description

Dayna peered at her reflection in the mirror. She was sick of her life.
Dayna Dalton is used to be looking down on.

Her mother, Becky, was called...free spirit at best and a loose woman at worst, and that reputation has haunted Dayna ever since.

Dayna never knew her father because of that, the whole town has had their eyes on her since the beginning.
"Have you no shame?"
So what if she has a crush on the (married) town sheriff?

So what if she's had casual sex?

SO WHAT?

Eff them and their judgemental, petty minds.

And yet, there's a part of her that's beginning to believe all that is said about her.
She hung her head in shame, thinking of what her sorority sisters from Georgetown would feel if they knew where Dangerous Dayna Daltan had ended up
But then....there's someone (something?) that's starting to circle the small town of Bulwark.

Circling ever nearer to her.

And in a town like Bulwark, that's never a good thing.

Ahhh. It was so much fun to delve into this world again.

I definitely think the author is getting better with each book.

Dayna's character was pretty well-developed and I enjoyed watching her come into herself (especially considering how broad-strokes she was before).

I especially enjoyed checking in on previous Bulwark characters (go Sheriff Clay Finnes! I'm so happy for him and his wife!).

The plot...it took me in a direction I didn't expect. I went in there with a certain...notion...of how the book was going to play out and was surprised (and delighted) to find a completely different direction was taking place.

All in all, this was a really fun, quick book!

WIth thanks to the author for sending me a free copy in exchange for an honest review

Perceived by the town to be the proverbial bad apple that didn’t fall far from the family tree, Dayna Dalton never got a break. In love with a man who has always been off limits, the spirited small town reporter can’t seem to find a man to capture her heart, no matter how many she goes through.

When strange things begin to happen in town and Dayna is witness to one of them, but ordered not to write a story that could make her job worthwhile, but why can’t she report the truth?

Welcome to Brit Lunden’s THE DEVIL AND DAYNA DALTON, a short read that moves along at an excellent pace, drives home the atmosphere of the small town and carves out lifelike characters that are multi-layered and filled with attitude, humor and edginess that begs the question, what is going on in Bulwark?

A great way to escape when time is limited to peek a slice of life that is a little beyond the norm.

I received a complimentary copy from Brit Lunden. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I have read quite a few books by Brit Lunden, who has become one my favourite authors. The story about The Devil and Dayna Dalton, she is a reporter and most sadly her reputation has been ruined since birth. Dayna is a wild child. Every reader will take something form this story. what I found quite heart breaking, is that Dayna can't see why her mother can't be like a normal mother, she just wants to be loved unconditionally no matter what she does. The story turns into much more, but I don't want to spoil the novel for anyone. Brit Lunden is an author you can rely on to tell a good page turning story.

The Devil And Dayna Dalton
A Bulwark Anthology, Book 9
By: Brit Lunden

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆☆

"Hell is empty, and all the devils are here."
William Shakespeare

Once more to Bulwark, Georgia, and this time, In The Devil And Dayna Dalton, the story centers around Dayna Dalton, the reporter first seen in Bulwark.

"She had a built-in reputation, care of her mama. Didn't matter if she was free with herself or not; she was Becky Dalton's white- trash daughter, and that was enough for the town."

I at once liked Dayna and felt so sorry for her because I know how judgmental small towns are. How can she change the perception? Sadly, she can't. Dayna's biggest flaw is her lifelong obsession with Sheriff Clay Finnes. He, however, has only ever wanted to be friends, ignoring her advances.

"Every man she dated had to measure to his impossible standards. She was invariably disappointed, as no man could compete with Clay Finnes."

Dayna is so lost, lonely and discouraged. Her job is unsatisfying because she would rather report things that matter instead of small town gossip. She spends her time chasing someone and something that doesn't exist. Clay will never be her true love.

"I just want to know what it's like to be loved unconditionally no matter what I do."

Fortunately, Dayna lives in Bulwark where anything can happen. Her dream of love might come true, just not in the way she thinks. One day, she encounters a man, the Devil, in the woods who claims to love and want her. Later, Dayna thinks maybe she dreamed the whole thing, but that doesn't explain the mysterious cloak now in her possession. Her strange neighbor also says some odd things leading Dayna to believe all of it is real. As this bizarre situation unfolds, Dayna considers her life and her future.

"She ran after relationships she knew could never develop. This was torture. This was hell. Dayna realized she had dedicated her entire life to wanting the impossible."

Dayna must decide to continue down this path, this job, this life, in this town, or believe in the Devil. She can be his forever. It is Dayna's decision alone. In Bulwark, you never know what might happen. This story is my favorite so far! It is unique in every way. Dayna is an amazing character, flawed, fierce but easy to love. I like the sinister fairy tale vibe and the gothic atmosphere. The story is fun to read, and I think it should be on everyone's tbr! Now, if you'll excuse me,...

"I have a date with the Devil."

Raw and edgy could be the descriptive phrase for this work. The raw nature is overworked. There are no redeemable characters in the entire story. The lead character is beyond flawed and her end destination is probably the most logical location for a person with no morals, ethics or character.

The paranormal aspect takes a long time to come to fruition. When it finally comes into view, the book sags. As a voracious reader I have already read two amazing books that worked bringing mythical beings into the modern world. This book pales in comparison.

Often stilted and just plain nasty, this book could appeal to the lowest common denominator. Not a book I would recommend. For the longest time I wondered if Dayna would sleep with the kitchen sink as she had slept with everyone else.

WOW, The Devil and Dayna Dalton by Brit Lunden is the best of the Bulwark Anthology…so far.

Dayna Dalton is a small town reporter in love with someone she can never have. She is considered white trash, just like her mother. She is relegated to writing fluff stories for the paper but dreams of that big story that has some meat on its bones.

I love when she ripped off the T shirt….LOL And that was at 10%, so I am really looking forward to reading on.

Don’t tell her not to do something, because that only makes her more determined to do it.

Hmmm…who is that caped man?

Mrs Sweetpea, well I have a weird feeling about her.

There are strange happening in this small town, but no one is sharing the secrets. It’s all hush hush, so when Dayna hears someone calling her, luring her into the woods, she follows. Now…that can’t be bad, can it?

I love Dayna Dalton. I feel she has been treated unfairly and now that some of my questions are answered everything starts to come together and I can see some happiness on the horizon.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Devil and Dayna Dalton by Brit Lunden.

The Devil and Dayna Dalton (Book 9) A Bulwark Anthology is a short, novella from the pen of author Brit Lunden. Dayna Dalton is known as what we might colloquially call, “trailer trash”. She grew up in Bulwark, Georgia and like her mother had gained an unfair (in her case) reputation as the town slut. From an early age, Dayna had designs on the gorgeous Clay Finnes but all through High School, Clay seemed impervious to her charms, placing her fairly and squarely in the “friend zone” or the “sister zone”. Unable to achieve her ambitions of a life with Clay, Dayna managed to escape the incestuous small-town atmosphere of Bulwark and attend Georgetown University, on a full scholarship, where she studied journalism. Just as Dayna’s career was beginning to take off, she loyally returned to Bulwark to take care of her mother who suffered a cancer scare. Now a reporter on the local Bulwark newspaper, she is still drawn to Clay Finnes, now the town’s sheriff but also now married, with a child. Realising she can never have Clay she runs through a coterie of men, never quite finding the love and care she craves, until… strange things begin to happen in Bulwark.

As a reader, I’m not a big fan of novellas, as I like the characters to develop and grow over the length of as novel, however, for The Devil and Dayna Dalton (Book 9) A Bulwark Anthology, I’m prepared to make an exception. Author Brit Lunden has given us a complex character in Dayna Dalton who, having run the gamut of the worst in relationships is ready, willing and able to give herself utterly and totally to the man who steals her heart… and what a man he was! The paranormal feel to the novella coupled with the author’s vivid and breathtaking description of the people and the environment of Bulwark was a true bonus to this story. The story flows and yes, I was a little annoyed when it ended so quickly but rather than dwell on that, I’d just say Lunden has given me a thirst and desire to read more of her work and indeed more about this fascinating female lead she has created. I loved the way she so accurately portrayed the dynamic between the public and private persona of Dayna Dalton. Written off, virtually from the day she was born, Dayna has the spirit and the intelligence to rise above people’s perceptions of who she is and most importantly, not care what people think of her. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read and one I can highly recommend, especially if you love strong, female, leads, as I do and the paranormal touch doesn’t hurt at all.

‘The devil is in the details’ – German proverb

For a famous author of children’s books to take on the nom de plume Brit Lunden in order to switch to adult novels, it seems impolite to praise her as Carole P. Roman. But the lady knows this world of literature and has written guides to assist new authors in the intricacies of Indieworld publishing, and she includes that beautiful photograph of her warm countenance on this site, offering those of us who have followed her rise in stature permission to share the ‘secret’. The multi-author BULWARK ANTHOLGY is her first work in the ‘adult fiction’ genre – first came THE KNOWING and now THE DEVIL AND DAYNA DALTON, Book 9 of the anthology.

It would not seem to be an easy step to go from children’s fantasy to adult paranormal thriller, but Brit/Carole is so polished a writer that she makes this entry into the 'adults only' realm with ease and significant success. She offers a synopsis that brings clarity to the plot without spoiling the dramatic events of the ending. ‘Reporter Dayna Dalton's reputation has been ruined since birth. The daughter of wild child, Becky Dalton, is expected to follow her mother's footsteps; never given a chance to prove she's different. Dayna's been in love with Clay Finnes since she was a teenager. Her unrequited love for Sheriff Finnes leaves her empty. He's happily married and unavailable. Instead, Dayna finds herself stuck in the revolving door of bad relationships. But this is Bulwark, Georgia, a town where strange things are always happening. Dayna is doomed to this loveless life until she can find someone who will appreciate the depth of her character. Can she overcome her fears and look beyond her own perceptions to accept a greater love?’

Fine story idea for starters, but the glow of her polished prose is what makes this scintillating book memorable. For example, ‘The Bulwark Advance preferred her to write…fluffy pieces. She sneered thinking of the crap on her computer, the half-written article about the elusive Easter Bunny that awaited its final edit. She hung her head in shame, thinking of what her sorority sisters from Georgetown would feel if they knew where Dangerous Dayna Dalton had ended up. There’d be hell to pay in the form of eternal humiliation...’

Tension, fine character building, unexpected frights, and bizarre entries into that unknown place we call paranormal – they are all here and beautifully developed for a short novella. Looks like we will be hearing more from ‘Brit Lunden.’

The Devil and Dayna Dalton is book 9 in the Bulwark series by Brit Lunden. I have been listening to this series by audiobook. Dan McGowan is the narrator and I just love how great he is doing with this series. This is a creepy series, not so much scary, but definitely creepy. Each book in the series is very short. Less then 2 hours on audio, great for a car ride or just a relaxing break. This series does not have to be read in order. They are each written as stand alones. I do prefer to go in order but I went from book 1 to book 9 with no problems, I do want to back up and see what happens in 2 through 7 and beyond.

Bulwark is a small town in Georgia where weird things are always happening. In this book you are learning the story of Dayna Dalton. Dayna is a reportor in Bulwark. Her reputation or actually her mother's have sadly followed her throughout her life. Dayna was also a wild child. But really the only thing Dayna ever wanted was someone to love her unconditionally. She has a thing for the Sheriff and has had since high school. He does not feel the same for her.

As a reporter she is stuck writing fluff stories. She has been waiting on that big story. Then she is attacked by a wolf and other strange occurrences happen that really get this book moving.

I love the latest installment of The Bulwark Anthology! The Devil and Dayna Dalton (Book 9) A Bulwark Anthology by Brit Lunden delves deeper into the life of small town reporter, Dayna Dalton. Dayna is originally introduced in Brit Lunden's first book, Bulwark, and makes cameo appearances within other stories in the Bulwark Anthology.

In this book, the reader learns more about Dayna's trialed past. As her life begins to unravel before her eyes, a stranger enters the scene, and Dayna is given the opportunity to experience love in a way that she never imagined. However, this intoxicating love comes with a price.

The Devil and Dayna Dalton is a gripping quick read! A great addition to the incredible line-up in the Bulwark Anthology series!!

Small towns don't give people a break and Bulwark, Georgia is no exception! Mo matter how she tries she can not rid herself of her Mom's reputation. Not that Dayna is any better truth be told--but she actually wants to be. She has had a major crush on Clay Finnes forever and he still remains just a friend. None of the other men in town can seem to satisfy or make her happy. There are always strange happenings surrounding a slimy pond of water that appears and disappears. She is told by her old babysitter not to go a certain way--of course she does not listen. Some really strange things happen-I can't say anymore without giving away the story!-I will say that the ending will throw you for a loop. I will let you decide if it is a happy ending or not.

I received a paperback version of this book from the author for enjoyment and a possible review.

The Devil and Dayna Dalton is the ninth book in  A Bulwark Anthology series by Brit Lunden. While this is a part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone novel. A fast-paced novella that is sure to leave you wanting more. I feel that the story would have flowed smoother if the story was longer giving the characters and storyline more time to develop. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read. * I received a complimentary copy from RABT Book Tours and the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review..*

The Devil and Dayna Dalton was the third book in the series that I listened to on Audible and it was my favorite of the three. Cathy McGowan narrated this book and I found that I prefered her as a narrator. Dayna Dalton was a great main character and I liked that I got to see a different view on Sheriff Finnes through the eyes of Dayna Dalton. Overall, I really loved this series and this book in particular.

The Devil and Dayna Dalton is the ninth installment and Brit Lunden’s contribution to the Bulwark Anthology. Readers are brought back to Bulwark, Georgia, a town wrapped in mystery and separated from the rest of civilization. The town has a lot of strange happenings in it.
I really enjoyed The Devil and Dayna Dalton. The story of Dayna Dalton and Clay Finnes was intriguing and entertaining. I liked the opposites attract of the tale and wondered throughout if they will be able to fight to be together. It was quite the adventure to be taken back to Bulwark. The book was romantic, magical, mysterious and suspenseful. There are a few scenes that was a little spooky and creepy that made me think a little bit.

I had the pleasure of listening to the audio version of The Devil and Dayna Dalton. Cathy McGowan is a great job bringing this story to life. Her performance was perfect and entertaining. I believe she narrated it just the way the author was meant to be read. It is only a couple of hours long and I had no problem to continuously until I finished to the end in one day.
I am giving The Devil and Dayna Dalton four and a half stars. I would love to read more of the Bulwark Anthology, as well as, other books by Brit Lunden in the future and see where else she her imagination will take her readers. I recommend it for readers who enjoy paranormal romance.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Nothing was going right for Dayna. She hated her life. She returned to Bulwark, Georgia because her mother was sick. She gave up her job in Washington D.C. and now worked for the Bulwark Advance. She hated that job. Desperate to be loved, she “went from relationship to relationship, feeling empty.” Clay Finness, the only man she cared about, was a man she couldn’t have. To make matters worse, she disliked her neighbor, Thelma Sweetpea. Thelma Sweetpea, was “an ornery bitch with a sting as sharp as an angry wasp.” She watched Dayna like a hawk and judged her harshly. She had one warning for Dayna, “whatever you do, don’t go by Old Jericho. That old puddle just keep getting bigger and bigger. Someday it gonna swallow someone like you up whole.”

The Devil and Dayna Dalton is an engaging combination of paranormal, mysticism, and romance. Brit Lunden’s latest novella offers enough about characters, creatures, and setting to give members of teen and adult book clubs enough to have lively discussions. For fans of the Bulwark Anthology, Veolume 9 will be a welcomed addition.

Brit Lunden has written more than 50 books in various genres and under different pen names. Bulwark, her first venture in adult fiction, has won numerous awards. The Devil and Dayna Dalton is Volume 9 in the Bulwark Anthology.

I received this book from a dear and generous friend to whom I'm eternally grateful.

I'm so glad I read this book. When I met this character early in the anthology, I really didn't care for her. In truth, I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't like her at all. Shame on me for being so judgemental. I have struggled in the past myself and could identify with her in this book. Now I understand her much better. Not only do I empathize with her, but I would want to be friends with her. I admire her courage and tenacity in the face of much adversity. I wish her well.

If you feel the same way as I did after first reading about Dana Dalton. then I strongly suggest you read this book. You will get a better understanding of her true character. I thank the author for writing this book allowing me to get to know her better.

I can relate to the romantic yearning and frustration that Dayna Dalton feels in this book. The devil is something I have always associated with being an evil force, but the author gives the devil an alluring romantic quality that I find unique. Two of the characters in this book are presented in one way in the beginning of the book, but toward the end of the book, they are presented differently. I love the change that Brit Lunden gives the characters of Sheriff Clay Finnes and Mrs. Sweetpea. These characters are her love interest and her baby sitter respectively I like the way these two characters change the way Dayna Dalton perceive her world. This book is short, but the characters are memorable and relatable, and that is why I enjoy this book.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

What a quick fun read this was. New to the author I had no clue what to expect as I started reading about the life of Dayna Dalton. As the daughter of what is pretty much the local whore she is expected to behave a certain way though she refuses to do so. Instead she does her best to make her life better even if she does feel like something is missing. Then something weird happens and bam she finds out secrets about the world she never knew with the man she was made to be with. Makes for fun story that is over before you know it. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

The 9th book of the Bulwark Anthology, I think this might be my favorite of the three that I have read. Why? If I type that I will be giving ending for this novel.

With that, if you like paranormal romance, this is a great choice. It’s a bit dark, but it is actually about romance and finding someone who is a little more who loves you for you. Dayna Dalton isn’t a perfect person, and has had a difficult life, but in this story she finally gets a happy ending.

And the person, being, thing, she gets a happy ending with is one of my favorite story character… people… things?

This is the first of the Brit Lunden books that I've read, and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. It's a fast read--113 pages, in all--and it moves along at a fast pace. As a writer myself, besides "watching" the story unfold, I thoroughly enjoyed how the author developed the characters, especially that of Becky Dalton.

You will NOT be disappointed.

What I Loved:
I really enjoyed jumping into this series again! I liked that I met new characters, but still had some of the ones that have been there from the start.

How I Felt:
I listened to the audiobook of The Devil and Dayna Dalton. My review includes my thoughts on the book overall, as well as the experience of listening through audio.

The Devil and Dayna Dalton is set in Bulwark, a small town filled with weird, paranormal happenings. The main character in this book was Dayna Dalton, a girl who has grown up under the shadow of her mother’s promiscuous reputation.

When Dayna spends the night with someone, it's the talk of the town, as they all chitter-chatter about how she's living up to her mother's reputation. When her unrequited love of Clay Finnes, the married sheriff of Bulwark gets to be too much for her, she becomes pissed off and tired of taking crap from others. She's on a warpath, but is interrupted by someone new. Who are they? Where did they come from? Dayna feels an ever-growing need to answer these questions and she gets a bit more than she bargained for.

The story had just the amount of spookiness that I have enjoyed from the other books in the Bulwark series! I liked that there were secrets that were revealed that I didn’t see coming. There were others that I suspected but still enjoyed seeing the reveals as they played out. I liked the personality that each character embodies in these books. They feel like people you would know in your everyday life. It makes their stories so much more interesting!

The narrator is Cathy McGowan, and overall, I thought she did a nice job. I wasn’t fond of the voice she used for Dayna’s mother, but other than that character, I enjoyed her reading of the story. She has a slow pace to her reading, which can always be changed in your audio app if you prefer a bit of a faster speed. She was very easy to understand, and she did a nice job with expressing emotion through her voice. I enjoyed listening to the audio version and would recommend it. The listening time was pretty short at 2 hours and 32 minutes, so it is a very quick listen.

To Read or Not To Read:
I would recommend The Devil and Dayna Dalton to readers that enjoy a paranormal story with a bit of a spooky twist. This is the ninth book in the Bulwark Anthology Series, but I do feel that any of the books in this series can be read as a stand-alone. If you enjoy this book, however, I would highly recommend checking out the others in the series.

I was provided an advanced reader's copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

My full review of this book will post to my blog on 4/30/20. All of my reviews can be found at https://shejustlovesbooks.com/all-boo...

Note: Even though this is #9 in the Bulwark Anthology, it works just fine as a stand alone story.

I first met Dayna Dalton (newsreporter) in another story from the Bulwark anthology but she was just a minor character there. Here, we get to see that she is a little bit more than the eye candy she played in Bulwark. Sure, she’s always had a thing for the sheriff (Clay) going back to highschool. But she’s built a career and has a drive for real journalism.

One thing I have enjoyed about these interconnected stories is the paranormal aspect. Wolves, fairy tale creatures, time travel – there’s always something magical and strange happening in the city of Bulwark. In this story, it at first looks like it might be a story that involves a wolf. But then in walks a devil with vertical slits for irises. Dayna is not sure where this will go, but she’s intrigued and wants to get fantastic story.

There is some sexuality in this story and it was done well. Dayna is a sexual person naturally and very comfortable being so. Toss in a long-held yearning for a certain man and a paranormal being who has a lot of sexytimes experience, well, you get some hot, heavy breathing. OK, a bit more than that.

The tale is a lot of fun but it wraps up really quickly. Boom, bam, thank you wham! Dayna learns a few really important things about herself, and about Bulwark. I hope we get another story about her that lets her explore this new, better informed self. 4/5 stars.

The Narration: Cathy McGowan has the perfect voice for Dayna Dalton. I like the way she gave voice to Dayna’s emotions like that deep yearning for an unrequited love, the complicated relation with her mom, and even her lust during sexytimes. There were a few other characters and each had a unique voice, tho the male character voices could use a tough more masculinity. The pacing was good & there were no technical issues. I heard only a single mispronounced word (lithe). 4.5/5 stars.

I received a free copy of this book & my opinions are 100% my own.

#TheDevilandDaynaDalton

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The Devil and Dayna Dalton, is a fast-paced , enjoyable novella that’s creative with supernatural elements.

This dark sometimes eerie tale, that starts off running and holds your attention all the way through until the satisfying end.
The author Brit Linden delivers once again a wonderful immersive experience of a novella. Captivating descriptive writing, with paranormal magical realism makes this a stunning book.
Dayna Dalton, is a bold realistic character, with flaws that are relatable.
Small towns can be quaint, but they are also unforgiving. Her mother’s notoriety cast a long suffocating shadow on her reputation. Being Becky Dalton's white- trash daughter. That alone is incriminating for the town of Bulwark residence.
Having a long standing crush on the towns Sheriff Clay Finnes, that goes back years, doesn’t help either. Especially now Clay married, she is No home Wrecker!
Through a series of bad experiences and relationships, that she knows aren’t right, she is still a dedicated reporter for the towns paper.
In a series of events and a intriguing rescue, in the woods, that leaves her questioning some heavy decisions.
This by far is my favorite in this Anthology by Brit Linden. Raw and incredible writing, a story within a story will leave guessing at ending.
And what a stellar ending it was, perfect! This goes to show you how talented,
Brit Linden is as an author.

Dayna Dalton is the daughter of Becky Dalton a woman with a certain reptuation, but Danya is trying her damndest to not be tarred with the same brush as her mother, yet she is slighty no better when she wakes up next to a guy in her bed that she should not have ended up going home with!

She has had a crush on the sherrif for a loooong time and she finds that no other guy in town can stasify her, yet the sherrif just wants to be friends. Dayna is her own worst enemy in trying to be better than her reputaions preseeds her, and this is the story of how she makes the choices she does and where she eventually ends up

This marked as book 9 in the anthology yet it easily a stand alone, each story is set in Bulwark and each book connected soloely by character names alone. Each book is a different story that focuss on a main character and you meet others that have been mentiuoned in previous books but are central to the current book if that makes sense. Teh only thing I think is that this was short and it would have been far better as a full novel to pad out her resonsings a bit more.

I really enjoyed these three audio books written by Brit Lunden and I am curious to read the others in the series.

Once again this audio was well prodced, crisp and clear with no backgroud noise or long pauses of silence.

Dayna tried all her life to prove she wasn't like her mother. She wasn't wild and undependable. She was a good reporter and a responsible person. Her one "fault" was her love for Clay. He was married and never led her on. In this town, strange things happened. Dayna was going to find out why.
If you are looking for an original book, this is it. Ms. Lunden's writing is great! She made sure to keep the reader off balance while defining the characters with style. You'll be glad you got this book. I love that the odd things happen to a select few. It's not something everyone experiences. She doesn't give a reason for why this happens. You never know quite when it will happen.

I didn't find any issues.

I gave this one 4 cheers out of 5 because the pacing needed to be a bit faster. copy of book provided by author and I voluntarily reviewed it.

This is the second book in the Bulwark anthology I have read; yep, I read the first and the last! I consider the writing to be top-notch and the stories fascinating. Lunden likes to add a little paranormal to her stories about very ordinary people. Adding a little bit of evil challenges the reader to go to unknown places in the midst of ordinary life. Bulwark, Georgia definitely has an atmosphere perfect for the paranormal, and the people that live there seem to accept it as perfectly normal. Although this is a romance story as well, the reader can’t help but ask how much is love worth? I suspect that there are several different answers to that question. If you enjoy a little bit of the extreme, this is a great read. I would call it a cozy paranormal read.

This book was short, but thrilling. I read it in approximately three hours (reading almost straight through), and I really don’t think I could have put it down had I wanted to. My only complaint was that the story was a little too fast paced for my personal tastes in a few sections. It was fabulously written, otherwise. In fact, I’ve added the entire Bulwark Anthology to my TBR list because I’m now hooked. Although this is the ninth book, it can easily be read as a standalone, which is how I read it. LOVED the twists in the story – always love it when an author can keep me guessing!
