many challenges in this book.
Unexpected twists to family history yield some dark and nasty secrets from the past, and painful and dangerous present events and encounters.
Romance is also in the air. It goes mostly oh so wrong, but perhaps once at least goes right.
Sweet romance meets many mysteries and whodunnits.

Enjoyed this because it was a fast read, and I was already familiar with the characters and setting. Plus, I was still getting Shih Tzu tips for my puppy Zuzu.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the previous novel. I don’t love historical fiction, so this may just be a matter of personal preference, but I found the storyline to be boring. I also thought that the plot of Autumn discovering she’s a Peabody to be somewhat ridiculous and the ending when a surprise 3rd culprit is revealed to be overkill.
3.5/5 stars I once again appreciated that this novel was clean with no cursing or inappropriate descriptions, but I would suggest ages 12+ due to storylines of adultery and domestic violence (nothing scary or graphic, but may be inappropriate for younger readers). I just didn’t love the subject matter being about a murder that took place in olden times or the focus on the killer being a local playboy. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series and enjoyed seeing Autumn and Ray’s relationship grow stronger.

‘The Dog-eared Diary’ is the first book I have read by this author, and I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.
The book is about Autumn Clarke, a dog owner to the adorable schih-tzu Chrissy. Together they provide comfort for one another, Chrissy helping Autumn overcome panic attacks and anxiety, whilst in exchange Autumn provides endless pampering and spoilage.
When a body is found during a festival, it unlocks a barrage of mysteries, mysteries that Autumn did not know she would end up being a part of. She learns that her family tree does not quite run how she believed, and she is now the owner of a much sought after mansion.
But the mansion is not all that it is believed to be, as it is rumoured to be the catalyst of a string of bad luck and unfortunate occurrences for the once famous Peabody family.
But when Oxnard Peabody mysteriously dies, it all spells foul play, especially when lab tests show he appears to have been poisoned. Autumn and her trusty sidekick Chrissy can’t help but investigate. Will a mysterious diary provide evidence of motive? And who will the discovered body turn out to be?
This book has a really good pace, and it reeled me in within the first few pages. Autumn is very likeable, and you can’t help but fall in love with her boyfriend Ray who is always there to protect her, and her man-eater friend Stephanie.
The book is part of a series, but as this is the first book I’ve read and I did not feel like I was missing any crucial details, it most certainly can be read as a stand-alone.
Wing has developed a very well thought out murder mystery, that will well and truly keep you guessing. With each clue uncovered you feel like you are hot in the tail of the murderer, and you will love the grand finale!

Autumn Clarke and her lovable little dog Chrissy are back with a very interesting story this time around. When Oxnard Peabody passes away not only is it determined that it was murder but Autumn soon finds herself as the soul benefactor of the Peabody inheritance! It comes as shock to Autumn discovering that her lineage of being a Clarke was actually untrue and she is angry to find out that her father knew before he died in the car crash - Autumns world is fairly turned upside down, and I can wholeheartedly understand her hurt and anger towards her father, but she soon realises that he was sworn to secret regarding his lineage and she would only find out when the time was right due to stipulations in the inheritance.
Oxnard sister Beatrice is also angry at being cut out of the will, as she thought she stood to inherit everything! Imagine her surprise to discover then when she lost her brother she gained a cousin she knew nothing about - and there was a very good reason why - which I am not going to spoil you will just need to read the book to find out that story!
As it becomes more apparent that Oxnard was murdered the suspect pool looks towards Beatrice as being suspect number one and the housekeeper Greg a close second. The story has me hooked from the get go and I loved our interaction between Autumn and Chrissy and her little special ability. The story sends you a roller coaster ride as you try to piece it all together and when a body is found during the town festival the identity of which connects everything together, the story definitely keeps you on your toes.
I cant wait to see what Diane Wing has in store for duo next!

Super-cute!! A continuation of the story of Autumn Clarke and her dog, Chrissy. Autumn discovers a secret about herself that is life-changing and has to come to terms with it.
Meanwhile, a prominent citizen in the town dies unexpectedly. Autumn, suspects his death was murder and, with help from Chrissy - who is able to communicate by telepathically showing Autumn things she's witnessed - sets out to prove it and find his murdered.
We're reintroduced to Autumn's love interest, Ray, and his retired police dog, Ace, as well as several of Autumn's friends and neighbors.
I had fun reading this book and am looking forward to Autumn and Chrissy's next adventure.

Cute, Cuddly but so smart Chrissy
As much as I loved the first book, the second book is even better. Chrissy is not cute, cuddly but so smart. As a dog owner myself of two rat terriers, I could not even love more about my dogs. This book is not only for dog lovers but best if you are a fan of mystery genre.
This is such a beautiful, heart-warming and full of suspense story. It is hard to put it down. It makes your heart beats so fast. Autumn and Chrissy's ability is beyond me. These two are inseparable. It is also a beautiful love story. The power to forgive is so amazing. Kindness will never out-powered than being greedy and hateful.

This is such a fun read! Autumn is getting herself back on track when everything in her life changes in the blink of an eye. As she's reeling from the changes she finds a diary and sinks herself into the information it contains.
