*Highlander's Hidden Destiny is a steamy Scottish historical romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages). No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
The story starts out with Feargan Galbreth Laird of Lock Beira going to Versailles,France to speak to Bonnie Prince Charlie. He wants to warn him not to start the Jacobite rising of 1745. Well we know how the 45 rising turned out. He meets Ladies Amelia and her sister Catherine Barton daughters of the Earl of Workington. They are at the court of Versailles. Catherine introuduces herself and sister to Feargan and just out of the blue they start a friendship. Of course Prince Charles refuses to speak with Feargan. Amelia's betroth Philip the Marquess of Torbay realizes there is an attraction between Feargan and Amelia. So he kidnaps her!! Torbay is rude and acts like a 4 year old having a temper tantrum.
All of the banter between the characters sounds immature. There is no real story here. The writting is junvenile at best. I wish I could ask why some of the characters keep calling Feargan Sire instead of Laird. Some scenes just didn't make sense and weren't well thought out. The sex was not that steamy. I just didn't get the point of the story!! It drags on and on. It took days for me to finish reading it.
This is the story of the English Lady Amelia and Scottish Laird Feargan. In an arranged engagement with a man, she despises Amelia finds love in the Highlands of Scotland. Feargan finds the lady of his dreams, but she is already engaged. The lovers must overcome many obstacles if they are to find happiness together. Will love prevail?
This is a beautiful love story in a time where life is full of uncertainty and honor is valued above all else. I found myself rooting for the MCs throughout. I found the scenes romantic for the most part but at times a bit confusing. Combined with the speed through which other scenes took place and a few grammatical issues towards the end and you have my reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves the time period and look forward to reading more from this author.
This is a well written Highland romance with strong, well developed characters. The authors do a fantastic job taking you back to the day with their descriptive writing and detailed scenes, They pull you in with all the drama, intrigue and danger as well as the twists, turns and beautiful romance between Feargan and Amelia. I loved reading their story and especially loved the ending. Highly recommend .

What a well written and sweeping epic story!, which follows Feargan🐺🍆⛲🔪 and Amelia💃💋 from France, to Cumberland, then to Scotland! This is an ADULT romance💕, and does have some violence. I love that the Author, MacKenna📚, includes some real historical facts in her novel. The ending was not believable to me, it was too neat and felt like the Author wanted tie up the end in a nice neat bow.🎀
I got this book free for an honest review. The Highlander's Hidden Destiny Maddie Mackenna I liked Fearna and Amelia's story because you could definitely tell that they loved each other. Each was willing to give up so much to save the other. The author obviously did a lot of research before writing this story because there was a lot of descriptions of places, foods, period fashions that many writers don’t the time to accurately research and it impresses me when I come across one who does because it's rare. For a debut novel, the writing was very good. I did see some editing errors that should have been corrected before the book went to press but all in all it was a very entertaining book. Another thing, it was almost like she was trying to tell 2 stories at the same time. The author had a bit too much going on. First. There was the love triangle between Fearna, Amelia and Philip, the love story between Fearna and Amelia, Philip’s jealousy, Amelia's Kidnapping and rescue, the Jacobite uprising, Philip finding out some life altering news, Catherine, Amelia's sister, getting together with Philip. There was too much going on plot wise. It kind of sounded like a soap opera. Ms. Mackenna you need you keep your plots a little bit simpler. Concentrate on telling one story at a time.
What a really wonderful story. Highlander's Hidden Destiny characters are believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate to Feargan and Amelia draw you in and give you reason to take the journey with them. The scenes are so strikingly detailed it paints an incredible backdrop that makes you feel like you are one with the story.Outstanding historical romance with red hot passion, trials and tribulations, suspense, adventure, drama, and twist and turns
A Highland Fairytale Retold in Maddie MacKenna's Newest Offering
This was a fairytale of a novel well written by Maddie MacKenna. The hero, Feargan, saves the heroine, Amelia, from her evil fiance. The cast of characters were well drawn and the plot fast and charming. The real beauty of the book rests in the beautiful descriptions the author drew of the Scottish highlands. It made your eyes long to see it, smell it and experience it for oneself.
This is a "lovely" story. I enjoyed reading it so much that I awoke early in the morning just so I could finish it before my day started. I did a lot of smiling throughout the reading. I was also impressed by how the author approached the romance between the H/h. It was not what I usually read. This romance was on an intellectual level that had a sensible approach to the relationship. It was not insta-love nor insta-lust. It was admiration that grew with the friendship between the characters. They also spent time writing to each other when they were apart continuing getting to know each other. The fly in the ointment was that the heroine was betrothed to someone else. That was a serious complication. The fiancé was a jack@ss arrogant miserable haughty s.o.b. an undesirable partner. This story comes with surprising revelations, twists and turns. The world around them was uncertain as England and Scotland was ruled by the Protestant House of Hanover. They tried to crush the House of Stuart who were the supporters of the Catholic Jacobite cause. The ruling Regent who lead the Jacobite cause fled to France and set up court there as his cousin was the King of France. Disenfranchised Englishmen and disenchanted Scots fled to France and followed the exiled Regent. The rumors were that the Regent was to mount an attack against the English very soon. Our hero Feargan Galbreth Laird of Lock Beira traveled to France to speak with the Regent to dissuade him from an uprising. The timing was not right and the people were not ready. While at court Feargan met Ladies Amelia and Catherine Barton, daughters of the Earl of Workington. Feargan was immediately intrigued by Amelia. The more time he spent around her the more he became interested in her. He knew she was betrothed but it did not matter to him. When he met Amelia's fiancé Lord Philip Yates, the Marquess of Torbay, he was definitely unimpressed. The man was insulting, rude and treated Amelia with no respect. Feargan and Philip became rivals. When Philip found out about Feargan's mission to the Regent, he considered Feargan a traitor not to support what the Regent wanted and made sure the Regent did not give him an audience. From this point in the story begins in earnest the blossoming relationship between Amelia and Feargan and the beginning of Philip's insecurities, jealousy, possessiveness and evil machinations towards Feargan. He did what he could to tarnish Feargan's name and blame him for the ill caused to Amelia. At this point in the story there is a kidnapping, rescue and danger as Feargan whisks Amelia from England to Scotland to his castle for protection. I love the mature spin the author put on Feargan and Amelia's romance. It was a nice change. You will also find as you read wonderful descriptions of the Scottish countryside, the meadows, the lochs and the mountains oh and the crystal-clear cool water from the mountains, the fresh breeze, the smell of the air. There is so much imagery that will keep your senses alert throughout the story. Then there are some astonishing revelations to be revealed. (more than one) Such surprises I did not expect. Well maybe one of them I did but definitely not the other. A very good read. Lighthearted and will surely satisfy your highland romance expectation. I do recommend it. There were a few discrepancies but nothing great to detract from enjoyment of the story.
I absolutely adore the fact the book was writen mostly from his perspective and not only the female side. The male charachter part was very well written and not exaggerated. He wasn't shallow eather and I appreciate that. The attention to detail at describing things is amazing and makes imagining stuff so much easier! The only thing that I probably read different than others is that I find all the french people sounding very german to me in my head (I am closer to german speaking countries than french which might be the problem). And I would definetly love the abduction part a bit longer and not so simple for the man to find his woman. But the best thing of all was the little SCOTTISH BROGUE GLOSSARY! I am quite fluent in it since I read loads of books about scots but I did find it helpful in some cases. Plus who doesn't love a good book that is based on historical events!!
Feargan is a fool, but a wonderful protecting fool. His first bout of foolishness is when he tries to tell Charles not to attack yet. The second is wooing the betrothed of the man who hates him. When Amelia is kidnapped and Feargan finds her. He doesn't take her back to her father, but takes her to his home in the Highlands. So, I dubbed Sir Feargan the Fool. Don't get me wrong, the story is full of action and the chemistry between Feargan and Amelia is felt. It's the sister though that makes this story, as she does everything to see her sister Amelia happy.
Amidst fear of war two sisters fall in love with two unlikely half brothers. Feargan is a Scottish Laird who falls in love with and English Lords fiancée. This forces the Phillip to behave in a most dishonorable way. Amelia is a beautiful girl who is very close to her sister Catherine. The story tells the tale of how they discover love and new family ties. It shows how when true love happens there is no way to dissuade it.
This is a very well written book by Maddie MacKenna and Cobalt Fairy and I really enjoyed reading it. Paris, a Scot, a engaged Lady, a very vicious and jealous man, Scotland and England, and two loved to last forever. There is a very unusual surprise. Want more? I would recommend this book for you to find out the answers. Buy this book and you can find out the answers.
I read over 50% of this book and couldn't finish. It was sorta boring. I have read many Scottish romances and was disappointed in the characters portrayal.
