Scary Faerie Tales #2

Hearts in the Looking Glass

Rate this book
After Peter Pan and Tinker Bell are forced to leave the Lost Island called Neverland, the Green Fairy is separated from her only friend and sent to the realm known as Wonderland. No longer a soul thief, she is given the charge of collecting the madness of mortals. Luckily for her, this punishment would prove to be a rather vengeful opportunity. For it was madness that would bring her to the very person she felt was responsible for everything she had lost- Wendy Darling. Though Pan had twisted the reality of what truly had happened in Neverland, it seemed that Wendy’s mind couldn’t escape the nightmares hidden in the deepest corners of her mind. With both of her brothers denying the adventure beyond the second star, her parents eventually decided that sending her away would be best for the family. Wendy is sent to an asylum; the best that money can buy. But even with special privileges like visits to the surrounding gardens and time with the little kitten her mother had given her, the loss of one’s sanity proved to be too much for her. Once Tinker Bell discovers her enemy’s whereabouts, she sends the guardian of Wonderland to lure her down the rabbit hole. But no sooner had the curious child followed the White Rabbit into the veil, did Captain Hook discover what happened. It was then that the Blue Fairy and Hook concoct a plan for him to enter the realm of madness to save Wendy Darling before she loses her sanity completely and is doomed to remain in Wonderland forever.

I finished Blood in the water recently and couldn't wait to read the next book in the series. This author hasn't disappointed me yet! I am reading this one with my daughter! We are both really enjoying it.

I loved this book. It was a wonderful read! Its not the first alice in wonderland retelling I have read, but it is definitely my favorite. I wasn't thrilled that it was book two in the series, but when I got the first book- I was happy to find that it was totally worth it! I love villains and this author has quite the flair! More please!

And here I am—11:23 PM—cracking open the third and final installment because I cannot stop.

Hearts in the Looking Glass somehow topped Blood in the Water. Honestly? It’s better than the original Alice in Wonderland. Bolder, sharper, and way more deliciously chaotic. There’s so much tea in this book—mostly verbal, hardly herbal—and I was sipping every drop like my life depended on it. It's a thirst trap in book form, and I was all in.

This world Kersh has built? Unhinged in the best way. I’m hooked on the danger, the drama, the magic, and all the twists on classic tales I thought I knew. And now, with the final book in my hands, I already know sleep is canceled.

Let’s see how deep this rabbit hole really goes...

Disappointed

Just like it's predecessor, this was a long and sleepy book with TOO MANY GRAMMATICAL ERRORS. The story was interesting but I didn't like the direction she went with Wendy and I am very disappointed in the ending she gave her. Also, at the end of the last book, Ainsel had a vision of the daughter she had with Hook and I kept waiting for this book to touch on that, spoiler: it didn't. Peter Pan is basically absent from the book until the last chapter and then the book ends so abruptly. I give it a "Meh."
