A man so despised, everyone who met him wanted to kick him downstairs. Or worse.
News of Bernard's death brings cheers throughout the Dordogne. A dysfunctional family, feuding neighbors, disgruntled business Molly and Ben are up to their eyeballs with potential perpetrators. With a wedding to plan, Molly's up against a tight deadline, yet the list of suspects keeps getting longer. And then there's the shadowy figure stalking her through the streets of Castillac...
She has worked as a radio reporter, SAT tutor, short-order omelet chef, and baker. She tried waitressing but was fired twice.
Nell grew up in Richmond, Virginia and has lived in New England, New York City, and France. Currently she's back in Virginia with teenagers and far too many pets. She has degrees from Dartmouth College and Columbia University.
Quick fun read even if many things are unbelievable. I like the village and characters. The murder plot, less so. I also am puzzled by the Vallette story line.
NO HONOR AMONG THIEVES is Book #9 in Nell Goddin’s Molly Sutton mystery series. Ben’s former client, Bernard Petit is murdered at his home in Bergerac. He is a despised man everywhere and people are quite happy about his death. Ben and Molly are determined to solve the mystery. All Molly seems to do is embarrass herself in her dealings with the Valette children (a side story - a story that shows Molly as very cruel and insensitive) and her enabling and (again) insensitivity towards bad boy Malcolm and his family. There are so many loose ends and snarled, obtuse, frustrating story lines that the book is really difficult to read. A very frustrating read.
I read all previous books in this series and though I like the setting and characters I get frustrated with how the author cuts away every time there is anything interesting happening. There’s an avoidance of any emotional dialogue. Molly decides to tell Ben about the robot calls that accuse him of cheating and we cut to the next morning. What was said to mend the relationship? Why is she fleeing from a stalker one minute and then acts like nothing happened? Wouldn’t you tell your fiancé if a man grabbed you in the street and threatened you? The last confrontation with the killer is just ridiculous. Who lets their wife off on a snow covered road on your way back from the wedding ceremony to be live bait? Their relationship is improbable and lacking in any depth. We know more details about what they eat than why they love each other. Just my two cents. Thanks for letting me vent.

Molly Sutton and Ben Dufort are finally going to get married, but before they can get their plans finalized, they are hired to investigate the death/murder of a man no one liked. Instead of searching for persons with likely motives for murder, it seems that everyone they talk to about the victim hated him. He had been a bully and an obnoxious liar/cheat all of his life. So, the problem became who would benefit by is death and did that person have the opportunity to do him in.
I enjoy the Molly Sutton series because the characters in the French town of Castillac feel like friends that one is stopping by to visit. The plots in the series are also generally intriguing.
Another wonderful visit with Molly and the residents of Castillac! The mystery was very good and the characters were great! I love the residents of Castillac. They are so funny! This time their case was in Bergerac, a town about 30 mins. away. Guess they had to branch out or the townspeople would really start being wary of Molly! LOL! This series just keeps getting better. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
It is freezing cold all over Castillac, but that doesn't stop Molly Sutton from digging into this latest murder investigation in the middle of her wedding planning. This book has all the regular characters from town as well as the introduction of a gluttonous gourmand-the police chief from Bergerac. Love the characters and the mystery, my favorite yet. I received an ARC and voluntarily gave this review.
I have enjoyed this series thus far as audiobooks. The author chose to narrate this one herself, and it was not a good choice. Monotoned, strange breaks, no voice differentiation between characters, and please edit out those loud swallows. She is a reliable writer for the cozy mystery series. I will not continue since I can't follow the audio any longer. I got 20% through, stopped, and won't go further with the series.
Another crazy mystery involving Molly Sutton. As always, the locale and the local characters give this series its charm. I'm still sussing how I feel about Molly. She seems both charming and annoying at the same time. In any case, it's a quick, light, fun read if you ignore some head-shaking moments.
I really enjoy this series as gentle reads (even though there's murder) and vicarious indulgence in French food, but I found this one had stray plot details that felt like they were dropped. There were some continuity issues too. Overall, though, an enjoyable story with a satisfactory resolution of the main plot.
Loved the French Village community. Molly Sutton and her fiancé seem to be a great team for solving local crimes. But they’re on a deadline—their wedding is quickly approaching and they’d love to wrap things up and just celebrate. I think I’d like to try more of these books—just for the plucky heroine who transplanted herself to France and the wonderful descriptions of the food!
I have loved the past books, but somehow this one didn't grab me. There were too many things going on, some did not get resolved. When I got to the last 20 or so pages of the book and I was wondering how this was all going to wrap up! Too hurried and unsatisfactory at the end. I have the next book to read, as well as the 1st one of this series. I hope these don't disappoint.
I love this character. She’s smart, sassy and loves almond croissants. A perfect mixture. There’s enough suspense to keep the reader interested as well as an eclectic mix of characters. Keep it up Nell.
I enjoy these cozy mysteries in part a)because I would love to live in France, b)enjoy the characters c) enjoy the food. Great books for entertaining and not thinking. My ‘tv’ of the reading world.
Loved it! Could not put it down. Started it yesterday, finished this morning. Nell Goddin just gets better and better and better! Love the Molly Sutton series.
Oh my goodness, I couldn't wait to write a review because I really really was frustrated with this particular book. I feel it been entering this series but this one drove me crazy. There were lots of times when the author chose to just leave us hanging. Not concluding an angle or a thought or the idea of a event happening. The next thing we see is that the event the discussion the idea had already been solved and we weren't privy to listen to it! So frustrating! And the so so many characters in this book... I think was too much. An entire unsolved murder ignored for the second half of the book for heaven's sake while they pursued a different murder!!! I just hope that the author had in mind that she would clear up some of this for us in the next book in the series. I really have loved the series, but this one was so incredibly frustrating.

I was so happy to read No Honor Among Thieves: Molly Sutton Book 9. I have read the entire series and am afraid that I’ve become addicted to the village of Castillac. I love the French setting and the quirky Castillac characters. Molly and Ben had many suspects for the murder of a very nasty man who was liked by no one. They conducted the investigation while planning for their upcoming wedding. Yes, there were thieves, too. No Honor Among Thieves did not disappoint!
