Dark ending

An overall very good book that suddenly end with our heroine wanting to commit genocide. Its an unpleasant reversal of what was a rather light series before. I get the alien race is a threat but aside from Wing Commander 3, I don't think there's any bit of writing that really justifies planetary destruction to win a war. It's especially weird given that the protagonist is a fan of Star Trek.

Is this the end? Nope, this is full of the usual awesomeness!

Jeff surpassed himself in writing the end of this arc. And wow what a ride it was! So we have the Amelia that went she-hulk with her new armor and destroyed ships, annihilated aliens bent on destruction and domination. The worst? We learn nothing has truly ended. I can't wait for the next four books.

It's time to deal with the existential alien threat.

With each book, Haskell seems to understand better how to write in this universe. The pacing is as propulsive in this volume as in the previous volumes. There is better character development this time, both in believability and in the emotions evoked. The world development has proceeded apace. And both dialogue and the protagonist's internal monologue continue to improve.

This book is finally fulfilling some of the promise that I thought I saw at the beginning of the series. And the ending isn't a cliffhanger. If you made it through the first three volumes of the series, even if a bit reluctantly, you should definitely read this installment. Recommended.

I enjoyed this book but too much of it happened in space, which wasn't so easy to picture especially with the use of all the high tech weaponry and words. I still enjoyed it although the author ended the last book on a cliff hanger (which does get resolved in this book) and once again ends on another cliff hanger, seriously? So much goes on in these books that the reader or listener wants to continue and cliff hangers should not be needed, plus it gets annoying. I still really like the characters and Arsenal and Epic's problem solving skills, the banter and jokes is also a lot of fun. Off to see what happens next.
Just as her boyfriend is about to propose the super hero named Arsenal vanishes. She wakes up to find herself on an Alien spaceship. The Alien who kidnapped her needs her help another alien known as the Th'un have all but destroyed her planet and plan to do the same to earth. The Th'un put out a bounty on Arsenal's head and if They fear her enough to do that, then maybe she will be the one to stop them. The beings of light couldn't stop them but maybe a woman in a wheelchair chair with no super powers of her own can? Maybe if she uses alien technology to produce the ultimate suit, She might just be able to save Earth and the people she cares most about in the world.
I like the narrator. An epic story calls for an epic performance and that is certainly what we get.

Good addition

So, I’m assuming I’ll enjoying the series, but it lacks emotion. The scale of action is increasing and with it the emotional interpersonal connections seem to be getting lost in the shuffle. This book is a bit of a marvel like story, marvel never forgets the human elements, the tear jerkers and surprising intimate or personal moments. For me, that’s what is missing here. The interpersonal emotion. With Kate unavailable, and only brief interactions, action and tech took center stage in this volume instead of balancing it all out.

Good story still and definitely planning on reading more.

This is a bit more of a questionable installment in this series. Still the book moves along with quite a bit of action so I enjoyed it. But book 3 ends with the MC being mysteriously transported away, only for this book to begin by telling the reader that the person who transported the MC is a hero from another alien race. I mean, if the author was being honest, he would have added a footnote saying "That's right, I was just screwing with you. After all, I could have introduced the new character in an actually intelligent way rather than what I did. But this way I could end book 3 with a cliff hanger which I felt the need to do because I don't believe I'm a good enough writer to keep readers coming back without cliff hangers."

So your an alien coming to earth to get Arsenal's help. Do you radio her? No. You teleport her against her will. Never mind the fact that the only other people you know with teleporter tech are the evil aliens, you're going to do it any way. Oh, and all those tv and radio signals radiating off the earth? Just ignore those so you can't even communicate with the person you just kidnapped in an attempt to get help?????

I have enjoyed these books in large part because they aren't stupid. This book has a couple of noticeable exceptions. For example, we learn the evil aliens have a fleet of about hundred ships behind the moon. However, they land their two most important ships which are attacked by MC and c0. We never hear from the other ships again. Apparently they just left rather than protect the two ships they were there to protect??? And after leaving they never rearmed and returned???

So MC successfully deals with evil aliens on earth and so heads to friendly aliens' planet to deal with evil aliens there. However this planet has already been conquered by the evil aliens who have decimated its environment and have a small fleet in orbit around it. Worse, the evil aliens have kidnapped Arsenal's best friend. So now Arsenal must figure out how to capture and hack an alien vessel to get to the alien home world to rescue her friend.

Bottom line: Worth the read, but not a stellar installment.

There isn't a lot new in this instalment of the series. It is a pleasant read but written to the same formula as the previous three: a danger arises, Amelia gets a better suit which conveniently comes along, more danger, she saves the world, the suit sustains damage and you are left with a cliff hanger. Definitely interesting but not interesting enough for me to read the next one.

Another great book

If you liked the first books, you will love this one too. Lots of action and cool tech. Amelia fights aliens and (spoiler) happens which will lead directly into the next book.
I continue to be surprised at how good these short books are.
I recommend this series without hesitation to any reader of action or superhero fiction.
This is good stuff. Read this.

Ok so the plot was okay and the flow of the story was good. However I still think it was the worst in the series. There were several inconsistencies, but take it with a grain of salt as I do tend to nitpick. Also Tony/Tommy - pick one name for Fleet and stick with it.

This one seemed a little flat... one dimensional. I'm also worried that Amelia is going full Wesley Crusher. From now on, whenever she needs a miracle, it'll be "Safeties off please Epic."

I'll be reading the next installment, but my interest is waning.

So Massive, Even Light Can’t Escape

One hell of a conclusion for volume one!

Really hoping the author has book 5 already started as I’m not going to sleep well until it’s out!

This book took me by surprise. The action was amazing and the choices Amelia faces are out of this world. The technology discussed in this book was also incredible.

Uncomplicated Superhero Fun!

In the last novel an Alien invasion was prevented, but as is often the case: Things aren't that easy. Introduced to another Alien she learns that Whaaay worse is to come. So now Amilia has some upgrading to do to be ready to fight of an entire Alien Species to save the Earth.

Yeah Arsenal is a cool Hero and Amilia is a cool character. This is not a difficult plot to comprehend. Aliens are here, and we need to fight them. As is the rest of the series, there is ample story is this short novel. The plot progresses at a rapid pace while staying true to am almost comicbook like style of storytelling.

Overall this book was good fun to read. So go read this book for a uncomplicated, good time.

Not a fan of cliffhanger endings

This series started with great promise, but since aliens entered the picture things have gone downhill. The sloppy editing doesn't help either; Haskell desperately needs some beta readers to catch the spelling and punctuation errors.

Book 3 ended with a cliffhanger and so does this one, along with a literal deus ex machina to resolve the climax. Time for me to get off this ride.
