Meadowfall Firefighters #1

Burning for My Prince

Rate this book
What happens when your baby's daddy crashes through your bathroom ceiling... and into your life?

A long time ago, York Davis made an online friend, and fell in love with him. Unbeknownst to York, FrogPrince100 was also a college professor. When they met to sate Prince's heat, Prince conceived. The very next day, Prince disappeared from York's life, shattering his heart.

Five years ago, Perry Larkin did something he shouldn't: he gave in to his desires and slept with his crush. The very first alpha to make him feel safe after much violent abuse from his exes. Thing was, York was sixteen years younger than Perry. To hide his identity, Perry wore a mask to their first and only meeting. Then, crippled by guilt, he left, taking their unborn child with him.

Fast forward to today: York is a firefighter who has sworn off love. Except his nervous new neighbor, Perry Larkin? He smells familiar. Perry feels familiar. York has no clue what FrogPrince looked like, but Perry can't be him. York shouldn't want to see Perry smile again. His heart shouldn't skip so much around Perry.

Besides, Perry has a four-year-old son who can't be York's, because Prince had been on birth control that night... right?

Burning For My Prince is a 89,000-word standalone non-shifter MPreg novel with snake jokes, new uses for honey, and an adorable four-year-old. No cheating, no cliffhangers, but there definitely is a Happily Ever After.

Note: A list of trigger warnings is included in the Look Inside. If those are your triggers, please take care when reading!

A Secret Baby MPreg Romance.

I’m not sure I read the same book as others have because so many others have clearly loved this story.

This book tried so hard to be cute, but I found it to be awkward and, at times, uncomfortable.

I never felt the chemistry between the two MCs. As for York, I felt that Perry/Prince was more of a fetish for him. The IDEA of Prince got him off.

York’s sex talk was corny and Prince was whiney.
And the constant sexual innuendos being said around the child, even though the child didn’t know what exactly was being said, made me uncomfortable. Especially since it happened more than once.

I'm so glad the return to Meadowfall wasn't too long of a wait with this new spin-off series. And it's the perfect couple to start things off - York (who is Micah's son, from the last book in the Meadowfall series) and Perry, a teacher who is 16 years older than him (hello yummy age-gap!). York and Perry met five years ago after becoming friends through shared enjoyment of an online game, and the two spent one hot night together - although York never knew who Perry fully was since Perry kept his face covered.

I really enjoyed the humor in this one - OMG, poor Perry and how he first meets York again! And the jokes about the snake and the manaconda - there were so many things to chuckle over in this story! And Anna Wineheart always does such a great job with the steamy moments, and this one was no exception. Omg can I just say - honeypot! I loved them together, and I loved their story.

Perry has had some horrible experiences with alphas, from his father to his past relationships, and it takes a kind, honest, good alpha in York to bring Perry some peace and a much-deserved HEA. Really enjoyed this and can't wait for more stories from the Meadowfall Firefighters!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Could have been a good story, but…

I got tired of Perry’s self-deprecation and fear. I understand that it comes from a place of trauma, but that was all he was for the entirety of the book.

It wasn’t a bad story, just one that did not hook me.

I like vulnerability in an MC, but Perry was a weakling. I do not like to root for lying, scheming people without a backbone. I did not get any chemistry between the MC's, the whole time York had to deal with the fallout of Perry's lying, and then he was portrayed as unforgiving. Perry's whiney ways was really annoying. Al the sex without real feelings got old, real fast. This is the first book in the series and also my last.

I did like it and at the end I decided I shouldn’t make myself read this, especially if I don’t like it and I’m just gonna complain that I don’t like it. So decided to DNF.

Oh man, it’s been a long time since I’ve read an omegaverse and MPREG novel. I was a little unsure of this in the beginning. Perry was almost TOO insecure for me.

But York was sweet as pie, so I had to stick with it.

tw - abuse (described), abusive past relationships, fights, conceiving child without one's consent
cw - dirty talk, sex scenes, 16-year age-gap, mpreg, a/b/o setting

sometimes sweet, sometimes weird it was a book i surprisingly read in one setting because i was curious to know what would happen next.
although being the older one (16 years older than York), Perry does act like a child. i wouldn't see his behavior as one of someone overcoming past abusive relationships, but really as a lack of maturity which most of the time pissed me off or made me roll my eye to the point of having a headache.

I don't like to review books, everyone has it's own opinion but COME ON really. Did i just read that?
I have read many many books and I don't understand the 5 stars ratings. These people like no offense what would give a one star review... A handwritten phone book? Sorry for my rant back to the point..my problem with this book is that many authors either because they want to make many books or to attract many readers they think what people like i should put that in the book, ok with that but when you have many things many tropes YOU NEED to write it well. Here we have angst, violence, steam , age gap and the list keep going. I was ready to dnf the thing so fu$##ing much....and i hate that.
1. We have York the hero a PROTECTIVE ALPHA which is more of a doormat than an alpha. He's annoying and lame.
2. We have perry ok he used to be abused but he is an manipulative liar and we spent many hours of our lifes reading the same thing over again and again - perry lying
3. Too much sex no plot... I don't mind if my books are steamy i like a steamy book but i like a coherent book...there was lies sex sex sex more sex sex blah blah blah boring sex sex
4. In which universe other than cringeverse we sextalk in front of a toddler i mean come on and people like that?
5. There were other characters supposedly basic but they didn't get a chance to the spotlight so they faded
6. The almost every edging scene from York to Perry made me roll my eyes every single time and at some point i just skipped the scene.
All in all my favourite part of the book was the epilogue because it freaking ended.

This was a good book. I understand where others said the writing was a bit awkward. It was. The conversation at points were weird, and it tried to be cute but fell flat. I don’t know if it’s because York this strong alpha still felt like a young man who thought crudeness was cute, or maybe it’s my age because I found myself rolling my eyes. I don’t know. Some side characters were from passed books but they didn’t confuse you.

Adult forms a parasocial relationship with teenage son of colleague, tricks him into condomless sex by pretending to be on birth control, hides pregnancy, denies paternity rights, gaslights partner again and again. I love f*cked up books but turns out I can't stomach exploitation of minors, especially when the exploiter is absolved of wrong-doing because they were also the victim of abuse and then rewarded with a RELATIONSHIP with their victim.

Wow, what a great beginning for a new series; a spin-off from Men of Meadowfalls. I had wondered what happened to Micah’s son York Davis. He had a lot on his plate with his dad being with two Alphas, then his father marrying them. Now, finally he’s out and on his own.

In the past during college, no one in York’s life, not even his father, knew about the online friend York had been corresponding with; or that his son’s emotions where wrapped up in the frogprince persona online. When York gets his chance to meet the man of his dreams and had captured his heart, frogprince wore a mask. Even when they made love, frogprince refused to remove his mask only bringing it up enough to kiss York.

Just that one night together and York was hooked, only to find out a few days later his prince had vanished into thin air. After so many days and weeks, York had sent out notices in the little group to find his prince; which he learned frogprince was alright by one message through the site.

This set the tone for these two men having a second chance. The only problem was that the “Prince”, Perry Larkin had been abused by many Alphas in his past and didn’t trust any Alpha now. They would be nice when he was first with them than they all turned horribly abusive and Perry carried the scars to prove it. Perry could not get past that York was different. He was always waiting for the other shoe to drop; that this man could not be as great as he presented.

Perry held onto his secrets about himself from York. Perry just knew it was a matter of time before this Alpha would also abuse him; especially when the wonderful Alpha found out Perry’s secrets. It started with Perry not telling York that he was frogprince, but worse, he held back telling York that Perry’s son was also York’s son; huge mistake.

What a complicated mess for Perry. The man was torn between wanting York and then preventing himself to believe that York would be his loving Alpha. Anna Wineheart writing brings you into their lives, feeling Perry’s confusion, his pain, his wanting, and the overwhelming feelings he would be abused again. In my experience, this is so true for the abused person.

The synopsis on the back of the book gave a great overview and there’s no way I want to spoil the emotional journey these two men went through to achieve their HEA. Also, I loved Caleb. He made me laugh and brought warmth, laugher, and connectedness to Perry and York’s story. This is a series you do not want to miss out on. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced read copy of this book.

“Oh.. it’s a book about an omega who meets an alpha gets pregnant runs away then they meet again in an hilarious bathtub scene. It’s almost like BJ Alex just PG”

Blasphemy. Don’t get me wrong I saw the potential in the book. If it was executed well it would’ve been highly engaging and a very enjoyable read indeed. But it failed to meet my expectations. The main issues lies in the uncomfortable and inappropriate content that pervaded the story. The main characters frequently made sexual innuendos around a child, it made me uncomfortable. It’s alarming because it wasn’t a one time issue it happens almost every time the trio was together and made it very hard to overlook. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy a good age gap but in this story, one of the main characters was a minor when they initially knew the other main character and although it was mentioned to be platonic it felt very dishonest and hard to believe. The fact being that Perry (m/c 1) mentioned seeing him (m/c 2) in a sexual way when he had a birthday hat on for his eighteenth birthday. Yeah, this was disturbing and despite trying to dull it down it was unsettling.

The justification for York (m/c 2) accepting Perry seemed weak and the author mentioning his dad being an age gap relationship was a mistake in my opinion. Despite trying to sell the whole “love at first sight” narrative I didn’t find it compelling and felt forced once I knew about this whole father in age gap marriage scenario. Then came the subplot of Perry getting pregnant again by York before revealing the truth about the first child. It felt like York was being milked (literally) due to Perry always lying when he asked if he was sure he wouldn’t get pregnant.

This story would’ve been way better if a followed a different trajectory. For example, an Omega meets an Alpha male online they become platonic friends they meet up and accidentally had a sexual encounter. The Omega gets pregnant and due to past trauma fled with the child and they somehow meet up in the future. The humorous bathtub scene can stay put please remove the sexual innuendos around the child and the heavy mention of one the main characters being a minor. All in all this book had a lot of potential that was wasted due to its problematic and uncomfortable elements. It felt like a traumatized single dad bootleg version of BJ Alex. If this is your cup of raw tea, feel free to read it, but do so at your own risk.

✮ (¸.•´"My heart burns for you." ~York

Welcome back to Meadowfall, this place that Anna Wineheart has perfected and keep bringing us back for more. This time, join the men of the fire house, as this spin off starts with a blast of a reunion, secrets and more laughter than this girl could take. Little Caleb was a hoot and a holla and he was the glue that kept this book entertaining. Trust me, the things that came out of this four year old's mouth...ingenious!

Both Perry, the older omega professor and newly minted firefighter York have made appearances in other books, especially as York was Micah from His Two Alphas son. The fact that York and Perry engaged in a relationship early on and produced a son unbeknownst to York, set the stage for the story.

There was a lot of push and pull, and the heat was off the chart! Anna kept me wanting more and wanting the secrets to be spilled faster and faster. At the end, there is always the Meadowfall equivalent to making up and a pregnancy is always had. Just watching these two learn to get it right was a trial in patience. But like York had said, Perry taught him many things, and Perry had always been the Sun to his Earth.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.

Soooo... I'm a SUCKER for mpreg . 🙋🏾‍♀️🙋🏾‍♀️🙋🏾‍♀️

Few things in life crank my juices like a good mpreg.

Sad thing is, because I love mpreg so much, I tend to ... inhale them where I find them.

Which means there aren't too many GOOD ONES I haven't read.

All this to say: finding a good mpreg is like looking for a needle in a haystack!

description

Could you find other prickly things in said haystack? Possibly...

Would they have the ability to do the job of said needle? Perhaps...

But... why settle, when you know you could have a needle instead of hay-moonlighting-as-a-needle?

I find myself asking this question every time I'm looking for a new mpreg to read... and the only conclusion I can draw is: It's too much work sifting through the fucking haystack!!!!

description

And so, this is where we find ourselves...
beggars cannot be choosers .

Enter in Johnny Bravo York:

description

He's a child...
... and it shows!

Case and point: "You’ll definitely get on her good side with spag, Prince" ... like... whatthefuckisthat?!?!??

Bearing in mind Caleb is 4... “What’s that?” York asked. “Like a castle!” Caleb gestured in the air. “With pointy things!” [York] “You mean a castle-house?” York looked impressed. 😑😑

description

As long as it took him to figure out the glaringly obvious with this... I'm surprised he lasted to adulthood!

description

Then there's our darling omega, Perry:

¡Ah jeez!
What to say about darling Perry...
*
*
*
*
*
*couple hours later and I'm still lost for words.

description

And don't get me started on the HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE conversations around little ears involving "snakes" and "sticks", JEEESUSSSSSSSS!!

These two will OBVIOUSLY NOT be babysitting any offspring of mine!!!

Then the climatic scene happened, and this was me the whole time:

description

Then of course loose ends need tying up neatly with a bow and because we live in York's world...

description

Here's the thing:
As far as omegaverse goes, this book is ok...
...it could be worse,  like... TONS worse!

But when it's bad... LAAWWWWDDDDD IS IT BAD!!!

It started for me with the climatic reveal scene, 76% mark... culminating in ..."I looked up the laws just to be sure. Here's the kicker for me: I just didn't feel like doing that right now.

description

And on that note, I shall end my rant.
2.5 could be better, but could also be a heck of a lot worse ⭐s

P.S.: I feel the need to add that I don't particularly mind the writing in hindsight
... it's more the content I take issue with.
The writing was ok, flowed well, had a few typos here and there that I glazed over, but overall, not bad.

I do feel like the book could have ended in 200-ish pages, if not for the continual beating of the dead horse...
... ... ad nauseum.

I will attempt another in Ms. Wineheart's universe, to see if it was just my not meshing with the characters that were York and Perry.

My god. Who recommended this book to me, because it was *awful*
There aren't any redeeming characters in this book, and I literally got to 30% and was like, jesus. THERE'S MORE? It seemed like everything was tied up and going swimmingly. But nope. Let's fuck up everything because I want to.

So, first of all there's Perry. I literally don't get why he bailed on York the first time, like at all. He knowingly messaged him during his heat, as his other heats in this book have him very self-aware and not losing himself to it, and then just left the next day? I'm so confused on *why* It's mentioned he wants a kid. So, he used his heat and his friendship with someone else to go get it and then disappeared? That's incredibly messed up.
It's mentioned this happens when York is 18 but later, we find out that they've been friends since York was 14 and that there's a 16-year age gap between the two. So, you're telling me that this 20-year-old man became friends with a 14-year-old?! W-what? Excuse me? I get being friends with people in your family or being friendly with your friends' kids and such but befriending a random 14-year-old and then carrying on a 4 year long friendship over a game is fucking weird.
Also, the dude lies for EVERYTHING. Caleb isn't your kid. I slept with other people. I don't love you.
He is literally the root of all his pain.

York is honestly annoying. He backtracks on everything. EVERYTHING. "I love this random dude I met when I was a TEENAGER. I don't love him. He got the D and bounced. I'm obsessed with him. I hate him. I love Perry. No, we hate him. He lied to us. My god I can't resist him."
It got *SO* old. I don't even get why he started requesting visits with Caleb. At all. To be fair, I was skimming because jesus christ these two annoyed me, so if it was included. Eh.
Also, Perry did not lie about being on "bc (which got fucking annoying to see constantly. No one says bc over birth control constantly)" - he literally said, "what do you think?" Before being shoved together, Perry was AVOIDING York like the plague and was staying inside his house. Why would he be on birth control? Also... this dude needs to seriously stop having unprotected sex with York, because what the fuck.

Also, can you stop fucking Perry for TWO SECONDS WHILE YOUR CHILD IS IN THE OTHER ROOM? Absolutely disgusting that you can't stop while your child walks in the kitchen and you're fingering his father. GO TO THE BEDROOM. BATHROOM. ANY ROOM WITH A DOOR AND A LOCK. My GOD.

Caleb was a character who was written by someone who does not have kids and asked the weirdest fucking questions for tHe PlOt. Why would some kid act scared of a snake in someone's pants (their dick) and constantly point it out?! "DAD THERE'S A SNAKE IN HIS PANTS." I could not roll my eyes hard enough. Also, going off the fact that Caleb shouldn't have existed because that'd make this book somewhat tolerable, WHY ARE THEY BEING SO SEXUAL IN FRONT OF A FOUR-YEAR-OLD!? BLEGH. I wish I could bleach this book from my brain.

I absolutely loved York and Perry’s story. I was so hoping that they would get a story together when I read about them in York’s dads story “His Two Alphas” and I’m so excited that they did. There was a lot of funny scenes in this book that I wonder how it got thought up. It took them a long time to finally have their well deserved HEA but they got through it. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Perry had this fear of alphas (with good reason) that caused him to lie to York many times for fear that York would hurt him and York, while he understood the pain Perry endured from other alphas, didn’t understand why Perry kept lying to him even though he assured Perry that he would never hurt him. York holds long grudges as he still holds a grudge against Cole (“The Pretense”) for the accident that happened with his dad. It took York almost losing Perry to realize that he has to forgive and move on, otherwise he’ll lose the love of his life.

~~~ I read this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review ~~~
I have a really hard time when the only thing moving a plot forward is secrets being kept by a main character from their love interest. This was one of those books. I tried to care about the MCs as a couple, but my strongest emotion was frustration that Perry never got support from a mental health professional. I got why he kept doing things that hurt himself and others, but why didn't anyone call out his terrible coping mechanisms?
A bit too long
This was decent. But it was a bit too long. There was so much angst, so much back and forth, that we could have cut about 20% of the book and had a much better, tighter, engaging story. I also think, and I don't often say this, but there were too many sex scenes or too many references to sex. The main point of contention or the conflict was very very serious. I think that MC1 got off a little bit too easy, just because 'I love him', and I think that there should have been some real discussion or dialogue or explaination or apology or something to hash out the problem.
Oh honey...
I will never look at honey the same way again. I liked the story well enough but the whole thing could have been resolved in the first chapter with a long talk.
My one niggle about this was the fact that this relationship started when one of the mcs was 14. If they had not had sex the moment he turned 18, I wouldn't have been so focused on that. There were some mentioning of grooming but no one took it seriously. That part was messed up. This could have been a great story had they started talking when he was already 18.
This author has written another fantastic, poignant, powerful, grab-you-by-the-feels, engaging, heartbreaking yet hopeful, charming, hilarious, delightful, sexy, and totally awesome tale. There were funny moments, sad moments, moments that made me cry, and, lest I forget, moments that made me want to smack some sense into a certain character's head. Thank you, Anna Wineheart, I absolutely LOVED this visit back to the wonderful world of Meadowfall.
Slow moving
Normally, I love a secret baby story, add in an age gap with an older Omega and should have hit all my buttons. But for some reason, I couldn't get into it. The plot dragged in parts and there was too much sex not enough relationship. The domestic violence angle was important but I couldn't understand why the ex was hanging around. He seemed like an unnecessary plot device. Overall, just not for me.
Reviewer’s Note: Anna Wineheart was kind enough to share the release of Burning for my Prince with a select group of people who offered to listen and leave an honest review. Being given a free book doesn’t mean I’ll go easy on the author/narrator. I believe in being honest with my opinion and you will, therefore, get a brutally honest review. Please keep in mind that I’m not an overly harsh critic. I’ll tell you what I think in a respectful way and I hope that it’s helpful.
First of all let me start off by saying, holy hell did John Solo do a fantastic job of narrating this book. John is one of my top five favorite narrators because he does such a great job with his readings. I love his portrayal of the different characters throughout this book. Caleb was so stinkin’ adorable! I honestly just wanted to scoop that little boy up for cuddles. Not only were the voice and mannerisms of speech well done, they really made me feel for his little character. But, I didn’t just love the innocent little four-year-old. John set the audio on fire when it came to the sexual tension and naughty scenes for this book, and I was burnin’ up! -fans self- And let me tell you, it was just HOT!
Anna is a favorite author of mine as well. She’s very good at creating stories that really touch you emotionally in some way. I love how she builds up the angst and really makes you feel the friction between characters. There was more than one moment that had me wondering when one of the characters was going snap and rain down all of the drama. I’m the sort reader that gets emotionally invested in the characters. So when things happen, be they good or bad, I feel what the characters do. I laugh, I cry, I roll my eyes, you name it and I feel. Anna is brilliant at pulling you into the story and really makes you experience it.
I have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with Perry. His lack of trust in Alphas was understandable due to the string of abusive exes he left behind. I really felt for his fear and hesitation. But, I didn’t like the fact that he basically used York to have a ‘no strings attached’ baby and then ditched him without any consideration for York. York was so in love with FrogPrince100! Prince, aka Perry, was the man of York’s dreams, and Perry ripped his young heart out. I both liked this about Perry and disliked it. The reason I like it was because it made Perry seem more real as a character. He wasn’t perfect and he made bad decisions just like a real live person. On the flip side, I disliked how Perry behaved because York was so young and sweet. I just wanted to wrap him up in bubble wrap to protect his heart from Perry.
The conflict between York and Perry was so understandable and oh so frustrating! I wanted to shake some sense into the pair of them. But, that is something I liked about this book and many other Anna Wineheart novels. She does a good job of showing how silly people can be when there is a lack of communication, misunderstandings, self-doubt, and fear to hold them back. I did like how the conflict was resolved. York almost lost the man he loves and it was just what he needed to wise up and realized what he was doing. York did a fabulous job of protecting his Omega from Ron. I just wanted to hug both Alpha and Omega during that scene. It also had me wondering where Caleb was? It would have been great if little Caleb kicked that jerk in the junk.
Oh, and don’t even get me started on that proposal. I was grinning from ear to ear like a total idiot. Of course, York would so something so silly sweet. It was definitely a ‘daww’ moment. To top off all of that sweetness, seeing York as a dad to a brand new baby, Zoey was so, so cute. I could just picture those first moments. The wedding was so unique for these two and I enjoyed it. But do you know what I enjoyed more? The bones material. Bwahahahaha! I laughed so, so hard. -kisses fingers- Beautiful.
Overall, this was a fantastic listen. There was lots to laugh about, sexy heat nookie, a whole heap of feels that punched me right in the heart, men making babies, an adorable little boy, and a happy ever after that was incredibly sweet. This book has a little bit of everything that I feel will please just about anyone into this genre. I sincerely hope that Anna decides to put all of her books on audio one day because they are definitely a go-to when I’m in the mood for a book with substance.
Long review short...if you’re a fan of mpreg with HEAs, Anna Wineheart, John Solo, and adorable kid shenanigans, give the book a listen. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
York et Perry
Alpha et Omega
📖
Que se passe-t-il lorsque le papa de votre bébé s'écrase à travers le plafond de votre salle de bain... et entre dans votre vie ?
Il y a longtemps, York Davis s'est fait un ami en ligne et est tombé amoureux de lui. À l'insu de York, FrogPrince100 était également professeur d'université. Lorsqu'ils se sont rencontrés pour apaiser la chaleur de Prince, Prince a conçu. Le lendemain, Prince disparut de la vie de York, lui brisant le cœur.
Il y a cinq ans, Perry Larkin a fait quelque chose qu'il ne devrait pas : il a cédé à ses désirs et a couché avec son béguin. Le tout premier alpha à le faire se sentir en sécurité après de nombreux abus violents de la part de ses ex. Le fait est que York avait seize ans de moins que Perry. Pour cacher son identité, Perry portait un masque lors de leur première et unique rencontre. Puis, paralysé par la culpabilité, il est parti, emmenant avec lui leur enfant à naître.
Avance rapide jusqu’à aujourd’hui : York est un pompier qui a juré de renoncer à l’amour. Sauf son nouveau voisin nerveux, Perry Larkin ? Son odeur est familière. Perry semble familier. York n'a aucune idée de ce à quoi ressemblait FrogPrince, mais Perry ne peut pas être lui. York ne devrait pas vouloir voir Perry sourire à nouveau. Son cœur ne devrait pas trop trembler autour de Perry.
De plus, Perry a un fils de quatre ans qui ne peut pas être celui de York, parce que Prince prenait un contrôle des naissances cette nuit-là... n'est-ce pas ?
🖋
À un niveau subconscient, il savait que c'était ce qu'il voulait. Il avait confiance en The Boyfriend. Mais d'une manière ou d'une autre, il avait eu peur que la machine lui fasse du mal au moment où il s'y attendait le moins, comme tous ces alphas précédents. Il avait donc fixé une limite inférieure. Et maintenant, il n'avait plus ce dont il avait besoin pour venir.
Perry se mordit la lèvre, se balançant sur le gode et le prenant entièrement. Sa queue implorait d'être libérée, toute rouge foncé et épaisse. Ses genoux lui faisaient mal contre la fraîcheur de la baignoire. Il attrapa le bord de la baignoire et se poussa vers le bas.
Quelque chose gémit. Perry a pensé que c'était la machine qui grinçait contre la baignoire.
Il pensa au sourire de York et sa queue palpitait. Ses couilles se sont serrées. Il lui en fallait davantage avant de pouvoir atteindre le bord. Il avait besoin de ce gode plus profondément en lui, il avait besoin qu'il le baise comme un animal fou.
Et il aurait aimé ne pas être à genoux dans sa baignoire, avec pour seule compagnie une machine recouverte de silicone. Il avait toujours besoin d'un véritable alpha à l'intérieur, d'un alpha qui le tenait. Cette prise de conscience fit couler son cœur, alors même que son plaisir montait de plus en plus haut, ses couilles lourdes de son jouissance.
Perry a saisi la base de sa machine à baiser et s'est poussé vers le bas. La baignoire grinça, puis beugla.
Puis il s'est écrasé sur le sol, faisant tomber Perry en avant alors qu'un trou sombre s'ouvrait sous lui.
Il a crié.
Did Not Finish
I didn’t finish this book.
I’m very particular when it comes to alpha/omega and mpreg (I’ve only taken to one author of the genre before now).
Anna Winehart was a new to me author and based on lots of positive recommendations I was more than happy to give her a go.
Unfortunately she didn’t win me over.
The sexual innuendos were too much. They felt sleazy and like a cheap effort by the author.
I mean.. who hasn’t heard the ‘snake in your trousers’ joke before? I really wish she hadn’t gone down that road because the innuendos were not funny, let alone seductive..
I think that’s what really bothered me - this book didn’t feel like a romance.
It was more a tale about an overconfident Alpha desperately trying to win over a very reluctant (and dishonest) Omega.
Neither Perry or York were likeable in my opinion.
Sure, Perry was scared and scarred from prior abuse from Alphas, I get that.. and I’ll even give York some credit for telling him time and again that he won’t hurt him.. but I just didn’t take to Perry at all (turns out I don’t like liars either, so I was on-side with York there).
And York was just too young. He was too full on, roaring ahead, jumping in the deep end, declaring love and forevers without pausing to take in the full picture or consider what he was doing or even ask Perry if he was ready.
I do wish I’d enjoyed this more because I hate leaving a book unfinished. Perhaps it improved in the final third.. I’m not inclined to finish it so I guess I’ll never know..
3.5 stars
I’m not new to mpreg and omegaverse books, so I was expecting the usual simple plot erotica type story when I started Burning for My Prince. This angsty, heart-wrenching, age gap non-shifter mpreg romance totally throw me off in the best possible way.
Perry and York had great chemistry. I loved the flirty banters and sexual innuendo that they shared. I laughed so hard at some of their jokes and would never look at a jar of honey the same. The push and pull at the beginning were agonizing, but once they stop fighting the inevitable, sparks flew off the charts.
Perry’s abusive past was heartbreaking but I felt it dragged out too long and made him a bit whinny and irrational. I understand he was just trying to protect himself from getting hurt with secrets but I couldn’t see why he had to lie to York. I believed holding back and keeping secrets were justifiable, but outright lying were not.
I truly enjoyed this emotional second chance non-shifter mpreg romance. Their poignant journey broke my heart and I was delighted to see they navigated all of the bumps and got to their HEA at the end.
Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me, despite going in with high hopes.
From the beginning, I struggled to feel any chemistry between the two main characters. The relationship felt very insta love which I’m usually fine with if the emotional connection deepens as the story progresses. But in this case, I never felt that spark develop beyond surface-level interactions.
What really pulled me out of the story, though, were the repeated sexual innuendos and jokes made in front of a four year old. One offhand moment I could have overlooked, but it happened multiple times intentionally with one character even trying to include the child in the joke. It gave me a serious ick, and it was hard to move past.
Lastly During an intimate moment between the leads (while knotted), York brings up “frog prince,” we think he’s finally put the pieces together. But when Perry denies it, York casually responds, “Oh, sorry, I was thinking of someone else.”the moment felt completely mishandled. For someone so concerned about not hurting Perry, York’s reaction felt dismissive and left me uncomfortable especially given Perry’s fears around being used and discarded by Alphas.
Overall, the dynamic felt off, and I couldn’t bring myself to keep reading. While I can see what the story was aiming for, the execution just didn’t work for me
Audiobook review
This is a typical Anna Wineheart MM A/O Mpreg set in the Meadowfall universe. This is book one in the Meadowafall. Spicy, hot and a quirky fascination for an everyday food or appliance 😉 Firefighters series. Perry is a professor and omega who is precious, damaged and scared to believe he will gind a kind loving Alpha. He has a child called Caleb, who later on becomes obsessed 🐍.
York is a firefighter and alpha and the new neighbour of Perry which he meets in the moat compromising and unexpected way.
Perry and York know eachother, but York is not aware of the consequuences from their last in person meet up. The both know one thing, they like the other. Can they talk eveything and can York handle the truth and does Perry believe in trust? One thing you will never look at honey in the same way . 📚 4,5*
Overall the narration was adequate, but some things annoyed me. The way some scenes was not pleasant for me, to stereotypical. 4-
Overall 4*
