A brand new story from the much-loved Simon’s Cat as he goes over to the bark side.
While patrolling his territory, Simon’s Cat dips into the lives of the many dogs in his neighbourhood, including crazy poodles, a lovestruck bulldog and a pack of mischievous puppies. With characteristic style and wit, Simon Tofield’s brilliantly observed illustrations capture the comical capers of different dog breeds, and some a-meow-sing encounters with their feline counterparts.
Simon started drawing cartoons at an early age and went to study Graphics and Animation at De Montfort University. He has a great interest in British wildlife, painting, the great outdoors and of course cats. He now works in London as an animator and director at Tandem Films. Simon lives in Bedfordshire with this three cats: Hugh, Maisie, Jess and Teddy.
And so we come to the latest Simons Cat instalment - now I will be the first to admit that these books are hardly challenging with no words and simple single page or even single pane cartoons - however anyone who has owned (or is that owned by) a cat will instantly recognise many traits and personalities shown in these pages.
However this time there is a twist - now Simons Cat is exploring the world of dogs with all their crazy different breads, personalities and interactions with cats. What you have here is a jovial and light hearted look at the dogs (and how cats rule them) lives.
I have been following Simons cat in all their many stories and it always amazes me that there are new and fun stories to tell - then again I look at my collection of felines and realise that everyday the potential for something new and strange to happen is just waiting there at my feet, or is that desk or sofa - well you get the idea
I, like Tofield, am a big fan of both cats and dogs and this delicious little book hits just the right note on what happens when these two very different species interact:) No good guys, no bad guys--just a Mars meets Venus sort of scenario. Hilarious!
Simon's Cat continues his adventures, this time venturing out into the neighborhood and interacting with the numerous and various dogs he finds there. The Kitten also gets involved. The drawings vary from single pane stories to several that are read as a continuation. Sometimes Cat wins, sometimes he doesn't. The actions are mostly friendly, but a bunch of overly-friendly puppies can seem like a losing situation. Cute. Fun. A couple are baffling. Wordless drawings are mostly fine, but not always.
Can't really say that I have "read" this book, no writing to read, but the cartoons are funny. A good way to spend the afternoon if you are flu bound in bed.
I liked the cute and funny pictures stories of Simon's Cat and Kitten with the dogs in the Neighborhood. I bought this newest one to keep on my bookshelf.
