As I watch the single daddy with his baby... I decide I don't care about the dark rumors of his past. And when this small mountain town reveals it's own hairy secrets... I wonder if Kellen will be the one to save it from destitution.
People say he's rude and barbaric. But I see a tortured man, broken and compassionate. He's hurting - and I'm all too familiar with that feeling.
I know there's much more to him than meets the eye. But can I ever melt the ice around his broken heart?

After reading the book description, I was more than happy to read this book.
DNF. I made it to the third chapter before I gave up. For me, the book needs to be edited. It didn’t flow well for me and it kept repeating the same thing, just in a different way about the main male character. I wanted to connect with the characters just a little before I continued reading and I felt as if I didn’t get that. Also, in the Prologue it even had a typo where they were making out.
Again, I was hoping to enjoy this book and the rest in the series, but decided it was best to not continue.
Wow searching for something to read and I can across this series. I read book 2 before book 1. Didn't realize it was a series. Was easy to follow the characters, but I would suggest you read it in order. 😉😉. The is Kellen and Leah's story. Kellen moved to Liberty to get away from all the pain and hurt he caused, Leah had lived in Liberty all her life and her first time meeting Kellen had her seeing RED. This book had shady business men, vandalism, stalking, arson, kidnapping, this is a love story with a little bit of a twist. Kellen is a total bad a$$ when it comes to the people he love. Total sexy Alpha. Sex scenes between him and Leah. Wow!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 oh and there is a HEA.
I liked the characters, but I thought that their relationships were all instant.
Kellen and Leah meet when he’s rushing to get to the airport to be there for his friend who’s gone into labour. Their encounter leaves a bad impression and Leah’s against him, even though she’s very attracted to him, of course. Kellen comes back with the baby, there are some problems in town as well as Leah having her own problems.
I don’t think that the description fits the book at all – the way the characters are described didn’t feel like they were the characters from this book and the plot was completely different. The “dark rumors” were one old lady saying something about Kellen once and no one really paid attention to it. I didn’t understand what the town’s hairy secrets were since . The bit that talks about people’s impression of Kellen and then Leah’s was inaccurate because the most people could say about him was that he was a recluse and Leah didn’t have deep thoughts about him since she mostly focused on trying to dislike him and ignore her attraction to him.
I liked the characters in this book and while there could have been more side characters, I still got the sense that this was a small town.
I didn’t like how quickly Leah and Kellen seemed to fall in love, and Leah’s relationship with Matilda was too quick for me too.
While I liked the other characters in this book, after reading Leah and Kellen’s story, I feel like there’s not going to be much more development in their books. I might still try other books by this author in the future, but I don’t have high hopes for them.
Sometimes you just need something sweet <3 normally i'm not to sweet books, BUT i loved thes one. I loved her sassiness and he's protective, alfah side. It's a book you can cuddle up and sink ind to, right to the ende <3 Loved it and it not my last Mountain man ;-)
I enjoyed the Drs series so I figured I'd try this one but this was not good. Story made no sense in some areas. Like why she'd need to save a trained firefighter from a fire. 🤨. Then he finds her brother, a Navy SEAL, but doesn't tell him she's been kidnapped. Because he wouldn't be any help right? 😏 The arsonist was a big part of story but at the end was more of an after thought. Just No.
I was looking for something light to read. But even when you want something light you would like it to still be a good story. I think it could have been but it felt “off” like it didn’t flow properly. Not sure what else to say. I’m tempted to read the second book to see if the series gets any better.
I absolutely love this book it goes to that love can overcome any obstacles in the way even if that obsical is family members or even your self. The characters were very well thought out and the plot was easy to fallow.
A really sweet and heartwarming story. I loved Leah she was a 5'3" firecracker ready to fight for her family of Liberty, Utah. Kellen was just so sweet to take on a newborn that he was left in charge of and I could just picture him carrying Matilda around in her carrier on his chest
I didn't read more than the first few sentences to realize I would not be reading this book! Starts out with a sex scene and foul language... I'd rather read a book by a author that doesn't have to use sex to write a good interesting book!
Not the strongest writing but a surprisingly enjoyable story. I’m sure Grant and Piper will have a book of their own someday and I may just have to check it out.
Wracked with survivor’s guilt after losing his best friend on the job, ex-Firefighter/EMT, Kellen Mayberry, relocated to tiny Liberty, Utah and became a hermit. Keeping a promise, Kellen rushes home to his dead friend’s wife as she births a daughter and dies hours later. As guardian and all the baby has, Kellen brings her back to Utah.
Leah Barnes dreams of turning her family owned hotel into a resort destination but it’s falling apart thankfully her brother Grant is handy. Attracted to each other Kellen and Leah can’t stop arguing whenever they’re together and if the town gossips are right, Kellan’s a murderer.
Minding his guardian duties, Kellen steps out of his comfort zone to squelch the rumors, be part of the community by attending a masked charity event. Kellen feels guilty that the woman starring in his fantasies and dreams is the sister of his only friend and co-worker but can’t resist kissing Leah and Leah would love to meet those masked lips again.
Adding to Kellan’s growing list of worries about parenting and Leah, someone’s stirring serious trouble in town and a lot of it seems to be aimed at him! Meanwhile, a developer hits town determined to buy the businesses unsettling the community and making Leah’s dreams of improving her hotel difficult.
While the story and characters hold together well enough a bit of editing especially for flow wouldn’t be out of order. Rating: 3.5stars
This is the first book I have read by K.C. Crowne. I really enjoyed the storyline and that characters are great. I don't like a lot of the f-bomb or dirty talking and there is some of that, but not too much. You can get past that pretty easily.
Kellen has gone to help his best friend's widow when she goes into labor. To his surprise he ends up as the guardian of a newborn baby girl. Leah was not impressed when she first met Kellen since he acted like a jerk. Then she started to know him. This storyline is more character oriented, but still has a bit of action in it! The pace is fast and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful. The characters are vibrant and endearing. The bad guys can be figured out pretty easily, but there are some twists and turns that keep you going until the end! All in all this was a fun read and I will be going on to read book 2, as I want to see good things happen to the whole cast of characters that I met. If you like stories with a whole town full of vibrant characters and some mystery added in without a ton of violence, then try this! Enjoy!
I started reading and couln't stop. This is the first time I have read this author and I am hooked. I love stories about big strong gorgeous men and kids. This book starts out with such sadness, but it is to set the backdrop for the story as to how Kellen came to be the guardian of Matilda. Kellen's first meeting with Leah is nothing to brag about, but it sure gives an insight into Leah's personality. She is amazing, fiesty, and the perfect match for Kellen and Matilda. Almost from the very beginning of the book there seems to be trouble around every corner. Danger is everywhere. Not only for them but for their town. Loved the characters and the story. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Kinda boring if I’m being honest with myself, the romance wasn’t very interesting and I didn’t feel that there was any sort of connection between these characters.
Kellen moves to a small town where shortly after he finds himself the guardian of his dead friends’ daughter. He slowly opens himself up to the locals in this town and along the way he falls in love with Leah.
There’s some trouble brewing in this town where big developers are trying to buy the locals’ properties due to rare minerals in the soil. When denied, these developers start sabotaging the properties through arson. There’s also a businessman guy who’s obsessed with Leah and kidnaps her near the end .. for some reason.
The epilogue was pretty cute. Super short read

This is one of my first KC Crowne reads and I loved every minute of it. I like that the book had enought steamy that it balanced with the actually plot/story. Neither overpowered or drowned out the other. They were equal partners that worked together to bring the story to life. Kellen and Leah are an amazing pair. Kellen has suffered some major traumas in his life, especially over the last year. Leah entered his life right when he needed her the most. Matilda was a little cutey. She may not have had any lines or anything, but she certainly made an impression. The supporting characters were all lovable, well...the good one at least, and I look forward to reading their stories in the future. Well done to the author!
Baby for the Mountain Man KU 236 pgs **.* 10/9/20 Kellen & Leah
2.5 stars. The story was cute but so rushed and on the short side. It was hard to get into the characters and story because it was so rushed and there were a lot of filler pages that I skimmed over. The sex was okay, the chemistry was nonexistent. Character building could have been better. The story didn’t flow well, it was choppy and just was a little hard to read. I think a good editing would help maybe. I felt like I got about 100 pages of story out of it. There was no depth to this story, not really sure what the plot was either.
Cute and simplistic small town romance. A dash of insta-love and a splash of drama always helps make for an interesting read.
Leah and Kellan are so adorable! Matilda was my favorite character though. Babies that grasp fingers and coo at you just melt the heart.
The plot isn’t overly imaginative and the writing is just okay, but it’s a cute story that introduces the town and characters that will be in the rest of the series. The steamy parts are very predictable and I honestly skimmed them because I wanted to laugh more than anything as I read. 🙈
I’m still going to read the series because man I wanna know what happens with some of the other people in this town!
*Trigger warnings at the end. 3.75 ⭐ This was a story that hurt you too make you happy. So many different troupes. At the start this book broke my heart. I wanted to scream and cry and throw my tablet. Kellen is the new guy in town, a loner that just wants to live a quiet life. Leah is healing from being cheated on by her now ex-husband. The meet cute is hilarious. There was so much going on in this book that you could easily get distracted. I lowered my rating partly because of the ending. The conclusion was a little rushed and didn't cover everything well.
Triggers:
lose of a loved one PTSD Towards the end a bit towards rape
Sweet story that starts out heartbreaking. Kellen rushes back to help his dead friends wife who is in labor but has no family except Kellen. Things go horribly wrong after the birth and now he is guardian to a newborn baby girl.
Leahs first encounter with Kellen wasn't a great start but she soon learned that her first impression was completely wrong.
There are some suspicious things that go on with a business man who has made visits to Leah's hotel for years who is now acting crazy and a developer who is causing major problems in the small town of Liberty.
I so fell in love with Kellen. What is sexier than a big strong man with a tiny baby. It was so sad how Kellen ended up with Tilly. But she saved him as much as he saved her. Leah was a strong independent woman who needed a strong sexy as hell man. Leah just thought Kellen was a arrogant a$$whole who drove a big truck. Kellen soon realises how much Leah means to him and how good she is with Tilly. I like how the secondary characters are sprinkled in each couples story in this town. Great storyline with plenty of steamy sex.
Meh. So much missed potential. It was all over the place and rushed, and for a plot that should of been emotional I felt next to nothing. Leah and Kellan were sweet characters but lacked any development.
POV: Dual, 1st person. SERIES or STANDALONE: 1st in series, can be read as a standalone. TROPES: M/F adult, small town, single dad, brothers best friend romance. SIZE: 231 (last page) Kindle pages.
Kellan finds himself in the family way by guardianship of is best friends baby. In the midst of grieving he has to take care baby Matilda as well. When he gets back to town they all come to his aide in helping. Leah has her own problems and in the beginning she thought that Kellan was a big jerk. they both have drama and somehow they fit. But Leah has a stalker that is causing problems not only for her but another woman as well. Will Kellan and the other men be able to keep her safe.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It was a great story with some good drama. The part with the developers didn't have an ending, you're left hanging not knowing what happened. There were mistakes; such as in the beginning Leah states that Caroline was her babysitter, yet she was five years Leah's junior, and Leah didn't have a child, parenting classes were supposed to be in the evening and then it stated in the morning. Other errors as well.
This has action from beginning to end of story. Thank you for honoring the workers who help protect us everyday, I loved this. Kellan and Leah together made a great couple. Cried for Matilda, but the story came together greatly with the love for her. Leah fought for a great cause. This town came together as one to save it. Loved this whole storyline. Highly recommended more for the mature audiences.
I really liked these characters. There wasn't one I didn't care for, even among the women...and that's rare for me. (Leah did have a Super B!tch moment, but I suppose I can forgive her for that.)
The bad guys were obvious and the way things played out were rather predictable. (I figured out who was responsible for what very early on.)
There were some typos and timeline inconsistencies, but it was still a pretty good read.
Great book. I loved all the characters in it, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Only took off a star because there was an error that drove me nuts. In the beginning it said that Grant was a former Army Ranger; however, later in the book it said he was a Seal. I read the summary of Grant's book, and it said he was a Marine. Three different branches of the military, and since I'm from a military family it really irritated me.
He became a recluse after the death of his best friend. The wife was pregnant. Won't tell you how he became a father. But the change in him becomes more lasting when she starts helping him. There is several different dramas going on in this book. Bad guys abound. When he figured out that she was the one he must save her. Can these two people have a happy ending including his daughter?
I have read two other books in the series before this one. I loved reading Leah and Kellen's story just as much as the other stories. I find KC Krowne's stories have not only the romance but a little mystery or adventure in them that makes them entertaining. I look forward to reading what she writes next.
