He left behind the Northern Kingdoms, tired of their wars and schemes. The golden waves of the Sea of Sand didn’t drown him in fire, but the Evening Stars ultimately didn’t bless him with their light. Despite his many adventures, despite the fact he's already endured enough hardship to last him several lifetimes, his soul was restless. Finally, Hadjar Darkhan and his friend, Einen the Islander, reached the capital of the Darnassus Empire — Dahanatan. They managed to do something most other outsiders would deem impossible — they became disciples of ‘The Holy Sky’ School of martial arts. What adventures await the former General and pirate? How will the very heart of the vast Empire treat them? What dangers lurk where the best of the Empire’s warriors are forged?
Hadjar had no idea. Still, he continued to follow the call of his dragon heart. Wherever it took him…
This world is crazy scary! The world is SO vast that a guy like Hadjar is 'weak' compared to everyone in the capital city of the Empire. It's INSANE! Seeing Hadjar and Einen get accepted into the best school in the Empire was satisfying to watch though. I love how everyone there think they're both only 16 years old, but I suppose it's true... their souls are 16 but their body is not.
Crazy! I can't wait to see what happens in Hadjar's next adventure.
...in the LitRPG genre. I like the growth shown in the main character Hadjar, and his friend Einen. In this part of the story, they are accepted into a school, the "Holy Sky" school. They go on several expeditions to battle and earn points, making enemies and friends alike. They make a great team, but Hadjar's new Mentor splits them up so that the next part of the book will tell of his solitary journey to complete his future Mentor's quest. Einen has found his life's companion, but there are many obstacles to overcome first. I am already impatient for the next installment! This is a great book and I highly recommend it!
Please forgive me for any mistakes, but I did just read this epic story until the sun came up. I’ve been hooked since book 1. It’s the sadness and pain that sinks it’s hooks in you and then rips you back to euphoria with the won battles and friendship/brotherhood between the characters. This book was just as good as the previous but also a little lighter. Not so much pain. But it has intrigue and opened up brand new paths of cultivation. Do yourself a favor and read this series.
Only wish these were translated and released faster. Can’t wait to catch up to what’s actually written already. Glad I stuck with it despite favorite character deaths.
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
I liked the story overall. What I did not like was the instant love at first sight of the female character. I also disliked that he is basically wanting to sleep with a girl thats not even 16? Lastly, I dislike how these guys have fought thousands of fights and yet they are outclassed by 15 /16 year olds? I mean that's just a bit much. It makes all their struggles feel pointless. Just my thoughts.
Love the pain of the updates and laugh every time his AI is Mentioned. The new story arc finally begins to touch on the wider world and I love the potential for the character change from the duel. Purposefully vague so no spoilers. Can’t wait for the next book.
Good story... but Worst book of series. Hit meanders and starts getting bogged down with plot holes.
Overall I like this series. This book was rather a mess. Straightforward the story continued on and advanced towards the main characters quest. However... There wasn't much character development, in the main character or The supporting cast. The main character is pretty well fleshed out however the story continuously puts that character in contemplating thought lines over and over again which started to get boring. Also he could never seem to improve a situation as soon as he made a breakthrough, he just runs into another foe that the breakthrough has no effect on, and it started to become tedious and boring. The supporting cast which is made up of strong female and male characters were never really fleshed out to where we cared about him. The main character's best friend is trying to take the place of an earlier character who was killed off and that relationship just doesn't feel real or genuine. And it cheapens the main character because The supporting cast friend seems to without any effort match him for advancement in his power, this makes the main characters struggle seem trivial in contrite. Also the author is forcing the main characters through the storyline to follow a goal and path, and it starts to feel boring and unimaginative as we already know what his ultimate goal is and it doesn't appear like he has any character choices in which way his life will go. The choices the main character does start to get tiresome as they seem to have no effect as there's always one more thing that he needs to do. Over time I understand this step or steps of advancement is how you acquire power in the storyline.. however the author never allows the character development in between those struggles to make it worthwhile and so points of his advancement become meaningless and contrite also and unfortunately boring reading. I'll try the next book or two and see how the story goes as they become available but I was disappointed that the authors were concerned of where the main character's journey goes then the actual characters that he's writing about. The first three books in the series balanced all of these elements well, and the story is so sweeping and epic in scope that the author is having trouble maintaining character development to where we feel related to them as a reader. Overall it's a good story, not a great epic, but still a good story.
Have mixed feelings about this book. To be fair, its trending in the right direction. Pros: 1) This should be book 1 as they finally start to cultivate. 2) It was branded as wuxia so a lot of checklist from typical wuxia novels exist. Both good and bad. 3) MC finally starting to develop 4) No protracted battles/fights that last multiple pages as typical of wuxia novels. Cons: 1) MC and friend never stop getting astounded. I mean the level is still similar to when they just step out of their little village. Frog in a well. As wuxia would call it. 2) Author will ramble about immortals and higher beings over and over and yet MC is nowhere near that level. Its like goin on and on about Masters Degree while talking to a 2nd grader. In wuxia novels they will just get mentioned in passing and then slowly ease them into the story as the MC progresses. 3) Author likes to ramble about stuff not related or unattainable by MC. “This potion can only be brewed by alchemist yada, yada, yada. Unfortunately the MC is not. Can be brewed using this very rare ingredient yada, yada, yada. Which the MC has near impossible chance to attain. Good thing looky here theres a healer” 4) Skills used when fighting tend to get overhyped. “This guy is powering up a skill, which is so much better than last time. It will be impossible to escape from yada yada yada. As the skill hit the opponent, theres no escaping. Fortunately, the other guy has this yada, yada, yada. So he was able to dodge.” So the author took all the trouble to hype a seemingly inescapable attack only to be rendered useless by the other party. Explanations listed.
To be fair tho. It captured my interest again. As this is what wuxia/cultivating is suppose to be. Will check the next book.
Land of Magic by Kirill Klevanski is probably the best one yet in the Dragon Heart series. There is still a bit of retconning, but Klevanski appears to be mindful of the potential missteps he made in the Sea of Sands. He explicitly references chapters he overwrote in a way that seems to scream "I know what I wrote, trust me guys, what I'm doing is actually consistent. I promise", and he remembered the time limit that the dragon master had. The story is moving back in a positive direction, and the stakes were raised appropriately as well. I'm not sure I like the way Kelanski rewrites the threat level of previous foes. The Black Sect master was made into a poor swordsman, while now Sunshine was not really a true spirit night. Will any of Hadjar's victories from this story be recontextualized as lacking in impressiveness to boost the image of his next foe? Ah well. Overall, I liked this one quite a bit. A bit juvenile, a bit like the author is veering towards young adult fiction, such as a more mature version of cultivator's harry potter, but definitely an improvement.
A good start to the 3rd arc. The story feels promising, and new characters are interesting (I hope these ones will survive).
The pace was a bit janky compared to the smoothness of the previous book though. Felt a little rushed at times, as if there was a hurry to get on with the story. I would have liked to read more description of the capital of the Empire and surrounding places that the main character visits. Maybe some lore or other interesting titbits about the place that'd make me remember them longer.
Also the school as of yet does not feel like a school at all, but more of a guild. I understand that nothing is free in the world of martial arts, and all disciples need to pay their weight in gold, but the school has to at least look like teaching them back in some form.
Well, that said, look forward to reading the next one.
A good story , but not as good as the previous books in the series, in my opinion. Still earned 4 stars, but there were to many rushed scenes, to many points where the story was not fleshed out, and to many plot holes where things occurred that contradicted previous happenings. All in all it was still a good read and somewhat progressed the storyline, but something got lost in translation. We did find out a little bit more about The backgrounds of Traves and the Black General, so the overall story arc was still progressed. It just left me wanting. I will definitely read next book in series, but will have slightly lower expectations.
After 6 books the magnonimity of author's imagination continues and I see that there are 20 books in the series!!!! Kirill clearly has out-of-the-chart talent to simply expand the horizon, just when we thought "this is it". Though few phrases are getting repeated (like: ...sent to forefathers), I do not feel bored at all.. Great going Kirill, very great imagination+words-construct indeed.. Most importantly it is part of Kindle-Unlimited.. Very generous too...
I have to say this is perhaps my fav book in this series. So glad hadjar got out of the sands, i dont think he belonged there. Just a few wrong words but def not bad at all. I like the new friendly characters and sad at the loss of others. I was disappointed hadjar wasn’t back online’ yet but just under 30 to go. I wish the kitten was more in the story as i like her and even Einen has become a good friend along with the elf’s. Great job
This was yet another fantastic addition to the series. I never want it to end and cannot wait for the next book. They say authors create and live in their own world but kiril has created something so much more than that. His imagination is endless and I’m thankful we have the opportunity to experience it.
Loved it but completely missing already light LitRpg elements
Really like the story I don't get the point of calling it LitRpg Wuxia when the game elements have been missing for whole two books now. The game elements were very light to begin with almost superficial but now they've been missing completely. It's a pretty good Wuxia story but a very lackluster LitRpg story.
Kirill is simply brilliant at par with Sanderson and then some.. Characters are fleshed out nicely, the story is paced evenly and manages to avoid the cliches that most fantasy books seem to be plagued with... Word building is solid and u want more of the story... So trust me in this and get into this series
Book still interesting. Perhaps too much fighting. But I am reading one book after the other. Perhaps a rest is needed in between. Good author, good translated, good narrator. Often an audio book is ruined by a poor narrator. Hope this team continues to work together.
Book 6, Land Of Magic, in the Dragon Heart series continued to action and intriguing story from the previous books. Book 6 took us away from the Sea of Sand and Mage City. Dropped us into Dahanatan and lots of trouble. And that trouble brought the realization that Hadjar and Einen need to grow in power. Fast or else. Still an enjoyable series this far along.
By far my favorite series, the characters in this cultivation world keep getting stronger and so does the mad general. Keep writing , can't wait to read what happens next.
I continue to be amazed at the vast scale of the world and the span of time within this epic series. I am eagerly awaiting the release of book seven, eight, nine,........ or however many it takes to get to 2000 chapters.
Really enjoyed this book and really enjoy this series. The author really put a lot of effort into world building and character development. Would definitely recommend
as always i love this series and just going through them very quickly. im confused as to why rhe dragon king didn't just slice his hand and do a oath to prove his innocence, somehow i believe he was framed. we'll see later on i guess. on to next book.
