I totally adored this little colourful book so much!
I must have read it like three times already! Because it's too cute and adorable! The illustrations did it all I would say. They stand out, like sparkling stars on a clear dark sky. It exactly made me feel this way regarding the illustrations!
The storyline is good but I feel there's nothing much new to it. However, it's about the three cats in the family which have different personalities and it's described/illustrated well. But the reader me got a little disappointed everytime the book comes to an end just because it's just damn too short even for a children's picture book! I keep thinking the story's just starting and then comes the abrupt ending. Yes, it's a little too abrupt for me. I was expecting more words and illustrations.
Overall, it's a pretty book with cosy, colourful content.
I will be keeping an eye on the author and the illustrator!

Alya and the Three Cats by Amina Hachimi Alaoui is an adorable, little tale full of sweet kitties!

Minouche, Pasha and Amir are little cats who are treated like royalty. They have the best lives any cat could ever dream of! They're super cute and fluffy and full of personality, like all cats should be! Then, one day, their owner Myriam's belly begins to grow! Suddenly, there is a new friend for our litte fluff ball friends to meet.

I absolutely loved the art style. The pictures were drawn beautifully and attracted enough attention to them but didn't take away from the story. It stands out and is very lovely, plus the colours fit the tone and mood in the story.

Overall, this book is sweet and cozy! It's a great picture book for young readers.

Three out of five stars.

This is a strange picture book that suffers from a weak translation and a confusing title.

Do you have cats who are upset about the impending arrival of a human baby? If so, then this is the book for you. Get it and read it to your cats.

In all seriousness, I get that this is supposed to be for older siblings, but it reads more like something for the cats rather than something about them. As for the translation, there are a few areas that could use some work. At one point, it's stated that the cats are treated like princes... so you'd assume they're all male. Nope. Minouche is female. (The word "royalty" probably would've worked better there.) Pasha is described as looking "like a real pasha". I'm sorry, but that's not an English word, and I have no idea what it means! Also, the title is pretty misleading. Alya is the baby, and she barely even makes an appearance. It would've made more sense to call the book Myriam and the Three Cats since Myriam is the one the cats have all bonded with and whose growing belly is freaking the cats out.

The pictures are cute, I guess. The book obviously takes places somewhere other than North America (North Africa or the Middle East would be my guess), and this is reflected in the illustrations. It's always nice to see different cultures reflected in the pictures.

Overall, though, I found this one really underwhelming. But cat lovers might enjoy it more than I did.

This is a beautiful children's book translated from the original Polish (I think -- Alya i trzy koty) that tells the story of three cats whose owner is going to have a baby. They don't know that, of course, and are intrigued by the growing belly that sometimes has thumping going on within, then their owner's mysterious disappearance. When the baby comes home they are originally a little unsure, but they quickly learn that there's enough love for all and they become a happy family of one more.

The art is lovely and the tone is sweet. Children of families with cats will relate to these three kitties and what it's like to grow up in a home already filled with felines. Some reviewers have suggested that it's a metaphor for being a child when another baby is born and that may work, but that may also be overthinking things. Kids whose parents had cats when they were born are likely to hear similar stories and have similar family memories of the cats reacting with amusing alarm at the jumping belly before forming a bond with the new, furless little creature who's been brought home.

This is a lovely story that will be an especially big hit with cat loving families.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This book is so adorable and sweet! I loved the story and the illustrations are beautiful and heartwarming!
This book is a tale of three very different cats who are all loved the same by their owner, but one day she leaves and comes home with a baby and the cats dont know what to make of it. The gran treasures them that their owner will still love them the same and then their owner shows them her love. The cats become accustomed to the baby after this.

Pasha, Minouche and Amir were the much-indulged feline companions of Maryam and Sami, and they were accustomed to plenty of love and attention. Then one day they began to notice that Maryam's belly - always a favorite place to nap - was getting bigger and bigger, and that it sometimes moved, and made funny sounds. When Maryam went away and returned with baby Alya, the cats weren't sure they liked this new development at first. But when they discovered that there was still plenty of love for them, they adopted Alya as their sister, keeping watch over her...

Originally published in Morocco in 2016, as علياء والقطط الثلاث, this sweet picture-book was translated into English in 2020, for the Montreal-based publisher, CrackBoom! Books. Although I have seen the translator listed in many databases as Mehdi Retnani, whose name is also on the colophon, the translator credited on the title page is Nathaniel Penn. I'm not sure which is correct - perhaps both? Leaving that aside, this was a delightful little book, one which addresses a common childhood experience - getting a new sibling - from a feline perspective. It reminded me a bit of similar tales told from the dog's perspective - Madeleine L'Engle's The Other Dog , Tony Fucile's Poor Louie - and was quite heartwarming. The accompanying artwork from Lebanese illustrator Maya Fidawi was colorful and cute, doing a particularly good job of capturing Pasha, Minouche and Amir's cuddly feline charm. Alya and the Three Cats is the first children's book I have read from Morocco - author Amina Hachimi Alaoui founded children's publishing house Yanbow Al Kitab in 2006 - but I hope it will not be my last. Recommended to picture-book readers looking for new sibling/new baby stories, as well as to young cat lovers.

I was provided an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was just so precious. I'm really in love with the beautiful illustrations and the lovely way the story is told. Alya and the Three Cats is the story about three cats witnessing the pregnancy of their owner, while they don't really know what is happening. It's a sweet story that might help older siblings to feel more secure about the arrival of their newest family member. A sweet way to tell your kids, that a mother has enough love for yet another baby and the children she already has.

Normally I would have ended up giving this book 3 stars. While the first half of the book was just really adorable, the ending felt sadly rushed and some things were just stated without further explanation. (For example there was the description of the cats playing with the presents, but not why there were any presents to begin with, which might be something a kid might not know.)

Another point that bothered me was the sentence "They are treated as princes" at the beginning of the book, as one of the cats is female.

But I'm just ridiculously in love with this adorable book, even though there was just too much missing in the last pages for me. Still. I really enjoyed this read and I loved, loved, loved the illustrations. So a little biased 4 stars for a book that narrowly escaped a lower rating.

I'm reviewing some children's books with my granddaughter Gia. Please keep in mind she is 4, and cannot read, but she likes lively pictures and is partial to cats, witches, dragons, and the color pink. LOL
In "selecting" which titles to review, I enlisted her help, letting her virtually select from the "read now" titles.
Thankfully I believe she was able to select books within her age group, surprisingly!
She picked this one due to the cats on the cover.
I was disappointed that I couldn't download it to my PC because it would be awesome to see the book in color, but I could not get access to that particular "device" under manage my devices.
We viewed it on my cell phone because my kindle has no color. (bad choice nana!) but she gave it a thumbs up for the kitties and a thumbs down for the baby carriage. Not sure why, I think she felt she should've "seen the stinkin baby" LOL!!!
I thought the story was cute, and was just short enough to keep her attention.
It also teaches that love is divisible among all those you love, it never runs out, therefore Myriam is able to love her kitties even though she added in a new (human) baby!
Very cute. We enjoyed this one!
Highly recommend for young cat lovers and great to help teach the lesson for a new sibling scenario as well, that they will always be loved, even when the "new baby" comes on the scene.

Alya and the Three Cats by Amina Hachimi Alaoui is a cute story about three cats that have a pregnant owner and how they feel about her coming home with a new baby. Will these cats that have been the center of attention be able to learn to share the love of their owner? This is an adorable story with engaging illustrations by Maya Fidawi that shows us that love is to be shared and there is enough to go around for everyone. I do wish it was a little longer as I really liked the style.

Alya and the Three Cats is the story of 3 cats and the arrival of a new baby in their house. The cats love their owner Myriam and like cuddling on her expanding belly. Then one day, the belly is gone and there is a new baby girl in the house. The cats are concerned there won't be enough love to go around, but their family reassures them.

This is a sweet story and would be a perfect book to read to a child who is anxious about the arrival of a new baby in their house. The illustrations were adorable and the book would be a great addition to any diverse book collection.

This children's book covers and important issue, a new baby, in a unique way. Instead of a child, it is three cats who are worried how their lives will change when baby Alya arrives in the household. Now this all sounds good, but I felt that the concepts were brushed over with any real solution. The idea that there is enough love to go around is good and identifiable, which is good, but the anxiety of the cats (siblings) was not explained at all. I liked the illustrations and the book is cute. I thought it would be a good one for a family expecting a new child, but I think it falls a bit short. The publisher generously provided me a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Alya and the Three Cats is a short but sweet story about three cats curiosity when their owners bring home a new baby- Alya!
The illustrations were beautifully done, I viewed this on a kindle so unfortunately there was no color but the artwork was both unique and detailed. Also unique, are the names of the characters!- Minouche, Pasha and Amir.
Some of the words would be harder for small children to understand, so I think this would be better enjoyed by older kids with a little more advanced vocabulary. Although the words were somewhat advanced the content itself wasn’t so much. If your trying to find something to prepare your child for another baby I’m not sure this will do the trick, but would make a good little bedtime story.

Cute, nicely illustrated story of three cats that get anxious when a new baby is thrown into the mix of their otherwise happy home.

Simple story of cats being reassured there is love for all.

Originally written in Arabic, it doesn't seem to suffer in the translation. The pictures carry the story quite well.

Very simple story, but reassuring.

A perfect book for children expecting a new sibling. And if they love cats it’s doubly perfect!
The author captured the personality of felines who won’t let a growing belly stop their cuddle area.
This is a story of love for our furry friends and new babies. What could be better?

The Low Down:
Maryam and Sami have three cats: Pasha the black angora cat―proud as a pasha really!―Minouche the grey tabby cat found in the street and Amir the playful Siamese. One day Maryam’s belly starts to get bigger and something starts to stir in it. Maryam disappears for a few days and comes back home with something that screams and demands a lot of attention. Their three cats are very confused. What’s going on?

My thoughts:
First, let’s appreciate the illustrations in this book.
Alya and the Three Cats by Amina Hachimi Alaoui

I thought this was a wonderful, simple story about three cats who get anxious and curious when their mom has a baby until they learn that there is enough love to go around. Originally written in Arabic, this story does not suffer in translation as I have noticed some translated books do. I really enjoyed it, although there wasn't much to it (the illustrations speak for themselves), and think it would be a wonderful book to read to children who are expecting a younger sibling.

I liked this one, very ambient. But one strange thing about it is that not much really happens. So every time I sit down to write this review, I find I forget the ending. But a cute concept of a bunch of cats being confused and unsettled when their owner brings a new baby home. But they all come together as a family in the end. The illustrations are gorgeous, I believe the author is from Morocco and the beautiful Arabic tiles and decor are captured well here. Sweet story about these three different cats which my almost 4 year old enjoyed, because she's really into cats, but wasn't obsessed with.

This beautiful picture book shows how scary a new baby can be for the other children in the family. In this family's case - the fur babies are nervous about being replaced. Amina skillfully weaves a kind message of assurance throughout the book. This coupled with the beautiful drawing of Maya create a feeling of comfort, ease and acceptance even during uncertain times.
I highly recommend this book for families expecting a new baby to help ease the transition for the older children. It is also a great example great character description and could be used in a lesson as an example for older students needing an example.
I believe that you will enjoy this book’s beautiful pictures as much as the story it tells. It will delight you mind as well as your eyes.

Alya and the Three Cats is a very sweet and appealing book.  The illustrator captures the look and feel of each of the cats, all of whom enjoy being treated like princes.  Myriam lovingly cares for Minouche, Pasha and Amir.  The cats love climbing on Myriam but...what is happening?  Myriam is getting larger.  Why does she leave one day and return with a pink basket and what is inside it?  Will there be enough love to go around?

Young children will enjoy this story, both to see the delightful illustrations and to understand a bit about bringing a baby into the home.  It could be a great gift for an older sibling.

I truly enjoyed this adorable title.  Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Let's start with the illustrations - they were simple, but super cute. There is so much going on in this story and I love it. I honestly teared up when Grandma said "To love is to share." This story is so sweet and filled with so much love. I appreciate how they easily wove in the story of how the cats came to live there as well. The cats even all have personalities (just like real cats!).

Highly recommend. Loved this one.

What a precious book! This story is told from the perspective of three cats with very different personalities. When their owner becomes pregnant they fear that their contented lifestyle may be changing. This was a beautifully illustrated book, and I loved the diverse names and cleverly told story. I would recommend this book to anyone who is expecting a new baby in their life to read to their children. A wonderful story with a great message, "There is more than enough love to go around!"
