Althea Rose Mystery #1-3, 2.5, 3.5

The Althea Rose Mystery Set: 3 Novels and 2 Novellas

Rate this book
Three novels and two novellas in the Althea Rose Mystery series:

One Tequila
Tequila Key is just like any other small town – if that town boasts a voodoo priestess and a few white witches for flavor. Turquoise blue water and the best margaritas this side of Mexico make it hard to leave. I'm Althea Rose, co-owner of Luna Rose Potions & Tarot Shop, and I've just stumbled into a love triangle while trying to save my best friend from being accused of murder.

Tequila For Two
When a radical Pagan group blows into Tequila Key to celebrate the autumnal equinox, Althea Rose’s psychic senses start tingling. She goes on full alert after meeting Horace, a Gandalf wannabe who reminds Althea of an old man playing dress up. Soon, Althea is in way over her head as the full moon starts to rise and the clock counts down on the killer wandering Tequila Key’s quiet streets.

Tequila Will Kill Ya (Novella, 106 pages)
Tequila Key’s local white witch, Luna Lavelle, has been looking forward to celebrating All Hallows’ Eve with her new Wiccan group for months now. Little does she know that her perfect weekend is about to be ruined by a strange curse that descends upon Tequila Key. Together with voodoo priestess Miss Elva, Luna must work against the clock to save the residents of Tequila Key. When handsome Dr. James gets involved in the fight, Luna realizes that it isn’t just her life that is in danger – her heart is on the line too.

Three Tequilas
It’s hard to resist a good old-fashioned treasure hunt. When an esteemed institute in London hires Althea and her dive master buddy, Trace, to document a high-stakes treasure expedition, they are pulled into a game that neither of them had realized they were playing. In a race to find a rare Aztec emerald lost on a sunken pirate ship, Althea is forced to use every trick in her book to stay alive. Even magick.

Tequila Shots & Valentine Knots (Novella, 67 pages)
Valentine’s Day has arrived in Tequila Key and Miss Elva, the resident Voodoo Priestess, has been asked to concoct a love potion for a couple that needs some extra spice in their marriage. When her pirate ghost, Rafe, sees the potion and thinks it is for Miss Elva – all hell breaks loose. Get swept along on a fun Valentine's Day story in quaint Tequila Key.

I absolutely love this series! Let’s break it down. The main character is written incredibly. Althea is a wonderful cocktail made of confidence and vulnerability. She feels so real to me. The supporting characters, including Hank and Rafe, are so well-written. They accentuate all the best Althea has to offer without pulling attention away from her. I usually loathe love triangles but it just works here. I had a hard time choosing a team until book 3. #TeamTrace! Cash can go to Miami and stay there! Take your arrogant siblings with you, pal! Needless to say, I feel a strong way about him. I’ll be curious to see if the author changes my mind. (Doubt it.)

I really like the mysteries in each book. There are just enough red herrings to make it interesting without being busy. The plots are perfectly executed and I love the efficient but thorough way O’Malley sets her scenes and uses descriptors. It’s an art form that she has mastered. She can accurately paint a picture in a few words or sentences instead of pages.

Needless to say, I’m so excited to take this journey with Althea and crew. (Hopefully not Cash.)

3 full length stories, and 2 novellas in one set: good bargain.
I did not like Althea Rose, the main protagonist, in the first book: she seemed entitled, childish, a know-it-all scatterbrain, and on top not being able to decide between two men, but cuddling up to both, not quite cheating but close.
The further along I read, the more the characters grew on me. Althea and Luna, the Psychic and Witch duo, who mostly through Althea get involved into murder. Cash and Trace, Althea's new on-and-off sort of boyfriend, and her regular diving partner and old friend. And then there are Miss Elva (my absolute favourite) and Rafe the Pirate, latter appearing because of something Althea did, or rather did not. Oh and Beau, the owner of the Tiki Bar they all regularly frequent.
Each of the story revolves around a mystery, mostly murder, which falls to Althea and her friends to solve, and most of the time needs rescuing Althea at the end.
However, the characters are narrated with such a lot of humour, the stories told with such skill that you enjoy reading them. If events sometimes seem to be a bit far-fetched.....this is about a psychic, a witch and a voodoo priestess after all...

I would give it more stars if I could

I was so into Althea Rose and the adventures she has with her friends I read the box set and the following book in three days. The way the characters are presented they come to life in full color in my mind. They truly are characters. I wanted to start this review with A witch, a physic and a voodoo priestess walk into a bar. They do spend a lot of time in the bar owned by Beau their best friend and co conspirator. They encounter corrupt police officers, demons and just plain bad guys but with a little magic and sometimes help from the pirate ghost they accidentally released everything comes out right. I love the very inventive plots in the stories and the unconventional ways they go about foiling the bad guys and ensure they get what they have coming to them.Patricia Rice presents characters and plot twists that hold my attention waiting for the next surprise. I highly recommend her books and especially this series.

Good series. Lots of repeating of characters and their stories/repeat who they are. I felt like a lot of the details were duplicated (like their jobs, their details, the story of their lives) vs adding more details to the murder mystery. Also I noticed the ending of each book was poorly written. Like the author was working on finishing the book as quickly as possible.

However, it was a very easy and Quick read. It was nice to step away from romance and read this series.

I will also say, it would be teen/young adult friendly. In my personal opinion.

Does include: witch craft, tarot card talk, romance, murder, crystals, spell casting.

Also: good reads does not count all the books individually. It couldn’t the whole book series as 1 book

Lathes Rose

I am loving the writings of Tricia O'Malley! When I saw an excerpt about the Tequila Key books...I mistook Althea's name for the same as my beloved PitBull Atreaya Rose!! Once I started reading I realized my mistake, but was already booked on the book!! I love books with mystery, romance and a good splash of magic, and Tricia O'Malley has supplied them all in spades!!!

For a Small Town There’s Lots of Action.

What do you get when you are psychic with magic, your best friends are a White Witch and a Voodoo Queen in a small town?
Read Tricia O’Malley’s books 1-3 & 2 novellas of The Althea Rose Mystery box set.

The stories are overflowing with colourful characters, sinister bad guys, one Pirate Ghost and some very yummy steamy men.
Well written you feel like you could be immersed in the story with the characters.

Enjoying this series

Florida Keys, sun, water, romance, what’s not to love about this series featuring a psychic, a white witch, a voodoo princess and a ghost pirate. I love the water so the scuba experiences are delightful if not dangerous sometimes. I plan to follow this intriguing series.

All of Tricia O’Malleys Books Are a Great Read!

Currently reading the Tequila books but am working my way through all of her books. Great characters- a little kooky, a little spooky and a lot magical with fun plots.

Whether in Ireland or Florida or other locales, the books are so much fun to read!

So, a white witch, a psychic and a voodoo priestess get together. What could possibly happen? Lots! Great story line, great characters, love the plot twists.

Althea Rose

I like short stories. The books kept me wanting to see what happens next. Now I want to read Tequila 4 to see if Althea decides if she really loves her best friend more than Cash.

Great series so far

This is a great series so far. I actually made it halfway through book one when I just knew in was going to have to read the entire series that's available.! 2 days later I've finished the boxes set already. They're short , but the characters are lovable!

Life in Tequila Key, complete with a psychic, white witch and voodoo priestess with a ghostly love interest is a non-stop, zany adventure. Add in a (sometimes annoying) love triangle for our feisty heroine and you have the ingredients for laugh out loud, good times even without the namesake drink.

I need more Althea!

I have enjoyed every one of these from the start. I am so sad to have read the last one 😥😥 Each book has kept me guessing, and wrongly, on who did it. The last one is definitely my favorite. I need to know about Althea and Trace!!

The characters stay true, first book thru third. Setting on the ocean and diving eye opening. It shows how friends can stay close even in their differences. I like the good guys winning.
