Wow, was this a lame book. No real mystery here; you’ll have it figured out in the first few chapters. No character development, and certain scenes kept getting repeated word for word, it was weird. Sorry but I can’t even call this book fun. I finished it because I like to finish books I start, so therefore, I’m sorry I started this book.

Waste of time

Predictable plots, repetitive facts, poor character development. Not even remotely scary. I only finished reading this book because I always finish what I start.

Author constantly repeats scenarios

Author has an EXTREMELY hella annoying way of repeating different scenarios that we the reader, already know about . sometimes, the SAME SCENARIO MULTIPLE TIMES. The book lost a star for the more I had to see these ridiculous repeats. Book was alright, I knew immediately who the killer was, there was no guessing. It was definitely NOT a horror, just suspenseful paranormal

This was a good story. I would of given more stars but for a few things. One that was way to my repeats. Reading over the same thing is annoying. Two there was just a little to much talk over bullshit.

Not worth reading

tulsajazzer@gmail.com I think this too generic. Not worth my time to read it. It is being written in first person.

A paranormal cozy
It is hard for me to call this fast paced haunted house story a mystery. It was rather obvious who the guilty person was. Cassandra has to figure out how to help her ghost uncle out. What to do with his home. How to get her family on even footing. Action-packed. I did not care for the repetition "filler" at the end of the book. It was still a good read.

First time reading Connor Donnelly. Would have rated this book higher but repeating the incidents over and over was unnecessary. Characters were great, story line was good and overall would have a been a really great book except for the overkill on repeating. Recommend.

that’s 1 1/2 hrs I’ll never get back

It’s hard to come up with much positive to say. The last 3-4 chapters were good and if the entire book had been written at that level I would have been a 5 star rating. Instead I don’t ever want the aggravation of trying to read another book by this author.
It is obvious that there was no attempt at proofreading. In two different places 2-6 pages of writing is duplicated in slightly different words. Among other things it was extremely confusing that they missed that they duplicated the same information not once but twice. This is something that should have been caught by the author before publishing. How it ended was interesting but it was obvious who the “bad guy” was by the third chapter. The main character was written at the beginning of the book like the author was setting up her to be unstable from post-partum depression or psychosis. She really wasn’t particularly likeable until over half way through the book. There was no need to explain every time she ate with her husband that she ate faster than everyone else and that it was just too hard to focus enough to slow down. Some of her behavior could be explain if she had been late teens, early 20s but based on the information provided she had to be mid to late 20s, my best guess was 26-28 minimum.
I’m just really confused by the extreme difference in the writing between most of the book, but especially the first 3-4 chapters, and the last few chapters. I really wanted to like this book and am really disappointed that I couldn’t. I have a second book from this same series just several books further in the series. I will wait a while until I’ve forgotten how badly it bothered me and hopefully will enjoy the entire book not just the last few chapters

They ain't afraid of no ghost

If you're looking for horror, you won't find it here. There is a ghost involved, but not the scary kind. The main characters are Cassandra, her husband Charlie, and their young son, Jackson. Cassandra's Uncle James was murdered in his own home and she is his heir. The young family moves into the house and it doesn't take long before Uncle James reveals himself, as a ghost, to his niece. He wants her help to bring his killer to justice. I'll be honest. I almost gave up on this book 3 times. I really did not want to continue to the end because the characters didn't seem to act realistically. The plot puts Cassandra through hell, but sometimes she comes off too much like Rambo. Her husband, Charlie, frustrated me more than any other character in any other book I've ever read. The revelation of the haunting and his responses to other harrowing events are the most underwhelming I've ever encountered. He shows love and concern for his family, but is the antithesis of his warrior wife. Some other characters were not frightened by the haunting either. Uncle James appears out of nowhere and it's no big deal. What the heck? To me, hauntings should not be taken casually. The best part of the book was near the end when Cassandra confronts the bad guy, who also happens to be the only guy who's afraid of the ghost. Lots of action here and well written. Kudos to the author for this. Read the book for yourself. You may like it more than I did. Happy reading!

Great story!!

I really enjoyed the story. There were just a couple of inconsistencies that bothered me, where something would happen and then a few pages later it was like it never happened. I actually went back those few pages to reread them to make sure I was remembering correctly. I also came across quite a few places where an event would happen towards the end of a chapter and the next chapter would start off repeating what had just happened, like we were watching different episodes of a show from one week to the next rather than reading a book. It was just excessive words that literally added nothing to the story because it was just a repeat of what I just read. But, I did like the story a lot, I enjoyed the characters for the most part, I could picture the house and other places pretty easily. I think with a little editing this would be a great book rather than a good one!

I think this is the best story I've read in this series so far. The basic story is straightforward, with a relatively simple motive and a poorly conducted investigation too eager to wrap things up and return to business as usual to complicate things. As is typical for this series, the lack of true justice results in a haunting until things are set right. Add reuniting with an old friend and other memories of the area, a little guilt, and some long-held secrets, and you have a winner. The dialogue is well-written, the pace is good, and interactions between the various characters was clearly well plotted. It's a pity this is the only volume in this series by this author, because I'd love another.

Good paranormal thriller!

I really enjoyed the story line of this novel. It was original and interesting while Sticking true to the haunted house theme. The characters were developed well throughout the novel.

Although it was pretty predictable, it kept my interest and was still thrilling. I feel that better editing of the final product would have really set this book apart from other paranormal thrillers. There was a good bit of repetition at the end of one chapter to the beginning of the next. This redundancy made the story a little lengthy.

I think that this is not really a horror book. A ghost story, yes. But not scary. As a matter of fact, after Cassie figures out his uncle is the ghost it became quite cozy and I even felt sad to see him go in the end. I knew who the bad guy was around 30% into the book. But I still did enjoy reading it. Although I did feel like it was crazy how there were so many grown men at some point but they still got overpowered by an old man. But, oh well.

Action packed story!

This haunted house book is not what it appears to be. The ghost in the house is actually friendly, and communicates with the people who have moved in. The actual villain in the story is not who you would think it is. Once discovered however, the villain is very much difficult to vanquish.

Best one yet....

I'm reading this series in order and I have to say, some of the other books were a little hard to get through... But this one was SO smooth to read, it flowed off the pages.
I really didn't want to put it down. I loved the characters, the town, the mystery, all of it!

Lots of repetition. I'm not sure why the author felt the need to end a chapter and begin the next chapter with the same info just reworded.. very odd. Characters were bland and so was the plot. Couldn't wait to be done with this book. It was so boring it took me far longer to finish it than I expected. Good material for putting you to sleep before bed though.

Good story.

Fairly well written. However some of the editing was a bit confusing. In a couple chapters it seemed was though the beginning of the chapter was written twice. Almost like they didn't like the way the first paragraphs were written so they rewrote them. Very confusing. But it was a good book. The character James was my favorite

I read this in the Haunted Secrets Boxset
This story I really enjoyed. Cassie tries to solve her uncles murder (ruled an accident) and his ghost helps her along the way. The writing was suspenseful and flowed beautifully. The characters were well written.

This story was good, not great. I've read many other Riveting Series books and this one is bit on the long winded side. I got bored with it honestly, I did finish it, but found that it was a bit of an unclimactic end to the villain. I wanted something worse for that terrible person.

One of the best reads ever!

This was an absolutely riveting read!! I appreciate the closure with the ending. Too many books don't give you a proper ending telling you what happened after all the excitement. Thank you again!

Like other stories

It sounded familiar to another story I read a few months ago and I am not sure if it was by the same author. The best part of the book was the ending right because there was so much detail that it drew me in.

Being deceived by the one person in town you trusted inexplectivly from the very beginning of your visit to your family's best relatives home, has to be so hard.
Well written

Beautiful ghost story.

I thought they might end up staying in the house. But I guess with all they went through there its best they bought a house 🏠 of their own. Best ghost story ever. I loved Uncle James 😢. M

A good story.

I consider this a ghost story more than a haunted house one. I knew early who the murderer is, but I still enjoyed it. I did not like the repetitive. There is action. Cassie and her family are nice.

Ok

The store line was a good one. The writing was done well. What I didn't like was how he repeated the whole first part of the book in the second part. Why repeat it, don't you think your readers can handle it without repeating.

Well done!

I enjoyed this book immensely! There were some spots that were to wordy with the main character’s inner thoughts but once you get past those to the real scene it was enthralling!

Ok but had an issue

A few times the chapter would end with a cliff hanger but the next chapter would do a rehash of the story before moving on to the part after the cliff hanger. It got a bit annoying
