I don’t know how many times we should repeat this but NO MEANS NO. It doesn’t mean Please, try harder.

Let me give you a little bit of context: I buddy read this with a friend of mine because we were drawn by the art style, which can be deceiving. This is basically a porn-with-plot so I wasn’t expecting much to begin with but oh, man. As the meme says: My expectations were low but holy fuck.

The MC is a girl who’s been friends with the firefighter fuck-boy protagonist since they were kids and after he saves her from a fire that happens in her home, he basically takes advantage of her and forces her into sex. Several times. She literally tells him to stop and he refuses. The guy even dares to say “C’mon, you can’t be the only one that feels good, right?”. So, yeah. FUCK BOY RIGHT THERE.

Now CONSENT is beautiful and important and you should try it. Always. If someone tells you to stop, you fucking stop. I don’t care who you are. YOU. FUCKING. STOP.

Anyway, this do have a beautiful art-style but I refuse to read a manga about sex without consent. I don’t like that shit.

This was one spicy manga! I knew this was going to be extremely explicit in terms of sex being on page but I don’t think I was prepared for it to happen as quickly as I did. The story itself focuses on a pair of childhood friends and they have some chemistry. He ends up rescuing her from a fire. Because she has nowhere to go she ends up staying with him and of course one thing leads to another. This has a very interesting trope to it which is very indicative of dub con. If you are not a fan of that it may not be the series for you because the consent lines are a little on the blurred side. There are points where she is clearly saying no but he continues to have sex with her. And it’s not done in a way that it appears to be sexual assault, but it definitely is clearly dub con. So I would be mindful of that going into it. I know that at first it appears as if it’s just smut but there is a plot and there is some character development to the story. I definitely enjoyed this volume and I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of the series.

This volume of manga is SPICY HOT!!!!!!!!!!

This childhood friends to lovers romance all centers around a business woman and her childhood friend, who is not only a fireman, but comes across as a womanizer. She has arranged mixers for him, but he doesn't commit to anyone.
He rescues her from a fire, and takes her to his home until she can make other arrangements. You can imagine where things go from there.
In this, we deal with the trope of a Japanese woman saying no, because the idea of having sex at all isn't something she can deal with. Because of this, the consent lines can look a little blurry. If you understand that, then I think you will enjoy this! He is a really good guy to her, and seems to have had genuine feelings for her for a long time. It's just amplified once they spend some one on one time together.

I would cautiously recommend!

This is a lot of fun - it nicely blends contemporary romance (in the genre sense; think Sarina Bowen) and manga romance to give us a stronger heroine than we usually see in the latter and a hero who can't figure out that sex without actually saying he likes her won't get the job done. And may I say that it's very nice to see someone realizing that the little girls who got Mom and Dad to buy them manga have grown up and might want to buy something a bit different.

I will be interested to see how many people decry this as hentai/porn. It's no more explicit than most BL series and much less explicit than the average romance novel, but I have a (bad) feeling that being sexually descriptive and not BL manga may rub some people the wrong way because we as a society aren't great with recognizing female sexuality as valid. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Anyway, Full Review Eventually Appearing on ANN.

It was all just sex and no story at all. Also the relationship felt very unhealthy and I was uncomfortable while reading this.

TW: Rape/Non-Con

I feel like I just wrote a review talking about exactly the topic of Consent. What is it with publishers commissioning and putting out this trash? I walked into this 100% knowing this was flat out hentai. It's got adult warnings on it, it's published in the US by the Adult arm of Seven Seas... so yeah, no one should be shocked this is porn. However, I just have one question... is it too much to ask to get some consent with my porn?

Reading the synopsis on the back you'd think this would run, essentially, like a nice Shojo manga, but with the characters going all the way. Oh boy, that is NOT what we got. One of the things I rather appreciated about Seven Seas taking on publishing this content is because it wasn't necessarily going to be a sex scene per chapter and, here's what I'm after, character development!! Yes, you heard me, I want character development with my smut. From the back of this you would think this is a child hood friend turned lovers story... but it doesn't play out that way and it, honestly, feels like the writer was meeting a quota of including a sex scene PER chapter. So, it feels more like that generalized short story hentai that requires that kind of stuff. Rather than volumes of characters developing their relationship. Another boon I was hoping for in this manga was that it had actual adults in it! I was pretty pumped to leave the high school concepts behind for a while. Yeah, I know the high school story line is popular and they basically get around the "they're just kids" by basically drawing everyone to be 30, except the obligatory loli character (shudder). But here comes this story of adult professionals! I was definitely into the idea even though the "sexy fireman" narrative doesn't do anything in my world.

Ok, so what exactly goes down. The two characters are actually childhood friends and one day the fireman character saves his friend from a fire and brings her back to his place. This could have been a good setup... except for one problem. She turns him down for sex. In fact, it happens multiple times and he ignores her. At this point I have no idea who would find this erotic. What really needs to be crushed is this stupid narrative of "when a girl says no, she might really mean yes"... like stop it with that trash. It wasn't cool in the old days it's certainly not cool now. I feel like, what it does is create some bizarre narrative in a rapists head of "yeah, but she really wanted it." Yeah... no...

I was extremely uncomfortable reading this and I can only imagine it being way worse for a woman. Instead this manga reads like a terrifying warning list for women in general. You know that childhood friend you grew up with? Yeah, it doesn't matter how well you know each other, he'll still rape you if he wants. You know that professional rescuer that saved your life? Yeah, he might rape you too. That guy that brought you to the festival and bought you all kinds of fun things? Yup, he might rape you when he gets you alone.

This whole narrative about the woman's body responding to forced sexual interaction needs to stop and stop hard. When people talk about things perpetuating "rape culture" this volume is a totally solid warning. It's not even that hard to turn this narrative around either... when Souma saves Ryo's life and brings her back to his apartment have her see him in a totally different light and consent! You know what makes sex way more awesome... having BOTH parties mutually want it! They could create conflict in different ways, like her being unsure if she really can build a relationship beyond sex with the guy (but, yeesh, have her be into having the sex)... or just something else that puts them on the path of building a relationship TOGETHER.

The art in this is pretty solid and on that front it had a lot of great points. But the story content is just not good... hard pass on this and I'll not be following it to volume 2.

(1.5 stars rounded down)

Fire in His Fingertips gives you exactly what you expect. It is pure hentai/erotica with a little bit of story thrown in between the "action". That is all fine and good, but it is also not without issues. There is a huge consent problem in this volume. When someone says no and then the other person involved keeps pushing because they know what is really wanted and then everyone is into it eventually, it is just not cute or cool or sexy. Listening to what someone says straight away and making sure there is enthusiastic consent IS cute, cool, and sexy. Fucking normalize it. It would be great to normalize seeing people practicing safe sex habits as well. And since I don't feel like putting up with bullshit today, how about we make the sex scenes better too. Grab some boobs, shove some fingers in, shove a dick in. Rinse and repeat. Super cool. How about some actual clitoral stimulation? Maybe some oral? I don't know, maybe make it about more than the man showing his dominance and that being the big turn on? Just some suggestions. Take it or leave it. Rant ended.

When you work in a bookstore, you get introduced to all kinds of books. Genres you thought you’d never read. Manga is one of those genres for me. I never had any interest. But after working at a local B&N with a large manga selection and having to spend a lot of time shelving and organizing them, I found myself intrigued, particularly by the plastic-wrapped “naughty” volumes. How explicit could these be? I picked Fire in His Fingertips, story and art by Kawano Tanishi, to read because the tagline, “A Flirty Fireman Ravishes Me with His Smoldering Gaze,” is hilarious. The story itself is not so funny.

Ryo and Souma have been friends for a long time, but Ryo has resisted getting romantically involved with him because her fireman friend sleeps around. However, when her apartment catches fire, she is rescued by Souma and he takes their friendship in a sexy new direction.

I have to say the sexual interactions between Ryo and Souma are a bit disturbing because I’m not 100% convinced that Ryo is an active, willing participant. Souma is very forceful and uses sex as a weapon to subdue her. It’s a bit of a gray area and open to interpretation. However, she’s also secretly in love with him and her reluctance seems to stem (at least somewhat) from being thought of as another notch on his belt. Souma, for his part, tells her that isn’t the case. Is he telling the truth? Well, you won’t find out in this volume. I’m somewhat interested (particularly as an ex-boyfriend enters the picture to compete for Ryo’s love and that will probably mess with Souma’s overwhelming sense of macho-ness) so I may or may not read the next book in the series.

If you like romantically-themed manga this may work for you as long as you’re okay with graphic sex scenes. If not, stay away. As an American, I’m amused that all the tight-assed book banners are freaking out over mild scenes in YA novels yet haven’t discovered the naughty manga yet (which, although plastic-wrapped, can be purchased by anyone). Of course, I’m guessing the book banning morons would be fine with this volume because it’s hetero (if premarital) sex. The inny goes into the outy. Just the way their god likes it.

A lot of this is just fingering, and fucking. And while I'm all for that, I was hoping bit more story.

Basically main character's place gets burned down and she's staying with her childhood friend who's kind of a piece of shit and uses woman to unleash his firefighter nut on them all. And so with that he forces himself upon her but she...wants it? This is for sure fantasy buff childhood friend plowing me but I won't admit it storyline. So if take it like that, it's fun enough. A little to rapey feeling at points though that I didn't love. Sex scenes were solid enough, nice to see least the girl getting off more than the guy for once. More of that please.

Ahem. This review is going to be a bit of a doozy (and have some mentions of NSFW content) so. Please bear with me. And don’t look me in the eye if we know each other irl.

So. Uhm. This is a romance manga in name but really it’s just. Yeah. It. It’s mostly pornographic. I think it’s worth noting that despite my Puritanical upbringing, I don’t rush to label everything with a sex scene as pornographic. I’ve been reading quite a bit of josei manga and though all three series I’ve read have had some degree of sexual content, and I totally don’t think those were porn. This one however……. The plot is genuinely just a vehicle to get from sex scene to sex scene. As I mentioned in my review of Midnight Secretary, I do have some academic experience with explicit doujin and I feel like this book skews closer to that then a josei romance novel. What sets it apart from average NSFW Japanese comics, though, is its emphasis on our female protagonist’s pleasure and the fact that there is slightly more plot than you might expect from some illicit manga you’d find on a pirated website. That said, almost every chapter features some form of sex or explicit nudity so yeah. This is definitely not traditional romance. I guess erotica is where it lands? I guess?

Truth be told, I should have expected this. When I mentioned I had this title on hold, my coworker told me about how at his last library, there was a giant controversy about his ordering of this book. Apparently, even though he put it in the adult graphic novel section, a parent still objected to the title and its levels of explicit content. He switched libraries before he could find out about the resolution, but he did warn me about the spice levels before I checked this book. Like the innocent (read: stupid) little lamb I am, I didn’t heed this warning and assumed it would be about the level of some of the other romance manga I’ve read. Spoiler alert: it’s not. It’s probably the most sexually explicit book I’ve ever read in traditionally published print.

Now as for my rating. I am not the type of person to rate a book with lower stars just because it wasn’t what I expected. It’s worth noting that I genuinely had no problem with the spice level of this book! It caught me off-guard and I blushed through it, but I thought it was intriguing.

My issue is more so with the lukewarm consent issues and the pacing. I do think both Ryo and Souma are great characters and they’re both very hot. (That isn’t an actual spoiler, that’s just an embarrassing observation I had). And speaking of embarrassing observations,

So yes. I will continue this series with a careful eye. And I’ll probably buy or order a digital copy of the next volume. I had a heart attack think of the circulation department accidentally flipping through and going “ This is what Jesemin is reading?!”

Oof I’m conflicted about this one.

Pros -
- loved most of the art
- loved that it’s not g rated (yeah it’s porn 😂)
- loved the idea behind the story - childhood friends become lovers, fireman hero

Cons
- way too much sex and too fast. What? I know. Who am I? But really it broke all the tension that I adore in these books. I want that build up of butterflies and longing. THEN I want sex
- definitely dubious consent at best. Dubcon doesn’t bother me but he comes off as a total womanizing jerk. There were only a couple scenes/thoughts they stopped me from hating him (and I’m VERY tolerant of jerks!)
- I didn’t like how wet everything was 😂 wetness…yes, but like squirting everywhere and drool? I would have loved it toned back a touch I guess? Our heroine looked like she was dead and drooling in every scene 😆

Am I reading the next one soon? Yup! I did peek at some reviews and it looks like there might be a touch less sex and more character depth which would really help this one for me.

If consent is a requirement for you I would not touch this novel.

Steam: super high! I’ll count the sex scenes later but there’s like 5-6

3.5🌟

This was so chaotic 😂 Like truly I had no idea what I was expecting, but it was not this.

Mainly, I can’t slap a 5/5 on this bad boy because of the dubious consent. I just wish Souma would use his brain for more than 2 seconds. That’s all I need. I just need him to think for more than 2 seconds before he just barrels into doing whatever he wants.

Tbh, what truly makes this dubcon instead of noncon is that Ryo ALWAYS ends up confirming in her internal monologue that she does enjoy what she’s doing with Souma. If it weren’t for that, I’m not sure I could have powered through with this.

That being said, I LOVE the artwork in this manga! It’s so pretty. And truly the smut leaves nothing to the imagination 😳 This is fully uncensored in the English edition. Wow.

We got some sprinklings of plot in this volume, but not too much. If I’m honest, I would have been more okay with the dubcon if we’d gotten a little bit more build-up where it’s a little bit clearer that they’re both yearning for each other before Souma is just like, “I know you want me, baby 😏”

Anyway. I already own vol 2, and I will FOR SURE be picking it up 😂👌🏼

A pretty decent erotic romance manga. I enjoyed the plot of the fireman rescuing his long-time friend from an arson attack. The love scenes were very creative. I just wish there weren't such dubious consent in this first volume, even if the two leads do have genuine feelings for one another.

Truth is, I like a bit more romance when it comes to these types of romances. I like the wooing and all that desire and tension. These two are clumsily falling in and out of bed with one another, while feeling emotionally fraught and insecure. It’s a little painful to read.

Souma is a flirt who’s afraid to be vulnerable with the one he really likes and Ryo is insecure about having sex with her childhood friend who seems like he’d change his mind about her at anytime. Pair that with her constant cries of “NO” and this is sort of a mess. Eventually, many, many chapters from now they grow secure in their relationship and love for one another. And, Ryo changes her “no” to expressions of her love for Souma, while he learns how to not be an immature asshole, kind of. From what I’ve read online this isn’t the manga for me, but there’s something to it.

The print version holds much more consent than the online version. Translation is so interesting to me. I wonder which is more accurate, the fan translation or the official English print?

okay. I am not sure if anything was actually changed for the english manga physical version of this, or if I just read another poorly translated version online, but this was less non-con than I remember. it’s more dub-con, and even then I think it’s fairly clear that ryo is into it, but is trying to hold back because she’s denying her feelings while trying to protect her heart.

this is 90% smut for sure 🔥(//∇//) but it’s definitely geared towards woman readers, which makes it fun smut. the non-smut parts are also surprisingly sweet, since ryo and souma are childhood friends. this gives them a solid foundation and an interesting background to their relationship. he’s got it so bad for her!! yeow. love the yukata festival scene, as usual. and the humor both in the main story and the extras at the end is actually v funny (the scene where she tosses him out of the locker room made me crack up).

def going to read the next - happy to support more josei manga!

Alles, was passiert, passiert im gegenseitigen Einverständnis.

So etwas gefällt mir immer total.
Ich habe mir jetzt gleich Band 2 bestellt.

The first time I came across this h🐰ntai was on a website. Sure the steamy scene were good and all, but like everyone is saying in the comments "Consent is Everything!" Understandable that consent is everything and that it's ✨magical✨ to ask the person who is doing intercourse with. But the thing is that in h🐰ntai sometimes there's consent and sometimes there's not. However, in this magna/comic in the first volume of this erotic romance Ryo's apartment complex is burned to the ground. Lucky, Ryo's childhood best friend is a firefighter to save her. Now, the tricky part comes in. He allows her to stay at his place instead of her going to her parents house or a friend's house. Ryo quickly builds a line between him and her. But the line is crossed and he takes advantage of her and I guess you can say he r🌸pes her? She's obviously turned on by this and like all classic h🐰ntais he teases her about it. The steamy scene were great and if I do say so it made me feel something 😉
