Anything that was nothing wasn’t human... Stolen from her old life. Stripped of her humanity. Robbed of her voice. Nothing but a number... Lost and alone, she collapsed at the feet of men, silently pleading for help. Only one came forward, protected and defended her from the jackals lusting for blood. With no voice, no ID, no belongings, she was nobody, she was nothing. Inconsequential in the revolving wheel of life. For Connor O'Malley, she was an angel, fallen from the heavens. Broken and battered, scared spitless of everything and everyone, he knew he had one hell of a job ahead of him. Her wounds were man-made, inflicted by a cruel hand, but the dirty, bloodied girl at his feet couldn't tell him anything of what happened to her. The brand seared into her flesh spoke volumes, but nothing could prepare him for the full atrocity of what had been done to her. Death stalks her, wants her back. How long can she remain speechless?
I have watched so much true crime that I am finding everything they do extremely problematic. I’m only 2% in and have already taken on the role of a police officer and a psychologist, so in my non-professional opinion I am horrified 😂
⚠️Spoiler Alert - For only 2% of the book⚠️
So the book starts with the FMC walking down a road and talking about having escaped someone. She then stumbles into a bar and is accosted by drunk men, before she is saved by the town doctor. A fight occurs, he single handedly takes down loads of men … blah blah blah.
After the fight, he noticed ligature marks on her wrists and ankles, as well as scars and bruising. She also shows him that she is branded and it says the word ‘whore’. These are pretty serious injures. So for Christ sake, why does this man decide it will be a good idea to take off her clothes, start calling her ‘baby’ and use this time to think about things like ‘her pretty little mouth’. Honestly so gross.
Some content for the clothes situation. He is a doctor (who gave this man a medical degree) and decides that her clothes ‘stink’ and she is probably cold, so he decides he needs to take off her shirt (she is only wearing a shirt).
No.1. This is EVIDENCE. You have seen her injuries, don’t f*cking touch it. Cover her with a blanket like you intended, but don’t bugger up potential forensics. His brother is also a police officer. This man is stupid.
No.2. You don’t know what shit this girl has been through, so why would you think having her get naked, in a bar, in front of 2 STRANGE MEN, would be a good idea. I just don’t understand…
Calling her ‘baby’ just didn’t match the severity of the scene. It really wasn’t the time for pet names. Again that could triggering for her, but ‘he’s a doctor’, so should probably know this already or use common sense.
Despite mentioning several times how disgusted and sympathetic he feels towards her, the ‘pretty little mouth’ comment caught me off guard. AGAIN, it was not the right time or place or situation for this weird ass comment. After seeing all her injuries what normal man would be thinking that. It’s so problematic.
In my opinion, a better book to read that deals with kidnapping and the aftermath, but also romance later on is Broken by J.L Drake. The first book in the best in this series, the following books have a lot more plot twists, but I still liked them.
I honestly am shocked that I have written this much, based on reading 2%, but the MMC just kept getting worse and I was constantly screaming wtf at the page.
I may be thinking about this too logically, but it needs to at least feel a little believable.
An interesting lesson this book teaches early on is that doctors are not always smart people. If he was real, there would be no doubt in my mind that this man would catch a case.
Update/ Note to self: This book was recently recommended to me again, so I thought I would go back in with an open mind and try again. This was a mistake Vee…stop trying to like a book because so many other people like it. You don’t the MMC his behaviour is bizarre. Am I overthinking this ? Because I personally need fact in my fiction 😅
The plot's pretty much ugh... clueless? Seriously, someone beaten up turns up and you immediately give them a sedative/muscle relaxant and a pelvic? Wow. Ethical...
Some funny phrases: Q: He screamed Sheriff from his pores. (c)
Worthy of **10 Stars** This is one of the most intense, dark, harrowing, emotionally gutting books I've read. And I've read A LOT, A LOT of dark & harrowing books. But what ratchets the emotional impact to staggering levels in this story, is the superb quality of writing. Superb writing, plot & characters IMO. Frankly, this one BLEW ME AWAY. Via Jenna's (heroine) POV the author takes the reader deep, deep, deeper into the horror she lived, survived & finally managed to escape from to safety. We become intimately familiar with her perceptions, her terrors, her panic, her catatonic shutdowns; our hearts & emotions are effortlessly grasped & controlled by the author's deft writing. In another's hands this story could have been too stark, too abrupt, too pared down to merely the shock value of Jenna's situation, leaving the reader empathetic but somehow distanced from the heroine. But this author actually takes time to build Jenna's present via her past, to swirl the reader into this small Montana area that is home to an absolutely heinous evil. Some may think the author should have made this book shorter. No. Just no. It is FLAT OUT PERFECT. I am not one to easily (if at all) tear up during reading: I did. A LOT. A LOT. The author (IMO) does a stellar job investing the reader in her characters, especially Jenna, Connor (H) & Sarah (Connor's employee). And yet, for every emotional plunge into dark deep waters, a completely uplifting heartwarming ray of sunshine bursts through the dark to light the way to hope, a future, friends, love. And Connor (H), the man who saves Jenna, cares for her, stands by her, protects her, LOVES her: could a more AWESOME man exist?! Via his POV the reader is privy to his gentleness, his concern, his worry, his rage & determination to keep Jenna safe. And yet, he comes across (& indeed is) as an everyday man. No superpowers, or strength, or brilliance, or billions, just a man who loves & treasures a severely traumatized woman teetering on the razor's edge of shattering & doing everything in his power to help her heal & regain herself. And I loved Sarah, tough, relentless in the defense of those she loves, loyal & stoic. As well as Cain (Connor's brother), Sarah's husband plus an understanding & gentle but strong Federal Agent. All of these secondary characters greatly added to the story, never mired it or detracted from it. There wasn't ONE single part I skipped or was tempted to. Not one. There is a light DD/bg theme in the book (it is throughout the story but isn't heavy handed, mostly pet names & physical cuddling/support); Jenna's 'little' is triggered by memories of her horrific experience & is her way to cope when panicked, unsure or frightened. And Connor is there for her in any way she needs, as a 'big' or 'little'. But I warn you, this one IS dark, you WILL need tissues (many of them), you WILL smile & you WON'T want to stop reading this one until the last page. For the reader who wants a book with substance, with superb writing, a heartbreaking yet heartwarming plot, with stellar character details, with terror, suspense, danger, some steam; who want a story & characters they are invested in, intrigued by, love & hate, this is IT.
Wow! Just, wow! This book is deeply emotional, troubling and dark, but not from the hero. I loved Connor and his heartfelt protective ways. It was the first and foremost thought he had when he first sees Jenna and it only grows as the story continues.
This has a lot of the heroine’s memories and they are horrifying. She’s lost in her own mind, unable to speak and unable to trust anyone. But with Connor’s love and Sarah’s friendship, she slowly begins to make a new life, to relearn herself and what she looks like on the inside now after the nightmare she’s lived through.
The relationship between Connor and Jenna was absolutely beautiful, even when she got lost in her head at times. I was concerned when he first pulled the Dom attitude with her and the daddy kink kicked in some. I’m not a fan of b/d/s/m and while I understood why it worked with her, I was disappointed that element was going to be used. Fortunately, it didn’t take the story over but I suspect if the next book involves this same couple, it will and I will probably skip it if it does.
However, I’m glad I tried this book and I would definitely try something else by this author.
Why are the ratings on this so high? There were so many red flags and reasons why I couldn't finish this book. 1. The MC keeps calling the heroine 'baby' right off the bat....like what, no just no! Terms of endearment for a clearly abused stranger is creepy and disturbing. 2. The MC proceeds to do a rape kit on the heroine without even explaining what he was going to do first. I understand she was out of it but sedating her and doing a rape kit without asking first was a bit hard to believe and may also be illegal. 3. The heroine was obviously a virgin, which is great for the MC hero cause they love those, especially since they revealed he is a Dom and into BDSM in the most contrived way ever! Imagine making an abused girl your submissive after you found her abused by her supposed previous Dom who for some reason did not use her for sex, just to beat her. What??? No!!!! I rolled my eyes so hard at that. I just could not find it in me to continue this story. So much was not working right from the beginning. I don't need that kind of torture.
Dnf 43% Just nope. A big NO. The girl is abused by the villain to the point that she is suffering age regression and the Hero (who is a doctor btw) suddenly decides that the dominant in him can also cover Daddy Dom duties and kink? I can't😑
I have a problem.....I don't think any words I say can truly express how this story made me feel. I was pulled in from page one, the story of Jenna wasn't just a dark romance....it's a story of damage, torture, pain and finally, hopefully healing and love. Jenna, oh my goodness, the pain she endured, I was in tears for her but also in awe of her strengths. How she kept going I just don't know. And Connor, just a man, one who's had his share of loss and pain in his life but nothing prepared him for Jenna.....his heart knew she was important from the beginning but is there any chance she'll ever be able to over come her trauma, pain and bone deep fear?? This had it all, Sarah....his faithful friend who I grew to love......Cain the brother I'd love to ummm, meet in person and a whole cast of other characters who filled this wondeful world up and made me feel a part of it. Just have to say....this has it all......I felt ALL the feels and was left with a huge emotional book hangover! Best feeling ever!
This book actually has left me speechless. I don't even know what to think, I will say that even though I didn't agree with the way things panned out it was well-written and I couldn't put it down. I'll be back hopefully with a more detailed review.
Please note the h was horrifically abused. (Not by the H)
Twenty-two is the number assigned to the “it” held captive for over two years. Not allowed an identity, or to speak and barely to eat. Desperation and a will to survive has this young lady escaping into the arms of the local doctor. Bloody, bruised and with infected welts; she does not know her name and must overcome incredible physical and mental challenges.
Our intrepid doctor Connor has a fabulous team of helpers including his nurse Sarah. All champion the recovery of the newly named “Jenna”. Such an emotional journey.
This is full of edge-of-your-seat twists, tears and laughter, and further danger on the horizon. Gritty and tender. The perfect dichotomy of dark and light. An incredible read!!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
"Part of her, the innocent she was, cowered in deference to the beast chained behind Connor’s calm outward façade. Another part of her shouted for joy at the newfound knowledge she wasn’t the only one with something locked away. And the third part of her, the part kept segregated from society and that had taken the biggest hits from Sire, simply threw back its head in a howl and beckoned Connor’s dark side to join her."
I always feel guilty when I skip over an ARC commitment, that feeling of failing to uphold my commitment. This was one of those, but not because I wasn't interested......I dreaded it the moment I realized it was a lengthy one. Lengthy novels are usually a big no for me, with the author using excessive filler & fluff instead of telling a story that doesn't need it. Pair that with the fact the blurb reminded me an awful lot of the Dollars series which I LOVE, I just didn't want to be let down. So was I? It was NOTHING like the Dollars series, but in all the best ways. From the very first sentence I was trapped within the pages of this story. It was tragic & hard to read but also beautiful & inspiring. In fact, it took me almost a week to read because it was such a hard one to get through. But every single ounce of pain was worth the touching love story hidden beneath.
"Her body might be weakened from abuse, her mind a little messed up with a forgotten past and months of mental anguish, but the core of her was pure fucking titanium."
Book Facts: Told in dual POV, Speechless is a DARK standalone that features several triggering subjects (recounts of captivity/brutality/torture as well as the trauma of "healing" after such events). It does include a happy ending. It's a story about one woman who has gone through hell & pulled off the impossible by escaping it, and the man who devotes & sacrifices eveything to heal and to love her. Their journey is tough & a true battle, but their love is special. Side Note: Does include the Daddy/lg aspect BUT its done in a non-sexual way.
“Cry it out, Jenna. Use that pretty voice and give me the weight.” Hands stroking, body rocking, Connor anchored her as the vicious hurricane of emotion chewed her up and spat her out. “Good girl. Good girl, baby. Let me take it. Give it all to me.”
Timeline of Thoughts: Starting:I've put this off for far too long, I have a gut feeling that was a bad idea. 2%:My gut was right, this is a book you DO NOT ignore. I am trapped in this story with no desire to be set free. 8%:Most of the time when a book takes this turn in similar situations, I eye roll....majorly. But it makes sense here --- she NEEDS this because its essentially all she knows (just in a much different way). 15%:Never expected to get that POV but it was another hard necessity in this storytelling. 25%:I have so much to do but can't bring myself to put this book down..... This is special. 29%:Sarah is seriously my hero in this book. 31%:I would give up a kidney just to spend a night letting Cain talk dirty to me. He DEFINITELY has a way with words. 33%:PLEASE don't let this aspect dilute the intensity & beauty of this story. I couldn't handle it. 35%:I keep worrying that "Sire" is much closer than we think. 41%:This is such a fascinating story, I feel like I'm watching a crime mini - series or something. 48%:I LOVE Cain, like seriously. 53%:I am DYING to know who he is.....its a miracle I haven't lost all self control and flipped ahead. However, I have a GUT feeling who someone else is & if I'm right.... this entire thing just got way more fucked up. 59%:My heart is completely torn up from how broken she is. 63%:Its got to be who I think it is, GOT TO BE. 71%:I REALLY hate her parents right now. 80%:I SO KNEW IT! Side Note: this has been one of my hardest reads to date. 90%:I LOVE Sarah.... like so so much. The Abernathy clan on the other hand? Not at all. 98%:I seriously love how he is with her. 99%:I KNEW IT! There HAS to be some kind of follow-up to wrap that storyline up. Finished:Never has it taken me so long to read a book that I loved, but this one "time outs" were essential.
"The Five": Loves from Book: Her "new" family (Cain/Sarah/Zeke/Hadley/Marianne), the "humming" & her first word, Moose & Luna, "Sunshine" & the porn incident, "big personality" Honorable Mention: "baby", first shower/first smile Hates from Book: Caleb, Sire, Mark, her parents, "the epilogue"-issue not being 100% wrapped up. Quotes: “Have you managed to get anything out of her yet?” Connor just rolled his eyes. “No. I’ve been just a little busy trying to piece her back together.” -Caleb & Connor
“You’ll be introduced as top dog,” Cain replied easily. He swigged again, swallowed, looked at Jenna. “Sarah could charm the rainbow off a goddamn tight-assed leprechaun, and who the fuck does like Chad the mailman? The man’s a narcissistic prick with a God complex. Holding people’s mail hostage,” he muttered with a snarl that brought Jenna’s attention swinging over to him. “Sorry, beautiful, go back to your movie.” -Cain
“And when Sire comes for me? What gift am I offering then?” “Sunshine, you leave that fucker to us. I’ve got a present of my own for that asshole.” -Jenna & Cain
“You okay, Jenna?” he asked gruffly, nuzzling her ear. “Just... resting.” She grunted in an unladylike fashion as his drives became harder, deeper, spearing to the very core of her in smooth, fast rhythm. “You keep... working hard, okay?” -Connor & Jenna
“And you are?” “Your worst fucking nightmare.” -Sarah
Honorable Mention: “There is no one else like you in this world, sunshine.” -Cain
Final Thoughts:
Me Currently:
1. I knew before I finished the first page this book was going to completely & irrevocably DESTROY me. This is a book everyone should read but not everyone is going to be able to handle & cope with. I was in pain (I'm talking that deep ache in your chest & twist in your stomach) for a majority of the book. 2. When the Daddy/lg aspect was introduced into this story, I instantly cringed. Not because I have anything against it, but because I felt it would dilute the impact this book was capable of making. Instead, Kay used that aspect as a tool in her storytelling to further show just how hard Jenna's captivity & recovery was. Ex of her "naivety/innocence: His penis - “It’s not a weapon.” Sure looked like one. Jenna looked down at her hand, doubted she’d be able to enclose it in her fingers. When he comes - "Oh God, oh God, she’d broken him." Instead of it being "sexy", its one more way to break your heart while also healing it with their love for each other. 3. I loved quite a few of the support characters in this book, but none quite as much as I did Cain (Sarah was a close 2nd). I loved his love & devotion to his brother, his protectiveness & support of Jenna from the very start. How he is with her & how he will do whatever is necessary for both of them just made my heart melt. Plus, the way he talks is just....yum. “You, little one, should be made love to for your first time. Slow hands and careful fingers stroking, teasing this warrior’s body. So many scars and old hurts that need to be kissed, worshipped, because each one made you into the woman you are now.” 4. I am a big fan of dark romance, I've read things A LOT darker than this. With that said, this one was still a tough one to get through at times. If you aren't used to "dark" or if your idea of dark is hardcore BDSM, this may be "too much" for you. Just know, the hero does nothing disturbing to the heroine & the majority of the book is her recovery & flashbacks of said abuse. 5. The identity of whoever is responsible for Jenna's state is a secret until pretty much the bitter end. I won't even hint to who it is BUT I will say that there will be certain elements that shock you.
“I’m nothing without you.” “Bullshit. You were a strong, brave woman without me, Jenna. The man doesn’t make a woman— she makes him.”
Overall, this was an absolutely phenomonal read. Yes it is heartbreaking. Yes it made me rage-out and feel nauseous at times. It even frustrated me a time or ten. BUT what it also did was tell a love story I haven't heard before which I thought was an impossibility.....considering I've read almost 300 books this year. Its totally worth every ounce of emotion it pulls from you so take a chance & grab your tissues.
“There are scars that won’t ever go away and wounds that won’t heal properly in our lifetime, but I’ll carry them with you, baby. Between the both of us, we can carry that burden and turn it into something you can be proud of in the years to come."

This was my first read by this author. The story is suspenseful, though it’s quite slow paced early on in the story. There are a couple of great twists throughout the novel, one which makes me wonder if there’s going to be a sequel, but as of the writing of this review, there hasn’t been one announced yet. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the relationship. Jenna is an interesting character, though I wasn’t the biggest fan of her as a romance novel heroine. At times, she reverts back into a little girl, which makes her doctor developing a relationship with her feel a little sleazy. Jenna is incredibly damaged from her time in captivity, and I couldn’t help but find myself relating to her family, who wants to take her away from Connor, the man who rescued her and who she’s grown unhealthily attached to. It’s mentioned that Connor is 38 years old at one point, and I honestly feel like he should have empathized with her family a little more. I totally understand his anger, but still. All in all, this is a suspenseful and sweetly romantic read.
Every once in a while fate smiles on you and leads you to discover an author that has never made a blip on your radar and a book that you could have so easily never stumbled across. This is exactly my situation with this amazing author and this stunning read. I must say that it is a very big challenge to try to find the words to describe my feelings for this book and its characters. To say that reading this book will send you and your emotions on a roller coaster ride just doesn't seem to do it justice. The feels that this story inspires are will truly push your heart and your mind to the limit. I also think that it is essential to issue a huge TRIGGER WARNING for this book. As incredible as I believe this book to be, it is filled with dark and disturbing content. If kidnapping, physical, emotional and sexual abuse are issues for you I highly recommend you do not try to read this book. If you find dark content to be too much for you or just not to your liking, you will not want to read this book. However, if you can keep an open mind and have nerves of steel I highly recommend that you read this astounding book.
This book will quickly ensnare you in its powerful story. This book was very well written. It features a storyline that is as beautiful as it is ugly and as terrifying as it is filled with hope. This read is jam packed with deep emotions, drama, angst, heartache, brutality, suspense, mystery, heat, sweetness, tenderness, poignancy, humor, friendship and love. Combine all that with the harrowing tale of a young woman's abduction, torture, eventual escape and her painful struggle on the road to recovery and you know that this is a book that will leave a mark forver on your heart, mind and possibly even your soul.
The cast of characters in this book is strong and complex. From the mains, to the secondaries; they all inspire intense feelings from the reader. I can't even count all the tears I cried for Jenna. She may have needed her coping mechanisms but she was so, so strong and she had the most beautiful soul. The atrocities she endured will make your skin crawl, your stomach turn and leave your heart shattered into pieces. And as for that coping mechanism, it is light dd/lg. This is something that I know not everyone is a fan of but in this case I thought it fit the story to a t and this was all about her needing protection, kindness and care and really had very little to do with anything sexual. So again, please keep an open mind. Connor was just an impeccable book boyfriend. This doctor was one hot, protective, caring, dominate, white knight of a hero. These two were quite simply perfect for each other and 100 percent meant to be.
In the end all I can do is tell you how much I adored this book and that I recommend it highly to any and all that think they are up to taking this epic and emotional journey with Jenna and Connor. I'll warn you to try to prepare yourself for how hard this book is going to hit you but I know that that is a waste of my breath because you can't. Trust me, you just can't.
BLINDING Rendered SPEECHLESS! OMG! Right from the start I was rendered speechless with a prickling feeling of fear and overcome to read a whole heck of alot faster but riding the edge for uncontrollable shaking fear of the unknown. The story it's self is dark disturbing and described in graphic detail that it's impossible to see or feel every veil word or to shed the effects the darkness puts your emotions through. With this being said of all the brilliant writing poured into this twisted read the words that struck me the most was... She Bored Him. My heart lept my stomach sank and I felt cold and numb all while trying to restrain the tears those three simple words and the most damning effect they had on me. I couldn't shake those three simple words and at this point of reading them I had only read 50% of this book and still needed to finish the other half of the book with them stuck constantly in the forefront of my mind. Not an easy read it will pull you down into the darkness and make you feel and see the brutality of the words come to life so when the humor bursts through the vile words it was welcomed as it lifted the heavy clouds that shrouded me throughout the storyline. I swear it feed off my pain and fear wracking me with an uncontrollable force of every emotion given to mankind. The ending left me unsettled with the twist at the end that I had suspected that person throughout the vast majority of this read so wasn't shocked by it but it leaves me to wonder will there be more to come. I fully enjoyed this long winded dark read and would absolutely suggest it to others.
This book was dark yes, but it was more emotional than anything. It gutted me many times while i read The story of Jenna, who escaped a sadist who kidnapped and tortured her for years. It will be hard for the average reader, me included, to fathom such cruelty. But that's where Parker's deft touch comes into play.
Parker immediately creates a soul wrenching path for Jenna to take back to humanity. Slowly making small strides with Connor, the local doctor. I sobbed during these scenes, where Jenna splintered into Little Jenna and Big Jenna. Connor was a dom, but none of his training or previous experience would assist him with helping Jenna. He, along with his nurse Sarah, had to use instinct and empathy to help Jenna's progress. Connor was a dreamboat, so sympathetic and loving to Jenna...protecting her from his arrogant brother the sheriff or FBI.
The writing was paced well and riveting. The story bounced from Connor and Jenna, to the bad guy, and Parker does a good job changing the feel of the scenes. From hopeful and beautiful, to sadness and anxiety, to despair. I feel emotional wrung out from this story in only the best of ways.
I do wish some of the European words and phrases were edited for American audiences, as they are distracting. Words like, "bloody" "sorted" and "wanker" are never used in American speech, but luckily they are few and far between. This story is complete with no cliffhanger, but there is a huge reveal at the end that hints at the next book. #nospoilers
I am numb reading this really intense and terrifying book. Sire is scary just reading about him. My heart broke for Jenna when her flight kicked in and her body reacted on autopilot. Read with a nightlight and have a snuggie close by. The ending was beautiful, poignant and heart stuttering.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a very intense and soul shattering story. Jenna has been through so much in the hands of Sire and then finds Connor who helps her find her voice and herself. There were so many twists and turns in this story that kept me captivated and unable to put this book down!
I just lost sleep over this book...because I could not put it down. Literally. The story grabbed me by the throat and wouldn't let me go. As "number Twenty-Two" Jenna has been beaten and tortured within an inch of her life and somehow manages to find help in a kind, protective doctor (which, let's face it, she NEEDED a doctor). She's shattered and weak, and can't make herself speak, and reverts to "little" behavior to cope, but Connor just loves her so much he rolls with whatever she throws his way. As the story progresses, she gets stronger and stronger, until she is speaking and laughing and healing...and then taken again by her captor, Sire. I hate Sire, he is the most disgusting "thing" ever. This story made me angry, and it made me laugh and cry. I loved Connor's feisty sidekick, Sarah and his flirty brother, Cain. The goofy, protective dog....I can't give everything away, and there's a bit of a cliffhanger, because after the bad guy is banished, there is still evil lurking. I can't wait for the next book!
A tough read, but worth every tear, every groan, every breath held. I will tell you right off the bat that this is one of the BEST books I have ever read. I am an old lady, and have read a lot of books. The writing is excellent! The story is excellent. I would give it a hundred stars if I could, BUT, it's not for everyone. It is gut wrenching. I had to stop sometimes every 15-30 minutes to put my brain and my heart back together. Well worth the effort! Jenna, a beautiful soul, has escaped the devil himself after being held two-plus years, in a wooden shed, as his slave. She saves herself by escaping; she stumbles for miles, crawls into a small town bar, where the local doctor, Connor, picks her up off the floor, takes her to his office, and tries to put her back together. Not an easy task. Come read their story. It's one you won't soon forget.
This was an incredible read about overcoming trauma and the worst of mankind, and finding love amidst the healing. Connor and Jenna’s story is beautifully and realistically written, and the storyline is intense and gripping enough to make it difficult to put down. I seriously cannot say enough about this book, I loved it so much and want everyone to read it!
I don't know how to write this review. This book was dark, it pulled at my heart strings. It shattered me, glued me back then shattered me again. The writing was beautiful and the story was amazing.
I went into this book blind, I’d recommend reading it before this review but, hey, if ya want it to be spoiled... I got you!
Penelope Violet Abernathy “Jenna”- Was kidnapped from a mall in Denver, Colorado and held captive by a serial killer sadist for two years and two months. Escaped when she realized she’d be the next to die. Walked to nearest town bar where she meets Connor who jumps in, ready to be her savior.
Connor O’Malley- Middle brother. 38. Town doctor. Connor was at his brothers bar when Jenna walked in, dirty and dressed in a rag of a shirt. Intoxicated patrons were beginning to assault her and Connor kicked some ass. Being a doctor, he then took her home and called his sheriff brother.
Sarah- RN. Helps Connor at the clinic. She’s short and bossy, but a kind, beautiful woman. Sarah becomes Jenna’s first friend.
Cain O’Malley- Youngest brother. Easygoing. Funny. Intelligent. Athlete. Slut. Owns the local bar.
Caleb O’Malley/Protégé - Oldest brother. Town sheriff. Hard ass. Unbeknownst to us all, Caleb has 18 years of training under Sire. 12+ victims. Kills the same as Sire.
Iverson Wyatt Ford “Sire”- Serial killer. Sadist. Rapist. 54+ victims over an 18 year span.
This book kinda reminded me of the Dollar series by Pepper Winters in that it was a slow story to read. Even though Jenna made a turn around quickly, by reality’s standards, it was still drawn out in the book.
I almost dnf’d this because in the beginning, after knowing some of what she’d been through at the hands of a sadist, Connor explains his need to play dom in the bedroom. Like, dude, why would you tell her that? But I guess it worked. I’m happy I didn’t dnf. This book has been sitting on my kindle for FOREVER. It feels good to know what it’s about. The ending killed me though.

This honestly was the BEST book I've read all year! If I could give it 100 stars it wouldn't be enough! You feel what Connor and Jenna feel through out the entire story. There is so much darkness and pain, both feel it. Jenna has all the fear bottled up, she's not a person, she's number 22, she has no voice, if she does her tongue will be cut out. Unimaginable things she's been through and seen, and she still maintained some strength, when her time was almost done. Connor stepped in, when there was yet another threat. Connor is a Dominate, not a Daddy Dom but Dd/Lg is what Jenna needs, and he will do whatever it takes to get her thru to the other side. This story had a strong group of support characters which was refreshing, they all had a hand in helping Jenna recover, and make her feel safe. There was the integral story though of the crime/crimes that had been committed and who had done them, and you guess all the way through. This story will suck you in, it will make you sad, and smile and cry and and cheer Jenna and Connor on! This is my first story from Kay Elle Parker, I can't to see what's next!
I really don't know what to say. This story grabbed me from the start and never let go. It's a long book, over 400 pages but you will never feel it's too long, it has to tell the whole story, cross the t's and dot the i's. Jenna was abducted as a teen and kept captive, tortured, trained and punished as a part of her daily life. She is nothing to her captor, she doesn't even deserve a name, she is just a number. The night she escapes is the night before her planned death. She stumbles into the bar where Connor, the resident doctor takes her and cares for her the best he can. With the help of his nurse and friend Sarah, they save Jenna, but after the horror she's been through, she still cannot or will not talk. There are some very interesting characters around also, Cain, I call the good brother and Caleb, the distant but cruel brother who wants to do everything by the book as he's the local lawman. I cannot review the story further, it's a story that you need to read to get the full effect of what everyone goes thru. I can say though that if you read this book, you will definitely have all the feelings the rest of us have by the end of the story. Speaking of the end, OMG!!!
“Speechless” is a twisted tale of abduction, abuse, torture, redemption, and love. The dark theme is handled carefully with respect and is well-written. It is an emotional journey that will draw you in from the first page and hold you until the last page, where you will either cry or scream. The main characters, Jenna and Connor have become my heroes. Jenna for the strength it took to trust again and Connor for seeing past the damage. Supporting characters Sarah, Cain, and Zeke added much-needed humor to a very serious storyline. This is an amazing tale that would have a perfect HEA except, for one thing, Connor’s brother Caleb. The surprise ending of this book will stay with you long after you start reading another tale. I say no more. I’m looking forward to the next book. This book is definitely Book Club worthy.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It does not happen often that I get really angry when reading a book! But this one brought me to the edge of my seat, going for the heavy frying pan! The absolute depravity, the callous manipulation of human beings to sate a base need, is depicted in such vivid manner, that it made my goosebumps have goosebumps! And on the other side of the spectrum there is a sweet, real love story. But... ! Watch out! This is the best book by Ms Parker I have read so far.
I think its time for me to leave these stories alone. Too much of a muchness, submissive female who has been abused by her "master" etc. escapes into the hands of a "better man' who also happens to be a dominant.
If captive/abusive storylines appeal to you then you might like this but it was not for me. It was just too predictable.
Went onto finish on 2/11/19. Still a nope from me.
Holy shit, I'm broken. The title of this book couldn't be more apt. It's paining me that there are currently too many emotions giving me whiplash to review this fucking outstanding story with any level of coherency. I want to tell you why it's so beautiful, and exactly how talented an author Kay Elle Parker is. I want to do it justice. But I can't because Parker broke my brain with love. So, all I can really say is: read it. It'll break you, but in the most wonderful way possible.
I wish I could go back and experience this for the first time. Get to know Connor and Jenna all over again. Meet Luna. Fall hopelessly in love with Sarah and her gargantuan husband. Eye-fuck the shit out of every scene with Cain being a flirty asshole (damn, that boy needs his own book). I'd even suffer through every painful second of Jenna's recovery, just to experience this story anew. To feel the way I did the first time; how I feel right now. It's that wonderful. I love it. I love it so much. Where's my Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind machine, already? I need a mind erase, stat!
Ps. The protégé. Holy fuck. I knew it. I knew it and I didn't want it to be true. There has to be more to this story, right? You can't leave us hanging, Parker!
