Not As Promised

The book's title and subtitle promise the reader a lot, and unfortunately, this book fails to deliver on those promises. The author really doesn't give that many tips or techniques about speed reading; he refers to techniques but doesn’t really give you much information. For one thing, it is only 48 pages long in the PDF version that I received for review. Therefore, the author can't go into any sort of depth. I found the book overly repetitious, especially for such a short book. As an example, the author defines what speed reading is in several chapters. I say, do it once the right way at the very beginning! The writing language itself felt awkward and overwritten, which is kind of ironic given that he speaks of reading books without fluff to help your speed reading. He also contradicts himself in places. At the very beginning, he states that pleasure reading could be a reason why you want to learn how to speed read and specifically mentions reading romance. But then two times later in the book he doesn't recommend using speed reading techniques for fiction. The chapter that looks like it might have exercises has none whatsoever. He also implied that he would give the solution to subvocalization, the bane of many would-be speed readers, but he only gave a one- or two-sentence off-the-cuff answer that could not be implemented as is without further instruction. So, all in all, I found this to be a disappointing read.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Complete waste of time.

There is no actual speed reading technique given in this book and the author seems to get great joy out of repeating the same material throughout each chapter. In the end, you are directed somewhere else for the actual material that you downloaded the book for, for a small free of course.

Good tips

I used to read fast when I was younger, now I have PTSD and my reading is ruff. I will be applying some of these tips to see if I can read more as well as better.
