What is a billionaire heiress supposed to do when all of her older siblings take to business like her parents, proving that business is in their blood?

But not hers.

There are many good choices. Unfortunately, Chloe decided that partying was the right one.

Now a requirement to keep her money requires her to attend daily meetings with the family psychologist—a daily meeting about how she should change her life to change her future.

The worst part? The meetings are before noon, so she has to get up early.

Then he presents her with an offer.

Invest in a new game company and become the first player to stay inside their full-immersion pod.

For two years.

Two years away from her parents looking down on her, and not having to listen to her siblings and their success?

Done.

There is only one problem…

Chloe’s avatar connects to a Goddess of Retribution who doesn’t remember her past.

Following the rabbit trail of armor to help the goddess will require more responsibility from Chloe than she has ever accepted in the past.

Will she return to being the party girl of her past, or will the Lagarde daughter tempered in fire from her upbringing wake up?

Book one

First off I could not finish this book. I made it to 34% before I got fed up. Lots of plot holes.
The MC gets some godly armour because she fell. No skill, no smarts, she did something stupid and fell. For no reason she gets a blessing that keeps her from going splat.

The guy that got her into the game is to busy playing cuddle games with his ex-girlfriend to do his job.

The author also seems fixated on huge mammary glands. This would make being an adventure very difficult as they would get in the way of even simple task, like running. Ask any girl with a big chest.

The very first village she finds they killed the MC thinking she is a liar. Next thing you know she's done a bunch of quest for them, that we never see, and they love her and offer to let her join the village. The three guys she is there with have been asked to leave though. When she declines to join the village they suddenly decided to give her all the gear that she should have only gotten from joining the village.

The goddess of retribution is a spoiled child. Her idea of retribution is kill everything. No reason needed other than the world is a dangerous place. She gets to be snarky and funny and isn't either.
I just couldn't take any more.

I keep trying LitRPG books, unfortunately I don’t often find one that turns out to be interesting, however, the publicity blurb for this one seemed intriguing.

I have no idea if the story actually became intriguing because I couldn’t get past the puerile game e.g. Chloe picks up a twig and gains a weapon skill ?!!! And why is the author obsessed with the size of Chloe’s breasts?

The target audience for this book is obviously teenage boys and unfortunately I haven’t been one of those for many many years.

The premise of someone going into a game world to change themselves is actually really interesting and I was actually pretty excited to see how the MC would progress. Unfortunately the book leaves a lot to be desired to a point where I was actually upset.

Things I hated
It boggles my mind that a well respected therapist/psychologist to a family empire would accept an invitation from some one he had a brief summer fling with during high school. It is presented as if they were high school sweet hearts but actually they dated in summer camp and after they are back at school she ignored him. But decades after that experience he is excited to meet her again and risk his career for her.

The specifics of the premise is actually extremely stupid and if you take a step back and look at this book from a legal stand point it would make your head explode.

It makes absolutely no sense that Chloe would not only be the first person to enter the game but also the only person who will be unable to leave FOR TWO YEARS! I mean that is absolutely insane! And it is not like she is kept in some state of the art facility where doctors are constantly looking at her vitals she is in a dingy part of the city where the only people who look after her is her psychologist and a game developer. WHY?!

And to make it more stupid the only way she can contact the real world is if she dies! WHY?! That makes absolutely no sense considering what is going on. At the very least they should be able to leave her messages.

Why would her parent approve that there child be thrown into a game for two years when they have no significant data about the safety of staying in a pod for two years or that the game will make her feel actual pain or that her actions will be broadcast to everyone when they want it a secret that she is even there.

Also when the game gets updated it doesn't affect her pod! WHY?! They lower the pain but it doesn't work for her. Incredibly stupid why that wouldn't work but you know what fine. But then the game developer says that she told everyone else in her company that this was happening but they ignored her! WHY?! YOU HAVE THE DAUGHTER OF A RICH FAMILY EMPIRE WHO IS FUNDING YOU GETTING ACTUALLY HURT! SHE SHOULD BE TOP PRIORITY!

And then there is the stupidity of the actual game world in which instead of default undergarments that stay on even if you lose your armor the default is being naked -_-. And it becomes a running 'joke' that whenever she dies she loses her top HA....So funny....😒 But even though being naked is ok the game bleeps curse words... which also becomes a running joke... And then of course there is the stereotypical unfunny snarky A.I.

The way she completed the first quest and obtained KieraFreya was extremely disappointing and lackluster in every way. I thought it could have been an interesting way of showing how there are different ways of solving a problem instead of level but she honestly fell and was able to get it...

Also it was a bit gag worthy when someone called her the better magician.

Overall I am pretty disappointed and it could have easily been fixed by having her enter a game world that was already established with players and building up steam. Also have a starting area that is at least nearby it makes no sense to drop people randomly around the world. (Which now makes no sense because Gideon and his friends all landed in the same area)

Brilliant!

KieraFreya is a brilliant concept! The story is funny, entertaining, and I was completely immersed when reading. Chloe and KF are hilarious, and the other characters are interesting. Another new favourite series. (How many favourite series can I have???) The story is fascinating, and I can’t wait for the second book to be released.

This book is almost unreadable... The plot is literally, the only thing that keeps me going. Here are the negatives:
- Everyone has the same sense of humor... And that's Puns...
- Almost every scene is about boobs popping out
- Nothing makes any logical sense, which is fine cuz it's fantasy, but then the writer tries to make it make sense and then it's just bad.
- The character development is extremely two dimensional, rich kid, pour nerd, drunk dwarf... Absolutely zero back story other than, "here is an example of how my life sucks cuz my family is rich, pour, whatever".
- The entire thing feels like it's written by a horny nerd that just graduated highschool and dreams about the "perfect" girl. But they know nothing of an actual relationship or how people actually function and what drives people to do and feel and behave they ways they do.

I could go on... But to sum it up, quite literally, one fo the worst written books I've come across.

However.... The adventure she goes on is just... just... Interesting enough to read on.... But I would never recommend this book to anyone, unless they were in highschool and were a honey teenage.

Decent idea poorly thought and badly executed

Decent idea poorly thought and badly executed. Typical Michael Anderle flop. The initial idea is not bad though certainly not original (try some new immersive vr game) but the premises and the game ai are pretty terrible, the whole thing is full if inconsistencies: the game has a swear filter to make it pg15 friendly but provides full pain perception so every fight you feel being cut stabbed ... you feel everything as you are killed, and yet nobody has a problem with that, not the girl who found this out the hard way ir her sheppard, or the devs. At one point her sheppard even points out that this could lead to torture but somehow gets distracted and then it's ok? WTF? The MC gets dropped into thes world without explanation, the drop literally takes a third of her life, then it starts raining and she starts loosing hitpoints from the rain after she barely git into the game? What kind of game start is that? No, not worth it and from what I read about the follow-up books it only gets worse much much worse.

I thought this story was good. I liked seeing how the main character grew in regards to relationships and and her confidence in herself. I think my favorite character was Gideon. I didn’t like how cheesy this book felt. Things were too easy for the characters. I didn’t feel like the stakes were high enough for them. Oh, you died? Wait two hours, and you’ll respawn with half of your equipment. I understand that they’re in a virtual reality game, but I’ve read other LitRPG stories where the characters are in literal life and death situations. The book just felt a little cheesy.

I'm not quite done with this book but I wanted to put a few things out there. I like the premise and story line so far. I would have rated it a 4 except for a few things. First of all the sexist driven agenda comments are not endearing, they are quite annoying. When the main character refers to an object as a boy and the "god" that is part of her gear calls her a sexist for it then turns around and calls her "Sweet Tits" and that's ok almost makes me ready to put the book down and blacklist the author. I'm hoping this was done as an attempt at an intended humor but personally I find it very annoying. Second is there is a general rule that you do not need to repeat anything more than 3 times in a row. There are a few instances i'm looking for my skip 30 seconds button after 5-6 repeats.

If you find this helpful, great. If not, great. If you have a different opinion please post it on your own review.

It was cool to see Michael Anderle attempt LitRPG. Unfortunately, the book did not really stand out much from other LitRPG. Also, based on most of the technologies and companies mentioned at the beginning, it seemed like the story took place around when the book was actually published, but the VR technology used by the main character is decades ahead of what should even have been in testing at that point in time. It felt like this book should have taken place in the future or have had a good explanation for the technology existing, such as aliens or people from a parallel Earth infiltrating our world and providing advanced technology. I normally love stuff that Michael Anderle writes, but he was out of his element with this book. There are way better LitRPG books out there, but this still was at least somewhat enjoyable. I would recommend other LitRPG books and other Michael Anderle books over this.

Rich girl gets into a VRMMORPG for therapy. Discovers artifect with part of a goddess mind. Then she tries to find other parts of that godly armor.

Divided on this book. On the one side i like the MC and the snarky AI. On the other side I despise the goddess and also dislike that there are too many things only to keep the plot going.

Very Clever Indeed!

While I have your attention, I just want to say that this was quite an enjoyable book. Clever, kick-ass heroine, & humble (lol) followers. On to book 2 now!

Seriously, it's a good book.

3 stars , DNF , it was okay but pretty standard. It did have some times of interests but not enough for me to finish it. Just okay all in all and I lose interest at about 80 percent through the book.

Normally love this author but this book was just meh for me. Not sure why because I don’t mind LitRPG but I just really didn’t like the MC snd that affected my overall enjoyment of the book. Maybe a re-read another time….?

I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!

*probably* worth buying on kindle. Not worth buying if it was a real book. I didn't bother buying the second book

Nice Concept.

Took computer VI RPG games to another level. Impressive character development again. Two strong female characters existing together in same boby. Multiple plot twists.

A great story so far

I like the story and most of the characters. Often times writers make characters that are not friendly and easy to like but in this case the main character Chloe and her friends and even the goddess are easy to like. I wish the writer would put more emphasis on how the character spends their points but that is relatively minor. The only thing I didn’t like was the drug use by the shaman. I am sure my opinion isn’t the popular one but for me it wasn’t necessary and felt just a blatant way to insert it into the book. The shaman is such a smart guy I feel bad that he can’t seem to go without. However he plays such a small part that I will continue reading. Chloe's development along with the relationship with the doctor and his hs sweetheart adds a nice touch to the story. I would like to see Mom and Dad be a little more involved but I am hoping that in the next book(s) they will be.

A good start.

I've loved most of the Michael Anderle books that I've read. The first go at LitRPG felt a little clunky. Good characters. A few too many stats/skills that didn't add much to the story. Some interesting adventures. This was a story that felt like it needed a little longer in the refining stage. Don't pass it up. I'm pretty sure it'll hit its stride. Just a bit rough out of the gate. Awesome cover.

Fun Read

Chloe is the black sheep of her powerful family. Partying is her means of dealing with her insecurities. To maintain her financial position, she invests in a game company and becomes the first player in complete immersion. I like the action, humor, and bit of romance. Will she be able to help deposed Goddess, KieraFreya, gather all her lost armor and reconstitute herself. I look forward to the next book.

Another one to read.

Michael Anderle is a ridiculously talented author. Vampire, sci-fi, fantasy, zombies... Urban fantasy... Angels... Demons.
Now he heads into litrpg and its surprisingly good. Chloe is as normal a strong female lead. KieraFreya a perfect foil to her. Add in a supporting cast and there's a good plot in there.

Lord of the rings it's not.

Immersive and very enjoyable. Never really been into the d&d genre but I loved this book.
Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure.
Travel a new world looking for treasure and fight monsters. What's not to love.
I look forward to more from this series 😁

Pretty fun for LitRPG

Fun take on a LITRPG story. Anderle knows how to craft a good story, and this bears some of his trademark moves (strong, female MC with some extra power/help up her sleeve). He Akari does a good job building in some longterm tension. This is the first in a series, so while it ends, it wasn't much of a conclusion. Fun read though.

Too much inane chatter... Soap Opera Level

Read about 45% but became very bored with the constant useless chatter between characters. Not really interested in continuing. I was scrolling and skimming through large amounts of filler chat.

Nice!

I really think this is a good start to a great series. I wasn’t sure what to expect since the Author doesn’t usually write this genre but I like his other books so I gave this one a shot. Glad I did!
