Barflies #1

The Bar Next Door

Rate this book
Sometimes you take the shot, and sometimes the shot takes you.

As the manager of Montreal’s most infamous dive bar, Monroe—and it’s just Monroe, thank you very much—is used to serving up her signature pearls of wisdom alongside an array of shots, pints, and pitchers. In fact, she thrives on it. Taverne Toulouse is a mighty ship, and she its fearless captain, trusted by patrons and bar staff alike to steer them through choppy waters.

If only she’d been given a little warning before a full-on tsunami swept in next door.

Julien Valois’ wining and dining empire is making waves. The next item on his agenda is opening a trendy lounge right next to Monroe’s beloved Taverne Toulouse—one that’s meant to run the dive bar out of business so he can buy up that property too.

His plans did not include falling for a five-foot-nothing brunette with an impressive vocabulary and an even more impressive ability to manhandle drunk frat boys twice her size.

They’re rivals in every sense of the word, but when Monroe and Julien are in a room together, the battle lines fade away. Their defences lower, their hearts get louder than their heads, and the burn between them goes down like just the right shot—intense, intoxicating, and able to sweep their priorities away with a single taste.

Until reality decides to slap up a big ‘For Sale’ sign and force them remember those priorities all too clearly.

The Bar Next Door is part of the Barflies series, a set of standalone of romantic comedies that chronicle the lives and loves of the staff at a Montreal dive bar.

CW// death (including fathers, grandmothers), cancer, brief mention of murder, brief mention of sexual assault, brief mention of suicide

“Monroe is a torch lighting up parts of myself I’ve kept in the dark for far too long.”

I hate it when I have to give one of Katia Rose’s books a low star rating since she’s one of my favorite authors, but unfortunately The Bar Next Door didn’t work for me.

I knew this wouldn’t work right off the bat for me as you find out really quickly that Monroe is best friends with Roxanne from the Sherbrooke Station series. Roxanne has a toxic relationship with her boyfriend that borders on grooming. Despite that, Monroe was a huge factor for why Roxanne was able to live near her boyfriend and Monroe encouraged Roxanne’s relationship. It rubbed me the wrong way and it immediately made me dislike Monroe. As the story progressed, I found other reasons to dislike Monroe. For example, she witheld vital information about her life from Julien then she got mad that Julien witheld information about his life from her as well. It’s like she expects Julien to live up to one standard while she doesn’t care how she’s a hypocrite for not living up to her own standard. There’s also the whole claiming Julien is playing games thing when he legitmately had to fly to a whole different continent because one of his relatives was dying.

Julien wasn’t my favorite either as he comes off as super cocky in the start. Unlike Monroe though, he grew from his mistakes and became a better person. I really appreciated seeing him grow into someone who deeply cares about how his business ventures impact other people.

Due to not liking Monroe and initially not looking Julien, I found it hard to root for their relationship and their success. I also think they should’ve sat down and worked through their main relationship issue sooner instead of just getting physical with each other while trying to ignore the problem during their intimate moments.

DeeDee constantly got on my nerves throughout this story. Every time she appeared on the page, I was immediately rolling my eyes at how much she annoyed me. I’m not looking forward to reading her book in this series, but maybe Katia can perform a miracle and make me like DeeDee in One for the Road.

I’m normally fine with the French that’s infused into Katia’s novels, but I found it a bit excessive in this novel and I couldn’t understand the majority of what was being said in French. I think it would be really cool to read one of Katia’s books if you speak both English and French, but unfortunately that’s not me.

This book wasn’t all bad though.

I like how both Monroe and Julien worked to improve each other. Julien worked on helping Monroe focus on herself and her desires more, which was actually fascinating for me to read the spicy scenes because of that. I’m asexual, so I have no desire to actually engage in that behavior, but I find it so interesting how Katia keeps finding new ways in her books to get me to look at intimacy differently. The intimacy in this novel was less about the physical acts for me and more about priotizing your own wants over other people’s desires. It was really cool. Monroe meanwhile helped Julien look at one of his relationships with a different perspective and that helped change Julien into the admirable guy that he is at the end of the story.

I also appreciated how this story helped me look at bars in a different way. I don’t drink alcohol - it’s not really my thing, so I was nervous to read a series that takes place in a bar. However, the bar aspect and the way that this bar brought a whole community of people together was really inspiring to me.

While The Bar Next Door wasn’t my favorite due to the characters, I’m still looking forward to continuing with this series as I normally love most of Katia’s books.

I absolutely adored The Bar Next Door! Monroe was someone everyone can aspire to be. Her work ethic and love and compassion for people was truly admirable. I also loved Julien and his sexy business owner persona. I can’t wait to read what comes next.

Okay. Wow.
After reading Katia's Sherbrooke Station series I HAD to read this one. I literally devoured this one in a day. lol
I loved that this one is placed in the same world as Sherbrooke Station and we get to see Roxanne and Cole make a small appearance!
I feel like now a days pacing is a huge issue with some books but this one was just right. Monroe and Julien are fun loveable characters. Their relationship is sweet and sad at times.
The ending was perfect, definitely room for another book in this series. Looking forward to reading more!

I'll probably write a longer review but closer to release day 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh mon Dieu. Where do I start?

First up thank you to Katia Rose for the ARC of The Bar Next Door becuase I have been dying for more about Monroe since reading The Sherbrooke Stations series.

If you haven't read that series, do it now! It's a delicious, sweet and funny four book series of standalones based on an up and coming band. Each man will steal your heart.

Now to the man that has my heart currently! Julian. Mon amour. *swoon* He is probably one of my favourite book boyfriends. Not just becuase of the glasses and beard that I imagine make him look like some sexy cross over of professor and businessman buy becuase the man has a heart of gold. Even if he doesn't realise it.

A little rewind before I continue my swooning on Julian. Monroe is a manager for a bar that is her second home. There have been many stories and chances taken within that bar, so when it's threatened to be taken away from her she can't help feeling hurt.

The building next door to Monroe's bar has just been sold to Julian. He's a businessman. He's work focused, literate and charming with little touches that can't help but intrigue Monroe when she goes on a little adventure to see who is that man that could be costing her to lose her business.

They end up forming quite a bond and fondness with one another. However with the thought of their dreams and desires in loop they find it hard to see a balance, even when they are battling it so well.

With the sweetness and hominess I always feel reading a Katia Rose novel, the story has me hooked from the first page craving for more till the last.

I loved meeting old friends and making new ones. (I'm talking about you Julian ;) I call this a must read for the story and emotional road it'll take you on with many laughs and swoons during the ride.

There is not much more I can say but, pick it up when it comes your way becuase it will so be worth it! In the meantime grab another Katia Rose read because she is an Indie Author you shouldn't be missing out on!

What a beautifully written book! Katia Rose has quickly become one of my to-go contemporary fiction authors all thanks to this amazing book. I adored the French references/phrases in the story so much since it took place in a cute Montreal dive bar. What truly impressed me was the incredibly creative chapter titles. Each chapter started with a word that has a literary meaning AND wine-related definition. I found myself not only easily drawn to the plot itself and the characters' subtle romantic development, but at the same time, more intrigued by these interesting facts about wine and anything similar. Besides, the chemistry between the main characters, Monroe and Julien, is so natural that I envy their sparks so much! All in all, this book is really well-written and full of action-packed, well-thought-out plot designs, and wonderful characters that'll make you fall in love with everything the moment you walk into Taverne Toulouse...literally! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

The Bar Next Door has all the staples of a wonderful rom/com. Three dimensional characters that are down to earth and refreshing, a wonderful story line and writing, humour, and poignant moments that will touch your heart and that may make you shed a tear or two.

For me, this is Katia’s best book yet. From the characters, to the plot and the simmering heat between the characters, my full attention was captured.

Julien Valois has got to be the most charismatic and charming character I have met in all the romance novels I have read. His charm and charisma come off as completely sexy to me.

I’m so happy Monroe got her story. Monroe is a giving person and helps everyone. I was glad to see Julien take care of her after everything she has done for everybody else. Monroe is a strong character but Julien is the perfect man for her. Rivals, enemies, friends and lovers. Is there anything these two have not touched on?

Tavern Toulouse is on its last leg and with a new buyer for the place next door, it may just lose the last leg it’s standing on. Monroe sets out to do some reconnaissance to see what the competition will be and what she will have to work against.

Here, she meets the new owner, Julien. She realizes after this meeting, that she may mot only lose the bar she loves so much but her heart as well.

Will she be able to save Taverne Toulouse? Will she lose her heart in the process? Or will it all end in heartbreak?

Anyone who loves a sweet and spicy read with a dash of humour will love this book. I recommend this book wholeheartedly. One-click today! What have you got Toulouse? 😍

I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book!
It was a perfect blend of sexy, sweet and fun with awesome characters and a relationship that made me swoon.

Monroe has worked at Tavern Toulouse since her student days. She loves her bar and her staff and her staff love her. However, the tavern has hit a rough patch and the owner is a dick so the threat of closure hangs over her head.
When the building next door is purchased and the new owner - Julien - begins to renovate it for his latest project - a wine bar - Monroe is under more pressure than ever.
So, naturally, Monroe does some under the radar snooping trying to ensure that the bar next door doesn't threaten Tavern Toulouse and that's where the tale of Monroe and Julien begins!

From this pov, you could say that The Bar Next Door is an enemies-to-lovers or a rivals-to-lovers but honestly? It's lacking the dislike and anger that those tropes tend to carry.
While Monroe is cautious of Julien she doesn't dislike him and Julien is smitten with Monroe from the get-go. The deceit of Monroe being the manager of Tavern Toulouse but not telling Julien doesn't go on for too long but their relationship doesn't change the fact that Julien's goals threaten everything Monroe has worked for and wants.

Monroe is such a lovable character. She's one of those people who gives and gives and gives and doesn't think to take for herself. Watching her learn to put herself first sometimes is a joy.

Julien is a wonderful, sexy, Frenchman who was born to privilege but that doesn't stop him working extremely hard to make it without resting on his family's laurels. However, this can make him extremely blinkered, especially when it comes to other people and their needs if those needs clash with those of his businesses.

Julien and Monroe are perfect for each other. Their relationship is almost effortless when the elephant in the room - aka rival bars - is ignored. When the situation inevitably implodes it's not packed with unnecessary drama or anger but resignation and sadness which made the resolution somewhat unexpected and incredibly sweet.
There was an honesty and purity to their relationship that you don't see too often and I adored every page of it.

The Bar Next Door is a perfect contemporary romance for when you're wanting low angst, good banter, and a beautiful connection.
I cannot wait to read more in this series!

Je suis tellement heureux, ma bouche fait mal de sourire si grand! I adored this book so much, and loved these characters even more. This book was such a swoon worthy read, I couldn’t get enough.

Monroe is the manager of a failing bar. She loves that bar and her staff and treats them like family. But when Julien purchases the lot next door Monroe sees that as competition. And so, it becomes her mission to save the bar and the people who work there.

Julien is a businessman and his focus is on work. He’s every bit charismatic and charming. Though he’s not one for relationships, but meeting Monroe throws him off and suddenly he wants more.

Julien and Monroe try their best to maintain their distaste for one another. But soon a bond is formed, however they find it difficult to see a balance. Their sexual tension is evident and there’s no denying the sparks between them. And boy does Julien bring the fire out of Monroe. I loved these two. And Julien speaking French, mon dieu! Julien était en feu et m’a fait fondre.

The Bar Next Door was sweet, spicy and humorous. A wonderful storyline with down to earth and refreshing characters. With poignant moments that’ll touch your heart. This book will have you laughing and swooning nonstop. Katia, bravo, un autre gagnant. À votre santé.

When you have an author you love, you always think that you have a favorite book. THEN comes their new book. Then THAT book is your favorite. I feel like that with all of Katia's work that I've read. At this point, I'm only going to say I have favorite characters. Monroe was someone who I adored in Your Chorus, so I was so super excited that she got her own book. Monroe is definitely going up on the shelf of favorite characters how!!!

This whole book was just so good and so enticing. It was all I could do to stop myself from staying up until wee hours of the morning reading it. Monroe is a character that so many people can connect with and I definitely felt like I connected with her. Then throw in Julian, the gorgeous Frenchman, it felt like fate was dropped into Monroe's lap. One of the things I loved most about Julian and Monroe was how they met. Their "meet cute" was so adorable. They were both so taken by each others looks. Kind of like a lust at first sight.

One of my favorite things an author does is when they put a character in their book that has a love of literature. It almost makes you feel like you could be that book character. Monroe and Julian's love of literature really took me for a loop. I ADORED this!! Heck, Monroe even has a large Charles Dickens poster!! And the description of Monroe touching the spins of Julian's books... SWOOOOONNNNNNNN. Monroe and Julian were pretty different, but I loved that they had this as one of the things they had in common. Speaking of things in common, their love for their spirits. Julian with his wine and Monroe with her craft beers. They both just have so much passion for their craft, it was pretty inspiring!

This story had so many layers. There was the whole love/hate thing with Monroe and Julian, there was the layer of Monroe trying to save her bar, the lives of these amazing characters, their personal lives and all of the in-between. Between the layers and the emotions, it was just so beautifully written! Katia has this way of taking you on her own special roller coaster with characters, it's a beautiful and satisfying ride and this book was no exception to that. I could probably go on and on about this book, but I don't want to give too much away. Katia, thank you for writing this masterpiece, I CANNOT wait for the next!

I said once awhile that I can be a little bit of a pushover, I like to please people and sometimes it cost things I’d like not to do, be and so on.

I don’t like this part of me, but a part of me it is. I let you know I am not altruistic, like our Monroe here, but I can let me go without even noticing and that’s one of the things I loved about this book.

Monroe has wants that have been buried for so long she doesn’t even notice shit is going down until it’s too late. That doesn’t make her weak, meek or naive. And that’s amazing! Because sometimes people – even in our little corner of the internet: romance books – have this stupid idea that if you’re altruistic or a people pleaser you’re without a backbone.

Monroe is a complex character and that’s so sweet. Everything I have read by Katia Rose until now is damn good – and read I did!

What did me in is our heroine here, the hero is something and holds its own weight, but I am so a fan girl for Monroe I have little to add besides: do you want to read an amazing romance, with hot smut times and with a heroine so multilayered and incredible you might weep? Go ahead!

You won’t be sorry. This pearl here has the right amount of smut, angst, and hello! things, grown up things going on besides the dick from our hero.

I have to start by saying m/f romance novels aren't what I normally read. I normally read f/f romance novels and I fell in love with Katia Rose's writing reading her books in that genre. So much so, that I wanted to take a leap and read all her books.

This book is super cute and the writing is totally what I have come to expect from Rose. She develops her characters very well and write with elegance and sophistication. I did get a little held up on the frequent French that was used in the book. I don't think I should complain about that considering the book is set in Montreal.

The two main characters have tons of chemistry and was captivated by their love story. I am expecting the rest of this series to be good as well.

Thank you, Katia, for helping me step out of my lesbian romances and change it up for a few days.

Ohh ohh ohh!!! A spin off from the Sherbrooke Station Series by Katia Rose. I am so excited…SQUEELLLLL!!!!! This series has our favorite Sherbrooke Station couple featured in it. That’s right folks, Roxanne and Cole. Love, love, loved their story. Now we get the story of her best friend Monroe. Yep all you Sherbrooke Station fans sit down and make room for the Barflies Series.

Monroe is manager of the Montreal’s most infamous dive bar, Taverne Toulouse. Taverne Toulouse is her kingdom and her kingdom is suffering. The owner of said kingdom is Monsieur Fournier. And he is not a nice person. He won’t make any improvements or use any of Monroe’s ideas to make business better. So she is in the red, laying off people and cutting her pay to pay the ones she has left. But Monroe is determined to make this bar work.

Julien is the proud owner of the space next to the dive bar. He plans to renovate it to a fancy wine bar. Maybe he will even buy the dive bar next door. He bet he could make an offer the owner can’t refuse. But first he must get the doors open to his new venture.

On a recon mission for Monsieur Fournier, Monroe bumps into the new owner. Man she was not prepared for the hot french man who caught her peeking in the window. While Monroe fights to save her bar, she winds up biting off more than she can chew and winds up fighting for more than just her bar.

As with all of Katia’s novels, this love story is one is a fight worth watching. Monroe is such a strong willed person, who takes care of everyone. But when will she decide to take care of her?

Julien is a sweet man, but he is a workaholic. He was hurt by someone and was described as cold. I personally did not see this about him. I actually found his character sweet and caring. He was a business man who dived into his work to hide his loneliness.

When Julien and Monroe get together, the chemistry between them is amazing and strong. I really loved their story of love and the challenges they had to face to get to their own happy ending.

This book has all those romance factors, stubbornness, sadness, happiness and love. The book is a steady fight to save Taverne Talouse and open up Monroe’s heart to love. The characters are strong and independent, yet snarky and fun. The story is sure to grab you by the heart and pull those strings tight. Guarantee no one will finish this book with a dry eye. So pick up your copy today.

*Book received in exchange for an honest review*

The Bar Next Door is book one in new series titled Barflies by new to me author Katia Rose. This book was a fun, flirty low angst romance book that was easy to read and told in a dual point of view. The Bar Next Door follows Monroe the general manager of Tavern Talouse and Julien a wealthy and successful business man. When the shop next door to Tavern Talouse is sold Monroe sets out to figure out what will be going there, her bar is already struggling, the last thing she needs is another bar to go in right next door. Julien has just bought a shop on Mont Royal in hopes to turn it into a wine bar in dedication of his late father. When the pair meet for the first time their connection is instant and the sparks fly.

On meeting for the first time Julien insults Tavern Talouse and expresses interest in buying the property. Monroe is determined to not let that happen, after-all the bar and employees and her family and her dreams all rolled into one. Determined to forget all about the sexy, bearded man next door she sets out to try and bring a crowd to Tavern Talouse. Julien is surprised when he meets Monroe for the first time, he is intrigued by the look in her eyes and can’t help but feel drawn to her. Julien is determined to find out more about Monroe and explore this attraction he is sure she feels too, however, he seems to keep putting his foot in his mouth when it comes to her, plus he is currently so busy he doesn’t really have time for a relationship.

Julien and Monroe have a slow burning romance that when it happens is hot and sweet. The main characters are well developed with a decent backstory and the chemistry was there but at times felt a bit forced. The secondary characters were endearing and hilarious and I can’t wait to find out their stories as the series progresses. Overall, I liked the book it was well written and flowed rather easily. I found the drama a bit unnecessary and the flipping between two languages hard at times, however, I got the hand of it towards the end. I would recommend to any romance reader who’s loves a good slow burn romance that is sweet and easy to read. I can’t wait to see where Katia takes the other characters in this series.

Enjoy Everyday,

OK Katia has done it yet again!!!! I loved this story so much! I had been waiting on Monroe's story and it's FINALLY here!!!
Even though it didn't have tooooo much to do with Sherbrooke Station themselves, they still made an appearance. :)
I really loved the story of Monroe and Julien and how they met. Things just kept getting thrown in their paths toward each other to make them "see" each other again. Like the unfortunate night of the out of hand college night.
Monroe is struggling to keep the bar open, and Julien is opening his next door. Yes, they are different, but still serving alcohol.
Julien can't stop thinking of Monroe, and Monroe wasn't 100% upfront with him about where she works. How long can she keep the charade up?
Monroe is fighting with the owner of the bar, and is trying to do everything she can to keep it afloat. Julien wants to buy it, and redo it to go with his next door. What will happen?
After spending some time together, Julien keeps thinking about his past relationship and how it failed, as he was always more into work than a relationship.
Monroe is now on that same path, so can they make it work? Can they put aside their professional goals for L-O-V-E?
I also loved with Monroe when she makes fun of Julien for when he says HASS LOL!!!!

Seriously Katia, it was amazing to see Monroe's story FINALLY come alive, it was so great! She was exactly how I imagined from the previous stories that she was in, and how strong willed she is.
I hope Dee Dee has a book coming. I loved her so much in this book!!!!

Some of my fave quotes from the book:
1. "Oh wait, this is you we’re talking about. You’d probably ask a serial killer if he needed a glass of water before he murdered you.” - ROFL!! Dylan sums up Monroe perfectly cause she wants to help everyone.
2. "She didn’t get killed by French dick overload like we thought!” - Roxie cracks me up!!

When you walk into Taverne Toulouse is is immediately evident that it is the dive bar to rival all dive bars, but when you meet the woman running the place you quickly learn that it is much more than that. Monroe maybe pint size, but her attitude is not, she can handle anything or anyone that is thrown her way. And her ability to match the perfect drink to each patron is downright astonishing, she knows her spirits.

But there is a new drink-slinger in town, one that plans on giving her some serious competition, and has high hopes to force her to close her doors!

The Bar Next Door brings readers into the lives of charismatic drink-slinger Monroe and her new sworn enemy Julien Valois. These two try their best to maintain their distaste for one another, but the niggling sparks between them kept finding a way to make an appearance and make things between them nice and awkward. I really enjoyed watching these two go round after round about their expertise behind the bar, and trying to outdo one another when it came to pleasing their customers. There was a battle, and aforementioned sparks, at every turn, which meant a little angst and lots of sexually charged tension on each page. This was a fun first time read, it had bits of emotion to speak to the heart, steamy times to curl the toes, and two wickedly entertaining characters to put on quite the absorbing show! If you are in the mood for a light-hearted and humorous read I suggest you pick this one up, it's certain to leave you satisfied!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.

I adored this witty, sizzling romcom from Katia Rose! I'm head over heels in love with Monroe, Julien, and the quirky Montreal bar scene they inhabit, and I can't wait for another taste.

Smart, sassy, and sincere, Monroe cares deeply about the people in her life and about every customer who filters in for a drink at Taverne Toulouse, the bar she has turned into a true community. I ADORED Monroe after spending time with her in Your Chorus, so my heart leapt at the idea of seeing her find her happy ending. The sexy and charismatic Julien Valois is her perfect match in every way, and watching the sparks of their relationship ignite is as delicious and full-bodied as the red wine Julien is partial to.

I loved how Monroe and Julien are both compassionate as well as ambitious, and they push each other to become the best possible version of themselves. By seeing life through one another’s eyes, they’re able to heal old wounds, to discover new pleasures, and to become who they were always meant to be.

Katia’s brilliance at writing authentic characters and beautifully layered friendships is once again on full display here, and there’s no better feeling than being able to spend time watching every relationship deepen and grow. Most exciting of all is that this is just the beginning of the Barflies series, as I can’t wait to return to this world and linger for as long as Katia Rose will have me.

It’s release day for The Bar Next Door! I am beyond stoked to FINALLY have this book out in the world. I’ve been very impatiently waiting to share the story with everyone, and I’m thrilled that you can all meet Monroe and Julien and fall in love with them and the whole Taverne Toulouse gang just like I did.

I knew I wasn’t ready to leave my little Montreal tribe after I finished the Sherbrooke Station series, and I had spin off centred on Taverne Toulouse in mind ever since Your Chorus. You don’t need to read Sherbrooke Station first, but if you have, you’ll definitely see some familiar faces, and if you’re new to the gang, TBND is an awesome introduction.

This is an enemies(ish) to lovers romantic comedy with all kinds of laughs, feels, and steamy times along the way. It’s my favourite recipe for a rom com, and I can’t wait for you to dive in. The story features a sassy bar manager on a mission as the heroine and, according to my readers, the swooniest hero I’ve written yet! It’s got all the banter and tension you’d expect, along with some breath-stealing, heart-pounding romance to sweep you off your feet.

Taverne Toulouse is the kind of place that makes everyone feel at home, and I know you’re going to love it there too! I’m so excited for everyone to meet the gang and get this series started.

The Bar Next Door was a great book choice to cozy up with on the weekend. The first installment of the Barflies series was a sweet, sexy, and feel-good read.

Monroe was an easily likable heroine. She was hardworking and cared a lot about her bar family; she was always striving to be kind and compassionate to others. But, Monroe was always so busy worrying about others, that she put her own dreams on the back burner.

Julian was handsome, driven, and kind; He was also a workaholic. Every accomplishment was met with a new goal to aim higher or do more. But was he doing it for himself or because he felt he had to?

Monroe and Julian wanted two completely different things. They should have been business rivals, but they were completely drawn to each other.

I found it easy to connect to the characters and to feel their attraction. Their bond strengthened the more time they spent together, and Katia did a wonderful job building their relationship. The pacing and flow of their story was steady, and I enjoyed how each character came to grow, discovering things about themselves and what they truely desired.

If you're in search of a contemporary romance novel to kick back with, take a chance on The Bar Next Door.

The Bar Next Door by Katia Rose is the first book in her new romcom series which is actually a spin off from the Sherbrooke Station series.

Monroe is the manager of Taverne Toulouse which is more than just a job to her; it’s her life and the people who work there are like family. The owner of the bar is not turning a profit and now wants to sell it.

Julien is opening a wine bar next door to the taverne and is interested in buying it. In his mind, the place is a dump but he feels he could use it to expand the wine bar

Monroe is not having any of that and will do whatever it takes to trying to save the taverne, even if it means fraternizing with the enemy

What a great story! I really enjoyed it. There was enough humor, emotion, and slow burn romance to keep things interesting. It was well written with characters that were likable and real. I especially loved Monroe. I felt I could relate to her on so many levels

I can’t wait for the next one! Fingers crossed we get a DeeDee / Zach story

This is a definite recommend from me

I received an Arc and this is my honest review

The Bar Next Door is my first read by Katia Rose and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from her!

This book was a sweet swoon worthy read. Monroe is the manager of a failing bar when Julien purchases the lot next door and plans to open a wine bar. For Monroe that means competition, it becomes her mission to save the bar and the people who work there that she loves to death

Julien on the other hand focuses on work and success. He’s not one for relationships but meeting Monroe throws him off when he suddenly wants more.

Julien was swoon worthy needless to say and him speaking French here and there through out the book added to his sex appeal. Monroe on the other hand is a do gooder. Too kind for her own good she never puts herself first. But Julien brings the fire out in her and I loved their conversations.

A cute fun read, Bar Next Door has all the perks it needs. While the added French was a little hard to read, liked that is was added in as it brought something different to the book from others. Plus I now know how to say “what’s up whore?” (Thanks DeeDee 😉)

“This is not a promising start to our date, Bordeaux Boy. Don’t make me change my mind.” I notice how fast my pulse is racing through my veins, and I realize that I don’t want him to make me change my mind. “Never. I’ll see you on Saturday, Monroe.” “See you then.” Mission Cut Ties With Julien Valois: complete failure.

I’M BACCCCKKKKK! Haha. It’s been awhile! I’m back with an ARC REVIEW! And it’s a good one “The Bar Next Dior” has 3 of my favorite things: banter, romance, and wine. Thank you Katia Rose for letting me read this book early! I have loved everything she has written! I love that Monroe stuck to her guns throughout this book. She loved her job and the people she worked with and she wasn’t going let Taverne Toulouse go down without a fight. And then there’s Julien... can someone find me a guy like him? He’s a TOTAL HOTTIE. Not only does this book have my 3 favorite things it also gave me all the feels. There’s some tear jerking parts towards (haha at least for me). This book comes out August 22nd and your definitely going to want to read it!

I am not lying, nor exaggerating, when I say it's been a long while since I last enjoyed a book as much as I did this one. I was a fan of Katia Rose's writing since the Sherbrook Station series, and this installment, the introduction into a new series on the same context the SS happens within, only cements my initial impression.

This story was as sexy, witty and alluring as their protagonists. It was so much fun to see Monroe and Julien as they come to embrace the fact that they have met their implausible match (both intellectually and emotionally).

The characters, as always, were complex and well-rounded. Miss Katia leaves nothing uncared for in her masterful weaving.

This was an exciting, emotionally mature (and I can't believe I have to praise this, but I do so fuck it), entertaining story. Katia Rose is definitely one of the (admittedly few) authors I've come to really trust. Can't wait to see what she will give us next!

I have one issue with this book.  And it's not even with the book really, it's with me.  It's that I wish that my french was better, so that I understood ALL the phrasing that is interspersed throughout the story, without having to rely on the translation, because that, for me, is a distraction from the story.  But this is a niggle.  An in passing comment.  A none thing.

The story - that is a thing.  A beautiful thing.  A completely different thing to the Sherbrooke Station books.  Different in tone and feel, yet nonetheless lovely.

I really enjoyed the dance that these two did around each other.  And when that dance became a duet instead of a solo effort, I enjoyed it even more.  This could have been so frustrating, but it wasn't - at all.  Because I was hooked on their story.

C'est une histoire d'amour adorable.  (I hope I got that right!!)

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

Katia Rose always brings her A game with her writing. I have yet to come across a book of hers I didn’t love. She has this charisma that jumps off the page with her writing. Its light but at the same time profound. It’s fun but meaningful.

The Bar Next Door is no exception. Unique characters, original storyline, and great writing. This book has it all. Witt, humour, but also memorable quotes and references.

Monroe and Julien are everything. They zing with electricity, they FEEL REAL. They are your typical people next door. Maybe that’s because I can picture everything about this novel being set where I live, but there’s something so tangible about this story.

Whenever I think of a Katia Rose book, I simply have the biggest smile on my face. There is such a joy that inhibits me when I immerse myself in one of her stories.

Here’s to many more! I cannot wait!

**sigh**
You guys, I can’t even tell you how much I adored this book. It has the sweet and sultry makings of a a great rom/com and yet.... the characters had depth and humor and heart. Monroe is the badass chick who cares about everyone else and realizes that she can have her own dreams, too. And Julian.... oh boy, he was just everything; sexy, strong, honest, and everything in between. I love that they both allow the other person to be who they are truly meant to be and help the other flourish.

I haven’t read anything else by Katia, but I know a binge read will be part of my weekend plans because I really enjoyed her writing style.

Thank you, Katia, for letting me have the chance to read an ARC. You’ve definitely gained a fan for life.

Loved this book! Recommended it to a friend even by 1/2 thru. Reminds me of a Pippa Croft series I read a few years ago. She very slowly weaves each character into your heart. Then you get to watch 2 very unlikely to fall in love work a holics fall for each other. For both it is a breath of fresh air to feel that way with someone. Their passion was...very, insert smile, and very tastefully written, really beautiful. There were a couple of moments I got impatient but I took into account this book, lays the groundwork for the series, so I'm glad it was so good! Loved Monroe's determination, loved Julien's personality and his mom for giving him a dog named, Madam Bovary! Great book for a start to a new series highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this story! Monroe manages Tavern Toulouse, a bar which is currently failing, only to discover a fancy new wine bar will be opening up next door. Monroe is not ready to give up on Tavern Toulouse - she loves this bar and the history that goes along with it - and tries to discourage the owner next door, Julien, from opening his bar.
Julien and Monroe hit it off, and even though Monroe tries to keep her distance due to their different views on the bar, she can't deny the attraction between them.
This was a sweet rom-com, and a joy to read.
