Stones of Amaria #1

Kingdom of Storms

Even phoenixes aren't perfect.

Cinder has always been the perfect heir to North Pyr. Now that she's twenty one, expectations from her parents have grown even more rigid. It's time for her to find a husband and prepare herself to be their leader.

Ever the player, Fury has never taken his princely roles too seriously. Much to his parents' horror, he spends his nights galavanting their kingdom, instead of settling down and preparing to rule. He has even dared to go into enemy territory, North Pry.

But something happens one day and the kingdoms may need to join to protect their lands. Cinder and Fury must choose what kind of future their people will have.

Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.

My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.

I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.

I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes.

I love Phoenix

If you love Phoenix shifters, and who doesn't, you get to meet a kingdom of divided ones and the children of them. An ancient seer decided to start a school for them to bring them together. Why? That's a great question. This book is engaging from beginning to end and I love the different points of view. I am dying to know what is in store for all of them

I love Cinder and Fury. Anything with shifters and fated mates is good in my book.
This was a little different than what I normally read. When I saw high fantasy, I figured I would try it. I was not disappointed. Fated mates from opposing kingdoms. What shall they do? Can’t wait to see if they grow their bond in book two.

Kingdom of Storms by Jen L. Grey is the first book in her Stones of Amaria series. These stories are taking place in this author’s spin of the Stones of Amaria. In this cut we are introduced to phoenix shifters whose kingdom was split years ago behind a quest of greed and power. All Cinder’s parents have wanted for her is to find her mate and prepare to rule their kingdom. That’s far from what she wants, but what’s a girl to do when Fate determines that it’s time for her and her intended mate to cross paths? And that very mate to be from the kingdom that broke off behind the greed of one from the past? Change is coming and now they must take steps to set aside their differences and come together.
Kingdom of Storms tells the story of Cinder and Fury, two phoenixes from opposite sides of the kingdom. This story moves quickly and smoothly between the two characters. The author quickly points out the uniqueness of these two characters, and the similarities of their families. I couldn’t help being surprised at both the similarities and differences between these two characters families. Cinder was born with her powers, but Fury was essentially “forced” to develop his. An undertone of danger is quick to surface in the story. Now, while I’m not always a fan of “insta-love” I like that these characters do feel a strong pull toward each other that is hard to resist, but resist it to an extent one of them does do.
There isn’t much that I don’t like about this book. The author does a good job keeping me page-turning to learn what happens next with the characters. I have to say that I was more than happy when a certain character gets a major reality check concerning their mouth…it’s just too bad that the same can’t be said about the other who is a major pain in the butt. I’m hoping that they will be handled sooner than later.
I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. The storyline is good, but it feels like something was missing. This storyline is still building so I’m hopeful that the next book will help to bring this story together better.

What an incredible story! Even though it's a short story, this pulls you in right from the beginning, getting you invested in all of the characters. It's got action, it's got the bud of romance and it's got a plot that will keep you wanting more. I can't wait to see what else this world and these characters have to offer!

This was a really good take on Phoenix shifters. Brenton and Joash or whatever their names are, are full on dumbasses but the story was good.

Painful

Oh. My.goodness, I've read a lot of books but this may have been one of the worst books I've ever read. So many things went wrong with this book. If you are looking for the easiest read of your life this is for you. Repetitive dialogue. Just wrong, I cant believe I paid for it 😑

fast read

I’ve read her more recent work, and thought I’d go back and find some of the older ones. This was a much quicker read than her other books I’ve read. The alternating third person is interesting. I can’t decide if I like it or not. (I really like the alternating POV first person style.)

Can’t wait to see what happens next.

A Decent Story!!

I enjoyed reading this one. Two of the kingdoms have mean spirited rulers. It’s nice that the upcoming rulers are more in tune with their feelings and beliefs. Cinder and Fury are a good pair. Joash and Brenton are self centered. Pele and Hestia are loyal. On to the next one. 🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜😊😊😊

Divided realm. Two kingdoms that hate each other, being the enemies to the death. Arrogance ruling in different forms.
And in the middle, two fated mates, divided by the huge gap of their legacies.
Phoenixes to be joined, destined to change the current course.
Only it won't be easy, and Cinder and Fury will have to fight and survive the strange Academy led by the Ancient Seer, in order to fulfill their destinies.
Compelling read, fast paced and fascinating, with phoenix shifters at the center. I very much enjoyed this fast read with straightforward storyline with twists and turns that promise there is more to come, more to be discovered. There could have been more information on the world building, but as a shared world, one has to read probably many books in the same universe to really get the whole picture, and this story has a great pull even without lots of details. Cinder and Fury are both interesting characters put in a difficult situation, and I would love to see where their fates will bring them and what will they do with the challenges they will face.

So while I was on my "fantasy academy" reading marathon, found this one.

It's a kind of fast paced rather short fantasy story, but I liked it. It has it's own flavor and charm.

While overall plot and characters were ok, it did feel like the author could've expanded a liiiitle bit to slow it down and thus the book would also be longer.
I guess it seemed like a manuscript and with some more polishing could've been, well not better...more full? Like, I suppose you could say it has the backbone right now, just could've done with some flesh as well? That's the feeling I got.

But even with it's fast flow, it did ok and look forward to next book's release.

There’s just something about these characters that makes you wanna go and hang out with them! The fact that they are phoenix shifters is such an added bonus.
This is the start of what I am sure will be a fantastic story. The characters are flawed in their individual ways, no one likes a perfect pants lol! The world building has started, and already the lore is being introduced. I cannot remember ever reading a phoenix shifter- but I am so glad I can say that I have now. This is a series I am so excited for!

A great start to a promising series and shared world! I liked the mix of royalty, magic, and mysterious darkness. The side characters were just as likable and the Seer provides an unknown element of guidance or destruction. The tension and playful exchanges between Fury and Cinder were equally balanced with other story elements. It took a little for the story to develop but once it did, I didn’t want it to end. I love the idea of a shared fantasy world and look forward to reading more of this series and within this world!

Cinder and Fury two people from different sides of the same area Both are supposed to run their kingdoms but they both have the same pull that leads them in a different direction. When an unexpected announcement comes will all that are called be able to follow each other even tho both sides dislike the other? Amazing start to this series that's going to be awesome. The push and pull from these characters and the emotions that they all have. Can't wait to read the next one

Kingdom of Storms is a story of rivals and allies, fate and destiny and mates versus arrangements. It is a great start of how it begins. It shows that not all is as it seems and figuring out what is truth and what is tales is hard to distinguish. Read to find out how two rivals have to become allies to save their kingdoms. Can they get past the stories they were told to accept the fate they are given?

Can't get enough!!

Each of the authors picked for this series are amazing! If you read any of the first books, you are hooked. This one, the kingdom is split. The two are inhabited by shape shifting phoenixes. Something is coming and the deer has chosen six to train. Three from the north and three from the south. All taught to be enemies. Now they need to learn to work together. Bonds will be made, but will they be enough?

This was a really fun read, and a great start to what is sure to be a fantastic story. I've never read a story about a Phoenix before so this was out of the norm for me, but I liked it a lot. I loved the characters, we'll most of them, and I can't wait to see where this storyline goes

Aptly named, Cinder and Fury phoenix shifters work really well for this short story. Then we find out that not only is this the first book of a series, but theres a whole world associated. I don't know if I'll love all the author's stories, but I'm excited to see where they take phoenix's and fairies, and dragons, oh my.

Phoenix Shifters what more can a girl want. theirs not many of them out there. Jen's Kingdom of Stones is just a wonderful tale to read the characters are very personable and make you want to be their friends. Another Plus is that this is an Academy book which I am hooked on at the moment. I love the divided kingdoms of Cinder and Fury and cant wait for more.

What a fantastic beginning! This is going to be the most amazing series reminds me of a twist on Romeo and Juliet but with Phoenixes instead of people.(hopefully without a tragic ending) I absolutely can not wait to see what trials and tribulations Cinder and Furry will encounter.
