Best Wishes #3

Smoke and Mistletoe

What do you do when your life finally calms? Celebrate... Over the last few months, life at Redwood Supernatural University has been busy, overwhelming, and sometimes downright terrifying, but it’s finally winter break. With two and a half weeks of downtime, I'll get the time I've desperately wanted to just hang out with friends, family, and my boyfriends. After everything we've been through this semester, don't we deserve a little time to relax? When the guys come to my hometown, I'm surrounded by gifts, love, and all the embarrassing mother/boyfriend bonding that I never knew I needed. And, if I'm being honest, the hot chocolate isn't the only thing getting steamy. But my mom doesn't need to know about that part. Unfortunately, winter break isn’t all mistletoe, magic, and mini marshmallows. As if being kidnapped by my crazy ex-boyfriend and getting stuck as genie-smoke wasn’t bad enough, now I’m finding out that there’s a lot more to my supe identity than I’d ever imagined. At least I have my six guys to help me navigate the craziness that is being home for the holidays. I got this...I think.Book 3 of the Best Wishes Series is a holiday novella but is essential to the storyline and must be read between book 2 (Smoke and Survival) and book 4 (Smoke and Betrayal). The Best Wishes Series is a seven-book WhyChoose/Reverse Harem saga featuring MMFMMMM meaning there is M/M content, and the female main character doesn't have to choose between her love interests. Please while the romance is medium burn, the world and magic building will follow a slower pace due to the series’ setting in the human world. This book contains references involving PTSD, sexual assault recollections, domestic violence, and other themes that some readers may find triggering.

It's really bad.
I don't mind a simple plot or no plot at all if the book is well written but here it's not the case.
The writing is juvenile, the dialogues are wonky and not natural. The plot is nowhere to be seen and the supernatural aspect is barely there. It feels like the author added details and sub-plots as she wrote and it shows.
I 100% believe the characters are supes to justify the RH, which is a choice because a lot of RH are written in the real world.

It's a shame because I love supernatural academies but here it's a waste.
The heroine goes from suffering from PSTD because if domestic violence to trust 6 boys, giving them nicknames and being intimate with them in days. It makes no sense. Her being a rare supe has no explanation for now, it doesn't affect her life at all, she doesn't care (she was raised as a human but she's barely interested in her powers).
Her connection to the 6 boys is forced. Same goes for the Dean (it was obvious as a nose in the middle of the face who he was but she's really dumb).
The mean girls disappear at the end of book 1 and them being girlfriends to the 2 of the boys should have encouraged Luci to drop them because who date vile girls if not assholes?

You tell me that a boy she meets for 2 seconds recognises her necklace (and possibly her powers) but the old librarian/witch she has worked with for days doesn't? Please, make it make sense.
Don't even get me started on Noah. How come a powerful academy filled with supes cannot catch a 19 years old asshole?

What a festive little adventure! The Best Wishes series is fun to begin with, but adding in the holiday segment was a straight delight. A.J. Macey writes books that I love to read and this one is no different. What you THINK is a book of just, information and fun, of course isn't anything like that. She throws some twists at you, a teeny bit of drama, and JUST ENOUGH to make you crave the next book and borderline lose your mind. I really enjoyed this one, just as I have the other two, and I can't wait to see where Macey throws at Lucie and her guys next.

great series would be even better if it were finished

Even though this is a great series I’m disappointed that the last book was published in 2019 and we readers are left hanging.

Ha! Called it 😊

A great read, but very different from the turmoil of the last, but very intense book. Lucie is now trying to get her life, and magic, back on track. Her boyfriends are doing their best to help and support her, but there have been little threads popping up that hint that this was not over. By the time I got to the final sentence, I was itching to continue on, but alas, the fourth book isn’t put yet 😔

On a positive note, the guys are getting their collective sh!t together, and Lucie has been doing the rounds over the holidays meeting the guys families. Alex and Jonathan were a little more elusive, but I was sure that my hunch was right (about Alex that is), and sure enough, I called it. Now I’m completely invested to see how that subplot plays out.

4 stars ⭐️

PS, will the next FSID book come out first, or the next book in this series?

I’ve really enjoyed the series so far, and I am a fan of multi POV if written well! The characters are great, the world and plot building has been good across the series so far.
It’s great being able to get to know all the characters well, and that they all grow across the series and develop more.
I think that some of the physical (steamy!) scenes between them start to build up and then seem a little rushed for the act itself. A lot of the plot focuses around the chemistry of the characters, and discovering themselves so i would have liked to see a little more input for these scenes.
Definitely looking forward to next in the series!

So good

This book didn’t have the same intensity to it as the previous ones. But it was more about everyone’s families.

3.5* .....
this book I believe was like the quiet before the storm! Very happy chilled book. Not much happening at all.
At the end there is a little shock but that’s about it. I’m
In 2 minds about this read, hence the 3.5*

This is a quick novella but you do need to read it before you read the next full length in this series. This is a setup story that crosses into being a holiday book. While this is not as action-packed as the full-length books you do get a lot of sweet moments and learn a really important tidbit about Lucy's life. This was a short and cozy book that was a great way to spend the night before Christmas Eve.

Straight

This is straight forward. There are some things that have twists to the story, but they're feeling out their relationships between each other. Not much else happens in the book.

This 3rd installment is full of twists and turns. Lucie is quickly coming into her powers and the guys are realizing how momentous this is. I love that this book kind of revolves around Christmas. It brings a little lightheartedness to a very tense situation. You can feel the love between Lucie and her guys and we see the first signs of prejudice when it comes to humans interacting with Supes. This book leaves me with quite a few questions I'm hoping get answered in the next book and a surprise at the end, I think will make everyone squeal. I can't wait to see how the story continues.

A sexy Novella and part of the Best Wishes series of books. Lucie (FMC) is still recuperating from the last book and with recurring nightmares still plaguing her. Her guys - Landon, Dante, Logan, Hudson, Nik, Cam, her friend Char and her mum they rally around her to make her Christmas a good one. A short, sweet book that is needed after the darkness of book 2 in the Best Wishes series and this book is no different from the others. Its a damn fine read

Way too much fluff, and I'm someone who likes fluff added in with spice. The series sounded intriguing and I felt let down. I honestly found myself skipping through pages and not missing much by doing so. Not to mention book 4 is only on Vella years after book 3. I thought I'd want to keep going just to find out how things end but I think I'm good to move on.

Unnecessary book

This was just a bunch of fluff, and we could have totally done without it. I am very disappointed in this author because I know she can write good books. And the next ones not out yet, and it's three years past the date it was supposed to be released by.

page turner

I really enjoyed the page turning story line, with slight twists and turns. Not as much as a roller coaster of emotions and feelings story as book 2. This book more goes through the extension of their building friendships and relationships. Being Christmas time, a time for healing and rest. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of the series and the journey the group are proceeding towards in finding who Lucie’s parents are and finding out who’s been helping Noah. I can guess who is helping Noah so hopefully the next instalment will lead to some clues and closure for the family members.

Book one with very good. Book 2 got on my nerves it was pretty redundant started cussing but book 3 made up for it. I can't wait for it to come out in the summer 2020. My best part of the breeding the book is hearing from different perspectives from each characters. I love all the characters. Thank you. I wish the book was coming out sooner book 3.

Just finished book 3. I can't wait for the next book to come out. Thank you. I love all the characters hearing from different point of perspectives from each character point of view. Thank you.

Nice break

This is probably more of a Christmas novella. The gang gets time to actually heal and spend the holidays together. We get some laughs and meet the families. Lucie is healing and practicing her powers. At the end we are left with what will be the focus of the next book.... I'm curious who Noah is working with. Also I totally called it in book one who Alex was. I just don't know why he hasn't told her. Also love who Jonathan turned out to be! Multiple POVs. MM content. Sweet and fun.

Best wishes, Boo

I choose this rating because the story is gripping. The characters are interesting and their interactions flow naturally. The books have a lot less sex than than most slow burn RH, but the storyline more than compensates. If you read RH for the sec only this probably isnt the series for you. But if you read them experience new worlds and relationship dynamics with sex for added spice.... well this us first you. This is the 2nd time I've read the series and I'm posting that book 4
Isnt due for release for 11 months.

I CANNO'T WAIT for the next one.

I've been calling it for two books now that Alex is her dad, I'm so ready for this.

Also I stg if we don't get a Dante-Lucie-Cam situation I will scream. (Also throw Nik in there for good measure ;) )

And pleeeeeease for the love of all that is good make the strange kitty she has been dreaming about and seeing, her familiar!! Just imagine it and Grigori smooching together. Yes.

Enjoyable but short

I have enjoyed reading all 3 of the books so far in this series. The characters are nicely written and the story is engaging. I just find some of the conversation, especially between the guys, quite stilted.
They could also be a lot longer and more detailed than they are. Some topics seemed to get glossed over far too quickly for me.

Amazing !!!!

I choose five stars because I thought the story was well written. Even though it was shorter then the previous books it still grips you be makes you want to read more. I love all the different characters and how well their stories blend in together.
This story ends on a cliffhanger and I can not wait for the next one.

Very simply written - to the point where all "plot twists" are seen from book 1 & things constantly are unmentioned when they should be. But somehow, I was incredibly invested in this series - I'm attributing it to the perfectly steamy and platonic MM that is ramping up within the harem! I cannot wait to see where that leads! 😍

Do you have any completed series? I read a lot. I mean a lot, so when I start a series I like to know how many books are in said series. I read the complete series one after the other. I dislike waiting for the next book especially if it is ended in questions.

Lovey little in between book tying up the first semester and moving us into the new year. Really get a ton of time with each of the boys and the people that mean the most to Lucie.

Brilliant

Smoke and Mistletoe by A J Macey. This book deals with the period over the Christmas and New Year. Luke's house fills up with her boys and at New Year her other friends are added as well. Surely with Noah in prison things will calm down, won't they?

Holy cow, book 3 was fantastic. Just when poor, Lucy thinks things are going to get better. She is once again blasted with bad news. I fell in love with all the guys in this book. It was amazing to get to know each one individually. Can't wait to see what happens next.
