In today's challenging and busy world, don't you wish you knew how to quieten your mind and focus on yourself? In On Meditation, renowned spiritual leader, Sri M, answers all your questions on the practice and benefits of meditation. With his knowledge of all the various schools of practice and the ancient texts, he breaks down the complicated practice into a simple and easy method that any working man or woman, young or old, can practise in their everyday lives.
Sri M (born Mumtaz Ali Khan), who was born a Muslim, was attracted to Vedic teachings at an early age. He met his Guru at the age of 9 and left home at 19 to live in the Himalayas, where he met many saints and sages before living with his Guru for three years. M has been associated with the famous Rishi Valley School as a former trustee of the Krishnamurti Foundation. Rather than choosing any specific religion or tradition, M teaches the universal essence of all religions.
M is founder of the Satsang Foundation. When asked about the Foundation and its purposes, he responded, “Satsang, which in Sanskrit, translates to holy company. Satsang is important because it is in keeping holy company that we overcome all circumstances and distractions, attain our true purpose of life, and uplift the world. By keeping holy company, not only with saints and sages and with other sincere spiritual seekers, but most importantly and with our True Self, our own Soul, we achieve deeper access and ultimate union with the Divine Essence. That is the goal of all prayer, meditation and spiritual practice, as well as all religions.”
He is a spiritual teacher and Guru to many and he teaches Kriya Yoga, the Upanishads and Sri Vidya Upasana. He lives in Madnapalle, Andhra Pradesh (near Bangalore) and travels around India and the World teaching and taking students on regular Yatras to sacred places.
What is mind? Is it situated inside the brain? Why do we think? Why breathing is important in Meditation? What are the benefits of Meditation? These are some of the questions that arise in our mind when we think about meditation. The answer to all those questions is in this book. If we do not have any time to sit and meditate, then observe carefully the activities that we are doing. Our brain is designed to perform one task at a time, we can’t multitask. So if we focus carefully on the task or activity that we are doing, that is also a form of meditation. Meditation is not to control the mind, but instead to closely observe the thought process and let it go. In the end, the mind will become peaceful and still and total bliss will be the outcome. That's the reason why we can see a sense of calmness in the face of yogis.
"For a mind that is still and in that stillness there is an abundance of energy" !!!
Oh it took me a while, maybe 5 weeks to read this book cover to cover. But oh it was totally worth it. This was perhaps my first read on Meditation and I loved every bit. The book is in a Question and Answer form and Sri M Ji had responded to so many of my own queries with this book.
Thank you to you and all you teachers Sir. I feel blessed!
One can get to know of Method of Meditation and a lot of questions answered ranging from why should one meditate, Posture and practice and many more, with this book.
Pranam to the master. He has given everything of his experience in this book. It solves lots of queries a seeker has without going in to aspects that is debatable for unprepared mind. I offer my salutation to the Master for sharing his knowledge . May all be free.
Really liked this book because Shri M has given good enough advice when you start meditating, and the best part is the advice has been given in questions and answers form, because what happens generally is that you definitely have some questions when you start any practice and if you find answers for your queries you feel more encouraged to keep on practising.
Although the book is just about 150 pages but it should be revisited time and again.
This book has written in very simple language. It will be clear your all query related to meditation. Recommended for those who has doubts like how to concentrate during meditation, why we do meditation, method of meditation, best place and timing for meditation etc.
I have already seen many of Sri M's youtube videos on 'Upanishads IIT Delhi' but I completely forgot that its same person, I have randomly picked up this book at crosswords during holiday in India. Read it to find out what meditation really is? The book has in-depth Q and A on meditation. Lovely short read also combines some yogic knowledge
This book covers the very basics of meditation, beginning with how one should meditate and gradually delving deeper into its effects. I believe that nearly identical or even superior information can be obtained by watching Sri M on his YouTube Channel - Satsang Foundation.
However, for anyone just starting with meditation, this book could serve as a valuable guide."
The book is structures very well and has clear demarcation of each section. It's really helpful for beginners and spiritual seekers and very engaging q and a style. Overall a good book to improve your psyce
A information and educative read on the techniques of meditation and how to overcome the challenges one may face. Written in a simple FAQ format, the responses provide the much-needed knowledge on needs to make their meditation more effective and efficient.
Listened to on Audible. Great insights and simple to use tips for the ones who wish to learn and perfect their practice. Lucid language and an engaging narrative. While the overall narration was good the pronunciation of sanskrit /Indian words could have been well rehearsed.
Informative and interesting guide to know and learn more about meditation and its impact on our body and soul. The writing is simple yet detailed enough to keep you hooked if such subjects are of your interest.
A must read! Amazing examples and short stories described by Sri. M. The tiny window of short stories in between Sri. M's answers, lets you peep into the other world.
Just get the book , read and think about this long and hard. Essential and basic material. Key takeaway, 'your effort' is mandatory and that trumps everything else.
