Boom! Snap! Whiz! Zap! The Magnificent Makers chapter book series is filled with science, adventure, and characters kids will love!
A modern day Magic School Bus for the chapter book reader!
A wacky scientist, Dr. Crisp loves to invite students to the her Maker Maze for a STEM-filled adventure! Just solve a riddle and the portal to the Maze will appear! But there's a catch...if the kids don't complete a challenge fast enough, they can never come back to the Maze!
Pablo and Violet are on a field trip to the science museum and today they're paired up with a classmate they don't know very well--Henry. As they enter the Maze and learn about touch, hearing, and vision, Pablo and Violet learn that there's more to Henry and his odd behavior than meets the eye - Henry has a sensory processing disorder. Together they'll learn a little something about feelings (literally!), acceptance, and what makes us special.
Theanne Griffith can’t get you into the Maker Maze (only Dr. Crisp can do that). But she can tell you a lot of cool science facts. By day, she is a brain scientist at Rutgers University (no, she’s not a zombie). At night, she turns into a storyteller. She loves tinkering in the lab as much as she loves writing children’s books. As a writer, her goal is to spark a love for science and discovery in children. She currently lives in New Jersey with her family and three cats. Visit Theanne online at theannegriffith.com.
Best friends and classmates Violet and Pablo are on a field trip to the City Science Museum! They can't wait to explore the new exhibit all about the senses. When they get to the museum, they are excited to be partnered with Henry, a quiet boy in their class who is a little different than other kids. Henry has a sensory processing disorder. He struggles with loud noises and sometimes has a hard time paying attention in class.
Just like at school, Violet and Pablo discover a riddle that leads them to the Maker Maze. This time, Henry joins them, and the three work against the clock to complete three challenges in 120 maker minutes--learning even more about their senses and making sure they can beat the clock so that they can return to the maze for more science fun in the future.
Another Maker Maze book! This series does an excellent job combining science and friendship. The addition of a main character with a sensory processing disorder is a welcome addition. The eardrum challenge is particularly fun, especially since readers could replicate it at home. Looking forward to more!
Thank you Random House Children’s Books @randomhousekids #randomhousekidspartner and Theanne Griffith @doctheagrif for these 3 free books! The Magnificent Makers series by Theanne Griffith. Illustrated by Reggie Brown⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Genre: STEM Chapter book.
The Magnificent Makers series follows the adventures of best friends Violet and Pablo as they explore the Maker Maze (a magical laboratory filled with robots, 3D printers, and other cool technology), and embark on science-themed adventures. Just solve a riddle and the portal to the Maze will appear! But there’s a catch…if the kids don’t complete a challenge fast enough, they can never come back to the Maze. Along the way, Violet and Pablo face challenges like teamwork, managing failure, and overcoming jealousy. Each book focuses on a different scientific topic, and includes 2 interactive science activities for readers to do at home. #1 HOW TO TEST A FRIENDSHIP: Violet, Pablo, and new classmate Deepak discover a riddle that opens a magic portal in the Science Space at school. It’s full of robots, 3D printers, an antigravity chamber, and more. Doors line the walls, with a new science adventure behind each. With help from wacky scientist Dr Crisp, they have out-of-this-world adventures to help them master school science concepts. #2 BRAIN TROUBLE: Violet and Pablo enter the Maker Maze with a set of twins who are interested in learning all about the brain. They can’t wait to solve science puzzles-if they can learn to work together! #3 RIDING SOUND WAVES: Pablo and Violet are with a classmate they don’t know well–Henry. As they enter the Maze and learn about touch, hearing, and vision, they learn there’s more to Henry and his odd behavior than meets the eye–he has a sensory processing disorder. Together they learn about feelings (literally!), acceptance, and what makes us special. It’s STEM-focused, fun, interactive, and it’s 5 stars from me 📚👩🏼🦳 #themagnificentmakers #theannegriffith
6/9/2022 ~ A solid early chapter book. Science concepts are woven into the story in a reasonable way (not TOO didactic.) Each book has the same two main characters, Violet & Pablo. In this volume, Pablo is starting to teach Violet some Spanish, so there are a few common Spanish words worked into the dialogue. Each volume also has a 3rd character who accompanies Violet & Pablo to the magical maker space. In this book, that character is Henry, who is neurodiverse. His difficulty with loud sounds is worked naturally into the story. I also appreciated that he referred to Mama and Mom, his two mothers.
When their third-grade class goes on a field trip to a science museum, best friends Violet and Pablo end up going on a field trip within a field trip with their classmate Henry. While their classmates are frozen in place, they visit a Maker Maze where the enthusiastic scientist Dr. Crisp uses various tests and activities to help them learn about the five senses. Youngsters will love the demonstration of how the eardrum works while also gaining insight into the particular challenges faced by Henry who has auditory processing disorder and is bothered by loud or unexpected noises. Violet and Pablo are quite patient with their new friend and accepting of someone who is neurodiverse. While it wasn't necessary to frame this in a Maker world, for youngsters who are into Maker Spaces, this book with its generous number of illustrations will be right up their alley.
